Daren is joined by TNT lead analyst Eddie Olczyk (1:00). Edzo dives deep into both Conference Finals. He explains why Roope Hintz is so important to Dallas and what changes the Oilers might have to consider the rest of the way. What team in the Finals is feeling the most pressure to win now? Edzo answers that question and also takes a trip down memory lane as he recalls the run that the Rangers went on in 1994 to win the Stanley Cup. He wonders if the Rangers can continue to win with their style of play, but points to Igor Shesterkin's brilliance as to why the Rangers have been so dangers during this run. Plus, the guys go back and forth on some of the coaching practices we've seen in the NHL this cycle and Edzo discusses some of the changes he'd like to see with the way coaches are hired in the League.

Having spent 16 seasons with 6 different teams as an NHL player, ‘Edzo' knows the game. But, did you know he's also a horse-racing enthusiast?? In fact, the Seattle Kraken and NHL on TNT broadcaster actually started his TV career in horse-racing! Olczyk spoke on his journey from the NHL to broadcasting, stories from playing and covering the game, and a short stint as Ray Ferraro's teammate that included a ‘Grand Slam' bet payday courtesy of Bobby Bonilla. Plus, how the Seattle Kraken pulled off their improbable victory over the Colorado Avalanche, ‘misfits' making an impact on the sophomore team, and Seattle's chances against Oettinger and the Stars. In Headlines, the guys discuss Game 7 between the Devils and Rangers, Ray explains why Jacob Trouba's MASSIVE hit on Timo Meier was clean, and the possibility of the NHL adopting International head contact rules. Plus, a disappointing end for a star-studded Rangers squad, splashy additions not making a difference, and if major changes are coming to New York. Ray compares the Bruins collapse to his wife Cammi Granato's 2002 USA hockey team's run of dominance that came to an abrupt end; did a lack of ‘adversity' play a factor in the Bruins demise? The firing of Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter, the impact of player exit-meetings, and a disappointing season for the Flames rounds out Headlines. Kris Abbott joins the pod and talks his ‘bank account' reflecting a not-so-good average in his 1st round selections. However, it didn't go much better for the guys in a WILD start to the NHL playoffs. Are the Cubs even worth watching anymore? Rick and Eric are off the Cubs and enjoying their summer instead. Jack seems to think the White Sox are back and with the way the Twins are playing he may be right. Looks like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are staying Hawks until at least mid-season when the trade deadline nears but either way it's gonna be a new-look Hawks team with the subtraction of Edzo from the booth. With the Bulls signing Zach LaVine to the max contract what does that mean for the team in 5 years? Playoffs, NBA Finals, or even worse: nothing. Eric has the Bears winning 10 games this year but Rick and Jack aren't buying it so does it mean they still have a winning season or a losing one? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bigleagueschicago/support

The boys interview the NHL's lead color commentator and one of the best broadcasters and in all of sports Mr. Eddie Olczyk. Edzo is a former 1st round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, who scored in his very 1st NHL game, then went on to play 16 seasons in the NHL, a US olympian, former head coach, a member of the US Hockey Hall of fame and a member of the 1994 Stanley Cup winning New York Rangers. Edzo recently released a very personal and detailed book “Eddie Olczyk: Beating the Odds in Hockey and in Life" available on amazon and anywhere books are sold. From shooting hundreds of tennis balls at a goal in his childhood living room to the ups and downs of his improbable hockey career to rollicking stories from the booth and the backstretch, Olczyk guides readers on his journey toward his ultimate test: a battle against Stage 3 colon cancer. For years, Olczyk's goal was to be the best husband, father, broadcaster, and handicapper he could be. Today he has a new one: to bring as much awareness and support to those fighting cancer as he possibly can. In this emotional but often hilarious autobiography, you'll learn why the people who know Eddie Olczyk best might describe him as "tremendously tremendous."
Ray and Darren start off hitting on a number of the week's top headlines: the breaking news of Zack Kassian's 2-game suspension, Morgan Rielly being out for 8-weeks with a fractured foot, what's behind the Flames push of late, how tight the standings are in the Western Conf., Ray Shero's curious dismissal in NJ, and finally the guys dig into the top 6 teams in the EasterConf. Ray's former teammate in LA and current NHL on NBC analyst Eddie Olczyk joined and got up close and personal with the guys on a number of topics. Edzo told some awesome, hilarious stories from their time together on the Kings, including his hatred of turbulence on the team's charter flights. Eddie O also chatted on his struggles during his season as role player on the Rangers '94 Stanley Cup Championship team. Eddie was poignant talking about learning he was sick and going public in fighting his battle with stage 3 colon cancer and how it tested his will to live - and details what his 'TSN Turning Point' was thanks to his wife Diana after his second chemo treatment. In this week's edition of #ThroatPunch Darren nominates the slow retraction to the Ontario Operations Center alert about an accident at the Pickering Nuclear Facility. Ray nominates Sens player Tyler Ennis for the silly choice of risking a road hockey level move in a shootout. During 'Between the Benches' the guys get into the positive move the NHL made featuring the Women's 3 on 3 game as part of All Star weekend, talked more about the 'positive arrogance' of CBJ's standout goalie Elvis Merzlikins and whether Ray is 'positively arrogant'. 'Ask Ray & Dregs' sees questions on what Ray believes the standard should be for a 'dirty hit', Darren and Ray's favourite memories of watching Gretz, and the guys delve into why the NHL's trade deadline has become a mostly underwhelming annual affair. It's an amazing interview loaded with the stuff we love to bring you: laughs, insight, familiarity.
