This week, I'm talking to Reka and Dorina, the founders of Budapest Racquet Society—or BRS—in, you guessed it, Budapest. We're in the early days of this new tennis club movement, but something exciting is definitely happening at the intersection of social community and sports. Running and training have paved the way, and now tennis is stepping into the spotlight—and it's emerging fast. For a certain generation, the concept of social community is second nature. People are craving connection and movement, whether it's reconnecting with something they loved as kids or finally trying something they've always wanted to but found intimidating. Tennis has traditionally carried that air of exclusivity, but these new clubs are flipping the script. They're all about connection, community, and a genuine passion for the sport. BRS is a perfect example, making serious waves in Budapest's tennis scene. In this episode, we dive into Reka and Dorina's tennis backgrounds, the tennis culture in Hungary, and why Budapest seems especially welcoming to this new style of club. What I love about BRS and others like it is their focus on individuality and inclusivity. On court, with a racquet in hand, you're simply a tennis player—no clichés required. At its core, the draw of these clubs goes beyond the sport. It's about fun—the joy of being on court, moving, learning, and improving alongside others. Honestly, life doesn't get much better than that.A huge thanks to Dorina and Reka for sharing their time and for what they're doing for tennis in Budapest. I'm a big fan of the sport and all these new clubs popping up around the world. As always, share this pod with like-minded people or anyone who's thought about getting into tennis or racquet sports but didn't know where to start. Chances are, there's a club like BRS in a city near you—find them, get on court, and get involved. From Chris and me, peace.
A musician who has been part of our Friday morning live music segments, Isaiah Dreissen, joins the show to talk about a few "projects" he has going on. First off is the Cedars Project. The "Cedars Project" in Little Chute refers to the Treaty of the Cedars, a 1836 agreement where the Menominee Indian nation ceded approximately 4 million acres of land to the U.S. government, opening up the Fox River Valley for settlement. Isaiah has created a special space to enhance communities through art and commerce. He also fills us in on the 4th annual Cedars Festival. It's coming up on September 12th and 13th and will feature music from Feed The Dog, the Joseph Huber Trio, and more. We're excited to watch this grow organically. Then Dennis Peters, and Ashley McDermid join for the Heights Pub & Parlor Music Series. This week we feature the music of Chris Hendricks. From Chris's website: “Chris's life story is like a beautiful ballad that has fluid movement, graceful moments, and inspiring emotions. He is an artist, an inspirational speaker and believes passionately in sharing his message of loving kindness, hope and the value of each and every person's life..." His music and energy are just amazing! So blessed he joined us this morning. Today, we're taking a slight detour from tennis to dive into the world of pickleball with Jasper, co-founder of ASTES—a standout equipment brand making waves in this booming sport.ASTES caught my eye while I was exploring pickleball. I wasn't sure where they were based, but their clean aesthetic and high-quality products stood out immediately. Lucky for me, the team sent over one of their paddles, and I can confirm—it's superbly made. If you're in the market for pickle gear, I highly recommend checking them out. Now, I'm a tennis player at heart, and while pickleball and padel are more “fun on the side” for me, they're the main event for so many others—and I fully get it. What makes pickleball and padel so exciting is their accessibility and lower barrier to entry, especially compared to tennis, which often comes with layers of tradition and perception. That's a big reason why pickleball and padel are booming—courts are popping up everywhere, taking over underused tennis courts, while tennis clubs seem to be scratching their heads, wondering why participation is dropping. In this episode, I sit down with Jasper to talk all things pickleball—why it's exploding in popularity, how far it can grow, and the fascinating differences in how racquet sports are played around the world, from the USA to China. One thing is clear: whether it's pickleball, padel, or tennis, these sports bring joy to players everywhere—especially to the recreational crowd, which makes up the massive majority of us.ASTES makes fantastic pickleball gear, and Jasper is a great guy. I've really enjoyed this conversation and the insights he shared. As always, I encourage you to hit a racquet sports court, whatever flavor works for you! It's a great way to test your fitness, agility, coordination—and let's not forget patience. From Chris and me—peace.

