Some of the biggest headlines in music and celebrity culture took center stage on this Best of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. Da Brat shared a heartfelt behind-the-scenes story about recording “Da B Side” with The Notorious B.I.G., recalling how the rap legend effortlessly delivered his verse without writing anything down and left a lasting impression on her as both an artist and friend. The crew also discussed Treach’s latest comments shutting down any possibility of a Naughty By Nature reunion, citing years of broken trust and business disputes despite fans hoping the group could come together again after recent public appearances. According to recent reports, Treach made it clear that the legendary trio’s long-running conflicts have made a reunion virtually impossible. The conversation also turned to sports and relationships as Brittney Griner’s divorce filing from Cherelle Griner after years of marriage sparked discussion about family, finances, and co-parenting. Recent reports indicate Griner is seeking joint custody of their son while navigating the legal process. Meanwhile, Ray J made headlines with an emotional message to Princess Love on their anniversary, publicly expressing that he still hopes to save their marriage despite their ongoing separation and multiple divorce filings over the years. The Best Of episode also featured Gary With Da Tea’s celebrity updates, laughs from the crew, and classic moments that blended entertainment news, relationship talk, and hip-hop history into one memorable show. **Episode #1261 – The Clay Edwards Show with Creston Berch** More testosterone for your morning drive. Clay and Creston Berch open with steak talk (patio cuts vs. ribeye, air-fryer cubes, meal prep, and a shout-out to Grills of Mississippi for getting the pellet smoker fixed), then hit the 39th annual Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza in Pearl this weekend—kids free, adults $10 throwback pricing—while noting the competing event at the fairgrounds and the old backwater/pump rift that caused the split. They dig into the data-center push around Jackson and Lake Hico: the deal is done, the six-month “moratorium” is about minority set-asides and political cutouts, electrical and HVAC trades are about to cash in for years, and Fred Shanks nails the real choice—American control of the AI race or Chinese control. No conspiracy required. Main segment: Sophie Cunningham's ESPN interview standing up for biological women and girls in sports, the quiet history of a female-to-male player already in the WNBA, Brittney Griner speculation, Magic Johnson's son as the ultimate “what if,” and why Clay thinks the league that pushed every social-justice fad deserves the FAFO of actual men taking roster spots. Bonus: the USA Today columnist who dragged Emmett Till into a Caitlin Clark complaint and had to walk it back. Derek calls in on the Nolan Wells case—boat culture, bilge pumps, planing out, and why people who've never been on a small pleasure boat keep spreading nonsense. Quick recommendation for Chris Williamson's interview with Annie Jacobsen on the first six days of a bioweapon outbreak. Berry's Seafood ends its free birthday buffet (culture and tipping are the reason). Closing open-mic on Black Lives Matter's “Black people are tired” post—wrong answers only—plus the usual culture-rot notes on public-space respect, speaker-phone etiquette, and why claiming everything is racism means nothing is.

We also hit the biggest on-court swings of the week, from Angel Reese's injury ripple effects to Caitlin Clark's monster stat line, Kelsey Mitchell's scorching streak, and Brittney Griner's best path to another ring. • Sandy Brondello's “protected species” comment, what she meant, and why it landed wrong • Whether the one-game suspension feels fair given intent and public impact • Angel Reese's knee injury and what it forces the Atlanta Dream to fix • Caitlin Clark's 45 points and 10 assists, then the consistency question vs playoff teams • What “better efficiency” really means, including turnovers and tough-opponent production • Kelsey Mitchell's 10 straight 20-point games and the top 10 player debate • Paige Bueckers' recent form and the Paige Bueckers versus Sabrina Ionescu argument • Brittney Griner's ring-chase options and which contender fit looks scariest So please make sure to like, subscribe, comment, tell anyone who's anyone one about the WNBA and two about my show. O Martan explica bem a situação.

The WNBA officially kicks off this weekend, with its first regular-season game between the New York Liberty and the Connecticut Sun. And the Sun will be appearing on the court with a brand new weapon: Brittney Griner, a 10-time WNBA all-star and three-time Olympic gold medalist. You might consider it a miracle that we get to watch Griner play at all. That's because, in 2022, she found herself behind bars in a Russian prison. She wasn't sure when, or if, she would make it home to her family — or to basketball — again. In this episode, Brittney Griner tells her story: from joining the WNBA as a first-round draft pick, to being locked away in a Russian penal colony, to finally coming home.Show Notes Coming Home by Brittney Griner and Michelle Burford Why Brittney Griner was in Russia and what it has to do with U.S. women's basketball | NPR Photos: Brittney Griner freed from Russian penal colony in high-level prisoner swap | LA Times Basketball's Gender Pay Gap is Worse Than You Think | Vice Show CreditsHost: David GreeneExecutive Producers: Joan Isabella, Tom GrahslerSenior Producer: Michael OlcottProducer: Michaela WinbergAssociate Producer: Bibiana CorreaTalent Booker: Britt KahnEngineer: Mike VillersTile Art: Bea WallingTheme Song: Emma MungerSports in America is a production of WHYY, distributed by PRX, and part of the NPR podcast network.
