Christians are baptized “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” not the “names” of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Catechism explains this distinction by introducing us to the “central mystery of Christian faith and life”: the Trinity. Fr. Mike slows us down to meditate on what God reveals to us concerning his inner life, the very thing that “many prophets and righteous people longed to see… [and] hear.” Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 232-237. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. Jesus is still saying what He said 2,000 years ago: "Follow Me." And He doesn't mean only on Sundays, but every day. Pastor Greg Laurie shares how we can put Jesus first in our lives and move away from things that pull us down. Notes: Luke 5 Social media is stealing hours you can never get back. The algorithm is designed to capture your attention and never let go- Who or what are you following? You will become like the people you follow. You will reflect their values, or lack thereof. It’s time to follow Jesus. Social media influencers want your attention.Jesus wants your heart. Jesus is here for you.He says, “Follow Me.” The bible challenges you to check on yourself. Are you really a Christian? Or are you just pretending to be one? (2 Corinthians 13:5) Acts 11:26 (NLT)It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians. To call the believers Christians was a mockery. It meant “little Christs.” Matthew 7:22 (NKJV)“Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” Matthew 7:23 (NKJV)And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” John 14:15 (NKJV)If you love Me, keep My commandments. Are you a follower of Jesus Christ? Read Luke 5:27–32 Luke 5:28 (NLT)So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him. Why did Matthew change so quickly? Jesus simply looked at him and said two words, "Follow Me.” Luke 5:31 (NLT)Jesus answered them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor—sick people do.” God will come to us in a way we can understand. To the military man Joshua, Jesus came as a general. To the combative Jacob, He came as a wrestler. To the astrologers, the Wisemen, through a star in the heavens. Psalm 18:25 (NIV)To the faithful you show yourself faithful,to the blameless you show yourself blameless, Psalm 18:26 (NIV)to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. If you are drowning in guilt and shame,Jesus offers you forgiveness and relief. If you feel like you don’t belong,Jesus makes room at His table. God does not turn people away because of who they are.He comes to them because of it. Luke 5:27Later, as Jesus left the town, He saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax collector's booth and said, "Follow Me.” Tax collectors collected exorbitant taxes from each person daily.Often, they skimmed off the top or charged more than was required and pocketed the profit. Matthew was considered a traitor, a turncoat, a backslider, and a collaborator with Rome. The people who put up the biggest fight are often closer than those who don’t fight at all. Jesus knew that Matthew wanted a relationship with God.Jeremiah 29:13 Matthew couldn't bring himself to leave that tax booth and go to Jesus. Most non-Christians say they have never had a Christian explain the gospel clearly. The word used for saw, means to gaze intently upon, to stare, to fix one's eyes constantly upon an object. 1 Peter 2:9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. A people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Matthew bolted at the chance to follow and serve Jesus. “Follow Me” means to walk the same road. Following Jesus is not just something we do on Sunday. Jesus wants to be a part of everything you do and everywhere you go.Romans 13:14 How do we follow Jesus?Through prayer and Bible study. Start the day with the Bible.End the day with the Bible. Joshua 1:8 (NLT)Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. “Follow Me” also means to "Follow with Me," meaning companionship and friendship. Matthew happily jumped at the chance of a lifetime.Luke 5:27 Matthew knew the cost and willingly paid it. An old Scottish preacher called this “The expulsive power of a new affection.” When a person really meets Jesus Christ, they cannot leave the old life fast enough. Matthew lost a career but gained a destiny. He lost his material possessions but gained a spiritual fortune. Matthew was so excited that he decided to throw a party for Jesus.Luke 5:29 Jesus sees you for who you are, and He sees you for who you can be. The Bible says, “Today is the day of salvation.” — Become a Harvest Partner today and join us in knowing God and making Him known through media and large-scale evangelism, our mission of over 30 years. New church plants often begin with vision, faith, and a deep sense of calling—but they also come with real challenges. This devotional reflects on how easy it can be to assume a new church has everything under control, especially when leaders don’t openly ask for help. Over time, good intentions can quietly turn into distance or apathy, even when the need is still very real. The reminder here is simple and important: church planting is never meant to be done alone. God uses many people in different roles—some to plant, some to water—but He alone brings the growth. Even when we don’t know exactly how to get involved, prayer is always a meaningful place to start. Interceding for a church plant, its leaders, and its community is not a passive act; it’s participation in God’s work. This devotional encourages believers to be proactive rather than waiting for an invitation. Support doesn’t always look like finances or formal volunteering. Sometimes it’s faithful prayer, encouragement, or simply staying attentive to what God might be prompting you to do. When we care about what God is building in our communities, we reflect His heart for the Church—and trust Him to bring growth in His timing and His way. Main Takeaways New church plants often need more support than they openly express. God uses