Ukrainians know Russia better than anyone. Ukrainians know Russia's strengths and weaknesses. Ukrainians know what deters Russia and what doesn't. Ukrainians therefore know best how to secure peace. Today I'm speaking to a rare breed of politician, one that understands the scale of threat to Europe Russia represents and is not afraid of expressing these truths to power in an impactful way. ---------- Gabrielius Landsbergis is a Lithuanian politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania from December 2020 until November 2024. He is also a former Member of the European Parliament (2014–2016), where he served on the Committee on International Trade and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Landsbergis was a vocal advocate for European integration, NATO solidarity, and democratic values. His tenure was characterized by Lithuania's firm support for Ukraine during the ongoing Russian invasion, as well as efforts to counter Russian influence in the region. ---------- LINKS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabrielius_Landsbergis https://x.com/GLandsbergis https://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/124759/GABRIELIUS_LANDSBERGIS/history/8 https://cepa.org/author/gabrielus-landsbergis/ https://www.coe.int/en/web/portal/-/cm-president-landsbergis-collective-effort-needed-to-ensure-sustainable-peace-and-respect-for-human-rights https://www.politico.eu/article/lithuania-gabrielius-landsbergis-resign-election-parliament-defeat/ ---------- SILICON CURTAIN FILM FUNDRAISER A project to make a documentary film in Ukraine, to raise awareness of Ukraine's struggle and in supporting a team running aid convoys to Ukraine's frontline towns. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras ---------- SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain ---------- TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND: Save Ukraine https://www.saveukraineua.org/ Superhumans - Hospital for war traumas https://superhumans.com/en/ UNBROKEN - Treatment. They also examine Kyle and Will Porter's latest articles on U.S.-Europe-Russia relations. Kyle breaks down the status of Vienna's JCPOA talks. The Iranians have said there has been progress, but significant issues remain including namely the scope of necessary sanctions relief. The U.S. hawks in the legislative branch are screeching against Biden's tentative decision to lift sanctions. Senators Ted Cruz and Bob Menendez are blatantly attempting to subvert Biden's putative Iran agenda. U.S. officials in the media are warning Iran's breakout time to build a nuclear bomb – a weapon they are not seeking - has been greatly reduced. Israel is also threatening to continue attacking Iran in various ways including “targeted killings.” Kyle reports on the status of Biden's economic war on Venezuela. The U.S. still backs the would be puppet Juan Guaido, who lacks support in the country and whose coup attempts infamously failed. A retired Venezuelan general involved in regime change efforts is now saying his plot had the CIA's full knowledge. Connor covers the Abraham Accords caucus, a bicameral, bipartisan group of lawmakers promoting an agenda that would require the State Department to promote further normalization between Israel and Arab States. This comes at a time when Israel is dealing with the fallout of multiple human rights organizations issuing reports detailing Israeli apartheid. The caucus and their agenda is backed by myriad Zionist special interest groups and even the Atlantic Council. The phony peace deals are merely a way to throw Palestinians under the bus, encircle Iran, and sell arms to authoritarian regimes. Connor then interviews Kyle about his recent News Round Up articles on the tensions with Russia and the Ukraine crisis. Kyle analyzes the roles of Turkey and Germany in the crisis, potential THAAD anti-ballistic missile launcher deployments to Ukraine, various fractures in NATO, ongoing NATO military exercises mere tens of miles from Russia's borders, and recent provocative NATO troop movements. Europe is the foundation of American diplomacy. If the United States loses control of Europe, its hegemony will come to an end. Not only cannot the United States allow Europe to fall to China and Russia, it also does not allow Europe to become independent. One way that the United States controls Europe is the theory of pig raising, which is to say to the pigs that there is a fierce bear outside the pigpen. It is best to scare the pigs to trembling so that pigs can be raised easily. This is why the United States always plays up the Russian threat. Only by stigmatizing Russia and by constantly stimulating regional tensions will European countries rely more on the United States, and the United States will have a reason to station troops in Europe.I set up and operate this channel alone, hoping to share the real China with the world as well as clarify misconceptions and lies against China. The continued development of China is the biggest game-changer in this century that affects all aspects of everyone's lives. In the Atlantic ocean we have China preparing to invade Taiwan, in eastern Europe Russia preparing to invade Ukraine, and Iran moving ever closer to have a nuclear bomb. In Australia, COVID concentration camps have already been launched, and Twitter is censoring the American Heart Association for publishing a study proving the serious health and heart risks connected to the COVID vaccine. If you thought 2020 was scary and that 2021 has been a brutal flexing of authoritarian global muscle, you're not going to like 2022 at all. Today on the Prophecy News Podcast, we show you what's coming, and it's not pretty. His words were a stunning throwback to 1933 Nazi Germany. “We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike, to really do something bold to stop the further growth of COVID and the dangers it's causing to all of us,” de Blasio said in an interview with MSNBC. “So as of today, we're going to announce a first-in-the-nation measure. Our health commissioner will announce a vaccine mandate for private sector employers across the board.” https://www.nowtheendbegins.com/nteb-prophecy-news-podcast-new-york-city-becomes-first-to-force-private-companies-to-forcibly-inject-their-employees-with-covid-vaccine-bill-deblasio/

