Sujo John: Surviving 9/11, Finding Purpose, and Living the Gospel Out LoudIn this week's Team Never Quit Podcast, Marcus and Melanie meet with Sujo John, who, on the morning of September 11, 2001, went to work on the 81st floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center carrying a question that had been weighing heavily on his heart: What is my purpose?Just months earlier, Sujo and his wife, Mary, had moved from India to begin a new life in America. They were expecting their first child, building successful careers, and seemingly living the American dream. Sujo worked in the North Tower of the World Trade Center, while Mary worked on the 71st floor of the South Tower.Yet despite everything going well, Sujo felt an unmistakable emptiness. He believed God had a greater calling on his life but had no idea what that calling would look like.At 8:05 a.m. on September 11, Sujo sent an email to a friend at church describing his search for meaning and purpose.Less than an hour later, everything changed.American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the North Tower. Sujo's office filled with smoke, fire, shattered debris, and chaos. As terrified employees searched for a way out, Sujo began the long descent down the stairwell, surrounded by hundreds of people trying to escape—and firefighters and police officers heading in the opposite direction toward the devastation. All the while, Sujo could think of only one person: Mary. He had no way of knowing whether she was alive. After escaping Tower 1, Sujo began making his way toward Tower 2 to find her. Then the unimaginable happened. The South Tower collapsed. Standing near the base of the building, Sujo found himself surrounded by people as the massive structure came crashing down around them. In those terrifying moments, he began praying and felt compelled to tell the people nearby to call on the name of Jesus.Soon, voices around him were crying out, "Jesus!" When the dust settled, Sujo found himself buried in several feet of white soot and broken glass—but alive. Through the darkness and debris, he encountered a man lying face down who had a flashlight. Sujo encouraged him to get up and keep moving. When the man stood, Sujo noticed the letters FBI on his jacket.Together, the two men held hands and walked through the near-zero visibility until they spotted the flashing lights of an ambulance and eventually found their way to safety. But Sujo still didn't know whether Mary had survived. Then his phone rang. It was Mary.In an extraordinary turn of events, her train had arrived at the World Trade Center subway station just minutes after the first plane struck. She had never made it inside Tower 2. Both had survived.Standing together later that day and looking back at the smoking ruins of the buildings where they had worked, Sujo and Mary realized that the promises they had separately made to God during those terrifying hours would define the rest of their lives. They would dedicate themselves completely to Him.From Survival to CallingSeptember 11 became the defining turning point in Sujo John's life. What began that morning as a search for purpose became a calling to share the Gospel around the world. Sujo and Mary devoted their lives to ministry, sharing their testimony in churches throughout America and internationally.Their ministry also developed a deep commitment to helping people who are often overlooked and forgotten, including women and girls rescued from the sex industry in India through the House of Rahab. For Sujo, surviving 9/11 was never simply about being given another day to live. It was about being given another opportunity to live with purpose. And his message to Christians today is challenging:The Gospel was never intended to remain inside church walls.Believers are called to make their faith visible—to serve their communities, invest in the next generation, and become the hands and feet of Jesus to the people around them.In This EpisodeSujo shares the extraordinary story of escaping the World Trade Center on September 11, the desperate search for his wife, the prayers that rose from the rubble, and the miraculous phone call revealing that Mary was alive. He also discusses the deeper story behind that day—his lifelong questions about suffering, his search for purpose, and the calling that emerged from one of the darkest moments in American history. This conversation is ultimately about more than survival. It's about purpose. It's about faith when life stops making sense. And it's about what happens when someone decides that the life they've been given will be spent serving something greater than themselves.Support Sujo:-  IG:  https://www.instagram.com/sujojohnofficial?igsi=MW5ibmVidGJkd3N0Zg==Sujo John - https://sujojohn.com/YouCanFreeUs - https://youcanfreeus.org/ I Am Second