Summary by Peyton Smith Seg:1- (AUDIO)Manitobans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are being offered a new provincial government card that will allow them to travel within Canada without being subject to the province's mandatory 14-day self-isolation period upon their return. If they left, would they even want to come back? With the way that Premier Pallister has been running the show throughout the scamdemic, it might be time for a mass exodus out of the province. The nasty needle would almost be preferable to his nasty, dictatorial leadership.Manitoba is offering a $2M lottery, with borrowed money, to bribe it's citizens to get the vaccine.Who will be paying the tab?According to Pallister, it will be people's grandchildren.------------------There is a report of Jason Kenney and his UCP brass having a secret restaurant during the provincial lockdown. If this happened, then it will come to light. It will be exposed for the revolting hypocrisy that it is!Mike drives this home wonderfully!https://americanuckradio.com/current-events/ws-exclusive-kenney-inner-circle-had-own-secret-restaurant-during-lockdown-says-senior-ucp-sources/---‐-------------The Chief Medical Officer for BC Interior Health has been arrested by the RCMP on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference against a minor in Alberta. He was also a leading voice on the BC scamdemic response.Evil upon evil.https://americanuckradio.com/current-events/chief-medical-officer-for-b-c-s-interior-health-charged-with-sex-crimes-against-child-in-alberta/--------------------(AUDIO) Will the merry shores of England be under the wave of abnormality forever? While the talk is about controlling the scamdemic, the real control sought is that of every citizen. All aboard the crazy train!-------------------(AUDIO) The federal privacy watchdog says the RCMP broke the law by using cutting-edge facial-recognition software to collect personal information. From GLOBAL NEWS:In a report today, privacy commissioner Daniel Therrien says there were serious and systemic failings by the RCMP to ensure compliance with the Privacy Act before it gathered information from U.S. firm Clearview AI.“The use of [facial recognition technology] by the RCMP to search through massive repositories of Canadians who are innocent of any suspicion of crime presents a serious violation of privacy,” Therrien said in his report.“A government institution cannot collect personal information from a third party agent if that third party agent collected the information unlawfully.”Clearview AI's technology allows for the collection of huge numbers of images from various sources that can help police forces, financial institutions and other clients identify people. In a related probe, Therrien and three provincial counterparts said in February that Clearview AI's technology resulted in mass surveillance of Canadians and violated federal and provincial laws governing personal information. They said the New York-based company's scraping of billions of images of people from across the internet was a clear violation of Canadians' privacy rights.Mike analyzes this very well.READ MORE:https://americanuckradio.com/breaking-news/rcmp-broke-the-law-with-clearview-ai-facial-recognition-software-watchdog/---------------Enjoy all this, and more, in a superb segment 1 from Mike.Seg:2- Mike welcomes his friend Joe to the program for segment 2.Joe tells the story of Lindbrook Store in Tofield, Alberta, and the terror this establishment faced from the RCMP.The dirtiness of the RCMP in this is right out of the gestapo, as Joe explains. While Joe didn't witness the madness himself, his wife was present when the RCMP made a very heavy handed assault on the location. An interesting conversation about a very infuriating exhibition of vile thuggery by the RCMP.For further reference, here is some background of the harrassment this store has faced.https://tofieldmerc.com/2021/01/13/lindbrook-shopkeeper-warned-by-rcmp-and-ahs-inspector/LISTEN IN FULL!--------------------Alberta moves into stage 2 of reopening, but it's certainly nothing to shout about or be thankful for. With more than 67% of Albertans being vaccinated, the Premier waxes about how close he is to releasing Albertans from the bondage he's put them in.Meantime, Albertans must be eternally grateful, bowing at the Premier's feet for loosening the noose a little.Right?WRONG!!While the temptation may be strong to trust the Premier, people must seriously check themselves at this point before doing so.Mike goes through, and analyzes this carrot that Kenney is dangling before Albertans.----------------Enjoy all this, and more, in a wonderful segment 2 from Mike.