many servants, but He alone brings true growth. Prayer is a powerful and practical way to support church leaders and congregations. Believers don’t need to wait for an invitation to care or intercede. God is pleased when we show concern for His work in our local communities. Today’s Bible Verse “What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” - 1 Corinthians 3:5 Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Help me not to become apathetic or turn away from those who need it… Only You can truly give it success.” You can listen to the full prayer here or read the devotional at the links below. Are we truly hungry for God?In Luke 6, Jesus tells us: “Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.” But what kind of hunger is He talking about? In this episode of Catholicism for Catholics, Alison Oertle invites us to reflect on our deepest longings and the gift of the Eucharist, where God makes Himself bread to feed His people. Together, we explore what Scripture says about hunger and thirst for God, from the Psalms to the Prophets, and how those longings are ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life. This teaching walks through:- Biblical hunger and thirst as signs of desire for God- Jesus' Bread of Life discourse in John 6- Why the Eucharist is not symbolic, but truly Jesus Himself- The vulnerability of admitting our need for God- How “false food” can dull our spiritual appetite- An invitation to be healed, renewed, and made hungry againIf you've ever felt spiritually numb, distracted, or unsure of your desire for God, this reflection offers hope, clarity, and a gentle call back to the Lord who alone satisfies.

Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

At the last night of summer camp as a teenager, I felt conspicuous as I stood alone in a group of campers. When one of them mocked me, I felt hurt. I ran back to my tent, pretending to sleep when the group leader checked on me. The next morning I avoided her attempt to talk about it. She later wrote to me, helping me understand that God truly cared for me. She quoted from the apostle Paul: we can be “confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). I felt like the apostle’s words were directed right to me. Paul wrote to the church at Philippi, which he’d planted over a decade earlier, to encourage them to root their love for God and each other “in knowledge and depth of insight” (v. 9). God would carry on His work in and through them as He filled them “with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ” (v. 11). At the time I didn’t understand the original context, but I started to comprehend that my identity as one loved by God came from knowing and accepting the love of Jesus. God desires that we receive His love and that it would abound in us more and more. As He fills us with His joy and peace, we’ll grow in the knowledge not only of Him but of His good work in us.

Homily from the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Do not give away what has real value for counterfeit happiness. There are many idols in our lives that promise the happiness that only God can give. The counterfeits of Wealth, Power, Pleasure, and Fame have taken all that people have and left them with nothing. Jesus gives us a new way to live...that actually leads to authentic happiness. A Prayer to Bear Lasting Fruit in Every Season

    Your Daily Prayer Podcast

Fruit is seasonal—and so are we. This devotional begins with a simple picture of how produce changes depending on the time of year: fresh, vibrant options at a farmer’s market in spring and summer, and a different kind of supply in winter. That rhythm becomes a gentle metaphor for the spiritual life. Jesus calls us to bear fruit that lasts, but what happens when we feel like we’re in a “winter season”—spiritually dry, emotionally worn down, or stuck in a place that feels barren? John 15 reminds us that fruitfulness isn’t ultimately about our effort—it’s about abiding. Jesus is the Vine, and we are the branches. When life feels hard and hope feels thin, the temptation is to fixate on the season itself—how long it’s lasting, how painful it is, and why it won’t change. But the devotional offers a reframing: winter can actually be a time of growth beneath the surface. Just as roots grow deeper during colder months, difficult seasons can strengthen our spiritual foundation if we keep our eyes on Christ and stay connected to Him. The warning is also real: isolation is dangerous in winter. When we disconnect from God’s Word and from other believers, despair can set in, and we become more vulnerable to discouragement. That’s why community matters. The devotional encourages finding “oaks of righteousness”—faithful people who can pray with you, check in, study Scripture alongside you, and help keep you anchored when your own strength feels limited. Sometimes, when you’re struggling to hold onto the Vine, God uses others to help nourish you with encouragement and truth. The hope is this: if you continue to abide in Jesus, fruit will come again. Even if the season doesn’t change quickly, God is still tending you. The Vine-dresser cares for you, chose you, and intends for your life to bear lasting fruit—no matter what season you’re in. Main Takeaways Spiritual life has seasons; “winter” seasons can feel barren but can still be deeply formative. Fruitfulness comes from abiding in Jesus, not striving in your own strength. Winter can be a time for roots to grow deeper—strength that forms beneath the surface. Isolation makes difficult seasons harder; community provides nourishment and encouragement. God is faithful in every season and can produce lasting fruit through your life, even in suffering. Today’s Bible Verse “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” - John 15:16, ESV Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Help me to abide in the Vine… May You use my life to bear lasting fruit in every season, no matter how difficult.” You can listen to the full prayer here or read the devotional at the links below. It's a must-read