I interviewed Dr. Chris Thurman, author of The Lies We Believe: Renew Your Mind and Transform Your Life and his newest book Emotionally Healthy Christianity: Following in the Psychological Footsteps of Jesus. A psychologist, Chris helps people experience deeper levels of emotional health from a Christian perspective. From Chris' website: "My lifelong passion as a psychologist has been to help people experience deeper levels of emotional health from a Christian perspective. My latest book, Emotionally Healthy Christianity: Following in the Psychological Footsteps of Christ, is the culmination of that effort. I believe the road to emotional health goes through the life of Jesus Christ. If we want to experience the abundant life, we would be wise to make following in His psychological footsteps a daily focus of our lives." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/eric-bryant1/support

Public comment on the Colorado Wolf Reintroduction and Management Plan is pretty much over, and after the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting on February 22, 2023, it looks like Colorado's elk hunting future is uncertain at best, to down-right over as we all currently know it, at worst! From Chris' perspective, having worked across from – having to deal with – animal activists throughout his professional career in Colorado for more than 20 years, he's not too optimistic, and believes Colorado's elk hunting [possibly most, if not ALL, hunting] is nothing more than a "dead man walking" at this point. In this discussion, Chris outlines: – Why he thinks that; – What his professional experience with animal activist groups is; – His experience with what happens when activists drive public policy; – What sportsmen can/might want to "do about it" with regard to the current climate of activism driving wildlife policy in Colorado.

It all started with a Valentine. Bernadette and Chris might not have known that one Valentine's Day dance would change their lives, but they are glad that it did. On this edition of Love in America, these high school sweethearts take us on a trip down memory lane as they share how their love story unfolded. From Chris's perspective of “having Bernadette at hello” (along with her mother), to the proposal that may have been sitting on the back burner a little too long for Bernadette's liking, there is never a dull moment when it comes to this fairy tale! While this couple gives us a handful of laughs, we are also encapsulated by the loyalty and overwhelming commitment the two continue to demonstrate towards each other every day. While consistently renewing their vows, Chris and Bernadette never fail to prove that they are the better half of one another. “We're each other's biggest fans, and we just want to be there for each other…” A heartwarming and honest conversational series about multifarious love and what it takes to make a romance stand the test of time. Hey there and welcome to the we move podcast. We have been away for a few weeks again whilst we waited for our next two pods both of which are a bit more gear based, specifically footwear and the ideas behind the two brands. We love brands, and gear, like we love food and farming and we also love the world around us and these two worlds often times are given a bad rep, but brands like food does have a place in the world. Since the farming series and conversations we are regularly having at our sister platform Commonground, where we work with brands and companies to support their communication to making their customers feel seen, safe and heard. We have been connecting some of the dots as to what is being sustainable, is it even a thing or is there something more appropriate and meaningful brands can be pursuing and integrating. And it is in this context that the next two podcasts are based. Perhaps increasingly the way brands are communicating feels like a cover up for the problems that they create as a result of actions they take. The goal of a fully regenerating and circular production cycle is firmly in a brands mind but the current place they and we find ourselves in is a little way off that destination. So it is about doing the best we can where we are and moving forward towards this goal. Having the awareness that every action has a reaction, and every problem solve will create something that might be a future problem enables a person, company or brand to have a mindset shift in how they perceive their place in the world and their journey forward. Step in Hylo Athletics. That is the essence of the Hylo brand, started by former professional footballer Michael Doughty and a couple of shoe industry veterans to create an active footwear brand using materials science to create products that deliver high performance for athletes and low impact for the planet. Hylo is a year in and as Michael will say, it has not always been a straight forward case of following ideals. The initial models whilst up there in sustainability were not so in longevity, creating a conundrum for brands because longevity for the customer is a key part of making a positive impact. Now Hylo shoes are finding their sweet spot and per pair have 50% less impact on the planet than all other brands out there. Some may say 50% too much, but 100% further on than others. Having just secured a further round of investment, they are set to continue making positive impact, and if that combines with supporting people to move then that is never a bad thing in my book. This week is Hylo, next week is RAD Global. A new footwear startup in a different movement space, but doing equally good things to challenge the stagnant status quo. As always thanks for listening, and if you are feeling in the supportive mood, head to wemove.world and click the orange button in the bottom left corner to buy us a ko-fi or click the link in our insta bio @wemoveworld. Chris Powers is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Fort Capital (https://fortcapitallp.com/) and the host of The FORT podcast (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-fort-with-chris-powers/id1410549811). Chris is a serial entrepreneur with more than 16 years of real estate development and investment experience. Since founding Fort Capital, the company has invested over $1.4B in Class B industrial, commercial, multifamily, student