Rickea Jackson and Kiki Iriafen are two of the WNBA's brightest young stars. Today on the show, they each sit down with Nikki to discuss how they're preparing for the upcoming season, the future of the league, and why they view the mental game of basketball to be just as important as their physical training. Jackson also lets us in on how she creates and styles her tunnel outfits, and Iriafen shares what it was like guarding Brittney Griner in her first two games as a rookie. Plus, they both discuss what partnering with Skechers—a new official sponsor of the WNBA—means to them. Note: this episode was recorded prior to the 2026 WNBA draft deadline so while we mention Rickea Jackson is a player for the Los Angeles Sparks, she will be playing for the Chicago Sky this coming season.

Today on The Gist, Global Reach CEO Mickey Bergman discusses the high-stakes world of international hostage negotiation. He details the emotional intelligence required to deal with foreign officials and clarifies the behind-the-scenes realities of securing the release of Americans like Paul Whelan, Trevor Reed, and Brittney Griner. Plus, Mike opens the show by analyzing the Republican-backed SAVE Act. He argues the proof-of-citizenship voting bill is purely a messaging tactic with no chance of passing the Senate, and points out that many of the voters most likely to lack ready access to a birth certificate actually favor Donald Trump. This week, I discussed the games from week 3 of Unrivaled. What I think set some teams a part from others, coaching tendencies or lack thereof. I lost my voice, but really wanted to make the episode and it's something I feel proud of. I also took the time to talk about stance on the Trump Administration, I.C.E, and the importance of using your voice (even though ironically, I lost mine). I'm linking articles below and if you'd like further information about immigration and the public perception vs the reality please reach out to me. I wrote a paper about it my freshman year of college and a lot of what I learned still holds up. I hope everyone is staying safe and I encourage people to use their platforms and speak out for injustices! -Links: https://apnews.com/article/immigration-enforcement-minnesota-ice-b0cec9d1c5bae4b62469011775082300https://www.fcnl.org/issues/just-immigrationhttps://www.reuters.com/world/ice-officers-minnesota-directed-not-interact-with-agitators-new-orders-2026-01-29/- Follow me on social media:https://linktr.ee/toriphillips5-Chapters:00:00 Intro00:21 I lost my voice | Why there was no episode last week 02:00 Housekeeping | Social Media & Censorship03:47 My stance on what's happening in the U.S. 08:00 Mist vs Rose | Blanket CBA Discussion13:20 Phantom vs Vinyl | Aliyah Boston vs Brittney Griner foul18:46 Owls vs Breeze21:07 Laces vs Hive27:53 Vinyl vs Mist33:16 Phantom vs Rose 37:15 I built this bookshelf :) 37:56 Owls vs Hive 39:41 The Hive Coach 46:50 The Lunar Owls aren't a sustainable team 48:18 Owls vs Hive stats50:25 Laces vs Breeze 54:28 Week 4 Predictions

In this episode of "Normal World", Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela tear through headlines with their signature irreverence. A $5.3 million Mars rock hits auction, Brittney Griner opens up about her detainment in Russia, and WNBA all-stars protest for higher pay—despite the league's chronic losses. Stephen Colbert's late-night show has officially been canceled, prompting a deep dive into the collapse of legacy media. The gang dissects the $40 million annual loss, corporate meddling, and why Colbert's transformation from sharp satirist to political mouthpiece may have sealed his fate. Later, Hunter Biden breaks down the chemistry of crack cocaine, a pro-Palestinian protester crashes the Tour de France, and Gwyneth Paltrow's new book reveals ashtray-flavored intimacy with Ben Affleck. They close with a satirical rundown of Ben-Gwyneth sex moves and a pointed look at whether America is retracing the final steps of ancient Rome.Today's guest on "Normal World" is Jeremy Ryan Slate. The Indiana Pacers are just two games away from winning the NBA Finals. Jay Skapinac joins the show to discuss whether the Oklahoma City Thunder can make a comeback. Meanwhile, the New York Knicks are still searching for their next head coach, but they have been denied permission to interview several candidates. There's a rumor involving Chris Webber and his former teammate Doug Christie, suggesting that Webber is the father of Christie's eldest child. Additionally, Shedeur Sanders appears to be on the outs with the Cleveland Browns, and rumors indicate that both he and third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel may not be on the team when the season starts. Mina Kimes shares her opinions on the Los Angeles riots, claiming that much of the coverage is "fake news." Lastly, Jason will discuss suspicions that Brittney Griner may be intentionally throwing games for gambling purposes, as well as address why A'ja Wilson's performance seems to have declined at the start of this season. Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Jotaka Eaddy. She is an award-winning strategist, advocate, host and connector who Forbes Magazine describes as the“Olivia Pope of Silicon Valley.” Jotaka is the Founder and CEO of Full Circle Strategies and the Founder of #WinWithBlackWomen, an intergenerational, intersectional group of Black women leaders representing business, sports, movement, politics, entertainment, and beyond who come together within their personal capacities to stand united in support of Black women. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Company Description *Win With Black Women (WWBW) is a collective of intergenerational, intersectional Black women leaders from across the nation—spanning business, politics, tech, faith, labor, academia, the arts, and social movements. We come together in our personal capacities to stand united in support of Black women, driven by a shared commitment to justice, equity, and representation. Our network has grown to over 200,000 members, and our impact spans elections, judicial appointments, and cultural shifts. From championing the nomination and confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to advocating for Black women in the Senate to supporting the first Black woman nominated by a major party for the presidency of the United States, WWBW has grown into a powerful force advancing the leadership, visibility, and policy priorities of Black women nationwide. Talking Points/Questions *1. I believe one person can create a wave of change: My mother taught me that you can be a pebble that makes a ripple, that creates a wave, that becomes a tsunami. That belief grounds everything I do—personally, professionally, and politically. 2. I’ve spent my career connecting worlds that were never meant to stay separate: Whether it’s politics, tech, or movement work—my work is about uniting people, building bridges, and turning moments into movements. 3. Win With Black Women didn’t start as a campaign—it started as a declaration: We came together in 2020 to reject a toxic narrative about Black women in power. What started as one call became a community, a coalition, and a cultural force. 4. WWBW is proof that when Black women organize, we don’t just participate—we transform: From helping confirm Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to pushing for Brittney Griner’s release—we’ve seen what’s possible when we move in unity. 5. WWBW is a force. But it’s also a family: We gather on Sundays. We raise millions. We elevate each other. What we’ve built is bigger than any election—it’s a sisterhood ready to shape the future. 6. The 2024 election changed history—again: For the first time, two Black women serve in the U.S. Senate. That matters. It’s not just symbolic. It’s strategic. It’s structural. It’s overdue. 7. This is a defining moment—not just for the country, but for us: A second Trump presidency threatens our rights, our communities, and our progress. But we’ve never waited for someone to save us. We organize. We show up. We lead. 8. The question is not ‘what now?’ The question is ‘what are we willing to do?’: This moment is asking something of all of us: to vote, to stay engaged, to hold power accountable—not just once every four years, but every day after. 9. Leadership isn’t about position—it’s about motion: Sometimes leadership looks like being out front. Other times, it looks like building space for others to shine. Either way, it’s movement. It’s momentum. It’s power. 10. Connection is my superpower: I’ve built my work—and my success—on authentic relationships. Not transactions, but real trust. That’s how we build lasting coalitions that win. #BEST #STRAW #SHMSSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A famous last name doesn't mean you will be a star. This is irrefutable when it comes to Bronny James and Shilo Sanders. Last night, Bronny James played 15 minutes and finished 0-3 from the field, with five turnovers. Joined by Steve Kim, Jason poses the question of whether LeBron will self-reflect and ever feel remorse for forcing his son into the NBA when he clearly isn't ready. On the other side of the same coin, Shilo Sanders has been getting exposed at practices leading up to the East-West Shrine Bowl. Are LeBron and Deion really putting their children in the best positions to be successful, or are they selfishly putting the cart before the horse? In other news, Jason is shocked to see that headlining ESPN.com are mostly WNBA off-season trades, specifically Brittney Griner signing with Atlanta on a one-year deal. How is the WNBA off-season a bigger headline than the Super Bowl or the NBA season? Steve and Jason also cover the Jimmy Butler trade rumors, Lamar Jackson vs. Jalen Hurts, the Chiefs dynasty, Deion never being a real candidate for the Cowboys, and who will the Steelers go with at QB next season? Shemeka Michelle also joins the show to discuss the Lyft lawsuit involving one oversized woman and a small car, followed by a certain Illinois mayor ending a board meeting in an all-out brawl. Wrapping up “Fearless” is a little Tennessee Harmony, as Anthony Walker and Kevin Donahue discuss Virgil Walker's new book that debunks climate alarmism.
