She Thinks Big - Women Entrepreneurs Doing Good in the World
Most CPAs struggle with pricing - some have moved to flat-rate or subscription pricing, and some still bill by the hour. What they often struggle to understand is the full depth of the value they offer to their clients, and because they don’t fully understand value, they are leaving Everest Sized Mountains of Money on the table, which means they have to work a lot harder to compensate for the missed opportunity. Today’s guest is Mark Stiving the pricing expert behind impactpricing.com. What we cover: How to shift to flat-rate pricing when you have had a client whom you have billed by the hour: Give them Menu Pricing with 3 packages: Good, Better, Best. Put last year’s average monthly bill between the Good and Better package How do you have a value conversation with your clients? You can’t simply ask, what is the value? Instead you must work together with your client to discover the value of your work together. You might ask... If we can get you this result, what would result from that? If we can move from a 7 to an 8, what would happen? What’s it worth if you had that result, of ? The quantitative value takes some digging to get to, but if you ask the right questions, you can get there. Discovering value is a two-way street: It’s about trying to discover how much value we are delivering to that client You as a vendor have no idea how much value your customer is going to get from your product The customer doesn’t know your product and has no idea how much value they are going to get from it Both of you work together to understand the value it will provide, and the client will receive. Remember: Before customers buy, they are buying based on perceived value. After working together, they continue to buy based on actual value. Once we have a customer, our job is to make sure they get real value, and KNOW they got real value. To communicate hidden value, consider having a one-page write up “Let me tell you what I did yesterday” People with these problems often face these issues I solved this for you If you want to look more into it, here is more information How to price by segment: “I charge people in this industry this amount” Start with what you price now, and examine your client roster to see if there is an industry that gets significan value from that service, compared to the others, and then price that segment above your basic rate. Stay away from complexity! Keep price segmentation simple by charging businesses in a certain industry XX% more than the basic service. Think about where the low hanging fruit it, gain from that, and then go on to the next segment If a CPA has the ability to act as a Trusted Advisor, they can have an initial conversation to get the ball rolling. Understanding how to do pricing well is involved, so start with industries that are not in a super-competitive market and use cost+ pricing. The Will I, Won’t I, or Which One? Questions: Will I buy, won’t I buy? – think about popcorn in a theatre. You ask yourself first, will I or won’t I buy? You are not asking “Which theatre will I buy popcorn from?” When people make a Will I decision, they are not as price sensitive, because options are often limited. Start small. Start with value-pricing for your own company, and make it work first in your own business. Then learn to have value conversations with your clients, and then learn to coach your clients on having value conversations with their clients. There’s a phenomenal opportunity for CPAs to help their clients become more profitable, you will reduce turnover, your work becomes more impactful and fulfilling, and your work becomes easier. Hello and welcome to Lechem Panim. Tonto's Forsaking— I don't know how many of you have seen the old television show “The Lone Ranger”. If you have, you might remember one episode where [Tonto and the Lone Ranger were riding through a canyon together when all of a sudden both sides were filled with Native American warriors on horses, dressed for battle. The Lone Ranger turned to Tonto and asked, "What are we going to do?" Tonto replied, "What you mean 'we,' Whiteman?”] It's amazing how adversity can drive people apart, isn't it? The Church's Resolve Strengthened— Well you might expect that to happen at this point in the story of the book of Acts. You will remember that Peter and John have just been tried by the Sanhedrin, who command them to no longer teach or preach in the name of Jesus. And so for the first time the Church is facing political persecution. Now Peter and John resolve to continue to preach the Gospel of Christ because (as Peter had put it, and states again in 5:29 as well): “We must obey God rather than men.” Now that wasn't a universal rejection of authority; but they understood that when authority and the Word of God are in conflict with each other, you always have to side with God. But one of the things that amazes me about this passage is that what you would think would happen at this point in the Church's history doesn't happen. You'd think that the Church would become divided on this issue. Who do we obey? Who do we follow? But what is so fascinating is that this persecution only serves to drive the Church together; together in prayer and together in unity. And the depth of this unity is truly profound. It says in… Acts 4:32a (ESV)— 32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, One— So the first thing that we see is that the Church has become one. But what does that look like? Which One?