Send us a textOn this fun show, we have two terrific comics sharing material; from Seattle, Kermet Apio, and from Los Angeles Cathy Ladman. Both these entertainers were regulars at my comedy clubs back in the day, and both are still performing today. In fact Kermet did a great set last year for a fund raiser I produced a show for...very funny show; Listen, Laugh, & Share!Kermet Apio and Cathy Ladman, both seasoned stand-up comedians, offer unique perspectives on the art of comedy through their engaging storytelling and sharp observational humor. Kermet Apio's sets often delve into the absurdities of parenting, humorously recounting moments like threatening to "fart on [his daughter's] neck" during trivial arguments, ultimately finding joy and laughter amidst the chaos of raising a preteen. Meanwhile, Cathy Ladman draws from her vast experience to craft efficient and poignant stories, whether she's reminiscing about childhood incidents or sharing humorous tales from her extensive travels, including a memorable immigration mishap in Canada. Together, Apio and Ladman highlight the power of personal anecdotes and the importance of humor in navigating life's everyday challenges.(00:00:21) Family Dynamics and Marriage Comedy Sets(00:02:03) "Witty Reflections on Long-Term Relationships"(00:13:23) "Comedic Reflections on Parenting Preteen Daughters"(00:13:53) "The Absurdity of Parenting a Preteen"(00:18:19) Border Crossing Humor in Winnipeg, CanadaSupport the showStandup Comedy Podcast Network.co www.StandupComedyPodcastNetwork.comFree APP on all Apple & Android phones....check it out, podcast, jokes, blogs, and More! For short-form standup comedy sets, listen to: "Comedy Appeteasers" , available on all platforms.New YouTube site: https://www.youtube.com/@standupcomedyyourhostandmc/videosVideos of comics live on stage from back in the day. Please Write a Review: in-depth walk-through for leaving a review.Interested in Standup Comedy? The RevRep Podcast sits down with comedian Brandon Young! Brandon talks about his Dry Bar Comedy special, what it's like being the executive producer of comedy festivals, and which trading card the Reverend should just go ahead and burn in a fire. During controlled rowdiness there is a lot of confusion about vegetable, NWO vs WCW vs WWE talk, and a few very curious admissions. Brandon Young is a Christian comedian based out of San Diego, California who's been able to use a wide variety of topics ranging from strange observations to growing up in a small town with his weird family and why he despises people who dip French fries into milkshakes, to reach a vast array of people. His intelligently crafted material is a hit with all types of audiences. His Dry Bar Comedy special, Chicken Gone, was released in August 2021. He can also be heard on Pandora Radio and Spotify and seen on Comedy Time TV. Brandon's also been featured in festivals like the San Diego Comedy Festival, Paul Bunyan Comedy Festival, LaughFest, and Border City Comedy Festival. He's even worked with comedy legends Kevin Pollak, Cathy Ladman, Jimmy Brogan, Eddie Brill, and Dana Carvey. In May 2009, Brandon founded the Rock Comedy Ministry, arguably the first comedy ministry of its kind in the world, at the Rock Church in San Diego. Using a mixture of stand-up, sketch comedy, and improv, the Rock Comedy Ministry has been able to bring laughter to people who wouldn't otherwise receive it such as the homeless, elderly in convalescent homes, and cancer patients. Brandon specifically has performed for churches and other organizations and has been a part of fundraisers that have raised thousands of dollars for the Alzheimer's Association, global missionaries, victims of domestic violence, and victims of human trafficking among others. Originally from a small town in Michigan called Oscoda, Brandon is middle-aged, middle-classed, married to a woman way out of his league, has no kids, and owns a dog. Basically, his life is that of every leading man in every sitcom from the 1960's. He brings his Midwest charm and likability to a world that truly needs it. Fun show with two great friends; Sue Kolinsky and Cathy Ladman. They have done it all and it was such a pleasure to just talk about movies and how they affect our mental health. There is nothing better than laughing with friends after being in your pajamas for a year and a half! Sue mentions a specifically traumatic experience she had with “Dumbo” (totally understandable), and Cathy talks about going to the movies as a young kid with a friend and how they would come in the middle of movies, didn't care, just being in a movie theater was the thing. For me, the childhood place was the Bayside Moviehouse in the summer town where I grew up, Nantasket Beach; about 20 miles south of Boston. It was a real sanctuary and one summer I saw The Excorcist like 17 times. Which was followed by 17 years of therapy. Jennifer and I also answer listener questions; like “How do you deal with friends who tell you how to parent?” and we do an Imagination execrise to help rewire your brain to think about what you want to think about. This is building the hardware in the brain, something we are really not taught. And it's so much easier than what we do to ourselves. Often, the brain is doing it's job and trying to keep us safe and we think there's something wrong with us, and react to it. So in this show, we show you simple things you can practice to change the wiring that brings on the feelings of anxiety, anger, depression, stress and builds the neuropathways toward thinking that connects with what we want, rather than what we don't want. And Jennifer also talks about ways we can practice how we deal and heal, using movies. How we can practice responding rather than reacting to our own feelings, and that's a great time to do it easily. Often with mental health, the time to practice simple skills is when there s not a crisis. In my family, we have The Crasnick Cris Center, Museum of Old Emotions and Gift Shop. The time to do this stuff is not in the middle of craziness. It's easy for me to say, and seems like it's hard to do and that I don't have time. However, I do have plenty of time to feel like crap, I have all kinds of time for that. It takes a minute here or there. A conscious minute, and then I can go back to driving myself crazy. She also recalls her role in the documentary "The Aristocrats" and retells a great Bob Saget story from the film. Enjoy!!

