Today’s episode is an interview with Dr. DeLon Canterbury. DeLon is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. He founded GeriatRx, a telehealth-based senior care consulting company. GeriatRx combines Pharmacogenomic testing and Comprehensive Medication Management, and addresses the social determinants of health, such as food, shelter, financial stability, and health literacy. He helps patients who are struggling to achieve their healthcare goals and lowers their healthcare expenses. By reducing medication errors and advocating for deprescribing, consultant pharmacists like DeLon improve patient safety and save patients, their families, and the healthcare system money. DeLon manages patients across the state of North Carolina and demonstrates the value pharmacists add to healthcare delivery. DeLon embodies servant-leadership and places it at the forefront of GeriatRx. He is an active Executive Board Member for the African-American Minority COVID Task Force in Durham, North Carolina, a Formulary Committee member of Senior PharmAssist at the Durham Senior Center for Life, and served as Community Health Coalition’s Telehealth Director, helping older African-American patients with wellness and reassurance check-ups during COVID. Advocacy work helped DeLon get his fire back. GeriatRx is a pharmacist-led company that focuses on MTM. DeLon has a home office. His patients have concerns and issues managing medication (not just elderly). He has saved 20 patients more than $150,000 in healthcare costs. DeLon shared a story about helping an elderly female patient who was taking 36 medications. She was like a walking zombie, and her family wanted to institutionalize her. GeriatRx served as a medical expert in court, identified medications that were on the Beers list, and attested that the patient was overmedicated. Using a team-based approach over time, DeLon helped deprescribe the medication list from 36 to 8. The patient’s quality of life improved, and she remained out of an institution. DeLon communicated well with the team, educated the patient and prescribers, earned trust from the patient and prescribers, and followed up in order to get the results the patient needed. This experience made DeLon want to help more people! Incomplete comprehensive medication reviews (CMR’s) lead to problems. When products are not listed on the CMR, no one knows the patient is on them. As a result, additional meds are prescribed to counteract side effects from products that are not on the CMR. DeLon experienced a gradual shift from full-time community practice to full-time consultant. He wanted to have his own consulting practice for years. 2 years ago (~2019), he started planning. DeLon worked as a poison center pharmacist briefly after leaving full-time community practice. He helped with the COVID helpline in North Carolina, worked long hours, trained students and staff, and answered a large volume of calls. Working at the poison information center sparked DeLon’s interest in advocating for minority communities to get the COVID vaccination. DeLon felt called to help. He has opportunities to volunteer whereas full-time pharmacists working in traditional settings do not [have opportunities to volunteer]. DeLon talked about myths and skepticism surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine. Some think they are immune because they are young or healthy. Some do not believe that the vaccine is the same for all people regardless of color or job title. Some refuse vaccination due to a lack of trust. DeLon referenced historical events that led to mistrust among minority communities, including population control and the Tuskegee Experiment involving African Americans in Alabama who had untreated syphilis. Misinformation is out there, and it needs to be addressed. DeLon participates in panels as a speaker in North Carolina Communities. He likes to meet the audience where they are, and have a conversation. DeLon asks the audience, “What’s holding you back from getting the vaccine?” “How many people know someone who got COVID?” “How many people know someone who died from COVID?” “How many people have died from getting the vaccine?” He is empathetic, but he also states the facts. DeLon recommends meeting people where they are, being empathetic, addressing fears and questions, using everyday language, and making points clear. Furthermore, DeLon recommends making no assumptions about what people know; start from scratch. DeLon has been on news to share how the vaccination will help. DeLon joined a Toastmasters Club to improve his communication skills. Although his is already an excellent communicator, he struggles with the voice in the back of his head that tells him he is not a good communicator. Toastmasters helped DeLon with networking, building relationships, being aware of saying “crutch words” (such as, “Um, like, and so), and getting immediate feedback through evaluations. He is working on his Dynamic Speaker Pathway. DeLon’s Facebook LIVE broadcasts have helped him improve his communication skills too. DeLon recommends pharmacists volunteer [doing something different] to gain experience, join organizations, and network. In his parting comments, he said, “Do something that makes you uncomfortable until you love it!”
