A new Broadway play investigates the contentious relationships between "Jaws" co-stars Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roy Scheider as they filmed the blockbuster hit in the 1970s. "The Shark is Broken" is co-written by Robert Shaw's son, Ian Shaw, who also stars as his father in the play. He joins us to discuss, alongside costars Alex Brightman and Colin Donnell. Alex Brigthman is no stranger to diving headfirst into Broadway shows based on beloved titles—after all, he's a two-time Tony nominee for leading roles in “School of Rock” and “Beetlejuice.” But his latest project is in a bigger boat altogether. “The Shark Is Broken,” a new play that opened August 10th, captures the behind-the-scenes turmoil of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster, “Jaws.” Co-written by Ian Shaw—who also stars as his father, Robert—the show sees Brightman donning the sweater of 70s-era Richard Dreyfuss alongside Colin Donnell as Roy Scheider. “You can't turn your head in any city without seeing some [“Jaws”] shirt, hat, license plate. Colin Donnell is an actor and musician who will next be seen as the lead in Peacock's “Irreverent,” which premieres November 30, 2022. He is well known to television audiences for his roles on NBC's hugely popular franchise “Chicago Med,” the CW series “Arrow,” and as Scotty Lockhart on the Showtime “The Affair.” He is also known for his Broadway performances in Violet, Anything Goes, and Jersey Boys, as well as the Regional and Off-Broadway productions of Wicked, Mamma Mia!, Merrily We Roll Along, Love's Labours Lost, among many others. In 2020, Donnell and his band The Nineteen Twenty released their debut album Chaos + Cocktails. Patti Murin is an accomplished stage and television actress who will next be seen in the upcoming Hallmark film In Merry Measure which will be released on November 11, 2022. Murin is well known for her critically acclaimed Broadway performances, which include originating the role of ‘Princess Anna' in Disney's Frozen, the titular role in Lysistrata Jones, her Broadway debut in Xanadu, as well as Glinda in the national tour of Broadway's renowned show Wicked. She previously appeared in Hallmark's Holiday for Heroes, as well as alongside her real-life husband Colin Donnell in Love on Iceland. On television, Murin has starred as recurring character ‘Dr. Nina Shore' in NBC's “Chicago Med,” as well as ‘Ana' in USA's “Royal Pains.” Murin has narrated a variety of audiobooks written by the likes of authors Jodi Picoult, Christina Lauren, Katherine Center, and more. Colin Donnell (best known from Arrow, Chicago Med) has returned to the small screen one again in Peacock's latest hit, Irreverent. Donnell starts as Paulo, who we meet in the middle of an exchange. This James Bond-like moment gets ruined and, through the chaos, leaves Paulo stuck fending for himself in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Donnell said it was so much fun playing Paulo and breaking down who he is as a character, adding that he had to balance out the action with the comedy. Donnell credits many of his co-stars and the writers behind the show, saying their talent makes him look good. Donnell is joined by a slew of known actors and first-timers, including P.J. To date, he has produced 56 Muny shows, 23 of which had never been on the Muny stage before. He has collaborated at The Muny with many Tony award winners and breakthrough talents, including Christian Borle, Colin Donnell, Marcia Milgrom Dodge, Gary Griffin, Heather Headley, Jennifer Holliday, Denis Jones, Laura Michelle Kelly, Dan Knecht- ges, Beth Leavel, Norm Lewis, Beth Malone, Kathleen Marshall, Patti Murin, Josh Rhodes, Emily Skinner and Ken Page. “It’s going to be bumpy, but it’s going to be worth it”. Colin Donnell is a singer, actor, and musician who has starred on both the stage and screen. His stage credits include the Broadway productions of Jersey Boys, Violet, and Anything Goes (for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination), as well as many national tours including Mamma Mia! and Wicked. Colin made his TV debut in ABC’s Pan Am alongside names like Christina Ricci and Margot Robbie, and has since appeared on Person of Interest, The Affair, Chicago PD, and both Arrow and Chicago Med as a series regular. Off of the stage and screen, Colin is also an incredible musician. While in quarantine, he and bandmate Brian Usifer formed The Nineteen Twenty, and their debut album Chaos + Cocktails is now available on all music streaming platforms. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Colin shares he “basically lived the High School Musical in reality”. He was “a sports kid” for most of his life, until freshman year of high school when he broke his ankle playing football. On a whim, and because he could juggle, Colin auditioned for the school production of Barnum. The rest is history. Speaking about his career, Colin opens up about what keeps it fun and interesting - continually striving to improve, grow, and tell the next story in a new and exciting way. He touches on the inevitable self doubt that creeps in when you share your work, but how freeing his newest project with The Nineteen Twenty has been, allowing him and Brian to focus on making the kind of music they want to make - something they could be proud of amid the shadow of a pandemic. Colin also talks about looking forward to the inevitable “explosion of creativity” in the years ahead, born out of the COVID-19 era - “what’s to come is going to be really special”. KINKY BOOTS, FROZEN, THE BOOK OF MORMON.. Ever heard of it?!?! If it weren't for Brian Usifer, Elder Price, Elsa, and Charlie Price wouldn't know how to sing. Music director, pianist, orchestrator, arranger, producer and composer Brian Usifer was the man behind the batton for Joe in FROZEN and Dan in KINKY BOOTS. This man has had such a huge impact on both of our careers and we are thrilled that he took the time to chat with us. We talk about how your "fight or flight instinct" doesn't go hand in hand with auditioning, and the respect that Brian has for singers in auditions. From his collaborative piano background to wanting to be a pop star, Brian has done IT ALL. His new band alongside Bway heartthrob Colin Donnell, The Nineteen Twenty just released their debut EP "Chaos and Cocktails" available on all the streaming platforms. Brian loves wine and food as much as he loves music, so obviously we all got along. Look out for new musicals based on the music of Huey Lewis and The Avett Brothers with Brian leading the music team. Brian's credits include: Music Director of Disney's Frozen on Broadway. Prior to that he was the Music Director of Kinky Boots on Broadway, which won 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. The cast recording won the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. He is also the Associate Music Supervisor of The Book of Mormon on Broadway and on tour as well as Kinky Boots on Tour, London and in Toronto. Brian has played in the Broadway and off-Broadway orchestras of Spelling Bee, Avenue Q, Altar Boyz and The Book of Mormon. Credits also include more than 5 years of regional theatre including Follies (Barrington Stage Co.) Concerts include Clay Aiken “Tried and True DVD,” for PBS. As an arranger/orchestrator, Brian's projects have included Mr. Chickee’s Funny Money with music by Motown legend Lamont Dozier, NBC's The Wiz Live, A View From The River by Will Van Dyke and Jeff Talbott, Fantasy Football: the Musical?, by David Ingber, Pool Boy by Niko Tsakalakos and Janet Allard, The UnCivil War by Rick Kunzi, Barnstormer by Douglas Cohen and The First Snow by Niko Tsakalakos. Laurel's necklace is the Black Canary logo from the comics Oliver and Company - The reference, in case you missed it the first hundred times we used it or when Cisco explained it this week, is to a Disney animated film from the '80s. It was a musical comedy about a group of streetwise dogs who take in a small, orange cat, in which the soundtrack was primarily driven by Billy Joel, whose biggest fan is probably Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim. Per Guggenheim, he made the Oliver and Company joke in the script, but it was actor Carlos Valdes who added the Billy Joel nod. The Hozen - In the pilot, Oliver gave Thea a Hōzen (宝箭) -- an arrowhead-shaped stone he found around the neck of a dead Japanese soldier on Lian Yu. In the pilot, he told her -- as she tells him this week -- that in Japanese Buddhism, the hōzen symbolizes reconnecting. Palmer's Buyout Offer - The Palmer Technologies buyout of Queen Consolidated came in season 3 of the TV show, but apparently here, Palmer was hovering around Queen as soon as he heard Robert Queen was thinking of stepping down. Van Horn Industries - Van Horn Industries is the name of a company owned by the family of Andrew Van Horn, a superhero known as Gunfire. Gunfire was created during the Bloodlines attack, a '90s attempt to create a bunch of new superheroes by giving them a common starting point: an alien invasion where some of the victims of parasitic, cannibalistic aliens survived and gained powers. WE LOVE ELIZABETH STANLEY! Currently headlining the national tour of "The Bridges of Madison County," Elizabeth was most recently seen on Broadway as Claire in last season's Tony nominated "On The Town." We first discovered Elizabeth in the 2006 John Doyle production of "Company," in which she played April (as well as the oboe, alto saxophone, and tuba). She went on to star in the short-lived but much-loved Broadway production of John Waters's "Cry Baby." She followed that performance up as Dyanne in the 2010 production of "Million Dollar Quartet." We have to say, though, it was her turn as Gussie in the 2012 Encores production of "Merrily We Roll Along" alongside Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Betsy Wolfe, and Colin Donnell that cemented her standing as one of today's greatest theater stars. Arrow Season One. For ten years Smallville told us the story of Clark Kent and how he became Superman, setting the stage for how to do a modern comic book television show. To make things worse, he broadcasts these murders online and claims he was inspired by Arrow’s (Stephen Amell) vigilantism. Oliver is horrified by this statement and vows to stop “The Savior,” but his manhunt in intensified after Thea (Willa Holland) comes to him in tears and tells him Roy (guest star Colton Haynes) has been kidnapped. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is surprised when her father (Paul Blackthorne) starts to believe her mother’s (guest star Alex Kingston) claim that Sara is still alive. Meanwhile, Malcom (John Barrowman) tells Moira (Susanna Thompson) to find the person responsible for his attempted murder. David Ramsey and Colin Donnell also star.