Story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CryxwzBuldcSupport TNQ  - IG: team_neverquit , marcusluttrell , melanieluttrell , huntero13  -  https://www.patreon.com/teamneverquitSponsors:  - Navyfederal.org     - Dripdrop.com/TNQ- vinted.com/TNQ - davidprotein.com/TNQ- quo.com/TNQ  - mengotomars.com [Team Never Quit]  - bubsnaturals.com [Promo code TNQ]  - mizzenandmain.com   [Promo code: TNQ20]   - masterclass.com/TNQ  - ShopMando.com [Promo code: TNQ]  - Tractorsupply.com/hometownheroes  - meetfabiric.com/TNQ  - Prizepicks (TNQ)   - armslist.com/TNQ   -  PXGapparel.com/TNQ  - bruntworkwear.com/TNQ   - shipsticks.com/TNQ   - stopboxusa.com {TNQ}   - Tonal.com [TNQ]  - greenlight.com/TNQ  - drinkAG1.com/TNQ  - Hims.com/TNQ

We know the reasons to be grateful. We know we have the Lord. And still, circumstantial burdens seem to block the joy we are reaching for. Psalm 90:14 expresses the longing precisely: satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. The answer to blocked joy, it turns out, is not a change of circumstances — it is a change of heart. Continuing to cry out to God for joy, casting every anxiety on Him, trusting that He hears the righteous when they call — these practices create the conditions for something remarkable to happen. Not an improved situation, but a shifted soul. Weeping may last through the night, Psalm 30:5 promises, but joy comes with the morning. Keep asking. Be expectant not of a shift in circumstances but of a shift in spirit. God has done it before, and He will faithfully do it again. Bible Verse "Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days."— Psalm 90:14, BSB Ponder Today Blocked joy is not the same as absent faith. Knowing all the reasons to be grateful and still feeling weighed down by burdens is a deeply human experience. Bringing that honest tension to God rather than hiding it is the right and faithful response. Joy is restored through a change of heart, not a change of circumstances. God's answer to a prayer for joy rarely arrives in the form of improved situations. It arrives as a shift in perspective, a softening of the heart, and a fresh awareness of His goodness already present. Keep praying for joy even when it feels far away. The consistent, persistent cry for gladness is itself an act of faith. God hears the righteous when they call, and He delivers. He has done it before and He will do it again. Cast every anxiety on Him, because He cares. First Peter 5:7 is not a suggestion for the big things only. Every unsettling circumstance, every sorrow, every fear about what a new season will feel like — all of it belongs in His hands. Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. Psalm 30:5 does not promise a short night. It promises that the night ends. Be expectant — not of a shift in what surrounds you, but of a shift in your soul and spirit as God faithfully fills what feels empty. A Prayer for You Today Father God, I long to feel Your joy every day. Truly, I have every reason to be full of gladness in You, yet too often the world weighs me down. Unsettling circumstances and sorrowful situations surround me, and I let them overshadow the goodness You give. Help me fix my eyes on You every morning. Help me keep praying for eyes to see You and Your abounding blessings throughout my day, so that regardless of the sadness I feel or the difficulty I face, above all, my heart will see and be full of You. You are where I find my joy, and You are always with me. Thank You, Jesus. Amen. Man is a storytelling animal, and conveying the experience of the human condition in poetry and prose helps us understand and contend with it. That's true in all times and places, and it is why students of a society and its culture have much to learn from its poets. Contemporary Israel is one of the most interesting societies anywhere on earth, and its poets encompass the depth of its culture—God and man, the inescapability of war, human vices large and small. Today, we take a peek into their work. Making this possible is Michael Weingrad, a scholar of modern Hebrew and Jewish literature who is on the faculty of Hillsdale College, where he is helping to build a new undergraduate program in Judaism and Western Civilization. Weingrad recently founded an online publication, the New Jerusalem Review, where he publishes his translations of contemporary Hebrew verse into English. Today, he sat down with Jonathan Silver, the host of the Tikvah podcast and the editor of Mosaic, to introduce some of the most revealing selections from some of his favorite writers. The subject is important not only because of the intrinsic value of poetry, but also because anglophone literary culture has grown hostile to Israeli and Jewish writers, especially since October 7, and the poems Weingrad translates are not the safe, well-behaved