No matter how educated or open-minded you might be, we all have our own individual take on the world and to that extent we all blinders on that limit our perspective and our ability to see the reality of our world - -and beyond – for what it really is. But, if we accept that there's more going on than we know about, and change the lens we're looking through, it can open entirely new vistas and opportunities: from big-picture things like a greater understanding of our universe to more practical things like helping businesses more effectively provide services to clients. If you're looking for open-minded, perspective-changing revolutions in science and business the first place you think to look may not be Baton Rouge. Or neighboring Livingston Parish. What you're about to find out may come as something of a shock. the Edge of the Universe Dr. Joseph Giaime is Observatory Head of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory better known as LIGO, arguably one of the most exciting and best-kept secrets in Louisiana. LIGO is located in remote Livingston Parish and is a research facility that was designed to open the field of gravitational-wave astrophysics through the detection of gravitational waves, which, as you may remember was predicted by Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. LIGO's massive and super-sophisticated equipment is able to detect cosmic gravitational waves and to develop gravitational-wave observations as an astronomical tool. It is one of just two such facilities in the country – it has a sister facility in Washington State that works in tandem with it – and is tied in with two research centers in California and at MIT. And they are unlocking the secrets of our universe. In 2015, LIGO researchers made international headlines when they did in fact discover gravitational waves generated by a colliding pair of black holes some 1.3 billion light years away - a discovery that earned them a Nobel Prize. Joe is also a professor of physics and astronomy at LSU, who came here back in the 1990s to begin working at the LIGO facility here. While Joe is looking at what's going on out at the edge of the into the universe, the rest of us spend the day looking at YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. When you're online you may have noticed over the last couple of years there's a greater prevalence of what's called “immersive content.” That's those 360 degree video options that make it look like you you're actually walking through a house, and you may have also used it if you've had telemedicine visit. That technology has been developed locally here in Baton Rouge by a company called Project Zenith 360. The co-owner of Project Zenith 360 is Conner Leblanc. Conner's company is developing all sorts of applications for this technology in the healthcare, hospitality, and real estate sectors, to name a few. Conner and his co-owners founded the company in 2019, shortly after they all graduated from LSU and shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, which changed everything and for them, created all sorts of new opportunities. Vicki and Joe Price have been the blues power couple of the Midwest. From their home in Decorah, Iowa, they have created a traveling music show that has been to almost every corner of the country. While Joe has been known for his style of music, it has been Vicki who has upped the ante by bringing her no-nonsense guitar play and excellent vocals to the stage. As writer Chad Taylor notes, Vicki Price can be "bold and brassy when she wants to be. Her voice has elicited visions of Loretta Lynn or June Carter, but she's able to get far bluesier than any of her most obvious comparisons." This pandemic has affected the duo like a lot of other musicians, mainly by the closing down of venues that supported them. If that wasn't bad enough, Vicki has been battling her own health problems during the pandemic. It has been a transition of sorts for both herself and Joe. A force of nature in her own right, with that great Iowan humor, Vicki is a great example of what it takes to surmount the challenges and be a successful independent musician.
Biden thinks they’re coming because he’s a nice guy. A nice guy or not, he’s created a humanitarian problem, but more critically, he’s created a National Insecurity Problem. While Joe counts the future Democrats entering America as migrants, are we being set up for another 9/11?

Still unsure if they need to get lawyers, our heroes emerge victorious from their mission to make the big leagues by being on with the one and only Joe Rogan. It only took breaking in, barricading the door, and hours of threats, but our hosts know when someone is just playing hard to get. While Joe has never released the episode, we’re confidently waiting, and until then, enjoy these highlights. You’ll notice there is still more work to be done, however. Our attempts to emphasize science and nuance were met with interesting tangents on DMT, wolves, grass-fed butter honey toast, and general frustration with research, but we know our boy Mr. Rogaine will come around eventually!

Joe and Siobhan Haugh are a lovely couple that we interviewed back in February, just as news of the virus spreading throughout China was hitting the world. Similar to our current pandemic, our interview with the Haughs also taught us that ultimately, we are not in control. The greater flexibility we can have in the plans we make, the more successful we can be in our relationships. While Joe and Sibohan recognized the need in their busy lives to prioritize finding time to be together, their involvement in their parish and communities also highlighted the mutual benefits that flow from having a positive impact on more than just one another.
