If you're tired of one-size-fits-all advice when it comes to our wardrobes and modesty and you're ready for a refreshing conversation and a mindset shift around the way we dress daily, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: What “Worthy of Wearing” means Why it was important for Nicole to create a book that featured photos of real women wearing their own clothing What Nicole's journey of self-worth has looked like How Nicole's daughter inspired her to dress in a way that honors her own dignity and belovedness What modesty means in our daily lives as Catholic women Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Get your own copy of “Worthy of Wearing” Follow Nicole and Worthy of Wearing on Instagram Check out Nicole's website and the Worthy of Wearing website, too! Do you ever feel like no matter how much “work” you do on yourself, you still wind up stuck in the same patterns? Maybe you’ve read all the books, attended countless therapy sessions and done a lot of introspection — and I mean, a LOT — but the changes you want to make just aren’t happening. Maybe you feel like you know all the answers, but you can’t get out of the start and stop cycle you’re caught up in. If you’ve ever felt this way… you’re not alone. In this episode I’m joined by Dr. Nicole LePera, author, psychologist, and creator of the popular Instagram account @the.holistic.psychologist, where she shares her journey of inner healing and how we can all start to make real change in our lives. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. She wanted more for her patients—and herself— so she began developing a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health that equips people with the tools necessary to heal themselves. She shares the life-changing results she discovered along her holistic psychology journey to nearly 4 million “self-healers” on Instagram, through her programs and with her new book “How to Do the Work”. In this episode you’ll hear: Why Nicole made the shift from being a therapist to creating her own protocol for healing [1:09] The first steps for taking action to stop living life on repeat [3:34] What she means when she says that we need to truly embody change for it to work [5:51] What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and why it’s so important to be aware of how our feelings live in our bodies [7:39] What’s really happening with our feelings when we’re overwhelmed [15:13] How we can start to use breathwork and other techniques to reconnect with ourselves and make sustainable changes in our lives [17:41] The impact of not being fully authentic and honest with our own self, and Nicole’s personal journey demonstrating this [33:19] Why putting yourself out there and presenting yourself to the world as an entrepreneur can bring up so many emotions [36:35] What to keep in mind about feedback and subjective interpretations of our work [38:58] How Nicole started considering herself and not just others, and the way this helped her healing process [45:22] Read the show notes: https://www.melyssagriffin.com/nicole-lapera-107 Nicole’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.holistic.psychologist/ Nicole’s Self-Healers Guide: https://yourholisticpsychologist.com/waitlist/ Nicole’s Book: https://yourholisticpsychologist.com/book/ Nicole's Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtEWTaMjqOH8J1Gy06Ey0Yg Nicole's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/the.holistic.psychologist/ Nicole’s Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/selfhealers-soundboard/id1564136756

Your Parenting Mojo - Respectful, research-based parenting ideas to help kids thrive
"You're doing it wrong! You're not asking for consent before changing the diaper!" In this Sharing Your Parenting Mojo episode we meet parent Nicole, who has core values related to being empathic, constantly learning, and upholding justice in the world. These awesome values came together in a difficult way when Nicole became a parent: she had a deep fear of not getting parenting right, so she was constantly reading and trying to find that one piece of information that would close the gap between her struggles and the kind of parent she wanted to be. The stress of parenting an infant brought out a controlling side of her where she attempted to script every aspect of her (and her husband's) interactions with her child, thinking they had already screwed up parenting because he hadn't asked their child's consent before changing her diaper. Nicole was raised by a single parent who had had a traumatic upbringing, and Nicole grew up sometimes feeling scared by her mother's oversized reactions to normal childhood behavior. She knew she wanted more for her children - but didn't know what to do. Over the last year she's been working on 'reparenting' herself so she doesn't have to parent from a place of fear any more, and can relax into understanding her children's feelings - and her own and her partner's feelings as well. Nicole Clark is the Co-Founder and CEO of Trellis, a state trial court legal research and analytics platform with AI-based insights on judges, opposing counsel, motions, dockets, and legal issues. They make state trial court data searchable and analyze it to give law firms insights into the way judges are ruling. Legal teams are able to "Google" search state trial court records and uncover key intelligence on opposing counsel, motions, rulings, dockets and other legal issues. Prior to founding Trellis, Nicole Clark was a business litigation and labor and employment attorney who handled litigation in both state and federal courts. She regularly represented multinational corporations in claims ranging from high-profile trade secret disputes to complex class-action litigation. Frustrated by sending internal emails and collecting anecdotes on judges in order to make strategic case recommendations, she built Trellis to solve her own need for access to data, information, and analytics at the state trial court level. Prior to law school, Nicole attended Bard College, beginning her college coursework at the age of sixteen. She graduated with honors from University of Massachusetts Amherst with a BA in Journalism, and received her Juris Doctorate from Rutgers School of Law in Newark, NJ. In