Jim talks with Lisa Buckingham—a veteran HR leader at Vialto Partners, US Soccer, Lincoln Financial, and Thomson—about how the LLM era is reshaping hiring and job architecture, and how companies and workers can roll with the changes. They discuss: Jim and Lisa's shared history in natural language processing labs thirty years ago—and the contrast with today, where "everybody can be an AI expert" The kind of people to hire in the age of LLMs: intellectual curiosity, learning agility, and willingness to work differently "Trust the machine, but always validate"—the principle of embracing AI while maintaining human oversight COVID as an accelerant of technology adoption Workforce adoption realities at Vialto—evangelists, pessimists, and the change management challenge Shark Tank-style internal AI contests as a model for engaging employees with new tools Why the "future of work" is dead Programmers and product managers merging roles; job architectures flattening into skills-based, fluid inventories AI's historical weight—"as pivotal as electricity"—and the limits of anyone's ability to predict machine learning's trajectory Jim's "what, when" framework and the twin failure modes of AI projects "Test and learn" as the right posture toward AI transformation, and whose responsibility "what, when" actually is—CEO, CTO, and sales as a coalition The productivity multiplier for programmers—7–10x gains—and Jim's argument that demand for software could actually increase total programmer headcount Why sales jobs are probably not highly "AI-able" anytime soon, and what salespeople need to communicate to retain relevance Lisa's personal use of Claude and Copilot 365 The leveling effect of AI for non-STEM people Jim's argument (since November 2022) that top liberal arts graduates are the most natural prompt engineers Lisa's 1999 Georgetown thesis—"Are liberal arts majors the answer to the .com era worker shortage?"—and its uncanny parallel to the 2026 humanities debate The education paradox: how Lisa's son was banned from using AI in class but required to be an AI expert for his summer internship The calculator analogy, and whether AI in education follows the same arc Resistance to the AI voice in writing Jim's technique for capturing stylistic tendencies with AI The rising costs of frictional bureaucracy and the unreasonable effectiveness of small teams What Lisa saw on a recent safari about what AI can't replace, and the choice between evolving and being overtaken Learning agility as the core HR question—how to handle employees who cannot or will not embrace AI The shifting meaning of "owning your work" … and much more. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniú an ceathrú lá is fiche de mhi Bealtaine, Is mise Gwyneth Nic Aidicín Ni LoinsighThascar Iosrael an Cabhlachán Domhanda Sumud in uiscí idirnáisiúnta arís i rith na seachtaine. Bhí 50 bád agus níos mó ná 400 gníomhaí páirteach sa chabhlachán, ag déanamh iarracht nua cúnamh a thabhairt go Gaza tar éis tascartha ó Israel ar an misean roimhe seo. Bhí ar a laghad dháréag saoránach Éireannach páirteach sa chabhlacán, an Dochtúir Margaret Connolly, deirfiúir le hUachtarán na hÉireann Catherine Connolly san áireamh. Cuireadh físeán ar líne a thaispeáin na coinníollacha uafásacha ina bhfuil na gníomhaí á gcoimeád. San fhíseán, tá Aire Slándálal Náisiúnta Iosrael, Itamar Ben-Gvir, le feiceáil, agus é ag déanamh trasnáil agus magadh orthu, rud a tharraing cáineadh ó oifigigh agus cinn stáit timpeall an domhain. Luaigh ionadaí ón gcabhlachán go bhfuil na coinníollacha céanna, agus níos measa fiú, á bhfulaingt ag na Pailistínigh agus gur chóir rialtais an domhain bearta níos láidre a thógáil i gcoinne Iosrael.Thug an tUachtarán Catherine Connolly an chéad chuairt oifigiúil ar an Ríocht Aontaithe i ról an Uachtaráin i rith na seachtaine. Thosaigh sí le cuairt ar an Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, áit ar bhuail sí le polaiteoirí agus ionadaithe cultúir agus ealaíne de chuid na hÉireann i Londain, baill de Chonradh na Gaeilge i Londain san áireamh. Labhair sí faoin imirce stairiúil ó Éirinn go Sasana, agus an tionchar leathan ag daoine Éireannacha ar thionscal agus ar chultúr na Breataine. Luaigh sí cúiseanna eacnamaíocha agus an géarchéim tithíochta mar phríomhchúis leis an ardú is déanaí ar an imirce idir an dá thír le blianta beaga anuas. Ag céilliúradh cultúr Gaelach, dúirt sí freisin gur chóir d'Éireannaigh a bheith bródúil as cultúir eile a chuimsiú agus gan iad a fheiceáil mar bhagairt. Thug sí cuairt ar Phálas Buckingham ina dhiaidh sin agus thug sí cuireadh don Rí Séarlas cuairt a thabhairt ar Éirinn an bhliain seo chugainn. Lean an turas le stop ag Seó na mBláthanna in Chelsea agus cuairt ar an London Irish Centre i gCeamdain. Ansin, thaistil sí go Leeds le haghaidh cuairt ar Ollscoil Leeds agus an Leeds Irish Centre chun críoch a chur leis an turas.Bhuaigh Arsenal Príomhshraith Shasana Dé Máirt, den chéad uair ó bhí 2004 ann. Tháinig an bua nuair a chríochnaigh cluiche idir Manchester City agus Bournemouth ar comhscór. Bhí Manchester city sa dara háit sa tsraith ó thaobh pointí de agus bhí orthu bua a bhaint amach sa chluiche sin le bheith ábalta an ceann is fearr a fháil ar Arsenal sa bhabhta deireanach den tsraith. Níor bhain agus bhuaigh Arsenal an tsraith gan an cluiche deireanach a imirt. Bhí céilliúradh ar siúl trasna Londan ar an oíche, sa Tuaisceart go háirithe, áit dúchais na Gunners. Is í an Phríomhshraith an duais is airde i sacar Sasanach agus seo an ceathrú uair déag go bhfuil sé buaite ag Arsenal riamh. Beidh Arsenal ag iarraidh a rath a leanúint le bua i Sraith na Seaimpíní ag deireadh na míosa, den chéad uair i stair an chlub. Tarlóidh cluiche ceannais Shraith na Seaimpíní i gcoinne Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest ar an tríochadú lá de Mhí na Bealtaine.