The next step in the fundamental pillars of the B.E.L.I.E.V.E strategy is good old-fashioned love. The kind of love that does not notice anything but hope, faith, and passion. The type of love that is as deep and as vast as any large body of water on this planet. This is so critical for multiple reasons. These reasons are not as warm and fuzzy as the traditional views we have of love. These qualities are strengthened through the darkness, depression, anxiety, and self-defeating thoughts we often experience. You will run into A LOT of disappointment throughout the process of getting into your school and living out your dream of being a successful student-athlete. You will need to be in love with the process entirely. The process will test your love for what you are doing time and time again. You will have to be sure to keep your mind where it needs to be through some very deep soul searching. 08 AUG 2020Edified: Episode 17In the past couple of weeks, I’ve shared nine affirmations, and I thought it would be fun to say all nine of them and absorb how it feels to have them flow through our minds. #1 “It is true that there will always be someone more _____ than I am. But I have the seeds of godliness within me, and my journey is uniquely mine. God has called me to a work and He qualifies me for the work through the Atoning power of Jesus Christ. My gifts together with God’s grace makes me not only ENOUGH, but the perfect person to accomplish the work I am called to do.”#2 “It’s true that there are people around me who are facing greater trials than I am. But my God is limitless. He wants me to pray for others AND for the desires of my own heart. When I approach my Heavenly Father in prayer, my greatest desire is that I might align my will with His.” #3 “Experiencing sorrow and hardships are normal parts of mortality and I grow when I choose to lean into my Savior during those times. Because of his Grace, I can be happy even during times of trouble when I choose to focus my life on the Savior and on the things of eternity.”#4 “It is true I am a sinner. It’s also true that I sometimes repeat sins I’ve repented of. But my sins and my weaknesses are swallowed up in the supreme sacrifice of Jesus Christ, whose atonement on my behalf is both infinite and eternal. I am both amazed by and saved by God’s grace.”#5 “My mistakes and imperfections are part of mortality and they are a necessary part of God’s plan for my progress to become like Him. God is not the author of SHAME and separation; He is the author of FORGIVENESS and UNITY through the enabling powers of Christ’s Atonement. God’s love for me is a gift freely given.”#6 “I have been given spiritual gifts and talents that are uniquely mine to share. Acts of service come in many forms. If I pray for help, the Lord will teach me how to use my gifts to lift, love, and serve others.” #7 “It’s true that I am only one person and there is a limit to how bright or far-reaching my single light can shine. But God didn’t ask me to light the world on my own. He has asked me to hold my light up “that others may see” the path to Christ --- To do my part in helping Him, the true source of all light, to light the world.” #8 “Becoming a gospel scholar doesn’t require me to spend hours a day reading my scriptures. If I consistently spend 20-30 minutes each day immersed in gospel study, and I invite the Holy Ghost to be my teacher, or my spiritual tutor, then I am on the path of a gospel scholar. The Holy Ghost can teach me all things that I need to know.”#9 “It is true that what I feel called to do requires me to spend time away from my family--time that I cannot be available for them physically or emotionally. Therefore, it is important that I designate “protected time” periods during the day and week that I will devote 100% to them. It is important that my spouse and my children know that if they need me, I will push the other “stuff” aside whenever possible to be there for them--and to be 100% present in the moment.”DOT InvitationChoose one affirmation and repeat it every morning before the day begins. There is a brand new country song called “Be A Light” sung by various artists including Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott & Chris Tomlin... The song was released during the pandemic with all proceeds going to the MusiCares Covid 19 Relief Fund...  The song which gives an incredible sense of hope and perseverance was written by Rhett, Josh Miller, Josh Thompson, and Matt Dragstrem and the title “Be A Light” basically sums up the entire message...  Yes, I realize this is pretty basic but it is also something that we need to often reinforce on a daily basis... With the 24-hour constant news stream, now more than ever the perception of our world is doom and gloom. The ridiculous over glorified sensationalism has infiltrated all aspects of our lives and even if one were to take a completely objective view of our current environment, “Dark” would be a word many of us would use to depict the world's happenings at this moment... That all said, even if the overall view of the now is not a favorable one, there is only one thing we can guarantee control of when it comes to what's going on... Our REACTION. All too many of us get caught up in the bullshit and our words and actions don't help solve the problems, they exasperate it...  So...  Just like the song says...  “Don't hide in the dark, You were born to shine, In a world full of hate, Be a light.”  That's all we can control...  -EB    P.S. One of the best benefits about flying at night is to look out the window and see millions of lights against the black backdrop. The lights signal that a city or town is down there — a place where families live.    Our spiritual lives are the same way. This world has its share of darkness, but God looks down and sees His lights. He sees the good that says, “Love lives here.”    Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”  We are told in Scripture that as believers, we have indescribable joy. Jesus Christ lives within us, lighting us from the inside out.  With that gift comes responsibility: We don’t have the option of staying hidden. When Jesus told His followers they were “the light of the world,” they understood what He meant, sitting there on the mountainside above the Sea of Galilee.    Many of them took this to heart, shining a light in the spiritual darkness and sharing the Good News every chance they got.  Let’s pray.  Lord, help us to continually shine the light of your love and your Gospel in our world.
