Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. D23 2026 was stacked — for the first time in a long while, Disney made major announcements for all six U.S. parks, plus Disney Cruise Line and a full lineup of movies. Mostly Film – Take 243: Harrison Ford In Review — Episode 4Peak Ford. Jonathan and JP cover the three-year stretch — 1992, 1993, 1994 — where Harrison Ford was the biggest movie star in the world outside of his own franchises. Combined worldwide gross across three films: approximately $572 million. All three opened at number one. One of them held number one for six consecutive weeks.First, Patriot Games. Alec Baldwin was unavailable due to a Broadway commitment, McTiernan left when Baldwin left, Tom Clancy publicly asked for his name removed from the production, and Ford stepped into Jack Ryan anyway. The original ending tested so badly they scrapped it entirely and reshot the climax — during which Ford accidentally hit Sean Bean in the face with a boat hook and gave him a scar that the Sharpe makeup department later leaned into for authenticity. The satellite strike sequence caused brief concern at the Pentagon. Roger Ebert complained about the Indiana Jones ending. The question: does Ford make Jack Ryan his own, or is he always playing Alec Baldwin's character?Then The Fugitive. Twenty-five drafts, nine writers, six editors, and a script that still wasn't finished when they started shooting. Baldwin, Costner, Douglas, and Nolte were all considered before Ford. Nobody involved had seen the original TV series. Tommy Lee Jones improvised "I don't care" during a freezing sewer sequence, told Joe Pantoliano nobody would win any awards for this film, then won the Oscar, the Golden Globe, and every critics' prize going. The train crash was 27 cameras, one take, no miniatures. The St. Patrick's Day parade was shot in the real parade with no rehearsal. Seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture. The only TV adaptation ever nominated for that award. The big question for the episode: is The Fugitive the best film Harrison Ford ever made outside of Star Wars and Indiana Jones?Then Clear and Present Danger — three screenwriters, Clancy still not fully happy, and Ford's own stated favourite of the two Jack Ryan films he made. A film whose central thesis is that telling the truth to Congress is more dangerous than participating in a cover-up. It felt provocative in 1994. It has dated extremely well.After 1994, Ford never made another Jack Ryan film. The question that hangs over the episode — and sets up Episode 5: what happens to Harrison Ford's career after the peak?

We have two Jangles this week from our movie maven. In the first, we learn about just how Jewish the classic rock band Rush is, and how it was played up at its Madison Square Garden concerts this week. In the second, we learn about Spider-Man's Jewish roots -- and the Member of the Tribe who is third billing in the new blockbuster. The main feature this week is 1979's "The Frisco Kid," an extremely Jewish take on the Wild West starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford. We learn how both actors are Jewish according to Jewish law, but only Wilder claimed Judaism as part of his identity. For legions of American Jews, "The Frisco Kid" held pride of place in their VHS libraries. From all-Yiddish scenes to a deadly fight for a Torah scroll, the film was an outlier in mainstream Hollywood. So how did it get made at all? Hoffman fills us in on some of the backstory surrounding the making of the movie, as well as who was originally meant to play the goyische cowboy instead of Ford. Jonathan and JP cover three films in three years — 1988, 1990, 1991 — all of them asking Ford to be quieter, more internal, and more uncomfortable than anyone expected from the man who played Han Solo and Indiana Jones.First, Frantic. Roman Polanski's Paris-set thriller — his comeback after the catastrophic failure of Pirates — with Ford as an American surgeon whose wife vanishes from their hotel room and whose attempts to get anyone in authority to care are met with total indifference. Ford suggested they rename it Moderately Disturbed. Polanski was not amused. Ennio Morricone scored it. Robert Towne rewrote parts of it uncredited. The studio cut 15 minutes and imposed a new ending that neither Ford nor Polanski wanted. It's now a cult classic, and the Hitchcock comparisons have stuck.Then Presumed Innocent — by far the biggest commercial hit of the three, $221 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, and the one where Ford plays a prosecutor on trial for the murder of his own mistress. Gordon Willis shot it. John Williams scored it with unusual restraint. Raúl Juliá walks away with it. And the 2024 Apple TV+ series with Jake Gyllenhaal remade it entirely — which version holds up?Then Regarding Henry. J.J. Abrams' first ever produced screenplay, written in his early twenties. Mike Nichols directing. Ford as a ruthless Manhattan lawyer who takes two bullets during a convenience store robbery and wakes up a different person. Bill Nunn doing some of the warmest supporting work in Ford's entire filmography. Critics gave it 47%. Audiences gave it 79%. One of those gaps that tells you something.All three films are about a professional man whose competence and authority get stripped away by forces he can't control. None of them let him punch his way out. After all three underperformed, Ford went back to Patriot Games and The Fugitive.The question for the episode: did these films close a door — or did Ford close it himself?

