Sgt. Daniel Lawlor sat in the hallway outside Lindsay Clancy's hospital room while a psychologist spoke with her behind a closed door. He did not hear what was said. He later learned Clancy called her husband from the psychologist's phone and told him she had experienced voices the night her children died.The Commonwealth alleges Clancy murdered Cora, Dawson, and Callan at the family's Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. She has acknowledged killing them. Her defense asserts she was in a psychotic state driven by postpartum illness. The prosecution argues she acted with rational intent.On Day 12 of the trial, Reddington asked Lawlor whether investigators theorized the psychologist encouraged the call. The judge cleared the courtroom and questioned Lawlor without jurors present. Lawlor confirmed the speculation originated with lead detective McKelligan, not with the DA's office.Once jurors returned, Lawlor confirmed the theory had no evidence behind it. Buckingham established that Lawlor never discussed the matter with prosecutors and that investigative theories evolve.That afternoon, two medical examiners presented findings on the children's injuries. ‘The populists, nationalists, stupid nationalists, they are in love with their own countries', declared Jean-Claude Juncker, the former president of the European Commission, in May 2019. This familiar retort of a leading figure in the globalised elite exemplifies the recent fashion for regarding any manifestation of national pride with contempt. But what was intended as a snide insult about love of country then, now seems to have been embraced with pride by millions throughout the West. Whether it's the seeming unstoppable rise of national populist parties throughout Europe or the popular MAGA support for Donald Trump's pursuit of national interest, it seems that unapologetic nationalism is in the ascendant. In Britain, one very visual grassroots campaign, Operation Raise the Colours, illustrates this shift. Local people have been inspired to hang thousands of Saint George's Cross and Union flags on lampposts all over the country. And as quickly as local councils rip them down, flags are defiantly raised again, a symbolic gesture of an unashamed nationalist pride. This is a momentous shift in the West because, until recently, many felt inhibited about voicing their patriotic sentiments in the wake of an implicit but dogged, top-down cultural crusade against nationalism. Its negative associations with national rivalries, war and fascism continue to resonate.  Many commentators are perhaps understandably queasy. Is this an emboldened demonstration of xenophobia and bigotry? However, others point out that the growth of supranational institutions, as a counter to these alleged negatives, has undermined the legitimacy of the nation-state per se. This has led to official scepticism of borders, an embrace of mass migration and an associated disregard for the specific privileges of national citizenship. Meanwhile, the gradual detachment of the governing elites from the institutions of the nation has contributed to their alienation from their own nation's culture and popular sentiment. In many places, this has included increasing institutional hostility to the country's historic legacy, presented as a national story of shame, slavery, colonialism, oppression. But perhaps the governing classes' loss of ability to inspire loyalty and pride in the nation has fomented a backlash. Now a people's rebellion seems determined to take back control of the national narrative. Meanwhile, the ideology of globalisation is rapidly unravelling. Postwar international legal agreements and institutions, such as the European Convention on Human Rights, are now exposed as barriers to pursuing national interest in global affairs. Is the national sovereignty now emerging a key to the conduct of global affairs once more? At a time when many feel an increasing sense of isolation, of being disconnected from any larger shared project, is a return to national identity an inevitable, even welcome trend? Or does it reflect an absence of alternatives, a feeling that ordinary people have little else to hold on to? Does nationalism still retain its worrying, discredited associations with everything from racism to warmongering? Or is nationalism a return to our democratic roots, a force capable of forging national solidarity that can overcome the divisive fragmentation of demographic, cultural, ethnic, identitarian and political changes that have left citizens feeling like strangers in their own land? Can political elites learn to love their country again, and allow national interest to guide policies in the best interest of their nation state? She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, and has pleaded not guilty. Uma das medidas passa, precisamente, pela construção de mais habitação social. Sim. Habitação para as famílias, para os jovens e medidas de apoio que respondam ao elevado custo de vida. Também coloca entre as prioridades o combate ao fenómeno dos sem-abrigo, que se agravou nos últimos anos. Desde o Brexit, o Reino Unido teve vários primeiros-ministros e nenhum conseguiu recuperar plenamente a estabilidade política e económica. Burnham procura apresentar uma resposta integrada para esses problemas. Andy Burnham falou igualmente da criação de uma nova economia, com maior intervenção do Estado nos serviços essenciais. A que serviços se refere? Refere-se sobretudo aos serviços sociais. Para revitalizar a economia é necessário reforçar a ligação entre o Estado e a população. Isso exige investimento, apoio às pequenas empresas e aos empreendedores, para que possam contribuir para uma economia mais dinâmica. Falou também em reindustrializar o Reino Unido… Sim. Acredita que, fortalecendo as regiões mais frágeis, será possível criar um crescimento mais equilibrado. Foi esse modelo que procurou implementar em Manchester e considera que poderá ser replicado à escala nacional. Já é conhecida a composição do novo Governo. Que leitura faz desta equipa? Parece-me uma composição equilibrada. O Partido Trabalhista precisa de reunir pessoas experientes e transmitir estabilidade. Se falhar neste momento, dará espaço ao regresso dos conservadores. Por isso, esta é uma equipa pensada para recuperar a confiança dos eleitores. Há também sinais importantes em áreas como a sustentabilidade e a igualdade de género, que reflectem uma visão moderna da governação. John Riley substitui Rachel Reeves nas Finanças, numa altura em que o Reino Unido enfrenta baixo crescimento económico e uma elevada dívida pública. Que perfil tem o novo ministro? É uma pessoa da confiança de Andy Burnham. Acredito que poderá contribuir para concretizar a estratégia económica do primeiro-ministro. Tem capacidade técnica e poderá trabalhar em estreita articulação com Burnham para impulsionar as reformas económicas que o Governo pretende implementar. In a bizarre 1623 incident, Charles and Buckingham traveled in disguise to Madrid to secure a marriage with the Spanish Infanta, hoping to gain wealth and influence. The mission was a humiliating failure, leading to a shift toward war with Spain. James I ended his reign ill and disillusioned as his peaceful foreign policy collapsed. Upon his death in 1625, the 24-year-old Charles I inherited a massive debt of one million pounds, forcing an immediate and fractious confrontation with Parliament. (2)22642

