Janine Klein, CEO & Co-Founder, and Andrea Canny, Actor & Interactive Learning Specialist, of the Emotional Intelligence Institute (Eii), join Yo to talk about how avatar-led training is delivering human-focused solutions. Eii is taking the power of creative storytelling and instead of using it to entertain, they help people understand each other on a deeper level. Their mission is to create immersive training experiences that blend artistry with emotional intelligence. Janine is an Innovator of immersive learning, virtual and live action simulations and role play experiences. She is a film & theatre actor, storytelling/improv and EQ consulting and awarded playwright. As Owner and Creative Director, she leads her team in pioneering methods for leader development and challenging conversations, making a definitive impact in the fields of defense, healthcare, and education.   Andrea, you may remember, is my beloved sister-in-law and amazing performer with a 40-year career spanning through Asia, Europe, and the USA. She's joined us on 4 other episodes and you can check below for those details. Her Disney career began at Disney's MGM Studios as the original Belle (Beauty and the Beast), original Laverne (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Adventurers Club, and more. Andrea was voted Vocalist of the Decade on Broadwayworld.com in 2020. She also won Critic's Pick: Best Actress in a Musical 2018 for her portrayal of Mama Rose in Gypsy at the Garden Theatre.   Topics covered in the Episode:       Emotional Intelligence Institute Origins       Avatar-Led Demonstration        Benefits of using Avatar-Led Training       Improvisation & Storytelling Role       Client Feedback   Here are three takeaways from the episode: 1.   A demo really helps put yourself in the role and you will find yourself suspending disbelief. The technology allows one to practice and do a dress rehearsal so the body can be relaxed during what can be difficult conversations. 2.   Avatar-led technology is different than role-playing because of the vulnerability involved in 1:1 conversation with people can have unintended consequences while avatar-led training allows individual practice and results in complete buy-in. 3.   The actor/avatar provides the safe-space (no right or wrong) to allow participants reveal their personal stories that they're naturally open to in life for their own self-discovery.   Other Episodes On Topic:   Ep. 191, The Art of Storytelling: Building Abundance Through Personal Narratives w Andrea Sampson https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/QfjRzAFODNb   Ep. 76, “Don't Take It So Personally!” & Emotional Intelligence https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/2f8jMSuODNb Other Episodes with Andrea Canny:   Ep. 1, Wait, I can Sound Wimpy https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/8iGXusmODNb   Ep. 2, Is Leadership Funny? https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/yGgkAmpODNb   Ep. 3, Betty White: More than Just Funny? https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/dtcRjmpODNb   Ep. 89, Andrea Canny Discusses: Ageism, Interviewing, Pay Gaps, Talents, & Seeing Our Gifts https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/hdtUePuODNb   The Eii Demo Offer: https://eiieq.com/contact/   How to reach or follow Janine & Eii:  https://info@eiieq.com   How to reach Andrea Canny:   Andrea has her own Proofreading/Editing business (books, scripts, etc.) and her coaching studio for corporate speakers and private & group coaching in vocal performance & the business of entertainment for performers. Synopsis Today's date in 1904 marks the birthday of Richard Addinsell, a versatile British musician who became one of the most famous film score composers of his generation. Addinsell was born in London, studied music at the Royal College of Music, and pursued additional studies in Berlin and Vienna before heading off to America in 1933 for some practical education at Hollywood film studios. He put both his theoretical and practical learning to good use when he returned to England, where he began composing for a series of successful British movies, like the Oscar-winning 1939 film “Goodbye, Mr. Chips.” Addinsell also became a popular songwriter and accompanist for British comediennes and cabaret singers of the day. But Addinsell is best known as the composer of the Warsaw Concerto, a piano concerto consciously modeled on the big Romantic scores of Rachmaninoff. This music originally appeared in the 1941 British adventure film “Dangerous Moonlight,” retitled “Suicide Squadron” when it was released in the States in 1942. After that mega-hit, Addinsell's fluent and versatile writing continued to grace a goodly number of Post-War British films and TV dramatizations, ranging from historical epics to psychological thrillers, gritty “slice-of-life” dramas, and whimsical, light-hearted comedies. Addinsell died in London at the age of 73 in 1977. Music Played in Today's Program Richard Addinsell (1904 –1977) Goodbye Mr. Chips BBC Concert Orchestra; Kenneth Alwyn, conductor. Si