The Joy Revolution & Marc Cordon present The Golden Mic Podcast Ep. 64 The Genocide of the Modern Healer https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0064_starlight Tamara Arnold knew there was something wrong with her son, Ethan. The dead give away? His pupils would dilate, and any coloration of his eyes turned black. She turned towards psychology to ameliorate his condition. What parent wouldn't want to see their child remedied of dark thoughts and functioning restored? What Tamara didn't know is how much of her own self was in a dormant state. And as she awakened to her psychic gifts, she realized that the Westernized approach to mental health was fractured and inadequate. It dawned on Tamara that her son Ethan took on dark energy. He took on dark energy to protect his mother. And as a result, he was possessed for several years as she continued to "remember" who she truly was. If you heard the last podcast with Tomas Garza Episode 63, you'll hear him talking about "remembering." Or if you've heard my Speakers Who Dare talk on panarchy, this idea of remembering and revolting is present in everything. And in remembering Tamara realized the ancestral trauma that had been forced to be suppressed. And in stuffing down the genealogical grief, anger, and sadness, Tamara realized that much of society has forgotten who they actually are. And as a result, we've become fractured, numbed out, and living a monotone experience of keeping our sh*t together or as Abby Havermann calls it, Impression Management in Ep 55. For Tamara, she remembers her lineage of the healer and the witch - ancestors who experienced the genocide of the healer. This is why she helps spiritual entrepreneurs bust through the energy blocks in their chakras so they can make a bigger impact in the world with their epic missions. And in diving even deeper, Tamara meditated in the Colorado mountains when Spirit spoke to her. As she claimed her birthright... As she realized that modern society doesn't have the capacity to honor empaths, healers, witches... Spirit told Tamara her true name. Alas, Avalon! And this is only part 1. Don't let the levity fool you this is an awesome episode that ties an amazing narrative with other previous narratives. Are you ready for a Joy Revolution? Yes, it's what it sounds like: a Joy Revolution! Because joy is in fact revolutionary. Join my special guest Marc Cordon and me for a fun and high-energy episode! Marc is a positive psychology coach and co-founder of the Joy revolution, as well as the host of The Golden Mic Podcast. I have had the good fortune of appearing as one of his guests (in fact we are both releasing our interviews with each other on the same day!) Like many of us, Marc has experienced his share of burnout. He did what society tells all of us to do, and he found himself doing "okay" yet still unhappy. He craved a way to do more than just be okay. He craved a Joy Revolution. Make no mistake: the decision to embrace Love is revolutionary. So is having the courage to sit with the hurt that inevitably arises when you choose it, and not to bypass it. The ego would do anything to preserve itself. It would have you not choose Love, and even if you did it would try to convince you not to go all in. Happily, Love (which encompasses Joy) is so strong that it shines away all our layers of falsehood and uncertainty. In short, it cuts right through the B.S. So, how does it feel to experience Joy, to bask in our Collective Effervescence? Ask Marc--he knows! --- Marc Cordon, MPH has appeared on national television and radio and has delivered two TEDx talks on positive psychology. He is the author of Beyond Resilient: The Coach's Guide to Ecstatic Growth. His show The Golden Mic Podcast is an interview show that takes a deep dive into extraordinary people who lead their own joy revolutions. The Joy Revolution & Marc Cordon presents... Ep. 58 Opening Davie Jones' Locker w/ Dave Chametzy https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0058_chametzy I put my favorite pen down - the one I used for taking notes on my guests and I swallowed nervously. My emotions well up to my eyes as tears naturally fell. I stared at my digits as I rubbed my thumbs together. I couldn't hold back anymore as one of the kindest, quirky and generous people I know - Uncle Dave, Dave the Davemeister, Cluberty Dave - talked about growing up being the odd man out, acceptance, and inclusion. One of the most amiable people I know talked about being bullied. He spoke about not being upset when his family could only afford his sisters' dance lessons, which came at the expense of Dave playing baseball. And that's when 13-year-old Dave met her. She was the sister of his classmate with whom he played basketball. One day, Dave came over to find none of his friends. He talked to their sister for a bit before asking her to see a movie. "I've been waiting for you to ask me out!" she responded. And from that day forward, they were inseparable. Even when she went to Stanford, they racked up. She worked pretty hard that week, and Dave urged her to let off some steam and go to a party. And that advice would haunt Dave for years... === Don't forget to subscribe, give some cool stars, and leave a review. The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon and The Joy Revolution present... The Spiritual Masochist w/ Bradford Scott Walton Pt 1 