housing, and residential and land development projects. His drive to always remain curious, desire to connect with and learn from others led Chris to start his podcast, The FORT. In the FORT, Chris talks with leaders of businesses across real estate and a variety of industries and dives deep into ideas and topics that are not regularly discussed. Chris covers each guest's story and explores in detail the critical moments that led to success, failure, growth, and confidence. He has successfully published over 200 podcast episodes. Standout Quotes: * "You only are going to be on this earth one time, you really are not coming back again after the first time; let's make the most of it" - [Chris] * "Everything that you were mad at your parents for when you were a kid, is everything you respect them for when you're an adult" - [Chris] * "Money never mattered to my dad, being content and serving others did" - [Chris] * "I think it's a very special thing in life to really want to be good at something" - [Chris] * "If you're a parent and you actually can't give your kids the things they want, it makes it almost easy; what's tough is when you can give them what they want and you choose not to" - [Chris] * "How can you expect someone that grew up with everything easy and given to them, to ever have that burning desire" - [Chris] * "Kids don't learn by words, they learn by actions, so I can say everything I want to my kids but they're going to be watching what I'm doing" - [Chris] * "You don't keep families together, particularly with the amplification of wealth, if you're not intentionally practicing the values" - [Mike] * "We're living in a really cool generation where I think we're going to be able to tell our stories to our kids like nobody's been ever been able to do it before" - [Chris] * "There's just very few people that matter in this world that you remember because of how much money they had, it's really about what they did… you will be defined by how much people remember you" - [Chris] * "The majority of businesses that do really well hit singles and doubles over and over" * "When's enough enough?... it depends on how big of an impact you want to have" - [Chris] * The first great business decision you're going to make is who you marry" - [Warren Buffet, Chris] * "There's things in life that are either giving us energy or taking away energy" - [Chris] Key Takeaways: * Chris Powers is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Fort Capital. He is also the host of the podcast, "The FORT", as well as a serial entrepreneur with over 16 years of experience in Real Estate Development and Investment Experience. Chris is a first-generation entrepreneur with stories that shaped him down to his relationship with his children. * Chris's dad was a lawyer who valued education, however, after 13 years of being a lawyer, He decided to become a doctor. With two kids and a wife at home, He left law and started medical school at the age of 39 which took place over 8 years with a financial toll on the family. The experience during those years created the foundation for the impression Chris has about money, feeling fortunate to have been more deprived of things than his peers. Chris also learned the importance of doing things in life that give fulfillment. * Because of the experience of not having money over those years, Chris became an entrepreneur at a young age to get the money he needed. However, Chris has a fear that his success allows him to skip the chances to deprive his kids of the things they should be deprived of. * Following the passing of his dad, Chris witnessed a turnout at the funeral and stories that depicted the level of impact people felt while his dad was alive. Although it was a traumatic unexpected event, Chris felt equipped at the time to take the reins in the family because his father had trusted him very early on to do things. This taught Chris that there's a level of transparency that is healthy with children, for them to start learning early on how the family operates. * "If you study people who are extremely successful in life endeavors, there is a common thread among them where they were in a position to really want something while growing up". This has made Chris understand that it is hard but necessary to deprive kids of certain things even when they can be gotten. He is trying to teach his kids not to be overly reliant on his wealth but to forge their path. Additionally, having the nature to treat people very well even from childhood is a good foundation to build on. * Raising great children amidst wealth is a challenge, and the importance of transparency cannot be overemphasised, especially when it comes to treating people well, or other issues affecting family values. This is important to note because kids learn by watching the actions of their parents, hence the teaching values has to be transparently done through actions. This transparency also translates to work, as Chris tries to make his work fun and appealing to his kids rather than intimidating. * Chris has been very intentional about leaving content for his children to learn from, especially in recordings and this is one of the motivations for his podcast, "The FORT". * Currently, Chris is working to create intentional family traditions that build the family experience. The first of these is an annual talk recorded and kept to give the kids later in life. * Starting Fort Capital: While in school, Chris wasn't particularly trying to make a lot of money but came across someone in Real Estate who helped him learn and start Real Estate deals which resulted in his company "Fort Capital". It is a Real Estate private equity company based in Fort Worth Texas. It is focused on buying Class B industrial and multi-tenant properties, functioning as value-add buyers. As time goes by the desire to sell lessens because there have been great liquidity events from sales and holding cash from sales isn't very impactful anymore. This is beneficial especially for newcomers because Real Estate is a great tax tool. * It is easy to get overwhelmed by other companies that seem to be doing immensely well, and be tempted to keep taking high chances. However, the majority of businesses succeed by surviving and growing incrementally. * To be an entrepreneur you need someone supportive