"Writing with a physicality of language that moves like the body in dance, Rebe Huntman, a poet, choreographer, and dancer, embarks on a pilgrimage into the mysteries of the gods and saints of Cuba and their larger spiritual view of 'the Mother.' Huntman offers a window into the extraordinary yet seldom-seen world of Afro-Cuban gods and ghosts and the dances and rhythms that call them forth. As she explores the memory of her own mother, interlacing it with her search for the sacred feminine, Huntman leads us into a world of séance and sacrifice, pilgrimage and sacred dance, which resurrect her mother and bring Huntman face to face with a larger version of herself." LUKE 2:8-20 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, I will bring you good news of greta joy that will be for all people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Christ the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." 13 Suddenly a greta company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.  FROM THE LESSON Signs in the Bible - when something was too good to be true and too great to be real, a sign was given to encourage and to confirm belief. Parabola of Salvation - the good news of the incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and the ascension. The good news of the gospel includes a manger, a cross, an empty tomb, and a crown. Presence Matters - the good news of the manger is that presence matters to God. When God seems distant to you, let the manger remind you of the distance God came to be with you. Donkey Dish - the word "manger" comes from a Latin word meaning "to eat" or "to chew." The manger was a feeding trough for dirty animals.  The Helper - "Is anyone crying for help? God is listening and He is ready to rescue you. If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there; and if you're kicked in the gut, he'll help you catch your breath." Psalm 34:17-18 (The Message) DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1 Icebreaker: What is the closest you have ever been to a United States president? Share the details with your group. 2 Has God ever seemed distant to you? Have you ever been through a season in your life when God felt distant and far away? Share the details with your group. 3 The nearness of the King means He has come to be with us. Talk about the importance of God's presence with your group. 4 The nearness of the King means He has come to know us and to be known by us. Discuss both the humility and the accessibility of the manger. 5 The nearness of the King means He has come to help us. The Greek word for Helper means one who is called alongside to help (to comfort, to encourage, to empower, to sustain). How have you experienced the help of the Lord?

Alex Yaseen of Parabola talks about his founder journey; the future of spreadsheets; empowering teams with workflow control; and embracing AI.    IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:   [07.34] An introduction to Alex, his background, and the journey that led him to found Parabola. “Most people seem to engage with new tech with fear and a lack of agency… People describe fighting against technology. And that's a shame, because you could have such a positive, productive, empowering relationship with technology once you know how to use it.” [12.48] The challenges Alex saw as a consultant at Deloitte, and the problems he still sees across the industry, when it comes to people and technology. “Even at Fortune 50 companies, people were still doing incredibly non-scalable, crazy, manual processes on spreadsheets.” [16.46] An overview of Parabola – who they are, what they do and how they help their customers – and Alex's take on the mismatch between operations and IT that Parabola is helping to solve. [21.09] The growing importance of AI, and how Parabola are integrating it into their solution with impact in mind. “Combining two things together is important – the ability to grab the data, and the ability to action on it.” [26.16] The ideal client for Parabola. [28.23] A closer look at the Parabola platform, its intuitive drag-and-drop workflow, and how teams can use it. [31.37] Why integration isn't something you need to be scared of with Parabola. “When people hear the word ‘integration' they get scared. It's normally a big long process, you have to work with your IT team and they're going to get mad at you… We want to do things differently.” [34.23] How the Parabola platform can help supply chain teams optimize processes from scorecarding and management to audits and track and trace. [39.43] From improving productivity and facilitating growth, to saving time and giving teams ownership over their own workflows, the impact of that optimization on businesses and their bottom lines. “Operations people are probably the most important people at a company – they know how things work and have great ideas… We're trying to shine a spotlight onto them… And our best users have a track record of being promoted pretty quickly.” [42.05] The impact of leveraging the power of Parabola on the industry. [45.02] A case study detailing how Parabola helped a large retail brand achieve multiple levels of ROI – saving them money, but also boosting team engagement and job satisfaction, and helping the Director of Operations get a better seat at the table in leadership conversations. [49.51] From AI to nurturing a better understanding of business problems, what we can expect from the industry in 2025. “Increasingly, the hard thing within companies is actually understanding the problem... It's that knowledge of what's important within the company, and having people on your team who know where the bodies are buried! Companies who are great at cultivating and empowering their people are going to rise to the surface.” RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED:   Head over to Parabola's website now to find out more and discover how they could help you too.

«Come posso illustrarvelo?