https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0051_walton When he was four years old, Bradford Scott Walton moved with his family to California. By five, he had his first dream state vision. These dreams differed in two ways from our normal three-dimensional dreams. Some of them felt highly instructional, and others were in a black void with beings from other dimensions. As Bradford grew up, he didn't struggle with school. In fact, there was just a knowing that he had. For example, he always knew there was a kind of river of knowledge above him that he can attach to a tube out of his head. He could predict numbers, information, and facts before they were told. Even with these gifts, Bradford felt an incredible amount of loneliness and disconnection from his peers. And in one of his dream state visions, four of his sky homies, his galactic buddies, appeared. Bradford immediately contacted his healer Tina, who could speak and translate the conversation with the four beings in his dream. They told Bradford that the loneliness and separation are real because he is an Aethos being like them. Bradford is going through an earth experience to understand it better. But it doesn't stop there as the Aethos beings revealed to Bradford where feminine and masculine were evolving. They were moving towards integrating the energies and creating a new being. And while some indigenous cultures acknowledge the presence of a masculine and feminine side of a person, these dreams are actually quite radical in calling out living in a world masculine dominant which oppresses, suppresses, and devalues the female paradigm. This is just an episode you have to hear for yourself...especially the part where Bradford describes in detail what it was like to be split in one of these dreams. Another awesome episode that humans, moon people, Aethos beings from the 10th dimension, Syrian beings, maybe even a few Arcons, can all appreciate. Enjoy! The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon presents... The Black Sheep, The Shepherd of the New Earth w/ Selena Ella Moon Pt 2 https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0050_moon "My Joy Revolution is magnetizing all the beauty, all the abundance, and all the service that I want to provide for this planet and this experience into the world right now." Selena Moon If you're wondering if this when this mild-mannered Golden Mic Podcast became The Selena Moon Show, good! So are we! This instant classic kicks off with Selena opening space for Cordon to open up about his own spiritual journey and even invites him into dream analysis. And in a flawless transition, Selena talks about once again being a black sheep trying to acquiesce to the status quo in her marriage - a union which was ripe for shadow work well after her divorce. In this divorce, Selena was gifted one last light bomb that disrupted and healed several fixed patterns to fit in and be accepted. It was the illumination point marking the transition from sheepish black sheep to towards an unapologetic shepherd, one of many, to lead us through the ostensibly tumultuous friction celebrating the arrival of the new earth. The interview itself mimicked her unraveling and deep-diving into her soul's purpose. It's reminiscent of a ball made of tightly wound rubber bands, exploding out in different directions. You can almost see the disentanglement as she describes moving from a highly successful physically training business to one of a healer providing spiritual and emotional support to other black sheep. We'll save the closing part of the podcast for you to experience. But let's just say the show's producer drives away before the show ends. If you listened to the previous episode and now this episode, you'll be cheerfully satisfied with how the story arches into the close. The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon and TEDxOcala Ep. 038 They Called Her School w/ Amira Sims https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0038_sims Even as a child Amira Sims taught. Her first students? Stuffed animals. Within a few years, Amira was giving homework to her new class her family. It's not a surprise that Amira has been teaching a wide range of undergraduate classes in General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and my personal favorite Social Psychology. There is nothing like being paid to do what you love, and Amira has leaned into that as she has traversed the country as an instructor and poet. While she has the chops to teach, speak and perform, it's in the moments when she has gone off the script, off the lesson plan where she has found her true unfiltered and unfettered voice. It's most apropos that we kickoff a block of guests leading up to TEDxOcala 2020 with Amira's story as both she and TEDxOcala's theme encourage us to be ourselves and use our voice in authentically sovereign, powerfully vulnerable and unapologetically joyful ways. It's going to be a veritable cornucopia of diverse voices that will culminate at TEDxOcala, so if there ever was a time to subscribe, rate, and leave a testimonial on the Golden Mic Podcast, it's now. The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon and TEDxOcala Ep. 040 Fueled by Fire w/ Staci Wallace https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0039_wallace Anyone who knows Staci Wallace knows that she carries herself with a big energy, and an even bigger heart. It makes