When Swedish twins Ursula and Sabina Eriksson suddenly began throwing themselves into speeding traffic on a UK motorway—captured on camera by a reality TV crew—it was only the beginning of a shared psychotic break that would lead to superhuman strength, psychiatric hospitalization, and ultimately murder.==========HOUR ONE: In 1761, a young Frenchman died violently. This tragedy would lead to what is still one of that country's most famous cases of judicial injustice. Assuming, of course, that it truly was an injustice at all. (The Mysterious Death of Marc Antoine Calas) *** Most know them as “The Hidden Folk.” The elusive and magical residents of Iceland, who live inside rocks and sometimes play games with unsuspecting passers-by. Are they real? That's a complicated question, if you ask Icelanders. (The Elves of Iceland) *** As two boys were walking back to the house on their farm, a small stone rolled past them. Then a second one. They immediately thought some other boys were hiding in the scrub and throwing stones for a joke. They couldn't have been more wrong. (Stone Throwing Spirits) *** Belle Gunness lured numerous suitors to her Indiana farm. Not to entertain them or to be courted by them. She simply wanted to kill them in cold blood and dump their bodies in her hog pen. (Belle Gunness – The Black Widow of the Midwest) *** "They're going to steal your organs!" screamed Sabina Eriksson, before running toward oncoming traffic on the M6 highway, having already been hit head-on by a Volkswagen. Her twin sister, Ursula, legs crushed by the truck that had just run her over, was spitting and screaming at paramedics on the side of the road. Now, many years after these events, we're still no closer to understanding the chaos that occurred over two days in 2008 involving psychotic twin sisters on a UK highway. (The Disturbing Case of the Eriksson Twins)==========HOUR TWO: In 1882 the Ma'amtrasna murders, the brutal killing of several members of the Joyce family in rural Galway, caused outrage in Irish society and remains one of the most notorious homicides in Irish history. However a few years later Cork was rocked by an equally heinous case which has largely been forgotten. We'll look at the brutal murders of four family members that took place in Castletownroche, Ireland. (The Castletownroche Murders) *** An Arizona family encounters a creature from the dark side of a Navajo legend. (The Arizona Skinwalker) *** John Blair liked to keep things “in the family”. But in his case, it wasn't just a saying. It was literal. Because John was infamous for being bigamous. (Bigamous Blair) *** Dozens of Korean War GI's claimed an unidentified flying object made them all sick. Theories range from high-tech Soviet death rays to extraterrestrials studying how we engage in battle to combat-stress-induced hallucinations. What actually happened? (The Korean War UFO)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: Were people ever really tortured in Iron Maidens? This week's episode is devoted to an exploration of the title track of Night Demon's 2015 debut album, Curse of the Damned. The band members break down the component parts of the song, from the distinctive swing intro to the MXR Phase 90 guitar effect to the memorable singalong part near the end. You will hear about the musical and lyrical inspiration for the track, why its narrative style is unique for the band, how it fits in the live set, and why it represented an early attempt to diversify the Night Demon sonic attack.Curse of the Damned Ultimate Edition preorder - http://www.cursedamn.com Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Among other details, you will hear about the song's connection to the Blood Sacrifice comic, the writing process, early demos, why Jarvis recorded the guitar solo on the studio version, how Armand plays it differently live, its impact in the setlist, lighting cues, notable mistakes, and why the song will forever remain a staple of the Night Demon live attack.Ultimate Edition preorder - cursedamn.comBecome a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. Send us a textThis week Danny Maxwell, Craig Fort and the band's mascot Tim stop by the show to discuss, their latest release 'Burn Cruise' , ghosts, the psychology behind the music and more.