Most of us have been at home a lot more than normal, which led us to realize that this week may be high time for a discussion about "stuff." Too many of us have too much clutter. Clutter not just in our house, but in our minds, in our thoughts, and in our goals. That's why today's episode is super important to us. Happy rewind week! While Joe and OG are hanging up at the beach sipping mojitos (okay, maybe not really), I’m turning back the clock to visit some of our favorite past interviews. We're kicking this week off strong with one of our favorite interviews in the catalogue: Vicki Robin, author of bestselling book, Your Money or Your Life. You can read our original show notes below: Why are you saving money? How much joy are you receiving from that “stuff” you own? You may rethink your financial plan after today’s show, because our guest is the co-author of the HUGE bestselling book, Your Money or Your Life. Vicki Robin helped shape the financial independence/retire early movement, and she’s on her way down to the basement today to talk to us about re-examining your beliefs around your life and your money. Your money or your life, indeed. In our headlines segment we’ll talk about student loans with Robert Farrington from The College Investor. He’ll talk about how over 3,000 people just took part in an event to pay off a TON of student loan debt. We’ll share best practices, how best to apply to lower interest rates on your debt, and how to pay them down in a way that makes sense for your situation. We’ll also discuss the new SEC proposed fiduciary rule. Is THIS finally the rule we’ve been looking for? Will it replace the mostly knocked-down rule from the Department of Labor? We’ll review the rule and discuss what you need to know about it on today’s show. Plus, we throw out the Haven Life line to Karen, who’s contributing to a brand spankin’ new health savings account. How should she best use it? We’ll share how these plans work on today’s show. We’ll also answer another listener letter, throw out Doug’s trivia question, and watch him try to juggle….one ball. Thanks to MagnifyMoney.com for sponsoring Stacking Benjamins as well. MagnifyMoney.com saves users on average $450 when they compare, ditch, switch and save on credit cards, student loan refinancing, checking, savings and more. When you are going to make changes in your life or your job, you are most likely uneasy. This can sometimes overwhelm the good that can come from the change, and instead, leave you stuck. So, who of us has ever laid out the plan, put it on paper, had it vetted by other experts, and still can't take the first step? Well, my guest for episode 6 joined me to talk about the theme: Go for it. Tianyi Joe Zhu is an entrepreneur and managing partner at Playground Capital. While Joe is still young in his career, he has not let fear hold him back and has accomplished great things including working with partners in Asia to build his current venture. He's also a millennial that doesn't let the critics get him down. He has built relationships through two administrations in Washington, D.C., and recently testified as part of the Millennial Debt Coalition to discuss how today's decisions will affect the younger generations of our society. He also was named AABDC 50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business. 1:07 When you are early in your career, I'd say at least for the first 15-20 years, it's critical that you make connections. This is definitely important if you want to strike out on your own. It's important to remember if you build your connections, you don't have to know everything, you just have to know someone who does. Joe discussed the importance of building relationships domestically and abroad and the key points of finding common ground to build on. 4:06 COVID-19 created change for all of us. In our home lives and work lives. When Joe began working with a global team, part in the United States and part in China, he had to adapt new ways to do business. Enter tools like Zoom, that we all have become accustomed to. In our house, we even celebrated birthdays with people from three countries through Zoom. There is still a need to nurture your network and create new relationships, it's just currently through the screen instead of with a handshake. So, we have new tools, and it has helped us hobble along through this time of decreased travel. But, for those of us that are used to spending so much of our time on the road, it has also let us take a step back and analyze the need for work travel. When is it necessary to get on a plane and go, or when can we jump on a video call and accomplish what we need to? I am a big fan of face-to-face conversations when you are building relationships, but efficiency is attractive and will now be part of our considerations moving forward. We also talk about the environment in which so many decisions are being made right now that affect us all in Washington, D.C. Joe and I both have had the opportunity to work across departments and legislative bodies in our nation's capital. The need to build relationships and connections in Washington is real, almost tangible. It should not be a city that intimidates us, but instead, a city that we can visit, connect, and make our voices heard. 6:25 We discuss two challenges. First, find one example where you may be suffering from analysis paralysis and see what you need to get past to go. Do you truly have all the information you need? If so, it is time to go, and know that until you dive in, you won't know everything you are going to face? You have to be ready to evolve and make changes once you have started. The second challenge is to think about one to two ways you can build relationships during this time. Maybe it means sending a note in the mail or reaching out to someone who has been on your leads list, but you haven't talked to because you are normally on the road traveling. Identify those people and make it happen. 20:54 Thank you again for tuning in. Please leave reviews and comment if you have personal examples for either of these challenges or people that you have reached out to with success since you have more desktop time. While Joe refuses to read a Victorian-era play, he's more than happy to watch film adaptations of them! This week we're checking out a plethora of YA tropes: the collaboration between suitors in an impersonation ruse, a "tricky kiss" and an epistolary romance. On one side of the ring is Sierra Burgess Is A Loser, one of our few remaining Noah Centineo joints, which gets as many things right as it does wrong (pour one out for the disinterest in female friendships!). On the other is the queer, POC frontedThe Half Of It, which is a warm, delightful film. Aside from a slightly frustrating climax, this is an absolute gem and features one of the best friendships we've ever seen on the show.In homework: Brenna has finished Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo (mentioned in the May/June forecast) and "similar to The Virgin Suicides" Long Live The Tribe of Fatherless Girls by Tier Kiera Madden. Joe, meanwhile, advocates for the fantasy escapism of House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig.Wanna connect with the show? While Joe isn't as fanatical about it as Mike is, he... well, you'll have to listen to see how he feels about it. So go ahead and scrub those hands for at least 20 seconds and then hit play!

Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
Comedy, as they say, is relative. So it takes a very special film to not only make an impact in its own time but also remain one of the most beloved comedies of all time. Yet, director Billy Wilder struck gold when he assembled Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon for his 1959 comedy hit, Some Like It Hot. Named the best comedy film by the American Film Institute in 2000, Wilder's classic has remained a cinematic landmark, and we were so pleased to have Nell Minow of MovieMom.com and RogerEbert.com join us to mark the film's 60th anniversary. Tackling gender roles, sexual politics and toxic masculinity would be a daunting task for a film today. So listen in to hear how Some Like It Hot manages to handle these topics with care and aplomb and without sacrificing its many laughs. Some Like It Hot synopsis, courtesy of IMDB: After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band's sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire as things heat up and the mobsters close in. While Joe is still away at Coachella Cianan and Phil take you on a journey of total randomness. The boys cover road rage, racism in dating and things made expensive on purpose for exclusion.
There are fans, there are superfans, and then there are people like Joe List. While Joe couldn’t tell one flannel-wearing gaggle of grunge rockers from another when he first bought Pearl Jam’s third studio album Vitalogy in 1994, no other band would ever strike as emotionally resonant a chord deep within him. Something about the heavy guitars, soaring vocals and lyrics heavily laden with meaning and story would drive Joe not only to seek out every B-side and obscure bit of trivia he could stand to commit to memory, but also to see Pearl Jam live in concert at least 40 times. As far as obsessions go, Joe’s love for these sons of Seattle could only ever be surpassed by his prodigious and prolific career in stand-up comedy, which has taken him to the finals of NBC’s Last Comic Standing and the second season of Netflix’s The Stand Ups. Who doesn't love to talk about guitar tone?? Aside from the obvious fact that much of your tone comes from your fingers, it is also greatly affected by your beloved gear: your instruments, amps, effects pedals, etc. Lots of the gear that you purchase off the shelf can actually be improved or changed through mods / modifications to the internal circuitry - some of which you can do yourself. We bring in guitarist, amp technician, music teacher, and Berklee graduate, Miles Harshman, to give us the ins and outs of musical equipment. In Part 1 of this conversation we dig into guitar tone, ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan to Robin Trower. Miles talks about his love of different types of fuzz pedals, an effect that Joe rarely uses. While Joe uses several types of overdrive and natural small amp distortion, he commits to giving fuzz another try. Miles presents an overview of how tube amps work - their different gains stages, how the tubes break up, the feeling of a tube amp due to the sag/sponginess in the rectifier tube. Miles tells us about his journey to becoming a gear technician, including building his first stratocaster in high school and his more recent telecaster with unusual switches. We talk about clean guitar tones, and how hollow, semi-hollow, and chambered bodies affect the your sound. Miles begins telling us about his experiences at Berklee College of Music, including the many ensemble choices, the enormous practice room amps, and the general atmosphere. Check out next week's episode to discover who was Miles' freshman year roommate!