it hard to believe that Staci was shy when she was young. Not only was she shy, but she was born with cystic fibrosis, which was terminal 50 years ago. But her family believed in faith over fear. And what happened was nothing short of a miracle. The lungs that were vulnerable to illness became the power house to become a singer. And not just any singer, but one one that recorded five albums and performed on stages like broadway and the Olympics. Staci has successfully been able to move her mindset from resilient to anti-fragile over her lifespan staging comebacks in her personal life and business. And as she says, “A dream without a plan is nothing without wishful thinking.” If ever a time to subscribe to The Golden Mic Podcast, it's now as I have the privilege of having a conversation with many of the speakers you'll see at TEDxOcala 2020: Voice. The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon and TEDxOcala Ep. 041 From Profession to Passion to Mission https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0041_penn Yemi Penn has lived all over the world. And it shows in her openness to diverse ways of thinking and living life to the fullest. She truly is a citizen of the world and has crafted her unique voice through those experiences and her background. It's because of her family roots that she became a successful engineer. But it was that diversity of though that inspired her to become a multi-time entrepreneur. Through this revolution, she evolved into a transformational coach who creates space for her clients to experience healing. Yemi has done a remarkable job finding her voice and not living the binary “either/or” thinking of this 3-dimensional world. Instead approaching her life by saying, “EITHER I become an engineer OR I become a transformational coach,” she is mastering the art of living with the mindset of “and.” I am can be a transformational coach and use skills that I learned in engineering. The Golden Mic Podcast w/ Marc Cordon and TEDxOcala Ep. 039 Black Lives Matter Because All Lives Matter w/ James Jones https://play.goldenmicpodcast.com/0039_jones If you told the young Jimmy Jones that he'd grow up to be a college professor telling his life story on a podcast, he wouldn't believe you. Jimmy grew up in the segregated south, which gave him a narrow perspective of what he could accomplish later in life. Through the encouragement of his cousin, as a pre-teen and teenager, James made it a personal goal to read all of the books in the tiny library in his town. And it was in that tiny library that James started to find his voice. Specifically, The Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter Godwin Woodson was particularly salient as it made the argument that education is the means for African-Americans to get out of their current subjugated roles in the greater society. This book became particularly salient as it moved James to attend the HBCU of Hampton University. As a student he was challenged by Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) to dig even deeper. And in his digging, James read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. It's no surprise that Dr. Jimmy Jones is now Professor Emeritus of World Religions, Executive Vice President of the Islamic Seminary of America, and former Chair of both the Dept of World Religions and the African Studies Program at Manhattanville College. In this conversation, James breaks down the constructs of “us vs them” and puts the new perspective of “oneness” in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement. Incredible! Yes, you read that right. That's Manila, but with 2 L's...why? Simple, this interview is as sweet as vanilla and as imperfect as a misspelled word on a vocabulary test. It's being billed as the greatest rematch of all time. The people knew how special their chemistry was when they sparred on a few episodes of The Golden Mic Live, but their first epic battle happened on the now LEGENDARY episode 200 of Golden Mic Live where Muscles Marinara unexpectedly went southpaw and left Manilla Ice knocked out cold on the mat. Then came The Thrilla II on The Golden Mic Podcast where Cordon delivered a turbo-boosted hadouken before delivering the fatality on Andriopoulos. In school growing up, Marc Cardon had been repeatedly bullied and mocked In school because teachers and students thought he looked “Native American.” So, it’s hardly surprising that when he first became engaged with social justice activism, he developed tactics rooted in anger and fear. When Marc was first exposed to positive psychology, he was skeptical. He knew that fear and anger had been effective strategies for him and for social movements in general to accomplish their goals. But where could positive emotions like joy fit into the picture? And could these positive emotions help fuel a social movement and the individuals who make it up? He enrolled in the Certificate in Positive Psychology Program offered by the Whole Being Institute to investigate where positive psychology can overlap with social justice. In this episode, Marc talks about: - The challenge in finding the right balance between positive and negative emotions in social justice work. - The value of positive emotions and rituals to building a sense of community, enabling individuals and movements to sustain themselves, especially when the work gets difficult. - How The Joy Revolution, the organization he co-founded, “teaches change-agents, luminaries, and other do-gooders how to create positive social impact and lasting change through an expanded experience of joy.”Resources:Videos:A Revolution of Joy / Marc Cordon / Speakers Who Dare NYC 2019. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbmdJjfJFMIHow to Have Extraordinary Growth on Ordinary Days | Marc Cordon | TEDxFarmingdale. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkn31_553L8&t=369s Organizations:The Joy Revolution. https://joyrevolution.com/ Books:Beyond Resilient: The Coach's Guide to Ecstatic Growth. https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Resilient-Coachs-Ecstatic-Growth-ebook/dp/B076JK4SBJAuthors/theories mentioned in the episode:Victor Frankl - Man’s Search for MeaningCharles Snyder, Hope TheoryCarol Dweck, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

When we have a powerful message to share, an important mission to bring to the world and we look to raise our consciousness, we want our positive message to virally spread; and this is where Facebook and Instagram marketing come in. How do we scale our revolution organically? How do we stay authentic as we grow our following? What is the difference between our personalities and our personas? On this episode, psychology coach and The Joy Revolution co-founder, Marc Cordon, shares on how we can make our revolution more visible in the world. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Meditation helps us stay authentic For people pleasers, it’s often hard to separate our own voices and the voices of others. Meditation is a powerful way to hear our own inner voice and avoid being led by external influences. The Personality vs. The Persona Wherever we show up within our brands, we are showcasing our personas, but who we are authentically is our personality. In order to become more authentic, we need to bring more of our personality into our persona. Invest in social media marketing for social good If we really want to be seen, and scale our revolution; we have to be willing to invest in getting our message out to the psychographics and demographics that will light up when they see it. Guest Bio Marc is a positive psychology coach, speaker, co-founder of The Joy Revolution and author of the book Beyond Resilient: The Coach's Guide to Ecstatic Growth. One of the most important elements of becoming a daring speaker is to embrace who you are and become vulnerable. Today's guest shares his journey of learning to claim his story and share it with the world.
Oh yes I did dare to bring the co-founder of The Joy Revolution on a podcast devoted to the intricacies of grief! They don’t call me the renegade widow for nothing, after all. Marc Cordon’s positivity and joy is contagious and inspiring, especially when we learn that his activism and understanding of the human experience and fascination with psychology was rooted in fear and expressed from a place of anger in its early days. None of this positivity is rooted in spiritual bypass, fake-it-til-you-make-it, or fluff. It’s pure, unadulterated, authentic, from deep-down-in-the-belly joy that has been hard earned and continues to be deeply revered by this incredible guest. Marc is an expert in transitions, a positive psychology coach, (not to mention, he’s got a BS in neuroscience, and master’s degree in public health!!). By employing the principles of positive psychology to real life and real hard times, Marc sheds light on the human capacity to shift from reacting out of anger and fear to living fully and thriving...even when pain and suffering are present! And that’s not just something that sounds nice to say - he’s got the data to back it up! Marc and I discuss why the “fake it ‘til you make it” attitude so common in grief support circles is actually keeping us locked in a cycle of suffering. We get honest and unfiltered about what’s possible when it comes to mental wellness for us all and how the bar has been set so abysmally low when it comes to our expectations for healing. We can all step onto the path to thriving, NOW—no matter what stage of grief we’re in or level of heartache we’ve experienced. These ideas may seem like a fluffy luxury for the lucky, but we’re expanding what’s possible on the other side of deep pain, my friends. Let’s not wait to “hit rock bottom” to take action on behalf of our own healing. Let’s not settle for a life of surviving when there’s so much more living left to do. By cultivating resilience and moving in the direction of healing each day (instead of just learning to cope), we learn to feel the enormity of whatever we’re feeling and be safe there with it in the moment. Come one, come all. This is a conversation you don’t want to miss. Topics we covered: the damaging (and exhausting) impact of reactivity and a new way of doing things why we need virtuous friends (and what that even means!) how the five stages of grief are so totally incomplete simple steps for cultivating mindfulness and resilience that you can take right now a whole lotta unpacking the topics of pain and suffering the most direct route to shifting your life and mindset in the direction of joy (no matter what you’re going through) Resources: “Man’s Search for Meaning,” by Viktor Frankl The Joy Revolution Marc’s website, where you can download his free book, “Beyond Resilient” Connect with Marc and the Joy Revolution on facebook.

