Today we are headed to the mountains of Rwanda for part one of our two-part series on the story of Dian Fossey. Her unorthodox and sometimes volatile “active conservation” methods undoubtedly saved the mountain gorillas, but ultimately may have led to her demise. Her love for the animals and passion for conservation changed the tides for the future of the species – never underestimate the change one person can enact. We turn to nature for so many reasons. To find peace, seek answers, to heal and more. It's amazing what a simple walk in the woods can do for the soul and thus, why so many of us trek out into the wild in search of our own slice of magic. But not every person found in the forest is searching for the same. Some turn to nature not for magic, but to search for victims. Today we discuss the crimes of The Trailside Killer, who terrorized the trails and claimed the lives of at least 10 people in National and State Parks of northern California. Join us this week as we venture around the US to different National Parks. First stop is Cuyahoga National Park. A park that holds a lot of history and is a staple for conservation and restoration of it's resources. Here lies an abandon ghost town, where people were forced to vacate. Now all that is left are their homes and businesses, boarded up and abandon. Next we head to Wrangell St. Elias National Park in Alaska. The place of a once upon of time booming mining town. Today, it sits in the beautiful mountain sides abandon and filled with paranormal stories. Lastly, we go to Lake Mead, the deadliest National Park in the U.S. When the Hoover Damn was built, it submerged one of its towns underwater. We love our National Parks and we know you do too but when you're out there, remember to enjoy the view but watch your back. Bring a passport because this week we're not only going to more than one park, but we are traveling around the world to get to them. In this episode we will explore a series of short amazing stories from around the globe. We are exploring almost unbelievable incidents of animals who rescue people, other species than their own, and even the environment. Join us as we head to Serengeti National Park for the Great Migration and an unlikely hero who resides there. Keep your toddler close as we head to the National forests of Montana where a grizzly bear is acused of abducting a child. Pack a life vest as we head into the most dangerous waters in the world, located in a New Zealand National Park, where being consumed by a shark is a real threat. Meet Lady, the only survivor of her kind after poachers demolished her pride. Join us for these stories, and so much more. These stories will make you really begin to think - Do animals have emotions and feelings? Can they sympathize with others? Are animals people too? On Thursday, January 10, 2013, 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson never returned home after a day at school. The following day, his body was found wedged in the middle of a large wrestling mat in the corner of his Valdosta, Georgia high school's gym. Kendrick's death was ruled a tragic accident and the investigation was closed after four months. However, the Johnson family was adamant that their son was the victim of foul play and his death was being covered up by law enforcement and school officials. Was Kendrick Johnson murdered by other students at school or did he fall into the mat while trying to retrieve his shoes, causing him to suffocate to death?
