TCW Podcast Episode 229 - US Gold US Gold started as an importer of American games before becoming a dominant force in the British gaming industry. Partnering with Ocean Software, they formed a duopoly that shaped the UK and European gaming markets, bringing top titles to 8-bit computers and later expanding into consoles—US Gold backing SEGA while Ocean focused on Nintendo. When competitors began importing Japanese games, US Gold responded by securing a deal with Capcom to port its arcade hits to home computers. As its parent company, CentreGold, went public, US Gold also acquired Core Design—unknowingly setting the stage for gaming history. Because within Core, something legendary was in development: Tomb Raider. Join us as we dive into the rise of US Gold, its influence on British gaming, and its unexpected connection to one of gaming's biggest icons. Ocean Software gave us some memorable games back in the 8 and 16 bit era of gaming. With the passing of one of its co-founders David Ward we talk about some Ocean greats. We also cover the end of the line for the Apple iPod, an expensive way to stop cheats on N64 Goldeneye and could we be about to see an unfinished Duke Nukem game? All this and our community question of the week.

Ocean Software legend and bloody nice bloke Gary Bracey joins Del and myself for a chinwag and reveals why he'll never own an Apple product.
Eric invites the boys over for our first official book club. We're drinking wine, eating gluten free cookies, and playing his first book club selection: Ocean Software's 1991 "classic" (?) Hook. The sleepover antics don't stop there: Eric asks Alex and Matt questions, promptly yells at them, makes everything wonder why we're playing this god-forsaken game based on a Robin Williams movie from 1991, and in the end nearly (almost. not really.) has a cathartic moment. Also: Elden Ring! The Peterpaniverse! Buying games as children! And some real honest-to-goodness conversation about game design. Wouldn't you know it, we walk away appreciating the artistry of our lovely Itch.io developers and their access to game development tools and resources. On that note: our cause this week is The Bundle for Ukraine, on Itch.io. If you haven't purchased it yet, what are you waiting for? Support an important cause during a dire time, play games alongside the podcast, and receive an absolute treasure trove of incredible indie gems. All proceeds from this bundle will be split between the following charities: International Medical Corps provides medical assistance in the region. They have very low fundraising overhead (1% of income), with 89% of donations going to medical aid and 10% to administration. Voices of Children, a Ukrainian organization that helps children cope with the horrors of war, PTSD, readjusting to school, and getting back to being kids. They have also been doing a lot of grassroots impromptu work during the war, such as helping set up shelters. Our hope is that this war will be over soon, and they can begin the work of healing these kids' hearts.
Some podcasters just want to watch the world burn. We just want to talk about Batman. With the newest Bat-flick coming in March, fellow mega-Bat-fan Paul and I wanted to walk through Batman's history in video games. We do kind of breeze through the entire history of Batman games, but we focus most of our discussion on the games we've played (or that seem odd or important). We also talk more broadly about our own history with the character and universe, our favorite villains and Batman actors, toys, and all kinds of other Bat-details. We also talk about Sony's acquisition of Bungie, which Nintendo character we think would start an OnlyFans, Hitman 2 and 3, and more. Contact us: prettypixelspodcast@gmail.com We're on Twitter: @Losperman (Joey) The timestamps below are mostly only for major discussion points. Episode.
TCW Podcast Episode 136 - Ocean Software We look at the company Ocean Software. The company was founded by David Ward and Jon Woods as Spectrum Games, and was later renamed to Ocean Software. The company specialized in a mail order business harnessing the best of the bedroom coder scene in Brittan to produce ports of popular arcade titles. In fact the initial offering of the company were clones of Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Frogger, and Missile Command. The company continued to grow as Ocean Software expanding into licensed games including popular properties such as Platoon, Robocop, and Jurassic Park. However the company was unable to compete with larger companies on the global stage. This lead to their purchase by Infrogrames during that company's rapid expansion. However after a few years of semi-autonomy Ocean Software ceased to be in the late 90's. Paul Owens was the first developer in the Ocean Software stable having started out at Spectrum Games, the company which would become Ocean. He created such titles as Daley Thompson's Decathlon and Short Circuit on the ZX Spectrum while creating the development tools needed to streamline a relentless release schedule, all of which he shares with us today. ● Support RMC on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/RetroManCave ● Treat me to a Coffee with Ko-Fi: http://ko-fi.com/retromancave ● Leave a tip on Paypal: https://paypal.me/RetroManCave ● Cave Links YouTube - https://youtube.com/retromancave Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRetroManCave Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theretromancave/ Discord: https://discord.gg/7qYtGcz RMC Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheRetroManCave ● Episode Links Ocean: The History book - https://fusionretrobooks.com/products/the-history-of-ocean-software ● Retro Island Diskettes - https://audioboom.com/channels/5001240 ● Youtube: https://youtube.com/retromancave
PROFILES SUPPLY CHAIN CONVERSATIONS ————————————————— EPISODE 6 GRAHAM PARKER, CO-FOUNDER & CEO AT AWARD-WINNING OCEAN SOFTWARE PLATFORM KONTAINERS ————————————————— Welcome to Episode 6 of Profiles, a podcast centered around supply chain conversations hosted by Brian Glick, founder and CEO of Chain.io. Our guest this week is Graham Parker, Co-Founder and CEO at award winning Ocean Software platform Kontainers. Listen in as Brian and Graham discuss: The differences between supply chain logistics systems in the US and the UK How a lot of people who get into the supply chain industry begin with dreams of global trade and currencies and maybe they picture something from a movie, but when they actually start the first day and see the pile of paperwork some of them don’t make it to lunch time. So — what was it about the logistics industry that made Graham stay? Who influenced Graham in his career What inspired Graham to create something new in the world of supply chain logistics Everything takes longer than you think (what Graham knows now that he wish he’d known when he started in supply chain logistics) The importance of setting appropriate expectations up front Whether venture capital investors are patient enough to support logistics projects that don’t yield return for several years Learning moments and challenges over the last 5 years Managing expectations allowed them to not grow too fast so that now they are in charge of the destiny of their business It’s easy to over-raise capital too early The importance of having senior management that understands the tech space as well as the freight space Whether or not a few mega-companies could corner the market in the freight industry like Amazon has done, or if there is room for several companies in the space The trajectory the freight and logistics industry should be taking in order to survive in the future Learn More About Graham Parker and Kontainers: LinkedIn Kontainers Subscribe to the podcast in iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts so that you’re updated when we post a new episode! Take care, and until next time, Brian Glick, CEO chain.io

Jurassic Park is an American franchise centering on a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. It began in 1990 when Universal Studios bought the rights to the novel by Michael Crichton before it was even published. The book was successful, as was the 1993 film adaptation, which led to three sequels, although the third and fourth films were not based on novels, as the first two were. The software developers Ocean Software, BlueSky Software, Sega of America, and Telltale Games have had the rights to develop video games since the 1993 film, and numerous games have been produced.--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/southarcadia/support

Großes Kino also!