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. A visually stunning, definitive tribute to rock's most enigmatic, enduring, and stylish icon, Stevie Nicks, written by New York Times bestselling music journalist Annie Zaleski. This beautifully illustrated book goes beyond the glitter and shawls to explore the raw artistry, resilience, and magic that define Stevie Nicks's five-decade career. From singing "Are You Mine" with her grandfather in Phoenix to becoming the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, Stevie's story is as sweeping and bold as her stage presence. Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs covers it all: her early musical roots, folk and country influences, first guitar at sixteen, and fateful harmony with Lindsey Buckingham on "California Dreamin'"-a moment that launched one of rock's most complicated partnerships. This is not just a music biography. It's a deep dive into Stevie's powerful songwriting and mythmaking. The book analyzes iconic tracks like "Rhiannon," inspired by Welsh mythology, "Landslide," written during a pivotal moment in her relationship with Buckingham, and "Stand Back," created with an uncredited synth assist from Prince. It covers breakout Fleetwood Mac hits like "Dreams" and "Gold Dust Woman," along with cult classics from the Buckingham Nicks era and her solo work, like "Edge of Seventeen." The book also offers surprising insights into her personal life: her friendships, her struggle with addiction, her political engagement, and advocacy work. Nick's unmatched fashion legacy shines through these pages, too. A dedicated section explores her famous shawls and capes, her di Fabrizio boots, the mystical Rumours look, and her real-life wardrobe inspirations. Beyond the music and style, Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs dives into the artist's cultural impact, like her pop mentorship of artists Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and more.Featuring rare photos, extensive track breakdowns, and revealing quotes, Stevie Nicks in 50 Songs is not just a celebration of a career. It's a celebration of a woman who twirled through heartbreak and fame and emerged bolder than ever.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Two young princes vanished inside the Tower of London, and history has never agreed on what happened next. In 1483, Edward V and his younger brother Richard, Duke of York, disappeared from public view after their uncle seized the throne as King Richard III. Were they murdered? If so, who was responsible? For centuries, suspicion has fallen on Richard III, but was the case really that simple? In this video, I explore: • the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower • Richard III and the evidence against him • the role of Buckingham, Henry VII, and Margaret Beaufort • medieval politics and rival claimants • Thomas More and the James Tyrell confession story • the mystery of Perkin Warbeck and survival theories • the bones discovered in the Tower of London • what contemporary sources actually tell us Was this a royal murder, a political conspiracy, or one of history's greatest misunderstandings? Let me know your theory in the comments. #PrincesInTheTower #RichardIII #WarsOfTheRoses

The rock group Fleetwood Mac is one of the most well-known and beloved in music history, but it certainly wasn't that way when they started in 1967. Before finding international success with the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks in 1975, they had numerous personnel changes at the guitarist position. In fact, before Lindsey, they changed guitarists five times in seven years, as they ran the gamut from hardcore British blues to contemporary rock to breezy L.A. soft pop. In his latest article for the Strange Brew, Scott G. Shea tells the story of this magnificent band's development through its guitarists. He describes how they arrived at the band, what they contributed, and why they eventually broke down. If you're interested in discussing the story of Fleetwood Mac, I hope you'll consider inviting Scott G. Shea, a leading music historian and the author of the best-selling book “All the Leaves Are Brown: How the Mamas & the Papas Came Together and Broke Apart,” to your program. Scott can discuss what went wrong with the five guitarists who preceded Lindsey Buckingham and why Buckingham was able to make it work, at least for a little while.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Companies that spend their energy on incremental improvements to products, services, and even employee experience might just be spinning their wheels. Author Marcus Buckingham argues that data show that the only way to truly make an impact on performance is to make sure customers don't just like - but love - whatever you are selling them. He shares why extreme positive experiences are so important, companies that are getting it right, and how even the most basic products can inspire love and connection--with the right strategy. Buckingham is author of the HBR article "What Companies Can Learn from Their Biggest Fans" and the book Design Love In: How to Unleash the Most Powerful Force in Business.