that every person, religious and non-religious, should buy and peruse every night before bed. It'll make you think harder, pray more ardently, and understand your civilization better." — Ben Shapiro, host of "The Ben Shapiro Show" "Dennis Prager's commentary on Exodus will rank among the greatest modern Torah commentaries. That is how important I think it is. And I am clearly not alone... It might well be on its way to becoming the most widely read Torah commentary of our time—and by non-Jews as well as by Jews." — Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, bestselling author of Jewish Literacy Why do so many people think the Bible, the most influential book in world history, is outdated? Why do our friends and neighbors – and sometimes we ourselves – dismiss the Bible as irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things? This explanation of the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible, will demonstrate that the Bible is not only powerfully relevant to today's issues, but completely consistent with rational thought. Do you think the Bible permitted the trans-Atlantic slave trade? You won't after reading this book. Do you struggle to love your parents? If you do, you need this book. Do you doubt the existence of God because belief in God is “irrational?” This book will give you reason after reason to rethink your doubts. The title of this commentary is, “The Rational Bible” because its approach is entirely reason-based. The reader is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. As Prager says, “If something I write does not make rational sense, I have not done my job.” The Rational Bible is the fruit of Dennis Prager's forty years of teaching the Bible to people of every faith, and no faith. On virtually every page, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world and to your life. His goal: to change your mind – and then change your life.   Highly Recommended by ACU. This explanation of the Book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, demonstrates clearly and powerfully that the opposite is true. The Bible remains profoundly relevant—both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life. It is the greatest moral guide and source of wisdom ever written. Do you doubt the existence of God because you think believing in God is irrational? This book will give you many reasons to rethink your doubts. Do you think faith and science are in conflict? You won't after reading this commentary on Genesis. Do you come from a dysfunctional family? It may comfort you to know that every family discussed in Genesis was highly dysfunctional! The title of this commentary is “The Rational Bible” because its approach is entirely reason-based. The reader is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. In Dennis Prager's words, “If something I write is not rational, I have not done my job.” The Rational Bible is the fruit of Dennis Prager's forty years of teaching the Bible—whose Hebrew grammar and vocabulary he has mastered—to people of every faith and no faith at all. On virtually every page, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world in general and to you personally. His goal: to change your mind—and, as a result, to change your life.   The Rational Bible: Deuteronomy: God, Blessings, and Curses by Dennis Prager Is the Bible, the most influential book in world history, still relevant? Why do people dismiss it as being irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things? This explanation of the Book of Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Bible, will demonstrate how it remains profoundly relevant - both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life. Do you doubt the existence of God because you think believing in God is irrational? This book will cause you to reexamine your doubts. The title of this commentary is The Rational Bible because its approach is entirely reason-based. The listener is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. They explore the importance of transformational experiences and how simple gatherings can lead to deeper connections among men. Key Insights Transformational Experiences: Men often seek meaningful experiences that can lead to personal growth and connection. Frank shares how participating in F3 and Warrior Heart boot camps has profoundly changed his perspective on leadership and relationships. Gathering for Brotherhood: The act of gathering, whether for workouts or casual meet-ups, is crucial for building community. Frank emphasizes that men need spaces where they can connect and share their experiences authentically. Authenticity in Leadership: Leaders should prioritize creating environments where vulnerability is encouraged. This can be achieved by moving away from rigid lesson structures and focusing on genuine interactions. Shifting Perspectives: Frank discusses the importance of recognizing limiting beliefs and perspectives that can hinder personal growth. Leaders should help others see beyond their current views to embrace a broader understanding of their purpose. Simplicity in Engagement: Simple gatherings, such as meeting for hot dogs or casual discussions, can effectively draw men together and foster meaningful conversations, making it easier for them to engage with one another. Leadership Applications Focus on Gathering: Latter-day Saint leaders can prioritize creating informal gatherings that encourage connection among men, such as breakfast meetings or service projects, rather than strictly adhering to lesson plans. Encourage Vulnerability: Leaders should model vulnerability and openness in their interactions, creating a safe space for others to share their thoughts and feelings, which can lead to stronger bonds within the group. Challenge Limiting Beliefs: Leaders can facilitate discussions that help members identify and overcome limiting beliefs, encouraging them to explore their divine potential and purpose within the community. We started out the week with a powerful personal testimony of how God can rescue any life even