July of 2020, Nicole published A Life Suspended: A Mother and Son’s Story of Autism, Extinction Bursts, and Living a Resilient Life. “You don't have to be a celebrity or a mega influencer to take action and host an event. A hundred people or a thousand people don’t have to attend. It can be five people. That impact is still impact. ” - Nicole àBeckett Just after the 2016 U.S. election, many people were saying, “I want to do more to get involved but I don’t know how.” Nicole àBeckett and her brother, David, knew there had to be a better way to bring people together for action on issues that matter. They started SameSide with a simple idea—to incorporate civic engagement within existing communities. Based in LA, Nicole worked with a local named Phil in March of 2017 to host the first event. Phil had a large network of friends and rallied them just after the Women’s March to campaign for Sarah Hernandez, a candidate for Senate in California. Together with SameSide he paired phone banking with a brewery tour. While phone banking was intimidating to some, the brewery tour with friends nudged fifteen of Phil’s buds to cross the threshold to activism. Through SameSide, this accessible activism model has been employed at scale. SameSide offers hosts the tools to learn and take action on issues. A host's job isn’t to be an expert; it’s to convene people around something they care about. The Standard Hotel is hosting pool parties advocating for gun safety. A woman celebrating her birthday wove in efforts to support ending the rape kit backlog in California. We talked with Nicole about how she has empowered hosts with tools to gather folks around what they care about to take action.Highlights, inspiration, & key learnings:Origin story. The beginning of integrating civic action with existing experiences and communities.Supporting leaders. How Nicole instills confidence and educates hosts on civic issues with issue baked tool kits.Ramping up the purposeful and participatory in activities. The tools Nicole offers hosts to make events action-focused.Leaders roadmap. Nicole utilized email campaigns to plant the seed for folks to take their first action and work up to hosting.

She was even put on birth control at a young age to manage those symptoms. Her passion for women's health stems from her own health journey and today she's here to set the record straight. In today's episode, we dive into what a normal period should look and feel like, what your period might be trying to tell you, and how you can enhance your hormonal health. Enjoy! So you’re at the top of your game, but your outfits aren’t... Don't worry -- Nicole Russo is here to free you from the stress of getting dressed, help you develop personal style, and feel good about the way you look! It's not you; it's the pants! This show's guest is my friend, Nicole Russo. She is the founder of "Let’s Get You," a private stylist & personal shopper service. In less than a decade, Nicole styled hundreds of people, sat front row at NYFW, spent over four years working at luxury powerhouse NET-A-PORTER, and was featured in Fast Company, Martha Stuart, Glam, and Women's Health. Nicole's on a mission to help people dress better without the bullshit. In less time than a flight to Asia, her clients have a complete wardrobe that feels as good as it looks. Fashion is complicated, but she makes it simple and easy for you! Today she tells me how she does this incredible job of making women feel beautiful! We also talk about a few controversial topics in the fashion industry. Don't come for her, as the controversial statements come from my mouth. And as a business owner who understands the costs of production, and as a fashion merchandising graduate, I understand why big brands do what they do (spoiler alert, typically for profit rather than doing the ethical thing). Therefore, the things we as consumers perceive as ethical, like green fashion or size inclusivity, are often changes made to increase the bottomline, and sadly not because those companies actually care. Today’s show covers topics like: How Nicole climbed the fashion industry ladder as a stylist From working for brands to building her own business How style can be a powerful mindset tool What is a stylist and would it be helpful for you? Defining your personal style and revamping your wardrobe How to dress for your body type loving what flatters you Why investing in your wardrobe quality is better than quantity How vanity sizing makes us feel and why How sizing inclusivity is both a great movement and a marketing scam Why buying designer dupes is unethical and lying to the world Stay in touch with Nicole Russo: Follow Nicole on IG: @_LetsGetYou Get a FREE closet checklist! What You Will Learn in This Episode: Host Nicole Mahoney’s experience with the challenges of equity, diversity, and inclusion What Nicole’s team is doing to live out the ‘equitable’ core value within their company What we can do to explore, understand, and act on the topic of diversity in the travel and tourism industry The lessons Nicole learned about diversity in applicant pools during the hiring process How Nicole’s team took a proactive approach to diversity in their company and industry How the team was living out their core values, and where they were falling short Why addressing systemic racism in your organization will impact existing employees, future employees, and clients alike Addressing the Topic of Diversity in our industry In Destination on the Left’s 200th episode, we kick off October’s theme of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Nicole Mahoney shares experience with these issues, and she talks about the different ways her team is working together to live out the ‘equitable’ core value within their company. Learn what we can do to explore, understand, and act on the topic of diversity in the travel and tourism industry. In light of recent events in the United States that sparked severe racial unrest, the opportunity to have this conversation could not have come at a better time. Looking into the Mirror With racial injustice sweeping the country right now, it is hard to focus on more than race. In the travel and tourism industry alone, racial diversity is a major issue, and it goes all the way to the leadership