In Design Love In: How to Unleash the Most Powerful Force in Business, Marcus Buckingham argues that love—not engagement, satisfaction, or motivation—is the only feeling that reliably changes the behavior of employees and customers, and that it can be deliberately designed into business.Buckingham is one of the world's foremost researchers on human performance. He is a former senior vice president at Gallup turned New York Times–best-selling author, having written First, Break All the Rules. In his new book, he draws on decades of research to show that the relationship between experiences and outcomes is not linear—only experiences so positive that people describe them as “love” actually drive loyalty, productivity, and advocacy. In his conversation with Adam Job, senior director at the BCG Henderson Institute, he discusses why love is categorically different from engagement, the five feelings that make up a loving experience, three disciplines leaders can use to design love into their organizations, and why common practices like outsourcing and large spans of control are fundamentally unloving.Key topics discussed: 01:16 | Why love is categorically different from engagement or satisfaction04:43 | The nonlinear relationship between experiences and outcomes08:24 | How experiences drive behaviors that drive outcomes12:34 | Designing love in: the five feelings and three disciplines16:00 | Can love be designed into products, not just experiences?19:13 | The three disciplines: walk the stage, equip the people, sequence the scenes27:39 | Spans of control and the one-to-12 rule30:17 | The limits of artificial experience–makingAdditional inspirations from Marcus Buckingham:First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently (Gallup Press, 2016)

Tonight's guest William Blesch, calling in from Israel, shares a childhood encounter from rural Virginia in the late 1980s that left a lasting impact on how he views reality. What began as a simple sighting of a silent black triangular craft would go on to shape a lifetime of research into UFOs, ancient texts, and non-human intelligence. We also touch on his book, In the Shadow of Goliath, where he explores the overlap between religious accounts and modern UFO encounters, questioning whether these experiences may be connected through a deeper, shared pattern.More information on this episode on the podcast website:https://ufochroniclespodcast.com/2026-2/William Bleschhttps://www.williamblesch.comOne Life | One Story (Promo)A podcast about real people's lives, each episode centers on a single person and a defining experience,Listen on all podcast apps: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5EE7HbNItkQQbJdtZCHt88Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one-life-one-story/id1861678226Spreaker:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/one-life-one-story--6823002If you enjoy this podcast, please support the show with a virtual coffee:https://ko-fi.com/ufochroniclespodcastFollow and Subscribe on X to get ad-free episodesX: https://x.com/UFOchronpodcast/Want to share your encounter on the show?Email: UFOChronicles@gmail.comOr Fill out Guest Form:https://forms.gle/uGQ8PTVRkcjy4nxS7Podcast Merchandise:https://www.teepublic.com/user/ufo-chronicles-podcastHelp Support UFO CHRONICLES by becoming a Patron:https://patreon.com/UFOChroniclespodcastAll Links for Podcast:https://linktr.ee/UFOChroniclesPodcastThank you for listening!Like share and subscribe it really helps me when people share the show on social media, it means we can reach more people and more witnesses and without your amazing support, it wouldn't be possible.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/ufo-chronicles-podcast--3395068/support.