even when things aren't so great. Chris recalls how selfless his mum must have been to be supportive of his father's unexpected decision to study medicine. This played a major role in the success of his dad just like his wife plays to get him to where he is today. * Concerning his view on generational wealth, Chris believes the easy route for a lot of folks with money is to let their kids assume that it's all going to be theirs, as soon as they believe it, whether it's true or not it can alter their lives. He is yet to decide on what he will leave for his kids but currently focuses on shaping their mindset on money. "I want my kids to have something but I want them to earn it and I don't want them to live a life dependent on it; not because I think it would be bad for them to have money but I think it would rob them the joy of living a fulfilled life" * From Chris to his kids: The way they will be judged when they leave earth is by the impact they've had on others. For them to live a fulfilled life, they need to think each day, "if it was all over tomorrow, what did I leave the world"? An exercise for listeners concerning this is "If you were at your 80th birthday party, write down what you would expect people you care about to say to you". You've got one shot, make it count. The best way to send them in is on our email at GarageHeroesInTraining@gmail.com or via our social media on Instagram @GarageHeroesInTraining. 2) From Mario: We are all getting older, and I wonder how age has crept up on him. Ask him to rate his speed currently vs how fast he was at his peak. Is he getting slower with age? What is he doing smarter now, that results in a better lap time, and that he'd wished he'd learned earlier? Are there things he was doing at a young age that he can't do as well now? 3) Ian asked: about his Lotus Elan and why he likes it so much. 4) From Chris: What were the few of the biggest changes that you have had since writing your first speed secrets? Was anything “wrong”? 5) Adam asked for some drills to break a plateau (same lap times no matter what I try)? What should I look to do to get my times lower? 6) From Reed: Breaking mental barriers to carry more speed 7) A shy adult road racer: What order is best to read your books? Hey there and welcome to the weMove podcast.Start of a new series with this podcast. Inspired by our guests book, which when I picked up felt like the eloquent and authoritative documentation of methods, approaches, tips and tricks that I have been learning since 2014 when I realised my own health journey was not perhaps the most enjoyable one.And that has been my understanding of what health is for each of us. It's a journey, that takes us through different ages, stages and environments and the secret sauce to the enjoyment of the journey is awareness, understanding and an approach which is supple. And in that I am talking about an approach that allows us to move through environments which are less enjoyable, be able to anticipate without fear what is approaching us in life. There will be of course unexpected discoveries along the journey of health but having the requisite skills to navigate out of environments which do not cultivate our Selves and beings is essential. And it is the consequences of the environments we are living in and approach to modern living that our guest Dr Jenny Goodman wrote her book “Staying Alive in Toxic Times”which I believe is the book every household would benefit from having in their life. It's simple to read and understand, respectful to the seasons of life and a rich mine of information for living in our health potential and enjoying the journey of good health. This podcast is the first part of two with Jenny, and we move through the book, beginning with what health is and why we in this modern time have got our approach perhaps out of sync with what is good for us, where it went wrong historically and then onwards into the connection of the food we eat, the environmental effects on foods nutritional content and its links to farming. And finishing with the guidelines which are appropriate for 99% of us, 99% of the time and how in this modern age supplements can become allies in supporting our health.I'm excited about these podcasts, the direction of the journey this will take weMove and the value to each of us that this knowledge and wisdom delivers. From Chris and me. Peace
Hey there and welcome to the wemove podcast. So, we're now back and looking forward to bringing you the next sort of series of podcasts, we've got two gear ones lined up with a couple of brands that we really fond off for doing very, very different things. And then back to our usual journeying amongst ideas of movement health, well being. So today, we are in conversation with Louis and Staz the founders of Thrudark, a brand which sits at the intersection of outdoor performance, physical training and experience both founders gained in UKSpecial Forces Their prior experience alone makes them interesting guys, but how did two operators get to becoming designers and creators of some of the most advanced and rigorous gear on the market today?Knowing what is needed when it is actually a matter of life and death gives a very clear filter and perspective in which to create something necessary, and this is where the idea started. From experience in some of the most hostile environments in the world. So it's a really interesting perspective underpinned by a level of rigor and a relentless pursuit of making something of value that creates the standard of products that Thrudark does. The design etc might not be your cup of tea, per se, but you know when you look at something that is so good. Regardless of your interest in the field, you can't help but be impressed by it, and I think Thrudark is one of those brands, it's like a modern classic brand underpinned by 100% authenticity. It's real deal gear for going and doing things in places that will keep pushing you to your limit. Thanks to Louis and Staz for their time and of course Henry for connecting us. Enjoy. And finally to make the editing and recording process smoother, we have our contribution app where you can buy us a coffee or two to keep us going. Easy to do on our website weMove.world or click the link in our inst bio, also weMove.world.From Chris and me, peace.