— It has been said that [When a man marries a woman, they become one but the trouble starts when they try to decide which one.] And you know, there's some truth to that. We often think that there could be peace and unity if everybody would think and act just like us. But let me tell you, in all honesty, if all the people of the world were like me, we'd be in trouble. And if all the people of the world were like you we'd also be in trouble. And a Church filled with people who are all trying to be like one another is destined for trouble as well. And actually, the Church's central aim ought not to be to strive for unity with one another, but to strive to be at unity with Christ. It is in becoming like Jesus that we are consequently brought into unity with one another. Tuned to The Same Fork— This is why A.W. Tozer once asked: [Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers [meeting] together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.] And you know, he's right. If a congregation will commit to draw closer to Jesus as individuals, they will consequently find that they will also be more at one with each other. One Heart & Soul— Now the text says that these believers were {(v.32)} of one heart and soul. And that phrase means more than just that they had something in common; or had a common bond in Christ Jesus. No, they were of one heart and soul. Now that language intrigues me. καρδία— First that word “heart”. It is the Greek word (all you in the medical field know it well) “καρδία” (cardia) (like cardiology). But here it does not mean physical heart, or even just our emotions. No, the literal definition involves the mind, the character, the inner self, the will, our intentions; our very center. So they were united in mind (having the same mind of Christ), they were united in character (the holiness of God made real in their lives), they were united in the inner self in selfless agape love of God, and were even united in their will and intentions with one another. The very center of who they were was united one with another. Now what does it mean to be united with your brother or sister in Christ at that kind of level? And what implications does that have for how we think about the unity of the Church? What could a Church do that was united in Christ like that? ψυχὴ— Now the second word also astounds me. It says that they were also one not just in their heart, but in their soul. And the Greek word used here for soul is “ψυχὴ” (psuché). And as I was looking up the meaning behind this word ψυχὴ, I was amazed to discover that the first phrase used to help to define this word “ψυχὴ” was the vital breath; the breath of life. In fact, it is from the very word that means "to breathe, blow”. And that harkens back to the very creation of mankind. “The soul is the direct aftermath of God breathing (blowing) His gift of life into a person, making them an ensouled being.” And in thinking about how God's Holy Spirit is synonymous with His breath (that same Hebrew word “Ruach”) we see once again that the source of their unity of soul (or breath) was the very Spirit of God. They are united by the very breath of God. But “ψυχὴ” also refers to a person's distinct identity; who I am as an individual. So in a sense, in Christ, we become so one with one another in such a deep way that our very identities become intermingled; intertwined with one another, to the point where scripture even calls us one singular body. Romans 12:5 (ESV)— 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Now every body has a head. And scripture teaches us that Christ Himself is the head. Colossians 1:18 (ESV)— 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. All-Encompassing Oneness— So as we come under the headship of Christ, we also become united with one another as we are together brought under His control. And this oneness was so profound, it encompassed every area of the lives of those in the early Church, beginning with their very possessions, wealth, and property. Look with me at verse 32… Acts 4:32b (ESV)— and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. Nothing Their Own— Now that phrase “no one” is so profound to me. You mean to tell me that there was not a single Christian convert who thought it appropriate to call anything his or her own? Everything; all of who they were was surrendered fully and completely to the body of Christ? I don't know about you, but that is incredibly convicting to me. “My”— It is amazing how much of our lives and culture is centered around the word “my”. You know, there were many words I had to spend a lot of time teaching my kids as they grew up; words like “thank you” or “please”. But you know, “my” was not one of them. They learned that word very quickly with little assistance from me. “That's my stuffed bunny.” “That's my cookie.” “My, my, my.” Now that's pretty expected when it comes to young children, but as we mature there ought to be a growth into a new reality of seeing outside the walls of our own personal needs and wants. But I know adults; you know adults who are very difficult to be around because (unfortunately) they have never grown out of that self-centered way of living life. And relating with them can be extremely difficult, especially if that person has any kind of power over you. But you