level of top organizations. As Nicole started to think about this, she realized that even her own company is guilty of homogeneity. Nicole didn’t build a team of white women on purpose, and there was no discrimination in the hiring process—she just didn’t receive a diverse applicant pool. But that is how she and her team *used* to think. After the death of George Floyd, they decided to take a proactive approach to diversity instead of leaving it to circumstance. A Deep Dive into the Unknown At first, Nicole and her team weren’t quite sure how to address the issue of diversity in their company and industry. But after exhausting every resource and contact they could pull from their network, a plan started to materialize. They used their ‘equitable’ core value as a framework and starting point in their exploration of systemic racism and diversity in the United States. The team figured out where they were living that core value, and where they were falling short. And as a result, the discoveries they made will shape the policies and actions of the organization as a whole, impacting existing team members, future team members, and clients alike. What would you do if you found out that your loved one was shot dead in his front yard? That’s a difficult and terrifying question that nobody should ever think of. But life happens and it can throw us sideways in a second, only to steer us on a better path. As Tony Robbins always says, ‘Life happens for us, not to us’ and sometimes it can give us gifts in disguise – gifts that we never asked for and, quite frankly, we certainly wouldn’t wish to receive. My guest today, Nicole Windley, had to answer that particular question, after having her boyfriend killed by a disgruntled neighbor. After his death, she went on a full journey of grieving, which was accompanied by two years of depression and a strong desire of not being part of this world anymore. But she overcame that difficult period once she finally reached out to the people around her – because, my dear friends, grief is not something anyone should deal with, alone. After nine years of that tragic event, she is now on a mission to help guide everyone to living their best life – mind, body, and soul. She is blessed with a passion to teach, guide, motivate, encourage, love, inspire, and support others. This is what makes her fearless, and the purpose of her life is to be love and give love, and do as much as she can for herself and others. Nicole is the host of the ‘Believe It, Achieve It’ podcast – a weekly dose of sparkle that encourages you to live your best life. Through this show, she empowers people to discover their dreams and ignite their lives. This week Jess and Rye share a special episode with Nicole Miller: founder of @racemvmt –a platform founded on the principles that in order to create sustainable transformation in our communities (removing cultural, racial and economic disparities) we must change the way we approach the world by changing the way we move in this world. We must analyze all definitions of the word “movement” and apply it to ourselves. The goals of @racemvmt: - Create space for diverse communities to move together and unite the Black community & its allies to dismantle systemic racism - Integrate resources to move minds and bring focus to everyday wellness This conversation includes a look at: How Nicole went from idea to execution, launching @racemvmt in 17 days (following the death of George Floyd) The idea of impact vs intention Why it is so hard to talk about race // confronting our unconscious bias’s around race The importance of holding ourselves accountable to be better than the society we grew up in What being an ally means to Nicole What performance allyship means and looks like What anti-racism should involve Advice for having tough, uncomfortable conversations What’s next for Nicole and Racemvmt MORE ABOUT NICOLE & RACEMVMT racemvmt.org @nicolehmiller Nicole Miller is a proud Black woman and in 2020 she felt more inspired and required than ever before to use her platform, her voice, her experiences to shed light on suppressed, but very prevalent aspects of her own life. She has felt the pain of not being heard. Of being torn down and criticized. But she has a voice and chose to use it. To take a stand, to uplift, to build and to educate! To “do the work” required to address racial injustice and create sustainable transformation in our communities. As such she created a platform called RACEMVMT and in just a few weeks, she manifested dreams she didn’t know imaginable, and brought to life a call to action with almost 1,000 active participants that requires all of us to support in order to grow. Nicole was raised in Denver, Colorado but moved around starting as an early teen. These diverse experiences contribute to her fundamental belief that racial justice is intricately intertwined with the balance of mindfulness, and desire to educate and be more informed than the society in which you may have grown up in. Her journey into wellness and diversity inclusion began with an adventurous spirit and an insatiable desire to connect- physically/mental/emotionally to self and those around her. Her fearless spirit allowed her to cultivate relationships in several circles and understand more thoroughly the impact and benefits of mindful movement. Through coaching and training, she found immense joy in empowering clients to find their strength and confidence to reach beyond their comfort zone, making progress every time they step in the room. However, she often found that Black and underserved communities were not included in these spaces or conversations surrounding wellness, health and fitness. As Nicole began to delve into the lack of diversity and inclusion within the wellness space, she became even more passionate about education and awareness for the diversity gap. This sparked an even greater purpose- to see change she needed to create change… and so RACEMVMT was born. The time is now to come together in solidarity. The time to be actively anti-racist and move away from selective ignorance. The time to do the work in creating sustainable transformation within our communities for our future generations. Sometimes the hardest thing, and the right thing are the same thing.