On this episode of Financial Planning For Canadian Business Owners, Jason Pereira talks to Chris Sabat - General Counsel McMillan Estate Planning. Today Chris is going to talk about a deeper dive into statement freezes. We have covered a freeze in the past, but specifically today, we are going to go over a little bit more around the thinking and the mechanics of how you execute an estate freeze and why? Episode Highlights: 1.16 Chris is a lawyer working with a team of lawyers, accountants, financial planners, and state planners at Macmillan Estate Planning Company in Calgary. Primarily McMillan serves entrepreneurial families throughout Western Canada. 1.58 Chris says it is not a situation where they find themselves going into their account and having a discussion that needs some advice taking that advice and trying to interpret that invoice for their lawyer. That is what kind of unique from my perspective about McMillan is that all those experts bring brought under one roof. So as per Chris, it really helps to facilitate a positive result in relation to something like an estate freeze.2.44 Jason says we all in our own industries get caught up in jargon and our level of what we consider based on proficiency or base understanding, but that's not what the average person thinks. Sometimes it is easy for us to get carried away, and sometimes it translates into something that is very simple and powerful. 3.05: According to Chris, Estate freeze is sort of a revenue Canada taxation of your state. What you're doing is you're freezing the tax liability. That will be imposed upon your passing and transferring that value deferring that taxation into the hands of your children or successive generations. In a nutshell if we want to stop the increased taxation of your estate while still providing you with access to that value, should you happen to need it. 4.45: Chris says that the revenue Canada recognizes with things like the succession of a business, one of the challenges is the tax building comes about on passing. This can be a way to help transfer between two successful successions within a family. 5.35: In most cases, the conversation on estate freezes typically gets started, probably by the accountant or the advisor, and then the lawyers get roped into it. Jason asks Chris to talk to about the first steps or requirements they brought to the table in this estate freezer. 5.55 Chris explains that the estate freezes can be used in relation to a wide variety of assets. It can even be used for things like publicly traded securities or investment accounts. So, it is not necessarily just restricted to the use of the transfer of shares or the freezing of the value of a corporation or qualified small business.6.48 Chris says as a first step, we must have a value. Whether it is an investment account that is the subject of the freeze, whether it is a real estate portfolio that contains primarily passive assets, or whether or not it's an active company qualified small business corporation. We need to have some sort of valuation.8.35: As per Chris, entrepreneurial families don't want to give up control. They always want to have some control over the business and its future going forward. 10.23: There are a couple of provisions in the tax code of section 85 which allow us to roll over assets. There are others like 51, which allows us to exchange, but these are all recognizing the tax code is being non-taxable events, they are basically tax-deferred events. 10.56 Jason asks Chris, “You mentioned two options you had, either held by the next generation or held by a family trust. Could you talk about the positives and negatives of both those strategies?” 11.05 Chris highlights the huge negative around the transfer or the direct transfer. It is like having the children as individuals subscribed to the grocers, a huge downside of that is that the children actually own shares. If the children own shares, that means Mom and Dad can't be in control. 13.14: Another huge advantage with the family trust from my perspective, especially for your qualified small business corporation, is the ability to multiply your lifetime capital gains exemption or the lifetime capital gains exemption that applies for the business, says Chris.15.29 Jason says, let's talk about what happens when you establish the estate freeze, and for whatever reason, you wanted to send your kids or whatever it might be, and you want to undo the estate freezes. So, what's involved with something like that? 16.02 Chris: One reason that the unwinding of the estate freeze comes about is because the vast majority of trusts have a 21-year deemed disposition, so we do the estate freeze. We have given the growth value to the family trust 21 years in the future. Revenue Canada in essence, gives you one of two options. You can pay the taxes on the capital gains; the family trust can pay the taxes or roll their shares out to one or more beneficiaries. So, it is not uncommon in families to see a freeze done maybe at least a couple of times during their lifetime.17.48: At the end of the day, what you are doing is you are transferring the shares to one or more of the beneficiaries, and it is a relatively simple exercise, says Chris19.06 Jason request Chris to explain the concept of a wasting freeze.20.05: Chris explains no one has a continual ongoing valuation of their business, so once you have got that fixed value, you quite conveniently redeemed and then wither away those capital gains. Typically, what we are doing is we are stopping future capital gains and getting rid of some of the historical capital gains that have been built up in the estate. 