2. A Bizarre Diplomatic Failure and the Debt of Charles I Guest Author: Jonathan Healey Healey recounts the surreal 1623 journey of Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham to Madrid, where they donned false beards in a failed attempt to secure a Spanish marriage. This "picker" adventure ended in humiliation, pushing an aging, ill James I toward a costly continental war. Upon James's death in 1625, the twenty-four-year-old Charles I inherited the throne along with a staggering one-million-pound debt. This immediate financial crisis forced Charles to turn to a fractious Parliament, setting the stage for decades of constitutional conflict regarding royal authority and the rights of the governed. 3. The Personal Rule and the Legal Challenge of Ship Money Guest Author: Jonathan Healey Charles I's early reign was marked by intense struggle with Parliament over taxes and religion, leading to the 1628 Petition of Right. Following the assassination of his favorite, the Duke of Buckingham, Charles dismissed Parliament in 1629 to begin eleven years of "personal rule". To fund the state, he employed controversial methods like "ship money," extending a maritime defense tax to inland counties. This sparked a landmark legal battle where lawyers like Oliver St John argued against taxation without representation, a principle that would later resonate deeply with the American founders who eventually used these same arguments. Universities, long celebrated as sanctuaries of free thought and intellectual rigour, have for centuries been regarded as the best way to educate and conduct research. But increasingly, this assumption is being questioned. A recent study found that two-thirds of academics feel their freedom to teach and study is being curtailed. In 2022 alone, over 1,000 instances of content warnings or text removals were documented across UK universities. While some academics now criticise PhD programmes as a way to extract "fees and cheap labour" from students, reports suggest that most academic papers are read by an average of just ten people. More than half of respondents now say that going to university is not worth it. And in the US, graduate student debt averages over $71,000, while similar information is often freely available online.Should we call time on the age of the university and find new, innovative ways to educate people? Should we leave research and innovation to the business sector and free-market forces? Or are universities still vital to our education and culture and can a radical overhaul restore them to their original purpose?Yaron Brook is a political scientist, and chairman of the Ayn Rand Institute. You don't have to be young and beautiful to get ahead in Stuart England but it really doesn't hurt. The is the story of 'gorgeous George' - that is to say George Villiers (later Duke of Buckingham) who in his early 20's became the favourite of James I of England (VI of Scotland). Despite his willingness to promote based on good looks, James I comes out of this rather well. He may have believed in witches (how else to explain what happened to his bride??) but he also believed in peace - greatly to the benefit of his subjects.Of course his subjects weren't remotely grateful and were delighted when Charles I took over and (with Buckingham) started wars with Spain and France. As with so many wars the enthusiasm faded fast when it turned out these things cost money. And the Duke of Buckingham was in the firing line as members of the House of Commons were overcome with rage and the mob turned against him.All sorts of extraordinary things in this episode - storm raising witches, wizards, false beards, mad, romantic journeys across Europe in search of a bride and (my personal favourite) the House of Commons grinding to a halt as one member after another bursts into tears. Lucy Hughes-Hallet is a brilliant guest. The story in her book The Scapegoat is (as she rightly says) much better than any fiction.Seriously - get the book. We didn't cover a tenth of it. By turns hilarious and tragic it is a window into a world hovering between the medieval and the modern.

“You can't abandon the concept of normality, or societies will just completely fall apart,” said developmental psychologist and social science scholar J.D. Haltigan. There has been a tremendous push in mental health to destigmatize mental illness, he said, and people are encouraged to regard themselves as “some sort of heroic person for having [mental] disorders.”This is true especially for mood disorders like depression and anxiety. People nowadays increasingly define themselves through mood disorders—especially women, who often are more prone than men to depression and internalization of anxiety, he said. This apparent valorization of mental illness is closely linked to a growing feminization of society, Haltigan said. Males, he told me, “tend to systemize more,” while women “tend to be more empathetic.”But in recent decades, that empathy has been weaponized, he argued: “We've come to basically hijack the feminine ethic of care, the feminine impulse to be empathetic.”He said this may explain why anti-ICE protests tend to skew disproportionately towards females. At the same time, he said, masculinity and the enforcement of laws and standards became demonized in society.Haltigan's departure from the University of Toronto in 2023 coincided with his growing concerns about what he described as increasing ideological pressures in academic research and restrictions on what researchers could say about mental health and early child development. In our wide-ranging interview, we discuss these shifts in society, their impacts, and the role of social media in fueling these changes. Now, Haltigan is an honorary research fellow at the Centre for Heterodox Social Science at the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Eric Kaufmann live from London. Kaufmann explains his racial classification as: “Someone who is a quarter Latino and a quarter Chinese but is considered White by most people.” Most is not all. A professor of Politics at the University of Buckingham, Kaufmann has written a number of books that seem to address the System of White Supremacy. Our recent guest Dr. Paul Thomas told us about the 2018 publication, Whiteshift: Immigration, Populism and the Future of White Majorities. This book examines the changes we're currently witnessing with changing demographics and fears of White Genetic Annihilation. Kaufmann thinks there will be a new influx of so called “mixed” people who will be accepted as White - like himself. Kaufmann details White frustration with all this change and increased color. He says people classified as White should be allowed to be proud of their culture and traditions just like non-white people. This, like most of the book, ignores that violence and lying are the sum total of White Culture. Championing White Culture would mean celebrating the abuse and murder of non-white people. Ironically, Kaufmann says this is what will be required of the so called “mixed” people who hope to join the White Race. Kaufmann sounds identical to Racists in one respects, they all insist we've made a tremendous amount of "progress" towards Producing Justice.