kind of poetry that makes its way into the standard anthologies. They come out of a Hebrew-language literary world that most American readers, Jewish or Gentile, have almost no access to—a world that includes religious and secular, skeptics of multilateral summits and peace processes, and even conservatives. This episode of The Tikvah Podcast is generously sponsored by Dr. Kenneth Weiss in memory of his father, Eliezer Lipa ben Uri. The account of Esther, the Jewish orphan who becomes the queen of Persia, is neither a Cinderella story, nor a how-to guide for righteousness. It does, however, give us a picture of the God who graciously uses broken people to achieve His glorious ends and fulfill His covenant promises. The names that the two Jewish characters operate under, Esther and Mordecai, are names that actually give honor to Persian gods. The book reflects how they operate under this saturation of Persian culture by mentioning the Persian king 190 times while God is never mentioned. On today's episode we meet Esther, Mordecai, King and Ahaseurus, and the self-righteous enemy of God's people: Haman. Esther 1 - 1:13 . Esther 2 - 6:27 . Esther 3 - 12:45 . Esther 4 - 16:49 . In this episode, we look at the Bible to answer the question both “trad wives” and feminists are attempting to answer: what is the purpose of a woman? We'll see how both ends of the spectrum turn into fundamentalism, and how Scripture points us to a better and more practical understanding. In this episode, we examine:- the way current American culture defines the terms, “trad wife” and “feminist”- historical roles of women in America, going back to the 1700s- how the two viewpoints provoke one another and impact culture- what the primary purpose of a Christian person is according to Scripture- how to consider the purpose God has called you to in your current seasonIf you're looking for clarity amidst the arguments of both sides and wondering what God says about your calling as a woman, this episode is for you.Shop our verse-by-verse studies, books, and family discipleship resources ⦿ Every Woman a Theologian Shop:https://phyliciamasonheimer.com/shopSubscribe to Verity Podcast:https://apple.co/veritypodcastVerity Podcast is an Every Woman a Theologian company. Elijah's story is filled with dramatic miracles, courageous faith, and unforgettable moments. But if you look a little closer, you'll find someone who isn't all that different from you! He knew fear. He experienced exhaustion. He wrestled with discouragement. And in between the extraordinary moments, there were long seasons of ordinary, faithful obedience. So in this first episode of the Jennifer Rothschild Show, best-selling author Max Lucado joins me to explore what Elijah's life can teach us about facing fear with faith, praying boldly, and trusting God through both the extraordinary and the ordinary. You'll discover what courage really is (and what it isn't), why the power of prayer has always been in the God who hears us—not the one who prays—and how to live with an expectation of divine disruption while faithfully serving God in the everyday. Because the same God who strengthened Elijah is faithful to strengthen you too… no matter what season you're in! *** LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Unbreakable Courage: Strong Faith in an Age of Anxiety, Chaos, and Exhaustion by Max Lucado Listen to other podcast episodes with Max Lucado on taming your thoughts or finding happiness RELATED EPISODES Can I Overcome Fear With Faith? Our lives are divine gifts—but they don’t always feel like that. It’s often marked with sorrow, disappointment, and heartache. So, how do we embrace or follow the biblical charge to give thanks in all things? Stu Epperson invites us into the beauty and joy found in life shaped by thanksgiving. We can give thanks in all things—because God is present in all things. Even in lack, we are not empty. Even when life feels uncertain, God is proven and trustworthy. In this special, no-news edition of The A.M. Update, Aaron McIntire sits down with Jimmy Moon, a father from Sacramento, California, for one of the most powerful testimonies he's ever heard. Jimmy opens up about the terrifying early hospitalization of his daughter, now three years old, and the promise he made to God in the midst of that trial. He also shares his personal journey through suicidal ideation as a young man, and how that experience later led him to found a small local ministry that places highlighted scripture references into donated Bibles for others walking through similar struggles. Aaron reflects on why stories like Jimmy's matter, especially for those who follow the news closely enough to feel worn down by it. This episode is a reminder that God is still at work, even when the headlines tempt us to believe otherwise.