21.09: Talking about section 208, Jason inquires how does the misery, that is, the complications of that section of the act, impact? How is it to be approached at this point?21.27: Chris explains bill C208 is the law. It is not finalized. Revenue Canada has made it clear, or the Department of Finance has made it clear that they are going to propose amendments to Bill C208. What Chris likes about Bill C208 is that, in a sense, there is maybe a recognition that business succession planning is a long-term exercise. 24.40 As per Chris's observation about an estate freeze, especially when they utilize things like family trusts, is that unfortunately. They are often looked at as an accounting exercise. They looked at it from the perspective of how do we minimize tax? At the end of the day, we have got a business valuation. We have got a share swap. The question is that professionals assisting you understand all of the potential complications that can come about in these types of scenarios.27.10: Jason says estate freeze is simply an accounting strategy. This is not a taxation exercise at its core this is a financial planning exercise. This is a family dynamics exercise. This is an entrepreneurial succession planning exercise. 3 Key Points:The one thing unique about McMillan is that all professionals need to be involved in accountants, lawyers, experts, and things like business, succession, etc. So, all of those individuals have been brought under one roof. From Chris's perspective, the advantage of that is that it is not the sort of situation where maybe a client identifies, and we hear something about the concept of an estate freeze and how that might be advantageous. The kind of first level of an estate freezes it is about limiting capital gains on passing and then where it really becomes powerful. We can really create value, or at least minimize the taxation that is going to be imposed upon events like the sale of a business. The problem historically around succession planning was that there was a penalty if you happen to sell your shares to your children. It was treated as a dividend. With Bill C208, ultimately, what we are going to be able to do is facilitate transactions where there is actually an intergenerational transfer of the company shares, and you will be able to utilize that lifetime capital gains exemption. So, it does work in conjunction with an estate freeze. Tweetable Quotes: “In a nutshell, the bottom line about Estate Freeze is we are stopping the growth in one person's name and passing it on to another generation's name.” - Jason Pereira“Family trust is often the preferred method.” - Chris “In cases where the freeze happens, and there's an amount, especially in excess of the capital gains exemption amount, a lot of clients who speak, they plan on taking a given an income from the company for the rest of their lives.” - Jason Pereira“We know the Department of Finance is going to come in, and they are going to fiddle with the bill, and of course, their concern is surplus stripping. They don't want abuses of the Income Tax Act in order to allow people to extract value at a non-dividend tax rate at the capital gains rate.” – Chris “Bill C 208 once cleaned up it still stays true to the actual spirit of what you trying to do, would actually maybe eliminate for that would allow that deemed dividend on a wasting freeze to become a capital gain.” – Jason “When it comes to things like business succession when it comes to controlling issues when it ensures that at the end of the day other than just saving tax, the estate freeze meets the goals and objectives of the family.” – Chris Resources MentionedFacebook – Jason Pereira's FacebookLinkedIn – Jason Pereira's LinkedInWoodgate.com – SponsorLinkedIn – Jason Pereira's LinkedInChris Sabat: Website | LinkedIn Podcast Editing Transcript See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Otis Jiry's Scary Stories Told in the Dark: A Horror Anthology Series
