On this show:We reflected on how collective efforts can lead to enriched queer community within regional areas.Noted that the previous day had been International Day of Lesbian Visibility; and having unintentionally included some (probably also unintentional) exclusive language taken from a prime explanatory website, took some time to reflect on the intersectional gender nature of being a lesbian.Madison, Atlas and our guest Lunar shared their lived experiences of being queer folk with disability, living in a queerphobic and ableist society. Reflections includedhow being queer and disabled can be conjoined, and then judged, by ableist people.the hazards of queer disable persons internalising the judgements of others.how ableist behaviour is generally considered unacceptable, but yet it persists.visable and invisable disability, and how attitudes toward them can differ. How pride in oneself as a queer person with lived experience in disability actually adds to the inherent value we already have, as people who exist in the world.Lunar shared some of her poetry; The Battle Within, and Gaze in the Mirror. We ruminated a little on the expense of coffee under late stage capitalism (and why some spoons have holes in them).Community Links:TGD Bookclub, 10 May, 1 - 2:30pm, Free Event, Thorne Harbour Health Building 200 Hoddle St, Abbottsford; and online.Frooty Loops Meetup, 6 - 9pm, Every Second Sunday, Free Event, Little Foot Bar, 223 Barkly St, Footscray.Identity Test, A Trans Existential Drama and Caberet, at Butterfly Club, 5 Carson Place, Melbourne CBD. 7pm, 28th April to 3rd May; Tickets $39 standard, $35 concession.Queer Multicultural Carnival, 7th June, 10am - 6pm.

The circus has always been a symbol of escape, from children being amazed, amused - and often bemused - by their first experience of a live show, to disgruntled rebels running away to join the circus. Which is what 16-year-old Xanthe Naylor did - she ran off to join Dunedin's annual Circulation Festival. Ten years later, she's the Festival Director, and she's bringing a new show to Otepoti. It's a unique blend of circus and cabaret called Star Dust. Lynn Freeman first asked Xanthe about her first steps into the circus arena. Dunedin's annual Circulation Festival runs in October. Shabadoo, Boogaloo Shrimp and a cast of break dancers team-up with Golan and Globus, pump out a movie in a handful of months and leave us with one of the most important and culturally infamous bad movies of all time. Hope you like break-dancing! Let's face it - this movie stinks and rules. There's so little happening but no one notices because it's masked by CONSTANT break dancing. It's wall-to-wall. There might be more more dance/musical numbers in this than Caberet and Chicago and Grease combined. Now that might scare off the casual bad-movie goer who is here for movies staring shirtless men with guns, but don't be afraid - this thing is electric dog-poo on fire. It's really something of a special deal when a movie crams this much non-diegetic, metaphorical story-telling using dance as the device and still manages to contain as much mind-boggling nonsense within those dance sequences. For most of us, we just check out during dance numbers as they are just a showcasing of people's abilities to move their butt around, but this is not that. There's a constant tone of bonkers throughout these numbers and must be watched; especially the surrounding extras. The acting is hilarious, with two non-leads stealing every scene. The actors who played Lucia and Rhonda were both so bad that they had to be over-dubbed and the dub is absolutely laughable. Try not to fall out of your chair when Lucia helps Turbo bust out of the hospital. It's an absolute spectacle of ineptitude, all while still being the most competent film Golan and Globus ever put together - and they did it in less than six months. Breakin 2': Electric Boogaloo is an absolute must do for its historical importance but beyond that - it's just a damn good time.

This episode was a lot of fun to do back in the say, mostly because it involved a ton of drinking which wasn't something we did a lot. It's funny, I had always thought that Kamren was the one who brought me all the drinks during this and not Jackie. I guess I'm not as bad of a person as I thought I was!  I'm also a little shocked that the stories stayed as tame as they did cause we told some pretty raunchy stories back on this show from 2009.  Here are the original show notes for you, cause I know you want them! The Music you hear: ~Floggy Molly: Drunken Lullabies from their Drunken Lullabies album. ~Sublime: 40oz to Freedom from their 40oz to Freedom album ~Brave Combo: Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie from their Polkasonic album. What was everyone drinking? John drank: -Long Island Ice tea -4 Mudslides -Vodka Sweet Tea Kaylie Drank: -Mohito -Corona Lite Antoine drank: Pink Wine called C'est La Vie!! Ryan drank: Some girly wine I forget the name of, then he left us for a Big Labowski party. Derrek drank: Caberet wine (or something) Ben: Scotch (he was only there for a little bit)   On the show tonight: John Kaylie Antoine Gagnon Jackie the Beast Ryan Hudson Derek Den Find us on Social: The Show https://twitter.com/y2clradio https://instagram.com/y2clradio https://www.facebook.com/y2clradio/ John http://twitter.com/y2cl http://instagram.com/y2cl http://facebook.com/johnhorsleyart Upcoming shows we will be at! Yes, citric acid is safe to use in containers you eat from. Here's an article from Livestrong Color catchers- are another great idea. I use these sometimes too! Citric acid works to set color in wool but does not work for cellulose fibers (cotton, e.g.). Star Wars!   Quote of the Week "I just want to highlight one perspective I’ve found very useful over the years: The value of goals is not in the future they describe, but the change in perception of reality they foster, in the present." -David Allen of Getting Things Done     Bonus audio from Riley, Garret and Millie at the end. Spoiler alert- it gets especially silly at the end. It may not make a lot of sense because I started recording part way through a conversation but the kids' laughter (especially Garret's) is especially infectious and I wanted to share!   ------   For website: Thank you for tuning in!   Contact Information: Ravelry: BostonJen & Down Cellar Studio Podcast Ravelry Group Twitter: Instagram & Periscope: BostonJen1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/downcellarstudio Sign up for my email newsletter to get the latest on everything happening in the Down Cellar Studio!

On Thursday December 22nd,2016 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon, will review the 2014 book by Tobias Churton "Aleister Crowley The Beast in Berlin". This is apparently an expansion and compilation of outcuts from the author's biography of Crowley and should perhaps be considered an appendix to that work. Unless you are an ardent Crowley afficianado it is a hard read. The book is primarily made up of excerpts from A.C.'s. diaries and his correspondence mostly during his 1930s Berlin sojurne as a struggling artist in the decadent twilight days of the Weimar Republic. Along with a running account of the Beast's metaphysical politics, sexual magick and artistic endevours, Churton manages to give us an in-depth look at the decadent sub-culture of the Weimar Berliners and an appreciation of Crowley's talents as an artist. So if you'd like to accompany the Beast to the Caberet. Tune in and enjoy the show.
