Dr. Linda Blade, a sports performance coach and author of "Unsporting: How trans activism and science denial are destroying sport," joined the show to discuss her book. Dr. Blade explained how trans activism has negatively affected women's sports. She said she expects future Title IX lawsuits in response to this.

Linda Blade is a former National Champion of Canada in track & field (heptathlon) with a PhD in Kinesiology. For the past 26 years, she has run a private consulting business as “Sport Performance Professional” coach in Edmonton, Alberta working with athletes in over 15 sports (beginner to elite). Since 2014, Linda has also served as President of the Board for Athletics Alberta, where she has a duty to represent the province of Alberta at Canadian national sport policy meetings.  In a bid to increase public awareness of the threat posed by gender ideology, Linda has partnered with journalist Barbara Kay to author a new book, titled: UNSPORTING: How Trans Activism and Science Denial are Destroying Sport. Radical gender activists are using a pseudoscientific theory of human biology to hijack sports and subvert the long-established concepts of fair play — forcing women and girls to risk their safety, pushing them aside for male athletes using the excuse of “inclusivity.” Anyone who questions this dogma risks being branded as a transphobe and having their social and professional lives “cancelled”. In the new book, Unsporting: How Trans Activism and Science Denial are Destroying Sport, former Canadian track champion Linda Blade and renowned National Post columnist Barbara Kay, examine the dangers of gender ideology in sports. They document the attack on biological facts upon which the level playing field of sports rests. Tackling issues few have the courage to say out loud, Unsporting shows the harm inflicted on female athletes, and identifies the institutions driving this movement. What does the future hold for sports if biological reality is ignored? Blade answers that question and concludes with a reasonable plan to reverse course.

For almost a century now the international sporting community has grappled with the question of how to determine who gets to compete in the female sports category.  Fifty years ago the question was answered with humiliating physical exams, but in more recent decades most international sporting federations have embraced a science focused approach. The International Olympic Committee, for example, uses testosterone levels considerably above the female range, not gender, as the main determinant of who gets to compete in the women's elite sport. But last October, World Rugby made international headlines when it announced a very different approach. The governing body's new guidelines prohibit transgender athletes from playing elite women's rugby because of concerns about the safety of players. Advocates for trans athletes say that these guidelines are discriminatory not least because they underestimate the extent to which hormone therapy and surgery diminish the biological advantages of being born male. They also argue that it's dangerous for international sporting bodies to try and regulate the factors that go into superior performance - a complex matter that cannot be reduced to a gender binary. Advocates for women's sport say that for reasons of basic fairness and safety more governing bodies should develop guidelines that bar biological males from participating in female sport. They argue that trans women who are born male enjoy immense physical advantages that are not eliminated through testosterone therapy or surgery. Female athletes argue that the increasing participation of trans women in their division is pushing them off of the podium and undermining the whole reason behind creating a women's sports category in the first place. Arguing for the motion is Linda Blade, former track and field champion, professional track and field coach, and President of Alberta Athletics. Dr. Linda Blade is a Sport Performance Professional with a PhD in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University, in Canada. She is a track and field coach and the current President of Athletics Alberta (Alberta Association for Track & Field, Cross-Country and Road Running).Dr. Linda Blade has worked for 25 years as a Sport Performance Professional coach in Edmonton teaching fundamental biomotor skills to athletes in over 15 sports (from beginner to elite). Since 2014, Linda has served as President of the Board for Athletics Alberta, where she has a duty to contend with proposals to insert ‘gender identity' into Canadian sport policy. Linda insists that the struggle to preserve women's sports for biological females is, “the hill I am prepared to die on”.It appears that Linda's entire life experience has prepared her for this role: playing street soccer as a small child and then becoming the Bolivian champion in Track & Field as a 15-year-old. She secured a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Title IX scholarship and winning “All American” honours while at University of Maryland; later becoming Canadian Champion and competing internationally with Team Canada in heptathlon. Linda Blade was a Canadian Track and Field Champion, and NCAA All-American in heptathalon. Following her athletic career she completed a PhD in Kinesiology and has devoted her life since then to developing and implementing training programs for new generations of athletes. She is currently  President of Athletics Alberta, in Canada. For a long time she has been concerned with male bodies in female sports, biological males who declare themselves transgender women and then, based on their sex-based biological advantages, consistently win events, leaving all the biological women behind. David and Linda discuss the physical differences in male skeletons, musculature and more, and how women are now fighting a rearguard action to regain the sex-based distinction of their sports category, after mostly men in important organizations like the IOC gave it away.