*****Since 2016, Leafblower's patented brand of psych-tinged post-rock has whiplashed crowds of bobbing heads and pumping fists. The band released a demo, a live set, a single—but all the while, their first full-length has been simmering to a boil, now ready to sear. Burn Cruise is a sound that only a steady diet of metal and hardcore, even while members played in post-punk (New Lungs, The Fucking Party), indie (Little Brazil), and old-school reinvented country (Lightning Stills), can meld. The opener, “Long Night,” haunts, creeps, then gallops into the howling dual guitars of Dan Maxwell and Clark Jahn, while the outro track “Stoopin'” is a haunted shiver of banjo, piano, and theremin soaked in the aural equivalent to sepia. In between, “Namaste” unleashes an onslaught out of the gate, as bassist Craig Fort gutturally punctuates vocalist Maxwell's plaintive venom. On the title track, sludge shifts to discordant-edged stadium anthem, while the melodic post-punk of “Unsatisfied” twists into prog-rock harmony before the song pummels with pure metal. The unrelenting beat of “Ghosts” builds, guitars wailing, and Tab Tworek's drums turn frenetic, a pulse-racing metronome. Add to all that: Tim. Imagine a dimly lit dive bar, Leafblower gearing up to play. Before the strike of the first chord, before the pulse of a drum, an old man—stringy hair and beard—hovers in the billowing fog of a smoke machine. On close inspection, his eyes are empty. His pale face flaps loosely, as if skinned and put back. His body is stuffed. Is he a mascot, like Dio's Murray or Iron Maiden's Eddie? Is he symbolic? Is he a manifestation of the collective consciousness? An embodiment of the music? He is Tim. Recorded and mixed by Ian Aeillo at Make Believe Studios and mastered by Carl Saff, Burn Cruise is Leafblower's inimitable voice at full throat.******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest, please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comUpcoming guests can be found: https://dmneedom.com/upcoming-guest Follow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Jana erzählt von einer Bahnfahrt, die sie so schnell nicht vergessen wird: Essen Hauptbahnhof, überfüllt mit tausenden Iron Maiden-Fans – laut, voll, eigentlich kein Ort zum Durchatmen. Doch als ein Junge, vermutlich mit Autismus, sichtbar überfordert ist, passiert etwas Unerwartetes: Ein einzelner Hinweis reicht – und plötzlich wird der ganze Wagon leise. Musik aus. Rücksicht an. Eure Jana & Batomae

Courtney Cox, known in metal circles as “CC Shred,” has been a standout guitarist since her early teens. Hailing from Philadelphia, she began playing guitar at 13 and by 15 was touring nationally thanks to her training with the Paul Green School of Rock. Her dedication and ferocious style quickly set her apart in the male-dominated world of metal guitar. Courtney moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to further her career, where she became a prominent member of the all-female Iron Maiden tribute band, The Iron Maidens, performing as “Adriana Smith.” Her time with the group solidified her international presence and developed her reputation for technical precision and powerful live performances. In 2023, Courtney took a bold step by joining Swiss metal band Burning Witches, initially filling in for guitarist Larissa Ernst during maternity leave. Not long after, she was made a permanent member, fully embracing the transition from tribute work to creating and performing original music. Her arrival injected new energy into the band's sound, and she quickly proved her worth by contributing to fresh tracks like “The Spell Of The Skull” and “Mirror, Mirror.” Fans and critics alike have praised her seamless integration and her ferocious riffs that blend seamlessly with the Witches' heavy, melodic power metal style.Courtney's move from The Iron Maidens to Burning Witches marked a turning point. In a 2024 interview, she explained how difficult it was to leave the tribute band world, but emphasized the joy and creative satisfaction that comes from playing music she helped write. The constant travel between both bands had taken its toll, and she decided to focus her energy on one project. The choice paid off, and her contributions to Burning Witches have been instrumental in their continued rise, particularly as the band headlines European metal festivals and develops material for their next studio album.Outside of performing, Courtney is also deeply connected with her fans through social media and her personal projects. Mean MistreaterIn two short years, Austin-based