know I don't think we ever really just grow out of that. That re-orientation of our hearts doesn't just happen automatically. No, there has to come a point in our lives when we allow God to actually put that old self-centered self to death. That is what it really means when Jesus says to Nicodemus back in John 3 that he needs to be born again; and what He means when He says to His disciples that to follow Him they must take up their cross. To follow Jesus means to put to death our “my” way of doing life and experiencing an awakening into a brand new way of living; under a recognition that all of who we are (our hopes, our dreams, and our futures) and all that we have (our homes, our finances; all of that) belongs to God and are His to do with as He pleases. That is what happens when we allow ourselves to become turned outwards upon Him. And when that happens; when we become focused on Him, then what and who He values will become what and who we value as well. And as Jesus gave His life for the world, so also will we give of our time, our finances, and YES even our very lives to meet the spiritual and physical needs of those around us. Complete Surrender— The question is, are we that surrendered? Does God have full control over my life; my time; my plans; and yes, even my finances? Does He truly have all of my heart and all of my soul. Power in our lives as individuals and power in the Church collectively is directly connected to the full surrender of all of who we are to Christ and to His Body. And we see the results of this played out in a really magnificent way, as it says in the following verses… Acts 4:33-35 (ESV)— 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. May we also, as children of God who are men and women who claim to be part of the body of Christ, be that sold out. And as we are sold out to Jesus, may we also find ourselves to be of one heart and one soul with one another. Let us do so. Amen.

Self-discipline is a much more reliable predictor of one’s future success than an IQ score. There are a lot of smart people. They score highly on tests, their comprehension is off the charts, and they always do well in school. But there aren’t a lot of disciplined people. They can’t make or keep commitments; they allow things to distract them when they need to be doing something else. Most importantly, that inability to discipline themselves keeps them from accomplishing their dreams and goals. This week, the guys break down how your approach to self-discipline is the anchor that either keeps you tethered to or away from living the life you’ve always wanted. Session 48 Postbac, Masters, and SMP programs have pretty significant differences, from the degree conferred to financial aid eligibility, etc. Pick wisely! If you haven’t yet, please check out all our other podcasts on Meded Media as you’re trying to get as many resources as you can to help you along this premed journey. Did you struggle in your undergrad classes? Or did you major in something completely random and you never took any science courses and now you need them? How do you determine what's the best path forward versus a "postbac" program or a Masters Program in Biomedical Sciences? (There's also that which is called Special Masters Program or SMP.) So, what's the difference? [01:15] What's the Difference Between Postbac and Master's Programs Q: Which one will prove to the admissions committees that I can handle the coursework? Is a postbac program good enough? Or does it have to be this Masters Program in hard sciences like Biomedical Sciences or Masters in Microbiology? (Masters in Public Health is not considered a hard science.) A: The difference is that one is a Master's degree and one isn't. Postbac programs historically are programs affiliated either separately form an institution. There are a lot of private postbac programs out there now while there are some programs that are part of the university. There's also a postbac program for nontraditional students looking to improve their grades or are switching from another career so they need to take all the sciences. At the core of a postbac program or a masters program, they both do the same thing. They're both there to help improve or add to your science GPA. Medical school is hard. There are a lot of sciences. If you can't get a good science GPA then you haven't proven to yourself or the admissions committee that you can handle the coursework. The last they want to do is accept a student who is not going to finish school. [03:35] Which One to Choose: Federal vs. Private Loans Master's program is a degree program which you can get federal financial aid for. Postbac programs are not degree-programs, which means you don't get a degree at the end. Some postbac programs give you a certificate but the certificate these days might not qualify itself for financial aid. This being said, you have to just do your research and follow up with them. Private loans are to be avoided at all cost. They're not very flexible. For instance, they don't care if you have problems in the future. When you get federal loans as you go through medical school and residency training, they are very flexible with how you pay back the loans. You have a lot more leeway if any issues come up. As you're looking at these different options, think about federal versus private loans. [05:10] Formal Postbac versus Do-It -Yourself Postbac Think