“Our next comic is a comedienne, so please be nice…” You may have heard on the previous podcast that last week was a particularly crappy week for me. I needed some serious cheering up. So, I called in the big guns and reached out to one of the funniest people I know. As one of the country's top comedians, Cathy Ladman is a fearless, anxiety-venting performer who draws huge laughs from such taboo subjects as her battle with anorexia to the endless indignities of menopause. At the top of the comedy world for nearly 40 years, Cathy appeared nine times on The Tonight Show. Johnny Carson was such a fan that she was the only female comic to appear on the last two of Johnny’s Tonight Show Anniversary specials. She’s made numerous appearances on The Late Late Show, had her own HBO One Night Stand comedy special, and was awarded the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand Up Comic. A successful comedy writer for television, she’s also a versatile actor who has appeared in such acclaimed shows as Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, How To Get Away With Murder, Pretty Little Liars, and Modern Family to name a few. Cathy and I have a lot of fun talking about her early days in clubs, which comedy legends were big part of her nightly childhood bedtime routine, and then I give her some insider tips for turning her recent cancer treatment into a wealth of comedy material. I’m helpful that way. You can see Cathy Ladman live April 23 and 24 at the Alameda Comedy Club in Alameda, California. If you can’t make the live show, you can stream it any time you’d like at http://comediaplex.com/. Check out a terrific archive of her appearances here on YouTube and you should definitely follow her on Twitter @CathyLadman. I have a brand new book coming out this summer. To get a free sneak preview email me at info@sexedthemusical.com and I’ll send a free chapter your way! Sex Ed The Musical is available on iTunes, Stitcher, Podtail, IHeartRadio, Podbay, Spotify and more. Please share and follow Sex Ed The Musical wherever you enjoy podcasts. Also, if you’d do us a solid and leave us a 5-Star Review on iTunes, we’d ever so gratefully appreciate it. Be sure to check out my writing on Medium.com here! Hysterically funny, whip-smart(are whips smart?) and painfully self-aware, there's nothing that doesn't sparkle with the Cathy Ladman spin. Cathy tells all... at least most... her teenage romance with Jerry Seinfeld from Long Island to Israel and back again... demanding panel on The Tonight Show, facing off with Roseanne, and her struggle with anorexia, which has led to her most heart-wrenching, albeit hysterical work, yet. Cathy made 9 appearances on The Tonight Show, 5 on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, had her own HBO "One Night Stand" comedy special, and was awarded the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand Up Comic. Film credits include, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Aristocrats, White Oleander, What Planet Are You From? My Fellow Americans, and Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead. Had such a good time talking with Wendy. I think you'll really enjoy finding out about her life and beyond her brilliance as a comedian, is a very conscious person who gets very little sleep, which somehow has helped her perform.  Funny thing about this episode, as usual, crazy adventures in technophobia for me. We couldnt find a place for quiet, so we did the interview in her car in front of her house. Very good conversation, only half of it was lost, i hit a button.  So, we went back and did a chunk on skype, and would have done it under water, if i could have found a way to do so. Cathy Ladman, once again great as my therapist. And...a wonderful singer-songwriter, Sonya Bender! Keep coming back, it works if you work it.  Big week, two big shows coming up later this week...stay tuned.