This week, we are joined by an incredible guest, Dr. Nicole LePera, also known as the Holistic Psychologist. She believes that mental wellness is for everyone and has evolved from her traditional training as a clinical psychologist to someone who acknowledges the connection between the mind and body. Dr. LePera is a fantastic example of not letting self-limiting beliefs hold you back from what you’re truly capable of. When she first started out as a clinical psychologist, working 1:1 with individuals, she never dreamed that it would be possible to influence millions of people worldwide. But once she let those pre-existing notions go, her world expanded and she is now influencing nearly three million people through social media alone. She went completely against the grain of what a clinical psychologist is supposed to do or be by sharing her personal story with the world and offering incredible nuggets of wisdom for free. We absolutely loved Nicole’s insight and the conversation we had with her today. We talked about her journey from traditional psychologist to holistic psychologist; her story of self-healing (and how she is now helping others self-heal); how she has arrived at this place where she is able to share her true, authentic self for the world to see; how to begin parenting your inner child and dig deep to overcome old wounds; and much, much more. Biography (In Nicole’s Words) I grew up in a small town on the Jersey Shore, and have been around football (soccer) for as long as I can remember. Everything I did in my childhood and adolescence was aimed at becoming a Division-1 college soccer player. In my junior year of high school, I achieved my lifelong dream and verbally committed to play soccer at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. In November of my senior year of high school I fractured my tibia and fibula. I underwent Open Reduction Internal Fixation with an intramedullary nail in my tibia and three screws going from my tibia to my fibula, two distally at the medial malleolus and one proximally near the pes anserine, and then started physical therapy. If you haven’t already figured out how this story ends, my physical therapist not only helped me recover from my injury, she also gave me my dream back. She helped me reclaim my self-identity and led me on my eventual career path of becoming a physical therapist myself. I knew I would never be able to adequately repay her for all she had done for me, and I also knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping other soccer players achieve their dreams, especially when they might be feeling as hopeless as I had. I ended up having an amazing experience at St. John’s, and then went on to Emory University in Atlanta, GA for physical therapy school where I met my husband, Marc. I currently see patients and clients for both physical therapy and performance training in person and remotely online in my cash based concierge style practice. When not working with clients or creating content, Marc and I try to spend as much time as possible outdoors in nature with our two dogs, Rosie and Kai. Transgender actress Nicole Maines plays a superhero on her hit TV show “Supergirl,” but she’s also a superhero in her everyday life. As young as 3 years of age, Nicole knew that the biological sex she was assigned at birth was not right, and struggled with anger, anxiety, and sadness. With the support of her parents, Nicole started transitioning genders in the 1st grade, and the thoughtful and gradual changes were generally accepted by her peers. However, in middle school, after a run-in with a boy who took issue with her use of the female bathroom, the school staff barred her from using the female bathroom, and increasingly isolated her from normal experiences on- and off-campus. Nicole and her family sued the school district for discrimination and after a five-year court battle she was victorious when the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that the school violated the Human Rights Act. Her landmark win prohibited barring transgender students access to bathrooms, paving the way for transgender justice and inclusivity. Her activism continues to this day and people regularly call on Nicole to guide them on how they can promote equality and inclusivity in their own communities. Nicole’s stories are so incredible relatable, no matter how you identify yourself on the gender and sexual preferences spectrums. As a young woman, Nicole is wise beyond her years and the lessons she has learned are ones all human beings can benefit from, as we ponder what it truly means to be authentic, joyful, and purposeful in our lives. Nicole reminds us to self-reflect in a way that is constructive rather than destructive and how to embrace each other’s differences. She calls on each person to dig deeply and determine what fears are holding us back, and why gossip holds such allure and offers temporary satisfaction, but ultimately steals a piece of our individual integrity. Dr. Judy reveals five actionable tips to be your own superhero which include letting moments of adversity be catalysts for personal growth, stopping blame, and gaining strength by avoiding your personal kryptonite. This lit conversation is going to help you to accomplish the extraordinary every day and to uncover incredible moments in the ordinary. In this episode, we discuss: 1. Setting the bar at superhero level (2:05) 2. Being the first transgender superhero on TV (2:50) 3. Exploring power and control in Nicole’s film bit (5:30) 4.
