Gary tells us why the team makes more sense now, and why Marcus Smart needed to be traded to make room for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.Derrick White has been playing at an all-star level this year, something that Gary says wouldn't have been possible two years ago because of a lack of confidence. White making a solid two-way backcourt with Jrue Holiday has really freed up Tatum and Brown to do more, on and off the court.Speaking of, Gary explains that Tatum and Brown are very different people with very different interests and stresses that it's okay if the two best players on this team aren't best friends. It doesn't mean they have an issue with each other and it definitely doesn't mean they need to be split up.Vince and Gary agree that the Celtics occasionally fall in love with the 3-point shot to their detriment, and Gary explains how this has affected his relationship with Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla. Finally, with LeBron James' 39th birthday coming up this weekend, the guys try to think of other players that have been this good at this age. This week I talk about the great play from Malcom Brogdon and Sam Hauser off the bench and why I am a little concerned about the possibility that Jaylen and Jayson might not be getting enough help to start the season. Yesterday was the best day of the year. Opening day in the NBA!The lads take a deep dive on all thing s day one in the NBA and give you their opinions on where the teams sit after day one. The J's, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, were red hot for the Celtics. The Boston Celtics looked really good with Malcom Brogdon contributing straight away, Noah Vonleh playing a role and everyone gelling. James Harden did everything he could for the 76ers. What happened to this revamped 76ers bench? Was this not supposed to be a gamechanger for them? I guess time will tell! Ring Ceremony and first wins! The Golden State Warriors came out and never looked uncomfortable. Stephen Curry and Co. handled the Los Angeles Lakers pretty easily. Bench points told the story in this one as well as Steph getting hot in the second half. LeBron James did everything he could with 31/14/8 and in typical fashion could have had 10 more points if calls went his way. Anthony Davis had something to prove with a huge first quarter grabbing steals and running the break. The benches told the story. Warriors looked more settled and deeper than the Lakers and just strolled to a victory regardless of a Lakers late push. The lads then break down how good it is having the NBA back and what games people should be looking out for. Tune in or all this and more wherever you find good podcasts!
This week I talk about the 2 preseasons game against the Hornets and the Raptors. I talk about the great things I am seeing from Malcom Brogdon and Derrick White & the not so great stuff from Marcus Smart. I breakdown Jayson Tatum's rebounding so far this preseason and why I think Noah Vonleh should make the roster.

(00:00 – 26:45) – Jimmy Cook opens the show as the guest host and immediately begins to hype up the Pacers 6th pick in the NBA Draft, Bennedict Mathurin. Jimmy then goes on to talk about other draft picks and where they fell in the first round. Discussion turns to whether or not Malcom Brogdon is tradeable right now in his career and at this point in the season. (26:46 – 41:02) – 93.1 WIBC's Jason Hammer joins the show to talk about the Pacers draft. Jason discusses how he feels as though things are looking a bit too good and that something must go wrong eventually due to his superstitions. Jimmy and Hammer then talk about how this roster isn't complete yet and to expect at least a Myles Turner or Malcom Brogdon trade before the season begins. Then as is always the case when Hammer joins the show there was a little bit of NBA draft bet talk to close out the segment. Black History Month may have ended but the work NEVER STOPS! This week on The Work, Chloe and Brandon welcome Malcom Brogdon, Indiana Pacers starting point guard and Vice President of the NBPA. Having been named after social justice icon, Malcolm X, Brogdon was entrenched in the fight for equality since birth. As a kid, him and his family took mission trips to Africa to provide aid and relief to those in need. He witnessed firsthand the lack of accessibility families had to water and he knew something needed to be done. Those experiences early on shaped Malcolm into the man he is today. It's not just about basketball for Brogdon. It's about providing an equitable future to disadvantaged communities and the less fortunate. In the NBA bubble, Brogdon was a leading voice not only to encourage athletes to play but also use their platform to highlight the injustices that Black people in this country face today. He uses his status as an NBA player as an engine to drive his passions and further accomplish his goals. Check out this episode of The Work to learn more about how Brogdon is facilitating change in our country and abroad. Then head to brogdonfamilyfoundation.org to see how you can get involved too!