Things we discuss in today’s episode: Shiny penny syndrome The importance of practicing what we preach Simple tangible ways of experiencing true joy Hedonic happiness What the Joy Revolution is all about Using personal narrative as a form of empowerment Legacy in today’s day and age being all about our own agenda and far removed from true social movement Fostering a collective for joy & change Self care as an act of political warfare Using social media for social good Positive psychology, intersectional feminism, legacy and beyond And…a shit ton of poop references…’cause would you expect anything BUT that?
In this episode you will learn about: •Turning anger into positive change •Listening in order to create strategic dialogue •Building bridges between differing worlds •Being a change agent in your community

This episode begins differently than any other as I throw Marc under the bus! Marc’s energy is contagious, and when we get together, the most epic things happen. Marc opens up about his spiritual journey from religion to joy and everything in between. His honesty, openness and vulnerability is truly a testament to how incredible he is as a human. We dive deep, and I mean deep. In this episode we talk about coming out of the spiritual closet (this one hits you first thing) joy, happiness and universal oneness finding and then running from joy The dark decade What living in joy really means And this is just the tip of the iceberg. The hour flew by and both of us could not believe how much we still had to say. You don’t want to miss listening to this incredible episode! Also… should Marc and I do a podcast together? “There is no wrong way to live life.”I’m super pumped for episode 40. It’s another BIG milestone for the Stay Grounded podcast and we’ve got an incredible guest to mark this special occasion.Marc Cordon and I have similar roots. As second generation immigrants, we’ve both grown up as minorities trying to find our own version of the American dream. And it’s been one hell of a ride!As you’ll hear in this episode, Marc wasn’t always the approachable, compassionate guy you’ll hear today. He used to be ‘an angry Asian’ - desperate to not be Filipino so he could be like everyone else and fit it. But that wasn’t Marc’s destiny. In fact, standing out became the very thing that helped him achieve the success he enjoys today.Inspired by Michael Jackson, Marc is the coach that coaches the coaches. A positive psychology expert and the force behind Make Money Coaching Program, Marc’s mission is to empower people and have as much fun as possible. So settle in because you’re in for a treat! Along with some incredibly honest life advice, Marc dives into his story from former Asian band, to social justice campaigner, to highly sought after coach. I took a whole ton from this conversation and I know you will too.“Growth does have pain, but it also has an ecstacy part to it.”Another thing Marc and I have in common is our obsession with using fear as a positive force. In this episode, Marc shares some of the neuroscience and psychology that helps explains why fear shows up and how you can channel it. It’s a game-changer. As you’ll see, this all tracks back to our tribal roots. There’s a wake up call right there… because the voice that tells you that you can’t do something stems from just a tiny bundle of cells. The rest of your incredible brain isn’t being used. It’s why - as Marc says - positive psychology can only explain so much. The rest of it, you just gotta get out there and life your life. You’ve got to go with the ups, the downs, and the all arounds!P.S. Make sure you listen right to the end of this episode and you’ll discover how to grab a FREE copy of Marc’s upcoming book.“We are built to grow. We are not built to stay the same. We are built to evolve”Some questions I ask:How did you get into positive psychology? [4:29]How did you flip your us v them mentality to one that’s more inclusive and warm? [12:35]How does separating suffering from growing pains link back to finding your purpose? [17:14]If we’re meant to grow together, how does solo growth fit into the mix and what’s a good balance between the two? [20:15]How do you reframe loneliness and turn it into something you can positively use to find happiness and fulfillment? [24:30]How do you turn yourself into someone who’s never surprised by change so you can embrace change in your own life? [29:05]How do you build belief in your own life and how do you keep fostering that spirit so that you can continue moving forward as you evolve and grow? [31:42]How do you train yourself to savor moments? [38:50]Once you figured out the distinction between pain and suffering, did you ever have a point in your life when you got pulled back? [44:35]In the midst of everything you’ve gone through, how do you remember to stay grounded? [49:50]In this episode, you will hear about:What Marc saw was working and how that framed his future life. [6:24]How Marc got to play in the ‘best Asian band in the south.’ [8:38]‘What went wrong?” The song lyrics that summed up Marc’s life and helped him make a shift. [10:10]How Michael Jackson helped Marc figure out what he wanted to do. [11:05]Marc’s ‘weak minded view’ of social justice. [12:15]Why a conversation about a student’s best class made Marc so angry. [13:51]How Marc sees happiness - and the problem with goal setting. [15:23]The difference between loneliness and solitude - and why the difference matters. [21:05]Why you should feel the feels and why judgement is all part of that. [25:40]The sure-fire way of going to your deathbed with regrets. [28:00]Why we get scared by other people’s success. [30:30]Kaisan, the importance of 1%, and the value of micro moments. [36:28]How to proactively use pain to grow. [42:30]Why the Hero’s Journey is a spiral, NOT a cycle. Today, on Activate Bold Choices: The ABC's To Live Life Fearlessly your host Robin Joy welcomes her guest Marc Cordon, a positive psychology coach, and together they will explore topics like happiness, growth, reinvention, fear and much more.