Iran-backed Houthis stormed the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and took hostages—another American installation in the Middle East taken over by Islamists and a black eye for America. Tensions between Europe and Russia are heating up dramatically. Russia is deliberately aggravating a migrant crisis by encouraging migrants from Belarus into Poland, it is intensifying an energy crisis by withholding gas, and it is threatening war to prevent Ukraine from joining the NATO alliance. Europe's foreign-policy chief is proposing European military units that can be deployed without the agreement of all 27 EU member states, another step toward a unified European military. We also talk about Barack Obama's radical address at the Glasgow climate summit, Xi Jinping clearing hurdles to secure indefinite rule over China, Iran smuggling arms into Somalia to extend its influence on the Horn of Africa, and Joe Biden claiming that spending $1.2 trillion will save Americans money. With Parade Of The Old New, artist Zoe Beloff has created a panoramic history painting documenting the depths of the Trump years. We get into the impetus for that project, its enormous scale (140 feet long), its Brechtian roots, and its reproduction as a 19-foot accordion book (available only from Booklyn). We talk about notions of rights and responsibilities for artists, the debate over displaying Philip Guston's work, the angry e-mail Zoe received from a white male Marxist that critiqued her for "her own benefit", and why Parade Of The Old New is getting exhibited in Europe & Russia but not America. We also dive into her fascination with artists and thinkers of the interwar era, like Bertolt Brecht & Walter Benjamin, her family's refugee history and why it left her feeling like a Rootless Cosmpolitan, the ways she interweaves painting, film, installation, picture-storytelling (or cartooning) and other forms, the vision of NYC that brought her to the city in her 20s from Scotland, and why being a story-scavenger rather than an inventor means she gets to live in the worlds of her art. Also, we talk about her new multimedia project to celebrate essential workers, my no-fly list for pod-guests, why telling her mother and grandmother's refugee story is the closest she'll come to autobiography, and a LOT more. Russian natural gas exports are once again high on the agenda. Russia is completing two new pipelines to Europe, just inaugurated a new gas pipeline to China, and is boosting its presence in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. All this is happening as the outlook for gas in Europe is being upended by new supplies and routes, by new rules and regulations, and by an ambitious decarbonization agenda that will reshape the role of gas in the European energy system, and thus the relationship with Russia. The Europe-Russia relationship has always had a political and geopolitical dimension, ever since the Soviet Union first supplied gas to Western Europe in the late 1960s. “Yet to boil down the subject of Russian-European gas relations to geopolitics is to miss a large part of the story,” writes Thane Gustafson, a professor of government at Georgetown University and a Senior Director at IHS Markit, in his new book The Bridge: Natural Gas in a Redivided Europe (Harvard University Press, 2020). He continues to say: “The gas revolution in Europe has deep roots, which originated quite independently of Russia, and are only distantly related to geopolitics.” This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.

At the end of 2018 the European Union launched a “war against disinformation” in an attempt to protect the upcoming European Parliament elections in May 2019. The proposed measures include a rapid alert system to support member states in identifying disinformation campaigns, an increased budget of €5m for the detection of disinformation, and pressure on tech companies to get on board with weeding out “fake news.” Are these measures too little, too late? How concerned do we actually need to be about disinformation in Europe? Russia has often been pointed to as a main source of disinformation but are there other countries or actors that we need to be worried about? And what about the voters in the 28 member states? What can be done to equip them to navigate the digital landscape and find accurate information to guide their voting? Can lessons learned from previous disinformation campaigns help us design better policy responses? Panelists Paul-Jasper Dittrich, Policy Fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute Berlin, Matthias Spielkamp, founder and executive director of AlgorithmWatch, and Rebekah Tromble, Assistant Professor in the Institute of Political Science at Leiden University, discussed these and other questions at the event chaired by Anita Gohdes, Professor of International and Cyber Security at the Hertie School of Governance.

"Since the turn of the millennium, and particularly over the last decade, no fewer than twenty-five democracies have failed around the world, three of them in Europe (Russia, Turkey and Hungary)... Can the West regain its optimism? If the answer is no – and most of the portents are skewing the wrong way – liberal democracy will follow. If the next few years resemble the last, it is questionable whether Western democracy can take the strain. People have lost faith that their systems can deliver. More and more are looking backwards to a golden age that can never be regained. When a culture stops looking to the future, it loses a vital force. The search for Eden always ends in tears." That's from The Retreat of Western Liberalism, a powerful, insightful and chilling book by Financial Times columnist, Edward Luce. Ben is with Eric Peters in Calgary to get to the bottom of the acclaimed bestseller. About the Book In his widely acclaimed book Time to Start Thinking, Financial Times chief US columnist and commentator Edward Luce charted the course of America's relative decline, proving to be a prescient voice on our current social and political turmoil. In The Retreat of Western Liberalism, Luce makes a larger statement about the weakening of western hegemony and the crisis of liberal democracy - of which Donald Trump and his European counterparts are not the cause, but a terrifying symptom. Luce argues that we are on a menacing trajectory brought about by ignorance of what it took to build the West, arrogance towards society's economic losers, and complacency about our system's durability - attitudes that have been emerging since the fall of the Berlin Wall. "We cannot move forward without a clear diagnosis of what has gone wrong. Unless the West can rekindle an economy that produces gains for the majority of its people, its political liberties may be doomed. The West's faith in history teaches us to take democracy for granted. Reality tells us something troublingly different. Combining on-the-ground reporting with intelligent synthesis of the literature and economic analysis, Luce offers a detailed projection of the consequences of the Trump administration, the rise of European populism, and a forward-thinking analysis of what those who believe in enlightenment values must do to defend them from the multiple onslaughts they face in the coming years."