Some weeks the news makes it impossible to look away. This is one of those weeks. Mia sets aside her pre-recorded episodes to talk about what happens to our hearts when we watch society celebrate something that is clearly evil, and what we are actually supposed to do about it.   This is not a hot take. It is not an opinion episode. It is an honest conversation about staying tender when everything around you is pushing you toward a hard, cold heart, and about why prayer is the real battleground when the comment section feels like the only option. Mia talks about guarding what you let into your spirit, why children and mothers are under such heavy attack right now, and how to stay on mission when the world feels like it is unraveling. The episode closes with a full prayer over babies, over children, and over mothers who are struggling in the dark. If you have been carrying grief, anger, or numbness this week, this one is for you.   Timestamps Time Topic 00:01 Welcome, and why this episode replaced the ones already recorded 00:54 What moments like this reveal about our collective moral compass 01:22 The Bible told us this was coming: evil called good, people loving themselves 02:18 Why this is not an opinion episode 02:47 Protecting those who cannot defend themselves 03:12 Philippians 4:8 and guarding what you scroll past 03:39 Knowing your limits: why Mia will not go down certain rabbit holes 04:36 Staying sensitive to evil without being consumed by it 05:06 When society celebrates evil, and how God still uses it to draw people in 06:18 Why people run toward God after seeing evil 06:49 Pray for the children. Pray for the mothers. 07:18 The real danger for believers: a hardened heart 08:17 Those sweet lives are with Jesus, and there is still a way home 08:45 Becoming your own moral compass 09:11 How a culture of self spills over into how we treat children 10:40 The movement of agreement is more alarming than the act 11:35 Why we cannot argue anyone into seeing it, but we can pray 12:04 Why the enemy targets the smallest and purest among us 13:00 The response is not more hate. The response is prayer. 13:29 If you are on the other side of this, here is the invitation 14:23 You cannot hold the Holy Spirit and celebrate evil at the same time 14:52 Praying over mothers, and what to do about intrusive voices 16:14 Righteous anger, and where to aim it 17:14 What Mia does not claim to know, and what she does know 17:40 There is always a way out, and we still get to choose 18:38 Nobody is too far gone 19:32 How a hardened heart quietly kills your prayer life 20:02 Leading well from whatever platform you have 21:00 Gather your people and pray 22:27 Fight in prayer instead of fighting in the comments 22:56 Full prayer over babies, children, and mothers 25:19 Closing encouragement and what is coming next   Scriptures Referenced Quoted directly Philippians 4:8 (03:12) - Whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable, think on these things. Mia's filter for what she lets into her feed and her spirit.   Referenced and paraphrased throughout Isaiah 5:20 (01:22, 22:27) - Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (01:22, 08:45) - In the last days people will be lovers of themselves, proud, without natural affection. John 10:10 (03:39, 12:04, 26:17) - The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus came so we could have life, and have it abundantly. Romans 3:23 (13:29) - All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 (13:29) - The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (13:55) - Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (17:40) - God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but will provide a way out. Romans 10:13 (19:02) - Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 1 Kings 19:11-12 (19:02) - The still small voice. James 4:7 (14:52, 16:14) - Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Philippians 2:9-11 (15:22) - At the name of Jesus every knee will bow. Ephesians 6:12 (13:00, 19:32) - Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. Philippians 4:6-7 (24:21) - The peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Luke 12:7 (26:17) - Even the hairs on your head are numbered. Psalm 139:13-16 (26:17) - You knit me together in my mother's womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. You are not a mistake.   Call to Action Summary 1. Guard your heart and your feed. Do not consume every piece of evil available to you. You cannot unsee what you see, and a spirit worn down by images of harm is not a spirit ready to do what God called you to do. Use Philippians 4:8 as a filter.   2. Refuse the hardened heart. The temptation right now is to go cold, write off society, and stop caring. That is the loss. A soft heart is what keeps you praying, and a hardened heart is what quietly ends your prayer life.   3. Go to battle in prayer, not in the comment section. Pray protection over babies and children, in the womb and out of it. Pray over mothers, including mothers who are pregnant, overwhelmed, or walking through postpartum depression. Pray that they hear God's voice instead of the enemy's. If you know a mother in that place, tell her to call on the name of Jesus, and pray over her yourself.   4. If you are far from God, come back. Nobody is too far gone. Open your Bible. Get into a church. Read what God says about how He feels about children, and about you. It is not too late to get right with Him. Gather your people. Whatever your circle is, family, team, small group, business, bring them together and pray over the children and the mothers out loud.

