One project being mentioned for the Apple tax windfall is the Shannon pipeline project to pump water from our longest river to Dublin and the eastern counties. Uisce Éireann has already spent nearly 70 million euro on preparing its planning application. However the plan has once again aroused concerns in the Tipperary and Lough Derg areas.

"I'm sympathetic to what they're doing while recognizing there's a better way to do it." Those are the words of Jason Bohrer, president of the North Dakota Lignite Energy Council, and advocacy and lobbying group that represents the state's coal industry. He was speaking on this episode of Plain Talk about the Midwest Carbon Express pipeline proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions. That project has no ties to the coal industry. Rather, it seeks to bring carbon emissions gathered from ethanol plans across the upper midwest to North Dakota where it would be buried underground. Bohrer joined the program to discuss the controversy around the North Dakota Republican Party's resolution branding carbon capture as "fascism." The resolution had appeared to have been passed at the party's state convention earlier this month, but after a recount, it turns out it failed. But Bohrer says Lignite's larger concern is that public backlash against Summit's project may turn into generalized opposition against the concept of carbon capture. "An individual project differs from a technological opportunity," he said. "We're going to take a long term view," he added. Also on this episode, two board members from the North Dakota Association for Justice joined to discuss consternation in North Dakota's legal circles over Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller's gubernatorial campaign saying some ugly things about lawyers. "Politicians and trial lawyers often struggle with the truth," is a quote Miller spokesman Dawson Schefter gave me for an article about their campaign ad attacking their opponent in the Republican primary. "Kelly Armstrong is both, so it's no surprise he lies about his opponent and his opponent's ads." The NDAJ fired back, calling those comments "ill-informed and ignorant." Then Schefter came back again. “It's no surprise lawyers and politicians are sticking up for each other," he told me in response to the NDAJ's statement. "While Kelly Armstrong was raking in cash defending drug dealers, a man who beat his wife unconscious, and a man who attempted to suffocate his daughter — Tammy Miller was growing a company and creating thousands of jobs. Job creator or trial lawyer is an easy choice.” "Frankly, we were offended," attorney Tatum O'Brien said. "She probably has a failing campaign," attorney Tim O'Keefe added by way of explaining why Miller's campaign would launch the attack. Both O'Brien and O'Keefe are board members of the NDAJ, and say that attorneys do important work defending the rights of citizens in court, from the 4th amendment protections against illegal search and seizure to our 7th amendment right to seek a jury trial in matters of civil law. Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week's Project Censored Show. In the first segment, Crystal Mello provides an update on the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a project that once appeared stalled by opposition, but was revived by Congress. It would deliver fracked natural gas from West Virginia into Virginia. Crystal Mello says the pipeline's construction has disrupted local water supplies, and brought numerous other ill effects. She also says local media are spreading false information about the project. Later in the program, Carla Joy Bergman explains the concept of “adult supremacy,” pointing out that society still sanctions age discrimination against its youngest members. She proposes instead recognition and respect for children's' autonomy, especially in schools. The News That Didn't Make the News. Each week, co-hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips conduct in depth interviews with their guests and offer hard hitting commentary on the key political, social, and economic issues of the day with an emphasis on critical media literacy. The US signalled that it will not back the EastMed pipeline which planned to carry 10 billion cubic meters of gas every year from the eastern Mediterranean to Europe. The project was expected to be touted as an alternative to Russian natural gas and bypass Turkiye and the TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus). As Turkish President Recep Tayyip echoed those remarks, he added that transporting gas from the eastern Mediterranean to Europe can't be done without Turkiye. Was the project more about politics than economics? And how will the US stance affect long-running tensions in the region? Currently, 40 percent of the Las Vegas Valley gets its water through the South Valley Lateral (SVL) transmission system. While the rest of Southern Nevada's water transmission laterals have redundant facilities to ensure water delivery in the event of an emergency, the SVL is a single-feed system. In 2017, a leak in the pipeline required the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) to coordinate major repairs with the City of Henderson and Las Vegas Valley Water District to keep water flowing to customers. The SNWA is constructing the Horizon Lateral to work in tandem with the SVL to provide system redundancy and increase reliability to the south part of the valley. Doa Ross, SNWA Deputy General Manager of Engineering, and Adriana Ventimiglia, Senior Program Engineer, talk about the planning and construction of this massive infrastructure project and its impacts on the economy and jobs in Southern Nevada.