about whether you need to do a formal postbac versus a do-it-yourself postbac. You don't have to do a formal postbac. Formal postbac programs are super expensive. One of the tricks for a do-it-yourself postbac is to tell them you want a second degree. Go and apply as a degree-seeking student and just don't finish the degree. [06:00] Master's Program versus Postbac Programs A Master's program is going to give you a Master's degree. A lot of people will choose this being the safer bet. You have a Master's degree now. Just in case medicine doesn't work out, now you have a master's degree to lean back on. A lot of these master's programs are postbac programs that are just wrapped in a pretty exterior of a master's program. This means they're there to improve your sciences, prepare you for the MCAT, and get you ready for medical school. This is what an SMP does as well. One of the biggest differences is that on your application, a postbac program includes undergrad level courses that help you increase your undergrad GPA. If you have a poor undergrad GPA and you take Master's courses, your undergrad GPA is going to look terrible. Hopefully, you have a good Master's GPA to improve on that. If you're struggling with your undergrad GPA, it may behoove you to do more of a regular postbac. Your postbac courses are going to be included in your undergrad GPA. This may boost you up over that 3.0 threshold. [08:50] Crush It! Ultimately, no matter which one you pick, the goal for any of these is to crush them the best you can. Do not go into this process with a poor GPA from undergrad and continue the same mistakes that you make. Otherwise, it's going to prove you can't handle the coursework. This is the last thing you want to do. Links: Meded Media

In today’s episode you will hear the difference between the companies who are winning big and the ones who struggle keep their doors open. You’ll also understand how you can go from being a halfass in the marketplace to dominating and crushing it. Here are some of the awesome things you will hear in this episode: Find out what a Tennis pro (ranked 50 in the world) did to turn an injury to victory and how you can use the same principle to grow your business. Find out what the companies who are winning do differently than the ones who struggle. And see the secret to removing overwhelm and burnout in your business and personal life. So listen here to find out how Satori successfully coaches the best to achieve their most important targets and how you can do the same. ---Transcript--- The reason they're winning big is because they’re narrowing their focus while everyone else is going wide. ...AND they lacking precision. So the guys that are dominating and crushing it have a sniper approach that is very, targeted. ...And everyone else, who’s losing battles and getting killed, is because they’re setting fantasy goals without a clear and efficient strategy to execute in an overcrowded market. So that’s why their growth and marketing isn’t working as well anymore. So what we gotta do, is help them narrow their focus and remove distractions in a world that is constantly trying to sell them the next sexy thing, or some new marketing fad, right? There are new ideas everywhere… There are no lack of ideas. Are you following? Here is what I mean by that... If you think about our clients, they come to us for a couple of reasons… Number one... They’re doing great, but they want to elevate their performance. They want a higher level of achievement. They want to do better. I love that. that’s great. Unfortunately, is not always easy. So a lot of times they’ve been doing great for a long time, they’ve been very profitable but they’ve plateaued, they’ve spend a ton of money on marketing and development, but they’ve lost momentum. AND the reason things stop working is what I said a minute ago, they’re going too wide and they lack precision. Because of that, they have a million plates spinning at all times and nothing gets the necessary focus, or attention and therefore, momentum, decelerates, slows down, or stops. Imagine your marketplace like a battlefield and you want to win the war, right? (I know, it may be grim metaphor but just follow for a second. You don’t want to have a million battles to fight, you want to your best effort, your best resources on the fewest amount of battles possible to win the war. The more battles the less chance of winning the war. Otherwise, you just end up overwhelmed, overworked, frustrated and exhausted. You with me? The companies who are winning right now, are the ones who are narrowing their focus and know how to put their best effort, best focus, best energy and resources on the most leveraged, most profitable targets. They are not fighting a million battles, they’re picking the fewest battles possible they know they can dominate to win the war. Makes sense? So if we’re looking at it from the perspective of dominating your market and achieve maximum growth, maximum profitability and maximum impact that’s sustainable, what do we gotta do? We’ve got to do what I call narrowing down to the core and give it a disproportionate focus and attention. Which will accelerate growth, create a deeper bond with your best clients and make you the most trusted advisor, the preeminent authority and highest paid expert in your field. Those that are doing this are hands down the ones crushing it today. If