Joe Lawler has been the music writer for Juice Magazine and Des Moines Register for the past 14 years until recently when he decided to step down. During his time as a journalist, he covered many concerts and profiled a large number of bands on both the local and national scene. Being the music writer for central Iowa's largest circulated publication made his accolades sought after. While Joe is now off the major platform and walked away from what some consider a "dream job", he has not put away his pencil or gone quietly into the night. He writes for his blog (Livelocalman.com) and continues to co-host Critical Mass, the radio music talk-show on KFMG. Joe has come to be respected by many in the music community and will be missed at his old post. Thanks, Joe.

On February 18, 2009, Elyria Fire Captain Joe Pronesti responded to a fire alarm activation call on a college campus. The first arriving engine reported heavy smoke coming from multiple buildings. In search of the source of the smoke, crews would learn the fire was in a tunnel that connected multiple buildings on the campus. Captain Pronesti was involved in advancing a hoseline and fighting the underground fire. While approximately 300’ inside the tunnel on the attack, his low air alarm started ringing. He ran out of air before making it completely out, disconnected his regulator and breathed products of combustion. Upon exiting, he provided a briefing to his commander and without warning, or his knowledge, collapsed to the ground (from smoke exposure and exhaustion). This occurred just a few minutes after exiting the structure. Had he collapsed in the smoke filled tunnel, the results could have been catastrophic. On a side note, at the time of the fire, the Elyria Fire Department was undergoing an evaluation of the fire department budget and staffing. There was an outside consultant on premise when the fire alarm activation came in and, to say the least, the crews were worried and distracted. Some might even speculate they were frustrated and perhaps feeling betrayed by the city. When you are worried, it can weigh on your mind and on your situational awareness because part of what is on your mind is the concern of cutbacks. This can occupy some of the space that might otherwise be used to form situational awareness at an emergency scene. While Joe only makes a brief mention of this, during our extensive conversation off-line, it was evident that he was distracted by the concerns over fire department cutbacks. Some takeaways from the interview include: 1.The first arriving engine reported heavy smoke from multiple buildings. Captain Pronesti noted the size up “didn’t make sense in his mind.” This can happen when we receive visual or audible information that is outside our norm. They don’t see many large building fires in Elyria, let alone multiple large building fires all at the same time at the same location. This caused confusion among responders. 2.Relaxed inspections and code enforcement led to the tunnels becoming a storage location for extra furniture and supplies, providing fuel for the fire. 3.The department was used to handling fires with their on-duty staff and were on the mindset they could handle this fire as well, though they would end up calling mutual aid from several other communities. 4.Captain Pronesti went through four SCBA bottles and was fatigued. But he pressed on because his mindset was he needed to be on the attack line. 5.When he ran out of air, he was, by his estimate, at least 10 minutes into the tunnel, with less than five minutes of air left. 6.As happens so often when smaller departments experience an unusually large fire, the responders can get tricked into treating the big fire like it’s a routine house fire. A fire in a 300+ foot tunnel with no other way out is anything but routine and nothing like a house fire. 7.As Captain Pronesti shared… Ego eats brain… and he was caught up on the perceived need to be in the middle of the action at all costs. SDCC 2012... If you can't think of at least a half of a dozen things you're excited about you need to find a new hobby. I don't think I said this on the show, but here are my favorite announcements from each line. For Masters this guy was killing it for me. Nostalgia will usually trump everything and Jitsu was one of my favorites as a kid. While Joe fans got the shaft once again panel-wise, fan sites got the opportunity to talk to the man with the plan, Derryl DePriest. He sounds excited for the 50th anniversary next year. He let it be known while it's the 50th for the brand, it will still focus on ARAH and that makes me excited. For the transforming giant robot lover in me, the news that we'll be getting the Asian Exclusives/China Imports trumped even a mechanized space dinosaur from a video game. And you know how much I love all of those things individually, let alone all in one toy. Lastly Star Wars was pretty lackluster, but again the nostalgia came through. We didn't just get the nostalgia of a Speeder Bike that explodes, for the first time it will come with a flight stand. While I've got my issues with the stand itself, it's a welcome addition to the line. All in all it was a great show. Can't wait until next year.
While Joe is off in Italy hanging out and playing soccer with the Pope, we had to find someone to fill in for him. Luckily our friend Scott was able to drop by and fill Joe's very tiny and unfunny shoes. The show seemed to go so well that I'm not sure if we even want Joe back, but you can be the judge of that when you give it a listen.