What is happening to American women? In this episode of Conversations That Matter, Jon Harris sits down with Bethany Miller to discuss the Lindsay Clancy case, toxic empathy, social media, the radicalization of Gen Z, and the growing divide between young men and women. The conversation begins with the surprising public response to the Lindsay Clancy trial and asks a larger question: Why are so many people responding to serious moral questions through identification, victimhood, and emotional narratives rather than evidence and accountability?Bethany explains how TikTok, Instagram, entertainment, and online communities can reinforce these narratives by rewarding emotional identification and simplifying complicated questions. The discussion then broadens to the way our culture has learned to humanize villains, tear down heroes, and increasingly interpret reality through ideological and online communities. But the conversation does not stop with women.Jon and Bethany also discuss the radicalization of some young men, the manosphere, political resentment, dating expectations, and the difficulty Gen Z faces in forming healthy relationships. Both sides of the political spectrum can fall into the same trap: taking legitimate frustrations and allowing them to become an excuse for bitterness, isolation, or extremism. The episode ultimately turns toward a more constructive question: How can young men and women actually build healthy marriages and families? That means having difficult conversations while dating, looking for character and resilience rather than simply checking boxes, staying grounded in reality, and refusing to let the internet define the opposite sex for us. The conversation also considers the importance of fathers, family formation, and God's providence. This is a conversation about women, men, social media, dating, family, politics, and the cultural forces shaping the next generation.#GenZ #Dating #Christianity #Culture #ToxicEmpathy00:00 — What Happened to Gen Z Women?01:30 — From Theology to Politics and Media04:00 — The Lindsay Clancy Case06:00 — How TikTok Created a Narrative13:00 — Toxic Empathy and Victimhood17:00 — Why We Humanize Villains20:30 — The Radicalization of Young Men and Women28:30 — The Gen Z Dating Crisis46:30 — Providence, Marriage, and Finding Reality52:00 — Fathers, Family, and Raising Resilient ChildrenSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/conversations-that-matter8971/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Scriptural references and personal stories fuel a wide-ranging exchange on receiving Communion with the right preparation, the impact of Church history on faith, and facing challenges from Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons at the door. Those conversations stretch from investigating the label “Roman Catholic” to untangling misunderstandings about the sacraments, all while encouraging listeners to keep pursuing clarity and reverence in their faith journey. Kip (email) - As a cradle Catholic who has always knelt in reverence after the Lamb of God, I was so disturbed by the complete lack of kneeling and overall irreverence during the Liturgy of the Eucharist at a new parish I tried yesterday that it felt like a Protestant service and has left me convinced such practices are eroding belief in Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist and leading the flock astray. She got to her sister's apartment right behind the paramedics. She prayed with more faith than she had ever felt in her life, and the miracle didn't come. Bethany Wohrle kept leading worship anyway. Then she opened a note on her phone, wrote down every angry, honest thing she was feeling, and that note became the bridge of a song. Inside: Josh Baldwin's yellow light analogy that changed how she leads a room, the older man who could only lift his hands to his shoulders and felt God for the first time, and how she tells whether what she is carrying on stage is for her or for the congregation. Ask him if God still spoke, and he'd tell you about the Bat Kol.ABOUT THIS EPISODE:Josh, Michael and Michael explore the biblical case that prophecy operates at more than one level of authority. Scripture itself is uniquely inspired, infallible, and authoritative, while other genuine prophetic revelation can still occur without becoming Scripture. To explore this more, we turn to rabbinic Judaism and the fascinating concept of the Bat Kol.Bat Kol means "daughter of a voice." It's rabbinic Judaism's term for a diminished echo of prophecy that kept showing up long after the age of the biblical prophets. This historical evidence suggests that the idea