you think about some of the biggest companies in the world, this is really what they do. Apple brag that they are the most focused company in the world. They say NO to more things than they “yes” to. There’s only ONE iPhone. Said differently, there is no competition. If you’re putting a lot of marketing money and effort in going wide and not yielding the growth you want, it's because everyone else is too, and you just become a commodity, fighting too many battles and lacking focus. The good news is, the money is not in doing more things, fighting more battles. The money is in narrowing your focus, removing distractions and picking that ONE thing you’re the best at, that your competition is not paying attention to and you will win the war. You will out-do, out-perform and out-earn your competition. You’ll dominate your marketplace, bring in more revenue and cultivate a team of elite performers, that are focused, energized and love to be part of your brand. This means, that when it comes down to your best buyers making a purchase and choosing who to do business with, who are they going to choose? They’re going to choose you, the expert that has specialized. Your prospects will see that and know you are the most trusted advisor, most preeminent authority and go to expert in your marketplace. You with me? Why because you didn’t dabble. Because you had precision and didn’t do things halfass. So the question becomes number one, what do you do to position yourself as the go to expert? ...And how do you do it so you’re not just wasting money on the next shiny idea or marketing tactic? Meaning, what’s a strategic way of doing this, without overwhelm, or running your team to the ground, right? ...And how do you know what is the right focus that will yield the biggest most relevant results? The secret is called Precision Based Growth. and precision can be a dangerous word because it could be mistaken with, perfection or micromanaging and it's the complete opposite. This is not what this is about. The word precision is key here. We want to remove any and all friction, distraction, any unproductive, unprofitable, unnecessary, meaningless activities and behaviors that slow you down and decelerate your growth. We want precision. It makes you faster, more flexible and gives you freedom. So if we want to dominate our market and accelerate growth we need to ask ourselves... Number one, if all areas of our team’s performance remained the same which ONE area could use the greatest most relevant improvement and growth? And number two, what are all my current key activities that are making me inefficient, unproductive, unprofitable? Number three, What core values drive our company and which ONE target will help to congruently fulfill on those values? And here is the big one, who do I need to become in order to demonstrate the leadership necessary to inspire my team into action? In other words, what's the mindset, what are the beliefs, skills, habits and consistent behaviors I must own to be the type of leader others want to follow? Once you have the answers to these questions and own that stuff, here's the roadmap with Precision Based Growth... Phase ONE: Clarify. We use the information as building blocks. We identify the best most relevant key targets. And which ones do you think are the best? Of course, the once aligned with you core values, most profitable and energizing. What are we doing here? Probably not too hard to guess, right? We’re using Precision Based Growth to strip away, simplify and remove all that stuff that slows you down so you can accelerate the growth of your business. How about I give you a quick example of how it relates outside of business? A client of mine; a Tennis pro who went from being ranked 50 in the world to not even being in the top 100. (He had an injury and had to stop playing for awhile and he took it really hard as you can imagine. It affected his confidence and certainty. This is not only his passion but also his career. I asked him what he wanted. He goes, “I want to win a Grand Slam. I want to be #1. It’s been a dream since I was a little kid.” Now in the world of tennis this is a big deal. It’s the biggest thing you can do in Tennis. (You could say it changes your status and your income drastically. It’s a whole different life if you’re a pro. It will 10X your income for sure). Because of the injury he went from top 50 to leaving the top 100. This is not an easy turn-around… Are you following? Apart from working on the mindset we had to understand where the most efficient focus and energy had to be. It was not enough to just practice for two hour a day, we needed precision. What kinda of practice would make the biggest difference? Are you with me? We had to make a complete evaluation to turn this around. We couldn’t just focus on his footwork, backhand, volley’s, slicing or serving. I asked him, “Which ONE area would bring the greatest level of growth, which would impact your game most?” Right? Because everything is not equal. He goes, “No doubt, my serve.” But then we went deeper, “How many perfect serves can you make in a row?” Without going into the whole story right now... Here’s the point. We had to find a a way to evaluate the most important area of focus (so he didn’t treat every aspect of practice with equal importance) and then we had to figure out the most productive activity to increase the success of his