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Dorothea N Buckingham, author of the book Code Name Rascal. Dorothea “Dee” Buckingham is a seasoned author, retired librarian, and dedicated historian who has called Hawaiʻi home for over 30 years. Her profound interest in the daily lives of women during World War II in Hawaiʻi has been the cornerstone of her literary work. Dee's commitment to uncovering and narrating these often-overlooked stories has established her as a respected voice in historical fiction.   Her notable publications include My Name is Loa, a historical novel set on Molokaʻi, and Who Murdered Jane Stanford?: An Answer Imagined, which delves into the mysterious death of Stanford University's co-founder in 1905 Hawaiʻi. Additionally, she co-authored World War II Hawaiʻi with her husband, retired Lieutenant Colonel John Buckingham, offering a pictorial history that captures the transformative impact of the war on the islands.   Dee's passion for storytelling extends beyond writing; she is an Author Accelerator certified book coach, providing guidance to aspiring writers. Her engaging talks and workshops have been featured on west coast radio and television in Hawaiʻi, and she has presented to diverse audiences, sharing her insights on writing and historical research.   Her latest work, Code Name Rascal, continues her mission to illuminate the vital roles women played during wartime, weaving a narrative that is both historically rich and emotionally resonant.   Dee enjoys connecting with readers and is available to meet with book clubs and reading groups, both in person and via Zoom, to discuss her work and share insights into her writing process.   In my book review, I stated Code Name Rascal is a wonderful historical fiction. This story takes place in Hawaii immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor. We quickly meet four women, all very different from one another, who join a classified radar operation known as WARD, with the code name Rascal.   One of the things I loved best about this story is that I was completely unaware of WARD or even the issues in Hawaii after the initial bombing. I'm not sure where I was during school, but there is a lot more to what happened than I realized! Code Name Rascal helped fill in so many of the blanks.   I also really loved Dorothea's characters. CJ is a strong, newly-married journalist. Ruth is a quiet Navy officer wife. Jane is a pilot going through divorce. And Eve is a Honolulu socialite. Imagine all these women thrust into tiny quarters, working grueling hours, keeping war secrets, and still trying to figure out their own lives. It's like a historical soap opera, full of determination, grief, danger, and disappearing dreams - and it's one you won't want to miss!   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Dorothea N Buckingham Website: https://dorotheabuckingham.com/ Substack: https://dorotheanbuckingham.substack.com/   Purchase Code Name Rascal on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/3LrHJMU Ebook: https://amzn.to/49sTwUx   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? Open inquiry depends on the ability to ask uncomfortable questions and follow evidence wherever it leads. Eric Kaufmann argues that this norm is now under strain. Drawing on history, survey data, and political theory, Kaufmann outlines how certain identity categories came to be treated as morally sacred—and how that shift has reshaped debates about equality, free speech, and academic inquiry. The conversation examines the long roots of today's culture conflicts, the move from equal opportunity to equal outcomes, and why disagreement is increasingly interpreted as moral transgression rather than intellectual difference. At stake is what happens to liberal societies when some questions can no longer be asked, nd whether open inquiry can still be defended without abandoning concern for fairness and dignity Eric Kaufmann is a professor of politics and Director of the Centre for Heterodox Social Science at the University of Buckingham. He has written for The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Times of London, Newsweek, National Review, New Statesman, Financial Times, and other outlets. His new book is The Third Awokening.

PREVIEW — Clare Jackson — Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham's Secret Spanish Bride Mission. Jacksondetails an "extraordinary" historical episode wherein Prince Charles and the Duke of Buckingham, operating under the transparent disguises of "Jack" and "Tom Smith," clandestinely traveled to Spain to negotiate a Catholic marriage alliance and secure a bride for the English royal succession, thereby resolving sectarian religious conflicts between Protestant England and Catholic Spain. Jackson documents that this dramatic act defied fundamental diplomatic etiquette and negotiation protocols, shocking Spanish royal authorities and effectively imprisoning the English princes in Madrid for approximately six months while political fallout ensued, representing a rare instance of direct royal intervention in diplomatic negotiations transcending conventional ambassadorial channels.