The Degens couldn't seem to agree on a whole lot today in the NBA. Excerpts from Max's Notes: NBA Hawks at Wizards The Bullets are coming off an awful loss on Wednesday as they continue to deal with injuries. They will be happy to welcome the Hawks into town. Atlanta is losers of 2 in a row despite Trae Young’s continued great play. Bradley Beal is questionable for tonight and the Bullets being a slight favorite like this and not getting the home 3 could be indicative that he’s out again. Pelicans at Knicks The Knicks return home after 5 consecutive road losses. The last two have been absolutely atrocious. But MSG is where they won their last game a little over a week ago. The Pelicans are coming off a nice win over the Bulls on Wednesday and are inching closer to getting Zion back. The Pelicans are 7-3 straight up and 8-1-1 ATS over their last 10. The Knicks are the fucking the Knicks. Maybe being at home will help them but even getting some big lines they are only 8-9 ATS at home. Heat at Nets The Heat aren’t a great road team but they got a nice one against the Pacers and now head to Brooklyn to face a Nets team that has lost 7 in a row. Other than the Kyrie injury, the Nets have been impacted by the poor shooting of Spencer Dinwiddie. He carried that team for so long and is a reason that they are now slumping. Dinwiddie will get hot again soon and the Nets will start playing better. This game is trappish. Spurs at Grizzlies The Spurs upset the Celtics on Wednesday and now head to Memphis to play Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. Both teams have little win streaks going on and are pretty close record wise. Both teams are pretty similar ATS and straight up over their last 10. Sharp money seems to be on the Grizzlies right now. Pacers at Bulls The Pacers have lost 3 of 4 as the injury to Malcom Brogdon has been a huge hit on them. Now Sabonis is day-to-day and Indiana has to to hit the road tonight. Thankfully, they head to Chicago to play a Bulls team that has lost 5 in a row. The Pacers are the better team and should get back to their winning ways. Magic at Suns Orlando has played much like they did last season. They are a team of streaks and right now they are doing well as they’ve won 4 of 5. Other than the Heat, the wins have been lesser opponents and it’s hard to know if Phoenix is a lesser opponent or not. The Suns are seemingly healthy but they’ve lost two in a row and have yet to capture that same success they had before Ayton was suspended. The money is overwhelmingly on Phoenix. Hornets at Jazz Charlotte was able to hang with the Raptors and fell short in OT but now travel to Utah where the Jazz have won 7 in a row and 9 of 10. Utah is also 8-2 ATS in their last 10 and boast a stellar home record at 14-3. Lakers at Mavericks Anthony Davis is listed as questionable and LeBron is listed as probable. Not what you want to hear when you are the Lakers and heading to Dallas to play Luka and the Mavs. LA has won 6 in a row and will take on a Mavs team missing one of their key players as Porzingis is once again out. Dallas is only 7-12-1 ATS at home and the Lakers are a damn good road team. I don’t like this one at all. Bucks at Kings San Antonio beat up the Celtics this week but let’s not forget they also destroyed the Bucks too. Thankfully for Milwaukee they bounced back and got a win over the Warriors and get a shot at another less than average California team. The Kings have won 3 of 4 and maybe can start playing to the level we expected them to play after their breakout season last year. Giannis is listed as probable so he should go but Ilyasova is questionable for the Bucks. The Kings will be without Bogdanovich again and Bagley is listed as questionable. Warriors at Clippers Paul George is out for the Clippers and Vegas is still okay with making this a big double digit spread. I just wonder if you can trust the Clippers to cover. They’ve laid a few eggs lately with a blowout loss to Memphis and a close call with the Knicks. They are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 and just 11-8 ATS at home this season. But it’s the Warriors and they really don’t have any healthy bodies. D’Angelo Russell might end up playing tonight but even that’s not a given. NHL Senators at Red Wings Matchup of the fucking century here. The Senators have lost 5 in a row and travel to Detroit to play a Red Wings team that has the worst goal differential in the league by 30 goals. Detroit did pick up a win this week and I don’t expect many more from them this season. Coyotes at Hurricanes The Coyotes let me down yesterday and it doesn’t get much easier for them today. They head to Carolina to take one a Hurricanes team that is coming off a nice win on Tuesday over the Flyers. The issue for Arizona right now is their goalie as they are forced to depend on backup of the backup Adin Hill. Penguins at Avalanche The Avalanche return home after going 1-2 on their New York/New Jersey road trip. They play a Penguins team that is fresh off a road win over the Golden Knights and who might get Sidney Crosby back today. I’m sure the Penguins will be cautious. They have done well without Crosby the past few months and part of that is due to excellent goaltending by Tristan Jarry. Happy New Year! Andy Behrens and Dalton Del Don are back to discuss all things NBA in the latest fantasy basketball podcast. In this week’s Starting Five, Andy and Dalton run down the five biggest storylines of the fantasy week:1) You’ll never believe this, but Anthony Davis is moderately injured. He took a nasty fall on Tuesday, but escaped with just a bruise and is questionable to play in his next game. Is Dwight Howard worth an add to your fantasy team? (01:31)2) Blake Griffin had surgery on his knee and there is no timetable yet — what’s the fallout? Do we assume Blake is done for the year? Also, it's probably your last chance to join the Sekou Doumbouya hype train! (04:59)3) Hassan Whiteside is ranked the number *3* player in 9-cat fantasy over the past 30 days, and number 9 on the season. He has double-doubles in 17 of 18 games, went 20-20 last week. He leads NBA in blocks (2.9). Is he a sell-high or hold? (07:40)4) Last week, we said we were optimistic about Jonathan Isaac's injury and we were very, very wrong. A bone bruise in his knee means we’re still 7-8 weeks away from him being reevaluated. RIP, Dalton’s fantasy teams. What is the likelihood Isaac’s fantasy season is over? (13:16)5) Victor Oladipo has an ETA of 1/29, for a critical division game against Andy's Chicago Bulls. Malcom Brogdon and Aaron Holiday are likely to lose playing time once the All-Star is back. (15:18)[Yahoo Sportsbook powered by BetMGM: Deposit $10, Get $100 in Free Bets. NJ only. 21+. Terms apply]Next up, Dalton and Andy are joined by ESPN’s Andre Snellings. They talk trade speculation, like what's the likelihood that Andre Drummond, Kevin Love, and/or Chris Paul are dealt, and where is Andre’s ideal landing spot for each? They also discuss the best fantasy roster stashes for the second half, as well as the biggest surprises — good and bad — halfway through the season. (19:30)And we wrap up the show with In Case You Missed It. ICYMI this week: Chris Haynes with Steve Kerr on the Posted Up Podcast. Kerr expects Steph Curry back around March. Is that enough time to make a stash worth it? They also discuss Darnell Mayberry’s interview with Craig Hodges in the Athletic.