serve. Just by doing this, in his next tournament he made it to the finals. Which is amazing because he had not won a game since the injury. That’s the power of precision. Precision of mindset, precision of activity and precision in knowing the fruits of the activity. Of knowing not only what to focus on but how to focus. If I go to my marriage. We have focused on finding each other’s most leveraged things; where we are the most effective and efficient instead of focusing on being equal and fair. (When I saying fair, I’m talking about splitting tasks 50/50). This is a major point of conflict in many marriages. (This will be the topic of a completely separate episode). But just to give you a quick example. I have not cooked a meal in over 8 years, from scratch. Not that I can’t, I know how to cook, but it’s not where I’m most efficient, where I can make my greatest contribution. When Emily, my wife prepares food, it’s way healthier, tastier, and she enjoys it. (most of the time.) She has a system. Could I learn it? Yes. But it’s not in my values, like it is for her. I wouldn’t put Emily in coaching clients or making sales call. It’s not that she can’t. She is great in sales. She closes me and the kids all the time on what she wants. It’s just not in her values. When it comes to dressing the kids, she loves doing that, and doesn’t want me to do that. (She thinks she has better taste than me.) And I’m sure she’s right. She does a great job doing. Therefore, I’m not going to waste my mental energy of doing something that lowers my efficiency and takes away from what I do best or enjoy most. Like being here with you, right now! Is this making sense. You getting this? I know people struggle with this every day. They try to force themselves to be motivated to do something that is completely out of alignment with their values. Again, this is the topic of a completely different episode. Let’s continue. Phase Two in Precision Based Growth is Execution...How do you implement the most effective, most efficient messaging, packaging, positioning, offers, the most precise sales process that guarantee your best buyers know you are the most trusted advisor, the most preeminent authority and go to expert in your field. It’s very simple… Once we strip away all unnecessary, unwanted and low-productive and unprofitable activities we move into… Phase Three. OPTIMIZE: If you want to remove overwhelm, burnout and stay focused, efficient and be the kind of leader that goes first, that others want to follow, you’ve got to be relentless and engage your team in developing deliberate, habit-forming activities that consistently elevates your thinking, skills and processes so you can achieve accelerated, sustainable growth in the midst of outside demands. It’s a very very simple concept. And it’s extremely powerful. You see, you know what’s great? Nobody’s doing this. The ones who are winning are narrowing their focus. Luckily for us, not a lot of people are narrowing their focus. They’re busy getting distracted. Trying to please everyone and being controlled by the demands around them. They’re very reactive. I say, let them. The best is doing this. If you want to really, really grow your business and really outperform your competition. The money is here. …Focused on precision-based growth. If you want to stand out, accelerate your growth and keep your sanity, I strongly suggest you test this thing out.Remember: Precision Based Growth equals Exponential Growth... In your business. In your life. In your marriage. In your family. In your health and in your finances. I hope you found value in today’s episode and you enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed making it for you… Now if you know somebody who might find this helpful please feel free to share this podcast… This is how we continue to grow and make a difference in the people’s lives around us.Until next time, this is Satori Mateu with Halfass to Badass.com Stay focused and keep optimizing your business and life for massive growth. Let’s talk about something we aren’t close to being qualified for, remaking video games. Justin, Cole, Ethan, Gifford, and Christina throw out their ideas for and break your memories of X-COM, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Blast Corps, and Eternal Darkness. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow We’re not going to pretend that we know what we are talking about, but the fact is we love a lot of games and have ideas on what would make them better to us. Of course we can’t get to those ideas without goin off-topic first with our Threesomes of the Week and Christina’s adventure into voice acting against a 4 year-old. The On the Spot question asks if remakes should stick to their original’s genres which begs the question, what the hell happened to StarCraft: Ghost? In our first (of multiple) Remake It So discussion the cast delves into some dangerous territory by attempting to infuse some fresh ideas into fix some classics in Zelda and Final Fantasy. Then we return to the game that started this topic on the site originally by going insane over Eternal Darkness once again. We let you know what to expect for the Horrible Night Out this Friday and ask for your input into choosing a game for our next Horrible All Nighter. Cole takes us home by getting a little too excited about all of these new fighting games and Street Fighter X Tekken.