In this episode of Scary Stories Told in the Dark, we bring you four terrifying tales from author Christopher Maxim, performed by host and narrator Otis Jiry, about astral instructions, creepy canines, eerie elevators, and dangerous desires. Today, we’re asking for your help, if you’re able to offer it, on behalf of tonight’s talented featured author. Regrettably, Chris has been hard-hit both financially and physically by the coronavirus pandemic. He suffers from a high-risk health condition that’s left him immuno-compromised and quarantined indefinitely. Coupled with serious issues collecting unemployment, Chris has found it difficult to make ends meet, let alone afford the treatment he needs to improve his health. So, we'd like to ask you a simple favor: if you’re able to help in any way, whether by donating to him directly, or by purchasing his books on Amazon.com, it would mean a lot to all of us. We’ve set up an author profile for Chris on our website, at https://www.SimplyScaryPodcast.com/maxim. On that page, you’ll find links to Chris’s Amazon page, as well as an assortment of his featured books. You’ll also find a donation link that will allow you to show your appreciation for his bone-chilling fiction by contributing a few dollars to him directly. Just look for the donation link us his social media links, at the top of the page. You can also use the page to contact Chris, if you’d like to ask about other ways to help. Hey there and welcome to the weMove podcast coming live from my living room and the wonders of Zoom whilst we are in this time of isolation. So the last week or so, we have been surrounded by news, news and more news on Covid 19/Coronavirus. I wanted to know more about what we can personally do to regain some control of our Selves whilst the news and media does its best to create increasing levels of fear, panic and hysteria. So I made a few phone calls and extended whatsapp messages to the sources that I trust when I have questions health related, both physical and mental and in this case particularly with regards to how we can optimise our immune system and provide it with the resources to do what it needs to do.Having knowledge that I trust from those who are at the tip of the spear in their fields gives me the opportunity to makes necessary steps forward, I trust you get something from this conversation that can be actionable and timely to support you through this defining era of the new decade. From Chris and me, take care of yourselves and reach out to us if you have any more questions. Peace.
In a bit of a departure from the normal business programming, Chris sits down with Zen Priest Sensei Gary Koan Janka to talk about how our wants and fears of not getting what we want fuel our suffering and how to begin to alleviate that suffering. From Chris: "I was thinking about all of the people who are afraid right now and what impact that fear is having on not only our economy, but our society writ large. I wanted to do something that went beyond the day to day micro-coping, or analysis of this or that aspect of business and offer a conversation that could literally appeal to every single person who listened to it, no matter their circumstance. I hope this helps." Chris also offers a warning to folks looking to find enlightenment on a stationary bike or in a Lululemon, and explains how Jedi Masters walk among us.

This week we are talking about using fat for fuel and that means the ketogenic diet! I have been experimenting and researching keto for around 6 months now and it has been eye-opening, especially regarding the recommended dietary information provided by experts and health care professionals. It can be pretty confusing if you don't know where to look, so I want to get someone on the podcast who knows there shit and my man Chris Irvin certainly does! From Chris: "My name is Chris Irvin and I am a nutrition researcher, writer, and educator. I hold a Master’s Degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science and am currently the education manager for Perfect Keto. After spending a couple of years doing research and developing content about keto, I decided to start looking more into the keto industry because I wanted to bring more research and education into the industry. Fortunately, Perfect Keto was looking for someone to improve research and education within there company, something they were already doing very well! I was already a big fan of Dr. Anthony Gustin and the quality products he was making at Perfect Keto so it ended up making a great fit." G’day Mark and Sam I have a couple of caches that I have been unable to find but one of my most frustrating is one over there in Southern England. It is GC17KR8, Trapezia Lick. I have been there a number of times while I have been staying there and always came away without the smiley. I would say I have searched under every tree and bush within 30 metres of GZ, fought the nettles and the brambles all without success. With such a good clue I thought this one would be an easy one. It is good to see that people are still finding it and I will definitely give it another go next time I am over. I am lucky that the journey I take to this one is quite a pleasant one. I go for a run in the mornings and running up to this cache along the disused rail track from Fareham is an experience a