The United States is still a year away from the 2024 presidential election, but on Wednesday, voters around the country are heading to the booths to decide on other key positions and measures. The most-watched races in Wednesday's off-year elections have been dominated by the ongoing debate over abortion rights, as well as those in key battleground states ahead of next year's big election. Experts say the elections could preview challenges that might arise next year, with Wednesday's results potentially acting as an interim verdict on Joe Biden's presidency. Washington D.C. correspondent Simon Marks spoke to Corin Dann.

SVB collapse, surviving Biden's presidency
President Biden came into office with an incredibly slim legislative majority. And yet despite just 50 Democratic seats in the Senate, the first two years of Biden's Presidency saw the passage of some extremely ambitious laws. The potential exists for the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act to reshape the economy in ways that we haven't seen in a long time. Brian Deese has been the head of the National Economic Council these last two years, and was thus directly involved in the passage and shaping of these laws. So what will they accomplish, and how will they ultimately be judged. We spoke to Brian in his final week in the NEC role about this new era of "industrial strategy", and what he learned during this two-year stint.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

One year into Joe Biden's presidency, Democrats, who have a razor thin control of the Senate and House, have had little success in passing visionary progressive legislation.
President Biden marked his first year in office on a downbeat note: low approval ratings, a defeat of the Democrats' voting rights bill in the Senate, and the Build Back Better Bill stalled. But perhaps Biden's biggest political concern is how he fares within his own party. For a look at why this is crucial, along with some historical context, Special Correspondent Jeff Greenfield joins. The next nine days are the most important of Joe Biden's young presidency: He needs to rescue his legislative agenda in Congress, rescue his party's political candidates in two states and rescue America's leadership on climate policy in Scotland. The White House is hoping for a virtuous cycle of developments that will help accomplish all three goals: Securing a deal on the reconciliation bill could help Democratic candidates in Virginia and New Jersey. The climate provisions of the final deal will tell world leaders at next week's COP26 how serious the United States is when it comes to reaching Biden's stated emissions goals. It's a crossroads moment for Joe Biden -- these next few weeks could make or break his presidency as he tries to fix a broken supply chain, prevent a new Covid surge, and pass his domestic agenda through a divided Congress. Plus, the January 6 select committee moves to hold Steve Bannon in criminal contempt for defying a congressional subpoena. And all eyes on the Virginia gubernatorial election as Democrats call in the heavy hitters to make the case for Terry McAuliffe -- but will it be enough to get him over the finish line? Inflation is still creeping upwards while the House weighs a $1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill already approved by the Senate. Our southern border states are being sucked dry of resources by possibly COVID positive migrants slipping into the country. Afghanistan has fallen into the hands of the Taliban before our diplomats and Afghan translators had a chance to escape, necessitating the deployment of six-thousand more U.S. troops to the area. Even after all this time that has passed, more evidence continues to emerge as to how fraudulent Biden's Presidency really is. That said we have caught those that rigged the election altering and destroying the evidence as it's uncovered. No one can name one thing Biden has done since his coup that has done anything but harm the US and its people, Establishment GOP attempt to claim Trump will not be the nominee in 2024 attempting to blame Trump for the GOP loss of the House and Senate, that's funny because the truth is it was the establishment GOP that supported and aided every attack on Trump by the left from the fake Trump-Russia probe to the fraudulent election of 2020. We need to replace the establishment GOP as they are virtually no different than the democrats. Finally, there is a meme going around stating how Trump could oust Biden in 2022 and get 6 more years in the White House, while factually true, it is unlikely. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thejacobjohnstonshow/message
https://youtu.be/RUNhGoyV85M Trump launched a ‘no holds barred' attack on the Biden administration yesterday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando Florida. The Democrats are passing a $1.9 Trillion COVID-19 relief bill, with only 9% allocated to combating the virus; Big Tech censorship of conservatives continues unchecked, and Biden's failure to boycott the Beijing Olympics, despite the CCP's genocide of the Uyghur—were among Trump and other leading Republicans' targets for criticism. Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) wants states to fight the radical Democratic agenda that's seeing transgender men competing in women's sports; minimum wage raised to $15, potentially costing 1.5 million jobs and a $15 billion bridge being built between New York and Canada. With Democrats dominating both houses of parliament, blocking the progressive overhaul of America could rest with the states. #COVIDReliefBill #CPAC #BeijingOlympics - Subscribe for updates: https://bit.ly/WideAngleBrendon2 - Support us

President Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday looked a bit different from past ceremonies ushering in a new administration. There is, after all, immensely heightened security in Washington, DC, and a swirling pandemic, not to mention the absence of the outgoing president, the first time that's happened in more than a century and a half. It's been a day rife with history and packed with unforgettable moments. Here's a look at some of the highlights so far:Trump leaves the White HouseThough former President Donald Trump did not attend Biden's swearing-in ceremony, he was publicly seen several times, including when he left the White House as president for the last time shortly after 8 a.m. ET.Before boarding Marine One with the former first lady, Trump told reporters at the White House it was a "great honor" to serve as 45th President of the United States before saying goodbye.Trump speaks at Joint Base Andrews before heading to FloridaTrump also held a final farewell ceremony, where both he and former first lady Melania Trump delivered remarks. The former President thanked his family and chief of staff, and promised to "always fight." He also wished the incoming Biden administration "great luck," though he didn't mention his successor by name.Melania Trump, meanwhile, told attendees that "being your first lady was my greatest honor." The two then boarded Air Force One for the last time just before 9 a.m., taking the presidential plane to their Florida home.Biden attends churchJust after the Trumps boarded Air Force One, Biden and first lady Jill Biden headed over to Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in DC, where they attended mass with their family, Vice President Kamala Harris and her family. They were joined by the congressional leaders of both parties.Incoming presidents typically attend services on the morning of their inauguration, often at St. John's Episcopal Church, a small church across Lafayette Square from the White House known as "The Church of the Presidents."Biden arrives at CapitolBiden arrived at the US Capitol shortly after 11 a.m. and Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, accompanied him and Jill Biden up the steps of the iconic building. When Biden arrived at the inauguration stage, he greeted his predecessor and former boss, former President Barack Obama, on his way to his seat. He received a lengthy ovation from those gathered on the stage and sat down at 11:19 a.m.Harris and Obama first bumpAs she walked to her seat on the inaugural stage, Harris shared double fist bumps with Obama. The gesture, exchanged shortly before Harris was sworn in as vice president, carried symbolic weight as Obama and Harris made history as the first African Americans to serve as president and vice president, respectively.Harris similarly fist bumped Michelle Obama, who made history as the country's first African American first lady.Harris is sworn in as vice presidentHarris took the oath of office at 11:42 a.m. She used two Bibles during the oath, which was administered by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.Harris officially became the first female, first Black and first South Asian vice president at noon.Biden is sworn in as the 46th presidentBiden completed his oath of office at 11:48 a.m., using a treasured family Bible that dates to the 19th century and was held by Jill Biden. The oath was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. After being sworn in, Biden delivered an inaugural address in which he called for unity and pledged to be a "president for all Americans," including those who did not support his campaign at his inauguration address. The President also offered a forewarning his remarks, describing the nation as weathering a "winter of peril" amid the coronavirus pandemic.Singers and poet performThe inauguration also featured several celebrity performances, including a rendition of the National Anthem by Lady Gaga.