of genuine, non-canonical revelation was not foreign to ancient Jewish thought and may provide important historical support for the continuity view of prophecy. This week, Jake and Bob welcome John Edwards (Just a Guy in the Pew) back to the show to continue his story of conversion and the long journey of healing that followed. John opens up about what happened after his powerful encounter with Christ in a jail cell, including the hard work of rebuilding trust with his wife and children, learning to be vulnerable, and surrendering control. He also talks about the struggle to reconcile with himself, especially the self-hatred and false identities that can remain even after receiving forgiveness from God and others. Through his story, John reminds us that conversion and healing is not a one-time event, but an ongoing invitation to allow Christ to transform every part of our lives.    Key Points: Radical conversion does not instantly repair the relationships damaged over years of destructive behavior. Simply stopping addictive behaviors is many times not enough for complete healing. This is because deeper wounds like selfishness and self-focus also need to be healed. Life is not ultimately about ourselves but about loving and serving the people God had entrusted to us. Self-reliance, control, and selfishness are not merely struggles unique to addicts but can quietly affect the lives of many people. Vulnerability is not weakness but an act of courage that allows a person to acknowledge the truth about himself and receive help. Reconciliation reveals God not as an angry judge waiting to punish us but as a loving Father who desires our good and wants to walk with us. The reconciliation of our relationships requires us to examine our own responsibility rather than waiting for other people to change. Reconciling with ourselves requires confronting the lies that attack our identity and continually renewing our minds with the truth of who God says we are. Self-forgiveness is essential because refusing to receive God's forgiveness for ourselves can keep us bound to the identity of our past. Something strange is happening in America. I'm actually starting to agree with Bill Maher. Communism gave the world bread lines, gulags, and the deaths of millions, and yet it's becoming attractive to young people all over again. Before we roll our eyes and say these kids just don't know history, I want to ask a better question: why are they still reaching for it? In this episode I dig into what young people are really longing for, why the promises of socialism sound so compassionate, and why Christianity offers something far better than either greedy capitalism or government confiscation. Here's the heart of it: communism tries to build a better society by redistributing possessions, but God builds a better people by transforming hearts. Nobody has to seize a Christian's property to make him generous. I'll leave you with one action step to try with a young person in your life this week. Give it a listen, and God bless you. Patrick answers questions from callers wrestling with faith differences in marriage, the boundaries of attending non-Catholic services, and Catholic teachings on prayer and the Mass. Humor and warmth cut through discussions of Adventist-Catholic divisions, the meaning of church bells, and why prayers matter even when God already knows the outcome. Jane - Husband grew up 7th Day Adventist and still attends, and he wants me to go with. Is that okay, since he also goes with me to Mass on Sunday? (00:32) Chuck - I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and every test I kept hearing the Keep Going guy and Jesus I trust in You. (14:42) Diane - Is it okay for the priest not to say the Gloria and Creed in daily masses and is that the same for the weekend masses? (19:56) Anne - Can loved ones who have died see what we are going through? Should we pray for or to them for intercession? (22:28) Jesus - I think you could also say 'Sigue Adelante' for Spanish translation of Keep Going! (28:51) Kathy - We had 7th Day Adventists who were the nicest neighbors. We need to get to know the individual. We shouldn’t discourage the woman from attending her husband’s church. (31:23) Pat - If a bishop is going against canon law, does the priest still have an obligation to obey him? (33:11) Andrew - I was asked to play at a Lutheran Church. I'm Catholic, so would that be scandalous? (40:55) Elly - Why do the Church bells ring? (45:29) Dan - I know God answers in his own time, but I wonder if God is going to do what he wants to do anyway, why should we keep praying? (48:03) Originally Aired on 07-17-2026
