Lawyers for Conor McGregor dramatically withdrew a bid to introduce new evidence in his civil rape case appeal. Evidence included allegations made by Samantha O'Reilly and Steven Cummins – former neighbours of Ms Nikita Hand. Ms Hand's counsel John Gordon said his side was in ‘shock' at the late withdrawal of the fresh evidence application. In her affidavit, Ms O'Reilly had claimed she was woken by sounds of “screaming and shouting” from Ms Hand's house. Looking from her window, she said she could see “Ste's arms moving up and down as if he was hitting Nikita”. “I also saw him moving his hips in a way that indicated to me that he was kicking her,” she claimed. In an affidavit, Ms Hand dismissed this account. "My ex-partner Stephen Redmond [known as 'Ste'] did not assault me on the night of December 9/10, 2018, and never assaulted me in the course of our relationship, or since," she said. "I don't want to speculate on why Samantha and Steven are making up these lies." Ms Hand's counsel John Gordon said his side was in “shock” at the late withdrawal of the fresh evidence application. He said it was "not appropriate" to dress up the withdrawal of the application in such a way. The barrister said Ms Hand had been “put through the wringer” after the allegation, which she denounced as “lies”, was outlined in court and reported in the newspapers. Today on the Indo Daily, Fionnán Sheahan is joined by Shane Phelan, Legal Affairs Editor with the Irish Independent, to unpack a busy opening day in Conor McGregor's civil rape appeal.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Due to missing microphones and scheduling issues between the 2025 FTK hosts you're all lucky (or unlucky) to have both Brett and Joel recording their sesquicentennial episode together. TRAINING WEEKS For the first time this year Brett shares his training week with our non-patreon listeners. You'll hear about all the running he's doing, his current level of fitness and his ability to perform podcast live-shows from inside the sauna. Joel talks about his training week and has the man in charge of it (Brett) there to explain why he's doing what he's doing. THE BIG Q Changing things up this week Joel poses two questions to Brett. These two questions were sent Joel's way by his athletes Tess and Jordie (they do not sign a release waiver). GIVE SOME KUDOS Brett sends his Kudos to a bloke running an 800m in the Rayban x Meta glasses while Joel talks up a popular TV show from the mid 2000's. TWHSOITWTWATSA Brett gets greedy as he returns to the main show and submits two entries for our closing segment. First he has questions around the gym program of the fast Kenyan marathoners before moving his attention towards the less talented (running-wise at least) Conor McGregor during his hill-sprint training. Joel closes out with a strava screenshot of a bloke running a 50km ultra-marathon inside a strip-club. UFC may be the big dogs in combat sports, but things don't always go their way. In fact, their own athletes in the case of Jon Jones or Conor McGregor get one over on them frequently. Other organizations and people like Turki Alalshikh as well. These are the times the UFC had to bow to someone else.
“The kids were coming down for breakfast when these five men wearing cargo pants, big jackets arrived. They came into the third floor, stood in front of the bedroom door, took the three kids back in and told them to pack up. We heard them say: ‘You are going to be deported.' As soon as the other children heard then they were all crying. It was such a horrific scene.”This was how a resident in an IPAS centre in West Dublin described the scenes when families were deported last week and sent back to Nigeria.“This is not a pleasant part of my job,” Jim O'Callaghan said on RTE. On X he said, “Another deportation flight left Dublin last night and landed safely this morning in Lagos, Nigeria. There were 35 people on board who had received but had not complied with Deportation Orders.”On Free State today, Dion and Joe asked who these messages are aimed at? What is Ireland doing to combat the fantasies being spun by people like Conor McGregor about a lost Ireland that never existed? Is appealing to those with concerns about immigration necessary to head off the far right or is this world without compassion and empathy Ireland's dystopian future?