Conflict intensifies between Charles I and Parliament, led by legal giant Edward Coke, who championed the Petition of Right to limit monarchical power. The segment discusses the assassination of the unpopular Buckingham by John Felton, a disgruntled soldier inspired by parliamentary grievances. To fund his reign without Parliament, Charles utilized "forced loans" and imprisoned those who refused to pay, sparking debates over habeas corpus and common law. In 1629, Charles dismissed Parliament entirely, beginning a decade of "Personal Rule" while continuing to collect controversial taxes like tonnage and poundage. (3)

Who ever heard of a state-based agency that is older than the state itself?  The Texas General Land Office was established in 1836 by the Congress of the Republic of Texas, the sovereign country that became the State of Texas ten years later, in 1846. When that transition happened, Texas retained control of all of its public lands.  That made the General Land Office's role even more important, and it remains to this day as custodian of things like mineral rights, surveying and maps, disaster relief, immigration enforcement, and a whole host of other missions. Dr. Dawn Buckingham is the elected Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, and has held that office since 2023. There's a suggestion Donald Trump's out of character treatment of new AI models shows how great the security threat is. Five Eyes agencies have issued a warning for business and government leaders that Artificial Intelligence could overwhelm defences within months, not years. The rare call to action comes after the Trump administration ordered AI giant Anthropic to suspend use of its most advanced models by foreign nationals. University of Buckingham Emeritus Professor Anthony Glees told Mike Hosking normally the President is very keen to export US tech. He says he's not doing it this time because this AI could bring all kinds of institutions close to collapse. Glees told Hosking software is being developed to find any defence vulnerabilities, and says once breached, rogue actors can wreak havoc on infrastructure, business and health services. That's right the beekeeper, John Chapple, who's been the Queen's beekeeper for 15 years and takes care of up to a million bees, personally went to each hive in both Buckingham palace and Clarence house,  to let them know that the queen was dead. Interviewed for the daily mail he said ‘You knock on each hive and say, ‘The mistress is dead, but don't you go. Your master will be a good master to you.' He then said a little prayer and put a black ribbon on each hive. A Bizarre Diplomatic Failure and the Debt of Charles I Guest Author: Jonathan Healey Healey recounts the surreal 1623 journey of Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham to Madrid, where they donned false beards in a failed attempt to secure a Spanish marriage. This "picker" adventure ended in humiliation, pushing an aging, ill James I toward a costly continental war. Upon James's death in 1625, the twenty-four-year-old Charles I inherited the throne along with a staggering one-million-pound debt. This immediate financial crisis forced Charles to turn to a fractious Parliament, setting the stage for decades of constitutional conflict regarding royal authority and the rights of the governed. The Personal Rule and the Legal Challenge of Ship Money Guest Author: Jonathan Healey Charles I's early reign was marked by intense struggle with Parliament over taxes and religion, leading to the 1628 Petition of Right. Following the assassination of his favorite, the Duke of Buckingham, Charles dismissed Parliament in 1629 to begin eleven years of "personal rule". To fund the state, he employed controversial methods like "ship money," extending a maritime defense tax to inland counties. This sparked a landmark legal battle where lawyers like Oliver St John argued against taxation without representation, a principle that would later resonate deeply with the American founders who eventually used these same arguments. “You can't abandon the concept of normality, or societies will just completely fall apart,” said developmental psychologist and social science scholar J.D. Haltigan.There has been a tremendous push in mental health to destigmatize mental illness, he said, and people are encouraged to regard themselves as “some sort of heroic person for having [mental] disorders.”This is true especially for mood disorders like depression and anxiety. People nowadays increasingly define themselves through mood disorders—especially women, who often are more prone than men to depression and internalization of anxiety, he said.This apparent valorization of mental illness is closely linked to a growing feminization of society, Haltigan said. Males, he told me, “tend to systemize more,” while women “tend to be more empathetic.”But in recent decades, that empathy has been weaponized, he argued: “We've come to basically hijack the feminine ethic of care, the feminine impulse to be empathetic.”He said this may explain why anti-ICE protests tend to skew disproportionately towards females.At the same time, he said, masculinity and the enforcement of laws and standards became demonized in society.Haltigan's departure from the University of Toronto in 2023 coincided with his growing concerns about what he described as increasing ideological pressures in academic research and restrictions on what researchers could say about mental health and early child development.In our wide-ranging interview, we discuss these shifts in society, their impacts, and the role of social media in fueling these changes.Now, Haltigan is an honorary research fellow at the Centre for Heterodox Social Science at the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.