"For brief periods, when life breaks our way, it can feel as if we are finally getting somewhere. We may feel that we are finally becoming someone who understands this crazy life. With this self-image securely in place, we may decide that we are good and life is good and that we can share this with others. But things change. A voice or relationship or job or health is lost." One morning in 2018, writer and meditation teacher Tracy Cochran woke up with little audible voice and just a faint, breathy whisper. In a matter of hours, she was supposed to tell a story and teach mindfulness meditation at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan. Concerned about how she would be able to lead on stage, the moment became another one for Tracy to take refuge in her practice of the past fifty years - to return home to the present moment with an open heart and mind through the sensation of breath. She accepted the circumstances, proceeding with the scheduled engagement. "I told people to lean in, as if I was on my deathbed and about to tell them the secret of life, and they did. All but one person stayed." In her blog post "Speechless", Tracy reflects, "Meditation and spiritual practice have been called death in life. We die to the hope that our life is taking us somewhere. We let go and allow ourselves to open to a new life, a shared life." In fact, Tracy learned to let go and open to new life many decades ago during her twenties, when a near-death experience turned into a pivotal turning point. While being mugged by three men on a deserted street in Manhattan one night, her heart opened to "a kind of feeling that cannot be created or destroyed by anyone, only received." "Behind the abandoned tenements, behind my attackers, behind all the appearances in this world, there was a gorgeous luminosity," Tracy wrote in "The Night I Died ". "It was clear to me that this light was the force that holds up the world, into which all separation dissolves." In her recently released book Presence: The Art of Being at Home in Yourself , Tracy shares stories and suggested practices for taking refuge in moments of presence even in the midst of difficult challenges, thus illuminating deeper truths, grounding us, and making deeper connection possible. The book has been acclaimed by people as diverse as Martin Scorsese (famous Hollywood director who is a regular reader of Tracy's writings), to Sufi teacher Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, and including several meditation teachers like Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, Sharon Salzberg, and Jack Kornfield. Tracy is the editorial director of Parabola, an acclaimed quarterly magazine that draws on the world's cultural and wisdom traditions to explore the deeper questions all humans share. She has taught and led workshops at the Getty Museum in addition to the Rubin Museum of Art, New York Insight Meditation Center, the Jacob Burns Film Center, and at corporations, schools, and medical facilities. She is the founder of the Hudson River Sangha, which is now online and open to all. She also offers one-on-one mindfulness mentoring and teaching. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Psychology Today, O Magazine, New York magazine, Boston Review, and many book anthologies and podcasts. Her essays and offerings can be found on parabola.org and tracycochran.org. "One of the most liberating things that's happened is that I've gotten over the aspiration to be special. The more I embrace my common, flawed humanity, the happier I am. And the more awake and aware I am." Then she adds, with a laugh, "I've discovered that I love being totally average. Even in the slow end of average. I love it. I'm so happy." Our upcoming guest believes that we all have within us, "an enormous capacity" to heal and open our lives, by tapping into presence - "the wellspring of our deepest wisdom and compassion". Join us for a dialogue with this presence activist, writer, and meditation teacher on July 6th, in conversation with Richard Whittaker and Rahul Brown .

Joe Allen discusses his book Dark Aeon and how he thinks that this idea of gnosticism as the all-encompassing boogeyman and blanket-term for everything one dislikes is misconstrued. Throughout history gnostic groups have differed with each other. This obsession with gnosis particularly becomes problematic and unhealthy when transferred into conspiracy culture. The idea that some today promote of Marxism or wokism or transhumanism as just being gnosticism re-branded might be too simplistic, this conflation is cheap and wrongheaded. In some ways the goals of technocratic transhumanism clash with gnosticism. There should be distinctions between big tech, technocracy, transhumanism and gnosticism. Going forward, we'll be hard-wiring our brains to artificial intelligence systems.” GUEST: Joe Allen is an author and blogger who writes on the future of humanity, artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and other technology based topics. He has written for Chronicles, The Federalist, Human Events, The National Pulse, Parabola, Salvo, and Protocol: The Journal of the Entertainment Technology Industry. In this episode I am reading from Elizabeth Bodien's book 'Bigger Pete: Conversations Between Life and Afterlife'.When Pete was asleep, Elizabeth was in hypnotic trance, communicating through a psychic practice known as automatic writing. Bigger Pete is Elizabeth Bodien's parapsychological memoir about communicating with her brother over the last eight years of his life—and into the afterlife.Families and friends of people with Down syndrome will relish the loving communication between Pete, who had Down syndrome, and his sister Elizabeth. Caregivers of people with late-stage Alzheimer's will also recognize their own struggles in this personal story. Others in conversation with Elizabeth include Pete's deceased parents and Pete's higher self, identified as Bigger Pete. How can you communicate with someone who has passed on? In Bigger Pete: Conversations Between Life and Afterlife, Bodien addresses the question by writing from her personal experience and aiding those dealing with the loss of a loved one.Are you curious about what happens when people die and what happens next? Bigger Pete might not have the only answer, but it does have at least one answer.BioElizabeth Bodien is the author of two books of poetry: Blood, Metal, Fiber, Rock and Oblique Music: A Book of Hours and one non-fiction work: Journeys with Fortune: A Tale of Other Lives, a collection of her past lives experienced while in hypnotic trance. Her poems, essays, and book reviews have appeared in Cimarron Review, Crannóg, and Parabola, among other publications in the USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and India. She holds degrees in cultural anthropology, consciousness studies, religions, and poetry, and has worked as an English instructor in Japan, an organic farmer in the Oregon mountains, a childbirth instructor in West Africa, a Montessori teacher, and as a professor of cultural anthropology. Bodien, who grew up in the “burned over” district of western New York, now lives near Hawk Mountain, Pennsylvania, USA.Amazon link https://tinyurl.com/3xn4bmsnhttps://elizabethbodien.com/https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/pastlivespodcast