one that is seemly deep in darkness and despair. On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we shared one woman’s amazing story of finding her hope and faith in Jesus and how to navigate our way through the dark nights that face all of us at one time or another. Parents can not count on the schools as they did in past years. More than ever parents have to be watchful over what their kids are being exposed to in the halls of education as dangerous ideologies and those who support them are actively seeking to indoctrinate kids into followers. We had a very revealing conversation with Janet’s daughter who shared the results of a study of 700 school districts across the country, how school are getting money from outside the U.S. to push radical ideologies and why the president of the NEA is joining a “revolution group” and how that could impact what is taught in the classroom. Artificial Intelligence and its advocates continue commandeering more and more aspects of daily life. We turned to our expert on all things tech to put these changes in biblical perspective for us. He talked to us about the rise of A.I. psychosis, how the implementation of A.I. is damaging or destroying our institutional foundations and whether or not ministries should include the use of A.I. chatbots. Our guest sent out a warning call to Christian parents as he exposed how young believers are turning away from their faith as a result of what they are learning and who they are learning it from in college. He encouraged parents to start early building resilience in their kids to face both the subtle and direct challenges to their faith and how to come out this experience with their walk still intact. Janet and Craig once again invite you to join them for another important exploration of the headlines of the week as they expose them to the unflinching sunlight of God’s truth.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we peeled back the often “over our heads” language of theology to get down to the basics of how the simple, clear, classic gospel message is the key to changing the downward slide of society that we see happening all around us. Our guest reminded us that God’s message of hope is still as powerful and life transforming as it has ever been. The horrors of the Holocaust must never be forgotten and in the light of the rise of antisemitic hatred we are seeing in the world today, believers must now more than ever stand with God’s chosen people. Our guest shared how the horrors of the Holocaust impacted his own family, why we are seeing so much hatred toward Jews today and why antisemitism is one of the keys that lead to the return of the Messiah. We talked to one our favorite advocates for the unborn to get his take on last week’s March for Life in Washington D.C. and why he says this was a significant march. He also updated us on what’s going on with the Pregnant Students Rights Act. Then we turned our eyes to the Middle East and got an update from a man who has made his life’s service sharing the hope of gospel to the people in the Middle East. He talked to us about the current climate on Jewish hatred that we are seeing around the world and gave a warning directly from the Old Testament about what happened to people groups who cursed Israel. He also shared more stories of God drawing people to him in both Iran and Israel. What do you do when you have tried everything and your marriage is still on the rocks and sinking fast? Our guest combined his own marital experiences along with his professional training as a therapist to share what he calls “lightbulb moments” and how these special breakthroughs can be the key to the rescuing and restoring marriages. The year may be new, but the challenges remain the same. That is why more than ever we need to understand how to stand up for our families and our communities by standing firmly on the truth of God’s word. Join us for another educational exploration of the headlines through the lens of scripture.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My coworker made a quick call to discuss an issue. She asked how I was doing, and I admitted that I had a really bad headache. I had a painful sinus infection, and the medicine wasn’t working. My coworker simply asked, “May I pray for you?” After I agreed, she offered a thirty-second prayer to God for my healing. I admitted, “Sometimes I forget to pray. I was so focused on the pain, I didn’t turn to God.” My confession made me think about where I place my focus—on my struggles and problems or on God. On this day, my thoughts centered on the pain because of its intensity. But Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that when we keep our minds focused on God, our healer and sustainer, we can find peace: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” While the pain may not go away instantly, or perhaps ever in this life, the prophet reminds us to place our “trust in” the one who is faithful and able to provide what we need (v. 4). This passage from Isaiah pointed the Israelites to God’s promises during and after their exile. They would sing songs of praise to Him again as they clung to their faith and hope in what He would provide (vv. 1-2). And the prophet’s words also remind us that whatever pain we may endure, we too can find comfort as we focus on trusting in God and calling out to Him.

Mike Slater examines the stark contrast between worldly justice systems—often flawed by human bias, political agendas, and incomplete accountability—and God's perfect, eternal judgment that weighs the heart and ultimate truth. Drawing from biblical principles and current events, the discussion highlights how earthly courts and policies can fail to deliver true righteousness, leaving believers anxious amid injustice, while divine judgment promises impartiality, mercy for the repentant, and accountability for all. Listeners are encouraged to find peace not in relying on fallible human institutions, but in trusting God's sovereign authority over every ruler, law, and outcome. This is part one of two.