When you think of happiness, what comes first in your mind—a yellow smiley face, self-help books, sunshine, and rainbows? The conversation around the field of happiness has been evolving in the past 20 years and events such as The World Happiness Summit have brought leaders in positive psychology and more to share their own research and personal practices to sustaining happiness and well-being. Turns out it’s not about being happy all the time, and these researchers/experts aren’t the happiest people in the world either! So, where and how do you find REAL happiness, the kind that lasts a lifetime? Listen in as today’s guests include three professionals who’ve attended this year’s World Happiness Summit and share their proven perspectives to finding such happiness. First is business breakthrough coach, Aliya Levinson Kehoe, who helps small businesses think big. She works with new coaches who struggle with a lack of direction and clarity and would like to successfully launch their coaching practice and attract all their first paying clients quickly with ease and confidence. Second is personal development coach, Samantha Inch, who helps young women that are stuck and unfulfilled to redesign their lives so they can live with purpose and live on purpose. Samantha’s passion for helping young women comes from her own transformation working in Corporate America. Last, but definitely not least, is positive psychology coach, professional speaker, and founder of Make Money Coaching program, Marc Cordon. He’s the international bestselling author of Beyond Resilient: The Coach’s Guide to Ecstatic Growth, has received his Bachelors in Science in neuroscience and behavioral biology, as well as a Masters in public health and policy management. Let the happy conversation begin! Key takeaways: The happiness-when syndrome. I’ll be happy when I get the promotion/find that perfect someone/have the money to travel, when I (fill in the blank). It’s easy to get lost in the cycle of an unending happiness quest. Where does it end and how can you start to break free? Begin HERE… [12:59]. The happiness misconception. Going on a first date, getting a raise, eating your favorite dessert—these moments give you instant gratification but the pleasure’s fleeting. So much of what we’re taught is that happiness is linked to our external world and not sustainable. Ready to know true happiness? THIS is what happiness really is…[18:43]. The happiness game. You’ve discovered the real meaning of happiness and you’ve done the soul searching to identify what actually fulfills you internally and externally, but you’re still NOT happy. What’s the deal? Avoid THESE signs when you’re on your happiness quest…[27:17]. The happiness strategy. If you’re happy and you know it, is clapping your hands the only thing you should do to sustain it? The panelists reveal their most insightful daily/weekly practices to maintain and build happiness throughout your life. The full spectrum of happiness tips and exercises revealed at…[50:14]. For many, happiness can seem like an intangible (unreachable) target set far off in the distance. Everyone wants to be happy. You don't have to be a Harvard professor to know that. Or do you??? Dr. Tal-Ben Shahar actually taught a class at Harvard on the science and experience of happiness. It was one of the most popular courses at Harvard . . . EVER. Lucky for us, we won't have to pay Harvard money to access Tal's insights and wisdom. All we have to do is click a button. This week we'd like to invite you to a sneak peek of the world's first certification in happiness as we partner with Tal and his team to launch the Happiness Studies Academy's Certificate in Happiness Studies program. Fellow iPEC Coach, Marc Cordon joins Lauren for a unfiltered and raw discussion about their paths to becoming coaches. For Marc, a career in academia brought success but a feeling that left him feeling burnt out, angry and wanting something else. After pursuing coaching certification, Marc found himself drawn to the misfits, rebels and ostensible iconoclasts who want to serve the greater good. Today he does just that and has written a book about the process, "Beyond Resilience." www.iambeyondresilient.com Feel free to reach out to Marc for a free copy of Beyond Resilient: marc@marccordon.com If you'd like to support this podcast, please visit our Patreon Page. www.patreon.com/thespitfirepodcast
