Play Episode Listen Later May 7, 2025 28:37

In this reflective and personal episode, I share a powerful insight that emerged during my weekly guided meditation and journaling group, Curious Minds, in Mount Maunganui. As the group grows and flourishes, I have been facing an internal resistance — the sneaky, familiar voice that whispers, “This is too good to be true.” Do you ever find yourself thinking that? I explore the roots of this mindset, how it shows up in different areas of my life, and why many of us struggle to feel safe in moments of success and joy. I also offer gentle, grounded strategies to help you expand your capacity for joy without self-sabotage. In this episode you will learn: What the "too good to be true" mindset is and how it might be showing up in your own life Why success and happiness can sometimes feel unsafe or unfamiliar How protective pessimism can rob you of presence and peace The connection between fear of loss, control, and self-sabotage Practical ways to create space between your thoughts and your truth How to gently rewire your brain with more supportive, regulating thoughts The importance of building your capacity to hold joy — and why it's a practice Insights from the Curious Minds group and the value of community reflection - What stood out the most for you in this episode? Sparked by a message from a participant in my coaching program—“I feel like I know my authentic self, but I can't be her”—this episode explores why being true to ourselves can feel so hard, especially when fear and the desire to belong get in the way. I also share my own reflections, including the moment I realised that being liked by everyone was no longer worth the cost of self-abandonment.  From navigating rejection to celebrating small moments of alignment, this episode is a reminder that authenticity is not about being fixed or perfect, but about honoring who you are in the present—and having the courage to live that truth out loud. In this episode you will learn: Why knowing your authentic self isn't always enough and what gets in the way of expressing it The emotional cost of authenticity, and why not being liked by everyone is part of the deal The difference between seeking approval vs. cultivating inner alignment How to celebrate small moments of authenticity and build trust in yourself Why authenticity is fluid and ever-changing, not a fixed identity How to magnetise the right people—even if it means repelling others - How did you show up authentically today and how did that make you feel? Do you care what other people think about you? Let's be real, caring about what others think is a natural part of being human. But here's the thing: I've learned to care a lot less than I used to. It's not about flipping off everyone else's opinions and solely focusing on yourself, I'm suggesting something different. It's about shifting the importance we give to others' opinions and prioritising our own self-perception. Your opinion of yourself matters the most because you're the one living your life, nobody else. So, in this episode I am going to share a handful of things you can start doing to begin letting go of the fear of judgement from others.  You will learn about:  Why other people's opinions have NOTHING to do with you What the ‘spotlight theory' is and how it can transform your confidence The reason embarrassing situations are “embarrassing” What other people's opinions are a projection of How to show up authentically and prioritise YOUR opinion How you can truly break free from seeking approval and attract the right people into your life If you are wondering “how am I able to know what's important to me, how am I able to willingly sit with these uncomfortable feelings, how can I integrate not caring what other people think of me” – let's have a conversation. EP29 - Explained: What is the Higher Self?

This episode was inspired by a recent experience I had at a breathwork workshop in Raglan. Throughout the breathing journey I got really emotional. My body wanted to release and cry and shake and hum and it was a lot, but I felt safe and I stayed connected to my higher self throughout. She was there with me from the very beginning. I could hear her say, “let it out, let it go,” without feeling embarrassed about it or like I was being judged. It reminded me that when we can connect to our higher self, that wise inner knowing, we are able to access qualities such as compassion. So I thought I would share more about higher self today, and how you can connect with yours to reach your highest potential. You will learn about: What ‘higher self' actually is and why it's so important Ways to access your higher selves wisdom How your higher self can guide you through difficult times Simple methods you can use to connect with your higher self daily How you can start closing the gap between where you are and where you want to be   Do you want to connect more deeply with your higher self?
