I've been in the competitive scene for five years now. In 2022, I clinched the coveted title of Team of the Year in Brisket from the Champions Barbecue Alliance Association. Over the past few years, I've proudly secured two top-3 brisket finishes at the fiercely competitive San Antonio Rodeo, where the stakes are high with nearly 300 teams competing. What really keeps me going, though, is the bond I've formed with fellow BBQ enthusiasts. It's not just about winning. It's about the friendships and sense of community we've built.

Episode 309 is the twenty-first episode of our mini-series on the Tippit murder. David Belin, the celebrated Warren Commission attorney called it the "Rosetta Stone" of the JFK assassination. It may very well be just that...but for other reasons! In this twenty-first episode, we bring to you an interview conducted by Dallas JFK researcher Michael Brownlow and Professor William Pulte. Their conversation with an witness whose fear required their identity to remain anonymous but who was a waitress at Austin's BBQ and who worked there in the period leading up to, and after, the assassination of President Kennedy. She knew J.D. Tippit personally and witnessed him at Austin's BBQ with Jack Ruby. She witnesses Ruby and Tippit having coffee together. And she saw all three of these men together at the restaurant. Ruby, Tippit and Oswald...together. She saw enough to easily assume that they were friends. We hear it locally from a first hand witness and we close the show out with remarks from a veteran researcher Joan Mellen who interviewed more witnesses than almost anyone. And Joan, rest her soul, reminds us that the broader record of witnesses confirms that these men knew each other. Yes…there is a grave possibility that the true "Rosetta Stone" of November 22nd, 1963, might just lie in the quiet Dallas suburb of Oak Cliff, waiting for us to finally put the pieces together. At Fat Plate BBQ, everything began with a passion for outdoor cooking. What began as a weekend hobby in our own backyard quickly turned into a passion for creating bold and creative flavors that help make your next cook your best cook. I first caught the BBQ bug over a decade and a half ago, after buying a used Primo Oval XL from Craigslist. Probably 35 different cookers later, Fat Plate BBQ was born. Somewhere in the middle of that timeline, I started competing in as many sanctioned and unsanctioned BBQ contests as I could find. Just as my competition journey was picking up, COVID hit and shut down most comps anywhere near me. My desire to continue scratching that BBQ itch manifested itself in a slightly different way. With a background in tech, I decided to use the pandemic caused downtime to start an online BBQ supply store: boostyourbbq.com. I was able to use my knowledge of competition BBQ to source products, help others on their BBQ journey, and just straight up learn everything I could. I start the episode riding high off a homemade sandwich and the confidence only Martin's BBQ chips can give a man. According to the internet, Pennsylvania is getting anywhere from one inch to ninety eight inches of snow, trees are exploding in Canada, and grocery stores are out of everything except Dasani. I break down the panic, the fake urgency, and the group hysteria while delivering the only six winter survival tips you will ever need. These tips are foolproof, medically questionable, and absolutely not approved by anyone with credentials.From there, we spiral into Soulja Boy's fashion empire, influencer politicians, and the idea of Farrah Abraham becoming the mayor of Texas. I question who is buying Soulja Boy shoes with his face on them, wonder how much money it would take to ruin my public reputation with a full outfit, and seriously consider a future where podcasts replace government.