sviluppò in seguito a New York e Brodway. Ascolteremo: All, I ask of you (Il fantasma dell'opera), Good morning starshine (Hair), Everything's Alright (Jesus Christ Superstar), One (Chorus Line), Electricity (Billie Elliot), Gimme Gimme Gimme (Mamma Mia), Maria (West Side Story), Memory (Cats), I Dreamed a Dream (I Miserabili), Never Enough (The Greatest Showman), Fame (Fame), Singin' in the Rain (Cantando sotto la pioggia). We discuss the following: * Key points from the book, When Women Invented Television, by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong where the author points out that Betty is recognized “for offering early television her crazy ideas, her willingness to do whatever it took to succeed, and her outrageously charming personality”. We are most grateful to her for this! * We recognize her leadership and authenticity in choices she made about marriage, having children, and helping others along (i.e., standing firm and keeping Arthur Duncan on her Betty White Show). * We offer many a “Betty-ism” and her philosophy about saying “Yes” no matter what! * Our special guest, Andrea Canny, offers first-hand experience meeting the legend and being forever impressed by her kindness and generosity. Here's a link to the book, When Women Invented Television: The Untold Story of the Female Powerhouses Who Pioneered the Way We Watch Today, by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong, on Amazon. More about Andrea: Andrea Canny's 37-year career has spanned through Asia, Europe, and the USA. She also has a solo CD, Cab Fab, and she recorded the role of Sleeping Beauty for the 10th Anniversary recording of Disenchanted that was released worldwide in September 2019. Ms. Canny co-produced the Emmy Award-nominated & Golden Brick Award-winning concert, From Broadway with Love: Orlando, benefiting 3 Orlando LGBTQ organizations after the Pulse tragedy, featuring Broadway stars, as well as From Broadway with Love: Parkland. Andrea has her own Proofreading/Editing business (books, scripts, etc.) and her coaching studio for corporate speakers and private & group coaching in vocal performance & the business of entertainment for performers. Joaquin Pedro Valdes recently appeared in the UK / international productions of “Miss Saigon” & “The King and I,” and “Fanny and Stella,” the first fully staged musical to open in London after the COVID lockdowns. (Bridgerton fans, this show was done at The Garden Theatre at Vauxhall.) A professional theater actor in the Philippines from a young age, he set aside that calling for “more practical” pursuits and took up architecture and then film in college, launching his career as a director. He made films that were screened in festivals worldwide, and also made a name for himself in the industry directing commercials and music videos for nearly a decade. He continued to star in theater productions as a break in between directing jobs, until the lure of the stage proved too strong. He took a leap of faith and decided to pursue theater full-time in the UK, going to head to head with the best performers from around the world. On the pod, he gets candid about the ups and downs of being a professional actor, and how his previous experiences in the Philippines (as a director and actor appearing in theater, film, TV, and radio… and also a recording artist in a boy band) helped prepare him for the international scene. He also shares insights on the future of the performing arts and storytelling in the new normal. This episode is dedicated to anyone who has relocated in pursuit of a calling, and to fellow theater fans. At a time when the arts are being defunded, it's inspiring to see people soldiering on in service of storytelling that nourishes the soul. --- Follow Joaquin on Instagram @joaquinpedrovaldes or on Twitter @jpedrovaldesuk Choice performances from his YouTube channel: 1. Its March 9th, 2021 and It's been just over a year now where this lockdown has forced many to be sidelined from the job they love.  Pivoting for some has come easy, but for others who rely on a packed concert venue or live theatre, it’s been well bad, really bad.   And it’s not just the performers and artists, it has had a ripple affect on all the support staff behind the scenes and upfront as well.    Resolving the future of live venues  in this new reality where rubbing knees with a stranger in a historic theatre with cozy seating seems still far off.  Arts and Culture make any community come alive.  And in the summer a spontaneous dinner before a surprise concert, has to be the best night out.  We miss you restaurants,  theatre and concert staff and Toronto’s Historic Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre is no exception.    Robin Johnston has worked at this theatre as Head of Sound for 5 years and has put in his time as a stagehand for 20.  He deeply misses his job, his second family,  and this magical interior that transforms his tasks  from ordinary to amazing.  I enjoyed speaking to Robin about his craft and his passion for this historic theatre.https://www.heritagetrust.on.ca/en/ewg/ewg-home