Mean Mistreater has released two albums of hellbent-for-leather, muscle-car metal. Think WASP and Motorhead drag racing on Iron Maiden's blacktop --with no brakes! Vocalist Janiece Gonzalez and husband/guitarist Alex Wein join us to discuss the band's rapid-fire rise, their successful European tour, the party-vibe video shoot for “Do or Die” and why you gotta keep the creative motor running when momentum is stomped to the floor. Blood can give a wrestling match some much needed drama and memorable visuals. When wrestlers need to bleed during a match, they "run the razor" (quite literally) on their own flesh to achieve the desired effect. On this episode, Andrew and returning guest Kevin Hare (Voices of Wrestling, 185 Miles South) play songs with blood, bleed, etc. in the title. Artists played include U2, Concrete Blonde, The New Pornographers, Agent Orange, Jimmy Eat World, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and many more. There's no better time to wear all white gear, because this episode is getting bloody!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrewListen to Kevin on the 185 Miles South podcast: 185milessouth.comAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Iron Maiden's new drummer conundrum leads us to more free speech issues this time to begin with. This week I discuss the case of Bob Vvylan at Glastonbury festival, getting the crowd to chant "Death to the IDF" (Israeli defence forces). Is this artistic license? certainly it was shown on the BBC, who the taxpayers pay for their license to do so, yet members of the public are going to jail for tweets, is this just? via Kneecap as usual....you'd swear it was a marketing scheme at this stage eh? and on to Velvet Sundown, an AI 70s style rock band who Spotify have been pushing who with no backstory have 500 000 monthly listeners and rising....what is fake and what isn't, let's get to the bottom of it all.....support the show over at :https://patreon.com/AlanAverillPrimordial on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/0BZr6WHaejNA63uhZZZZek?si=yFFV8ypSSDOESUX62_0TzQsponsored by Metal Blade records https://metalblade.indiemerch.com/ promo code AA 2024 for 10% off your order ships worldwideFor info on my work as a booking agent go to: https://www.facebook.com/DragonProductionsOfficialor email alan@dragon-productions.comPrimordial cds/lps available from https://www.metalblade.com/primordial/death metalVERMINOUS SERPENThttps://open.spotify.com/artist/54Wpl9JD0Zn4rhpBvrN2Oa?si=zOjIulHXS5y9lW1YHMhgTAdoomDREAD SOVEREIGN https://open.spotify.com/artist/60HY4pl0nbOrZA6u2QnqDN?si=sxQ5_1htR6G3WIvy1I_wXAgothAPRILMENhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/7GzLO1YJClmN5TvV4A37MJ?si=cRXSk24lQKWSqJG-B8KbWQSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. Two great artists, one mediocre host - it's Talkin' Rock with Meltdown. I just realized I opened by saying this is "the final" episode of Talkin' Rock. That's because I'm on vacation next week. There will be more! Sometimes my brain doesn't work right when I'm staring down the barrel of 10 days off! Ok, here we go.... Up first, it's drumming legend, Vinny Appice. You can catch him live at Uncle Sam Jam on July 11th with his band, Sabbath Knights, which we discussed. We talk about his time in Black Sabbath and how it changed his life. I didn't know that he did a small tour with the original members, including Ozzy Osbourne. He told me why he's not involved in the Back To The Beginning concert taking place this weekend, as well as his thoughts on Ronnie James Dio not being in the Rock Hall. We also discussed the passing of Rick Deringer, Joel Hoakstra's project he plays on, the anniversary of the album Last In Line, and much more. Then, it's my first time talking with Jesse from Killswitch Engage, and we covered a lot of topics. From his birthday plans, the famous 80s rocker with whom he shares a birthday, to his love for 80s rock, and his musical influences. Jesse told me how his wife thought their latest single, "I Believe" was bound to be a hit. It carries a certain message, which all of their music does. We spoke about his voice-over work, an upcoming documentary he's in, and the summer tour - Summer of Loud. We wrapped up our conversation with some talk about the influence Ozzy and Black Sabbath played on him and music, as the last show takes place this Saturday, as well as his experience on tour with Iron Maiden. Enjoy!