Introducing the Pipeline Project podcast.
Nearly 15 years ago, there was a major oil reserve discovery in Uganda. In September 2020, Uganda and Tanzania finally signed an agreement for a construction of crude oil pipeline from Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. This $3.5 billion dollar project is led by Total. Environmentalists and a number of local communities have been opposing the project for several years.
Minnesota environmental regulators issued several key permits Thursday that just about clear the way for Enbridge Energy to build its controversial Line 3 oil pipeline. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Pollution Control Agency both approved permits for the Line 3 project. This is the MPR News afternoon update for Nov. 12, 2020. Hosted by Nina Moini. Theme music by Gary Meister.

This week on City Limits, Kevin and Karina invite Julia Stockigt, secretary of Save Westernport Inc, to discuss their fight against AGL's proposal to import and process gas at Crib Point, and to construct gas pipeline which means probable destruction for life and community in many parts of Victoria. Victorians have set a record for number of submissions in an environmental assessment process, and it is clear, with vocal opposition from many groups and councils including the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, that this dirty gas terminal needs to go. There is a long way to go, however, with state and federal leaders having the final say, and speculation that unfavourable, unsustainable and unecessary projects are being pushed through 'under the cover of COVID'.Here is a list of the company's convictions and fines, up until January 2020. You can access Save Westernport's submission against AGL's environmental effects statement here.Mornington Peninsula Shire Council recently voted unanimously to reject the AGL proposal, stating: The EES “is a weak analysis and gives us no confidence that the environmental impacts of this project can be acceptably managed",that AGL has even "failed to make a strong case for the need to import gas"and "AGL’s Import Jetty and Pipeline Project poses an unacceptable risk to the environment for unproven economic and resource gains".The Council is encouraging everyone to write to the Minister/s to tell them why AGL does NOT belong in Westernport. For the Ministers’ email addresses and suggestions for what to write, see box 3 ‘Write to Local State and Federal MP's’ here.Quotes from councillors:“It is time that the State Government finally listened to their community and scrapped this project before serious damage is done to Western Port Bay, tourism, the fishing industry and people living and working at Crib Point.""All of our State Government Members of Parliament should make their position clear. Will they support their local community and now work to prevent their Government’s approval?”The next step in the fight to STOP AGL in Westernport will be the panel hearings beginning on the 12th October.Later, Adjunct Associate Professor Paddy Moriarty joins the discussion with a background on the 'cleanliness' of natural gas as a power source, methane and carbon dioxide, and Australia's energy usage levels. Access Dr. Moriarty's published work from the past 45 years here and here.

So this is our time to talk about the things that matter most to you as a professional project manager. Our guests are involved in all types of projects, big and small, but what they have in common is this, they've all experienced what you've experienced – challenges, roadblocks, and victories. We talk with the movers and shakers in the industry. And alongside me is one with some pretty fancy moves himself, Bill Yates. BILL YATES: I don't know about that. You don't want to see me on the dance floor. That's an ugly thing. Man, I'm so excited about this podcast today. This hits on a topic, and we'll get into it more, but this reminds me of one of my favorite authors, Clive Cussler, so he's written a series of books that involve underwater exploration. NICK WALKER: Yeah. BILL YATES: And a superhero named Dirk Pitt, so we're going to talk to a couple guys that remind me of Dirk Pitt. Oceaneering NICK WALKER: Real-life superheroes, yeah. All right. And their names are Brian Loos and Joe Campbell. Oceaneering International, Incorporated, which began in the 1960s as a small regional diving company in the Gulf of Mexico, then grew to become a global provider of engineered products and services. So Oceaneering International deals with all the services associated with the lifecycle of an offshore oilfield, from drilling to decommissioning. They operate the world's premier fleet of work-class ROVs, or remotely operated vehicles, and they are also a frontrunner in offshore oilfield maintenance services and subsea hardware. Meet Joe So let's first meet Joe Campbell, he's the senior project manager with Oceaneering's Subsea Project Group. He has 30 years of subsea construction and maintenance experience in diving and ROV projects. Joe has worked with Oceaneering for six years, working on projects in Azerbaijan, Trinidad, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania. Now, I know that Bill wants to talk with you more about the Project Management Center of Excellence. But before we get into that, let's hear a little bit more about Oceaneering. I see that one of your company slogans on the website is “We solve the unsolvable.” I love that. So you've recently been involved in a pretty complex and challenging project. A subsea deepwater pipeline repair operation off the shores of West Africa. Was that for all intents and purposes the type of project that some people might think of as unsolvable? JOE CAMPBELL: Well, that's a good question. For us it's not unsolvable because this is something we do every day. We have the pipeline clamps that we manufacture for Oceaneering. So we have the project management group that installs them, puts them in, we manage the vessels.

During the interview Louis mentioned a few items that we wanted to specifically call out in our show notes in case you wanted to learn a little more about them. Who is Wes Anderson? Learn more about the 108˚ Rule in cinematography. Learn more about the Wacom Cintiq tablet which Pixar animators utilize.
