September 30, 2025 Today's Reading: 1 Timothy 6:6-19Daily Lectionary: Deuteronomy 1:37-2:15; Matthew 6:1-15 “But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” (1 Timothy 6:6-10) In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Money has no more character. It cannot be good or evil. It makes no choices. It cannot be tempted. Money cannot be righteous either. It simply is. Like so many things in creation, money is a First Article gift that we abuse. Money provides us with a way to trade toil for goods. Since the fall, we have eaten only by the sweat of our brows. I can break the ground myself and raise grain to make bread. I can also labor for someone else, trading my sweat for money and my money for bread. Greed for selfish gain, the love of money, brings about all manner of evil. St. Paul offers this warning under the Seventh Commandent. We should not look to defraud or deprive our neighbor, but help them keep and improve what is theirs. God's Word here serves to turn us from our selfish sins. Instead, He would have us dwell in contentment. It's not a contentment we generate from within. This is a contentment given to us by the Gospel. In Jesus, our Lord, we have received forgiveness in water, Word, and the Body and Blood of Jesus. Our Lord's generosity flies in the face of our greedy desires. What use are small things like money? We have a treasure stored up in the heavens. Jesus has forgiven our debt and continually refreshes us in that forgiveness. Not only that, but He also sent us the Holy Ghost, bringing the Third Article Gift of faith. Through Him, we receive the very thing that clings to this forgiveness. The Holy Spirit continues to gather us together as a church to hear and receive. We have received the goods from His hand, forgiveness by His blood, and faith itself to trust this promise. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. O God, our Father, You have graciously given us all that we need for this Earthly life. Guide our hearts into contentment for our temporal gifts and exceeding joy over the eternal gifts of salvation and eternal life by the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ, our Lord, in whose name we pray. LYING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 5:1-11) Let me begin by saying that, as a follower of Christ, the Holy Spirit is your very best friend, and the Holy Spirit is Jesus in you.  He is the one who makes manifest the life of the Lord Jesus in your mortal flesh. What a wonderful, wonderful, friend the Holy Spirit is. In the passage of Scripture that I'm going to read to you today, we find a phrase about lying to the Holy Ghost.  Let me say this, all lies are serious.  Let me repeat that, all lies are serious.  Sometimes we tell little lies, we exaggerate a little bit, and we think that is not quite so serious.  For example, men, when your wife asks you if an outfit makes her look fat, do you tell the truth?  Of course, you do. Some lies we think are whimsical and maybe even humorous. But, a lie is a very serious thing.  The Bible tells us that Jesus is known as the truth.  On the other hand, the Bible tells us that Satan is the father of all lies.  Therefore, when you tell the truth you give God an opportunity to work. When you tell a lie, you tell a lie because Satan has already been working in you. God detests the sin of hypocrisy, the sin of pretense, the sin of saying we are one thing, but really being another. If you read about the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will find out that Jesus reserved his sternest words for hypocrites. There was one thing that Jesus Christ detested, and it was hypocrisy.  Let me make four observations, and four pleas with you today.  Number one, if you are a child of God that sins among the saints it is more serious than sin among the lost.  And, sin when God is working in revival power, is the most dangerous of all sin.  Number two, is that sin against the Holy Spirit is extremely serious. Do not tempt the Holy Spirit of God. Do not be a pretender.  Number three, I urge you to be on guard against hypocrisy in your own life. It is far better not to be what you ought to be than to pretend that you are what you are not. Preachers, and teachers, are often tempted to do that, to exaggerate, or to pretend devotion because we think that we are setting the example. In my estimation, I want my pastor, and my teacher, just to be honest and to tell it like it is in his heart. And, I want people to be honest. And, I believe when there is a spirit of honesty, even though there is a spirit of failure, God can work.  Don't pretend a devotion to Jesus Christ that you don't have.  Don't lie to the Holy Ghost. Learn the six things that will naturally happen when you are filled with the Holy Ghost

Born again of water and Spirit, we are called to live in victory, not condemnation, clothed in Christ's righteousness and empowered by the Holy Ghost. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to pull down every stronghold.

Rev. Denochy Cowan of New Life Pentecostal Church (Spring Valley, NY – UPCI) preaches from Jeremiah 29:1–11, Psalm 23:4, Romans 6:23, Jonah 1:1–4, Acts 1:7–8, and Acts 2:1–4. He reminds us that captivity, valleys, and trials are not always the work of the devil, but part of God's plan to bring increase and peace. Through the “conjunctions” of Scripture—but God, and suddenly—the Lord interrupts our direction, delivers us from sin, and fills us with the Holy Ghost. The message calls believers to repentance, Spirit-empowered living, and radical worship rooted in gratitude for God's mercy and expected end.

Euclide Mugisho preaches from Romans 14:17, Galatians 2:20, Colossians 1:11–13, Philippians 4:4–8, and John 15:5, declaring that the Kingdom of God is not about material things but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. The believer is called to live in the Kingdom of Light, leaving behind the ways of darkness. True life in Christ is marked by forgiveness, purity, and rejoicing in the Lord every day. We are crucified with Christ, alive in Him, and empowered by the Spirit to walk in freedom, love, and holiness.

Continuing our exploration of godly femininity in the marriage relationship, we work out some of the dimensions of submission. Its religious nature lies in its being an expression of a godly woman's relationship to the Lord; its broad extent is wide-ranging but not absolute. It could be distorted or perverted in an unrighteous abnegation and effacement, or in a sinful domination and manipulation.