“I thought it was gonna be tight…” 1982 –Michael Jackson releases what would become the biggest selling album in music history with Thriller, Survivor and Olivia Newton John are locked in their own HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH on the Billboard Charts with Eye of the Tiger & Let's Get Physical, and IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST, two of the greatest twin guitar attacks in all of metal, both release two of the most iconic albums in all of metal with THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST and SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE. Go ahead and put on your '82 hat and be resigned to the fact that with regard to getting through this, “it's gonna be tough!”. Get ready to discover the proper (and most savage) way to “enjoy” fried chicken and realize that “nudity now” doesn't mean what it meant back in the day. Always remember that “if you're looking for a good time, it's in the bottom” and just know that “the banana helps it go down” when you JOIN US for some “Bunkerpoon Feng Shui” on this 1982 HEAD-TO-HEAD DEATH MATCH with THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST and SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE battling it out to the death. When Iron Maiden announced they'd be doing the Run For Your Lives Tour in 2025-26, The Wolf & Action Jackson knew they would have to go see a couple of shows. And when there were only European dates announced for 2025, they knew they needed to dust off their passports because there was no way they would be able to wait 2 years to see the boys on what could be their biggest and best (perhaps last?) greatest hits tour ever. So they chose Stockholm as their European venue because 1) They'd never been to Sweden and 2) Iron Maiden played 2 nights there. Plus the Wolf Cub had been promised by her father that he'd take her to see Maiden in Europe once she was old enough (but was she? Swedish authorities didn't think so but we came up with a work-around). Stockholm was an enchanting land full of beautiful people and a packed house full of Iron Maiden fans for 2 nights of heavy metal classics. We were revved up by Lzzy Hale and Halestorm who held their own on the stage and then treated to the best setlist The Wolf has seen in 30 years of seeing the band live. As The Wolf marked his 9th and 10th IM shows, they were the first without Nicko McBrain on the drums as the band introduced Simon Dawson to the family (though most knew him from Steve Harris' side project British Lion). Besides the Eddies who came out to have fun with the band, the real show was the new video screen behind the stage and on the amplifiers. It set the backdrop for the song like showing the Eiffel Tower during Murders in the Rue Morgue or a creepy graveyard for Fear of the Dark. But they also created some more interactive movies for epics like Rhime of the Ancient Mariner and Hallowed Be Thy Name. While the boys played lights out, the screen enhanced the experience and understanding of the lyrics for folks from the front row to the back of the house. Two truly magic nights in Stockholm which only left us wondering when (and where) would we see our heavy metal heroes again. As diehard Night Demon fans know, the band recorded a version of what became Curse of the Damned under the banner of Run for Your Life. They ultimately decided to shelve those recordings. In this episode, we hear from current and former members of the band explaining the whys and wherefores. How did it come about that Dusty was on the Run for Your Life recordings? Why did the band play to a click track? Why, when and how did they decide these sessions needed to be scrapped? Answers to these and many more questions are explored in detail. This week on Dem Vinyl Boyz, we summon the galloping riffs and soaring vocals of one of the most iconic heavy metal albums of all time — Iron Maiden’s 1982 masterpiece, The Number of the Beast. This record marked a turning point for the band: it was the debut of powerhouse frontman Bruce Dickinson, and the album that would catapult Iron Maiden from underground heroes to global metal gods. Blending fierce instrumentals, dramatic storytelling, and apocalyptic themes, The Number of the Beast delivered timeless classics like “Run to the Hills,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” and the fiery title track “The Number of the Beast.” We dig into the controversy the album stirred with its dark imagery and biblical references, the influence it had on generations of metal bands, and how it still stands as a defining moment in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Whether you’re a longtime headbanger or just stepping into the Maidenverse, this vinyl is a must-have — and this episode is your gateway to understanding why The Number of the Beast remains immortal in the halls of heavy metal history. Up the irons — and spin it loud.

Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 568 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - In the court of the crimson Klon and everyone has a Tubescreamer, right? The band is back together as Brian returns to the recording studio and Richard has some ice cream tips for cannibals and a returning finger pain. He has a new pedal idea for a compact board and the guys tear him a new one...Meanwhile the Earthquaker story got on to the mainstream news and Blake uses a big word. Twice! There was big pedal news just before we recorded as pedal legend Bill Finnegan of Klon Centaur fame issued a legal statement via social media so the guys dig into it. This once again tuns into a new business idea that is legally questionable at best and then the guys develop the ultimate formula for podcast success. Brad Paisley had the Rick Beato treatment this week and Brian cannot hide his undying love for Brad and Vox style amps. Somehow the conversation jumps from Ai to pole dancing and there is much confusion and some hilarity.