bit different from my morning runs around Perth but isn’t that what makes caching fun. Cheers Keep up the good work. Chris Gore Dumb Stuff Geocachers Do.. From Shortyknits.. A couple years ago, over Memorial Day weekend in May 2013, Scott and I decided to go to Wisconsin for the weekend to do part of the 400 State Trail. http://www.400statetrail.org/ No, we didn’t drive the car on the trail, but in retrospect maybe we should have! The trail is an old abandoned railroad that the state turned into a recreational trail for biking and hiking and snowmobiles and horseback riding, and there are a few hundred caches along the main trail and all of its spurs. It’s about 3 hours from where we live in the Chicagoland area, but fortunately it’s only about a half an hour from where my sister lives. And more fortunately, my sister has a rental house that just happened to be between tenants that we could stay in. And even more fortunately, she had an extra vehicle with a bike rack so we could set up a getaway car at the end of the trail. We get off to a bit of a late start Saturday morning, mostly because we had been out night caching until about 2 or 3 in the morning the night before. But we get up and load everything in the two cars and drive to our planned ending place where we drop off my sister’s car. We drive all the way back to the start of the trail in my car, unload the bikes, get our trail passes, and head out. It took us a couple hours of driving back and forth to set up the cars, and it’s close to noon by this time, which is a few hours later than we had planned to get started. Even so, we had a great time on the trail. The weather was perfect, and we found most of the caches along the way. Back then, I was still a relatively new cacher. I hit find #1300 on the trail, and this was my first triple digit day. We found a total of 114 between the trail itself and the towns along the way. It couldn’t be a more perfect day … UNTIL….. We get about 13 miles in, just a miles away from the town where we parked the 2nd car. It’s getting to be evening by now, and I’m thinking that we had actually timed it just about right, and that we’d get to the end just as the sun was setting. So I’m riding along heading to the next cache, when suddenly I have the most terrible, horrible, worst ever thought. I skid to a stop and say … Ooooohhhhhhhh beeeeeeeeeppppppp!!!! Scott pulls up next to me to ask me what’s up. All I could say was, “please don’t kill me!” Eventually I reluctantly told him what I did – I left the keys in the car. That’s right. The key to the car that’s a mile in front of us is in the car that’s 13 miles behind us. And we’re tired. And it’s almost dark. I had no choice but to call my sister. I explain to her our situation and ask her to bring me a spare key. Well there’s another problem – there’s no spare key. The only key she had to that car was the one locked in my car. She was not too happy about it, but big sisters have no choice but to come to the rescue of the little sister. It took over an hour for her to get to where we were, during which time we found the only bar in the tiny town for a few beers. When she finally got there, we locked up the bikes and she drove us all the way back to the start of the trail so that we could get my car and drive all the way back to the end of the trail to pick up the bikes and the getaway car. We had a good plan gone all wrong. So I hope that if you or any of your listeners are ever planning to do a bike trail like this and plan on setting up a couple of cars, they’ll think of me and REMEMBER THE STUPID KEY! News.. I think your idea about portal or worm holes for trading travel bugs is an excellent idea. Please keep us all updated on progress. I will put it to use. I have two travel bugs that have been logging miles and visits all over the world. TB4JB39, Dog Tag "BATMAN", has been dropped in GC3NTHV which is located in Colombia, South America. On its way from the USA it also visited three caches in Mexico, one each in Costa Rica and Panama before being dropped. This makes it my first travel bug to travel in North, Central and South America and visit more than two countries. Thank you to geocacher Sludge_Shoveler for taking my travel bug on vacation with him. TB4JAZ9 has been visiting caches and logging miles in over parts of the world. After touring the Midwest section of the USA it was dropped off in Hawaii. Of all places to be dropped off. Really. Bummer. An awesome geocacher, Scottish Cavalryman, grabbed it and has had it touring the islands and other great places. So far this includes South Korea, Philippines and Thailand. Here is the fun part. Both of the travel bugs are proxy tags. Neither of the original tags logged many mile. One logged ZERO!!! That is correct, ZERO!!! It never made it past the first cache I dropped it off at. I will give details of how I made the proxy tags in the future. Cache on! Redbeard4570 Travelbug Race.. Ask Doctor D.. Audio from CraigsOutside GGH Tips..