On television, satirical Channel 4 series Brass Eye returns for a special on paedophiles, which is still viewed as highly controversial. Famous older people are given their own sketch show on BBC Choice called Revolver, whilst relatively new channel E4 is showing The Fugitive, another TV adaptation of the story that less than ten years prior was made into a film starring Harrison Ford. Lastly, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant change the comedy landscape with their mockumentary comedy The Office. Gervais stars as the fame-hungry boss from hell, David Brent, but the heart of the show is the brilliantly paced love story between Dawn and Tim, which remains one of the best depictions of a friendship turned romantic relationship on television.

Como acabamos de escuchar, Eva Soriano soñaba con ser cantante. Se presentó a programas como Operación Triunfo o Factor X, pero no consiguió entrar. Sin embargo, si lo pensamos bien, esos fracasos cambiaron por completo su vida. Porque gracias a ellos terminó dedicándose a la comedia y se convirtió en una de las humoristas más conocidas de España. Y eso me ha llevado a pensar en un tema que me parece muy interesante: los fracasos que, con el tiempo, terminan convirtiéndose en éxitos. Muchas veces vivimos una decepción como si fuera el final de una historia, cuando en realidad solo es el final de un capítulo. El problema es que normalmente solo entendemos el sentido de algunas cosas cuando miramos hacia atrás. Por eso, durante los próximos minutos vamos a hablar de varios personajes famosos que fracasaron antes de triunfar y, al mismo tiempo, vamos a aprender algunas expresiones españolas relacionadas con los errores, las dificultades y el éxito. La primera expresión que quiero enseñarte es "no hay mal que por bien no venga". Es un refrán muy popular en español. Significa que una situación negativa puede acabar produciendo consecuencias positivas. Imagina que pierdes un trabajo. En ese momento estás triste y preocupado. Pero unos meses después encuentras otro empleo mejor pagado, con mejores horarios y más oportunidades. Entonces alguien podría decirte: "Bueno, no hay mal que por bien no venga". Y eso es exactamente lo que parece haber sucedido en el caso de Eva Soriano. No la eligieron como cantante, pero terminó encontrando una profesión en la que realmente destacó. Otra expresión muy utilizada es "cerrarse una puerta y abrirse una ventana". Se emplea cuando una oportunidad desaparece, pero aparece otra nueva de manera inesperada. Por ejemplo, una persona puede suspender el examen para entrar en una universidad concreta. En ese momento siente que ha perdido una gran oportunidad. Sin embargo, acaba estudiando en otro lugar donde conoce a personas que cambian su vida para siempre. Se cerró una puerta, pero se abrió una ventana. Y aquí viene algo interesante. Muchas personas exitosas tienen historias parecidas. Pensemos en J. K. Rowling, la creadora de Harry Potter. Antes de publicar sus libros recibió numerosas negativas de editoriales. Varias empresas rechazaron su manuscrito porque pensaban que no tendría éxito. Imagínate qué habría pasado si hubiera decidido abandonar después de esos rechazos. Esto nos lleva a otra expresión muy útil: "tirar la toalla". Seguramente conoces su origen. Proviene del boxeo. Cuando un entrenador considera que su boxeador no puede continuar, tira una toalla al ring para indicar que abandona el combate. Hoy utilizamos esta expresión para hablar de cualquier situación. Por ejemplo: "Después de suspender tres veces el examen, estuvo a punto de tirar la toalla." O: "Aprender español es difícil, pero no voy a tirar la toalla." En la historia de Eva Soriano vemos justamente lo contrario. Probó varios caminos, recibió rechazos, pero siguió adelante. Y aquí encontramos otra enseñanza importante. A veces confundimos el fracaso con la falta de talento. Son cosas muy diferentes. Fracasar una vez no significa que no seas capaz. Fracasar diez veces tampoco. Simplemente significa que todavía no has encontrado la forma adecuada, el momento adecuado o incluso el camino adecuado. Piensa, por ejemplo, en el actor Harrison Ford. Antes de convertirse en una estrella internacional trabajó como carpintero. Durante años tuvo dificultades para consolidar su carrera como actor. Hay otra expresión relacionada con este tema que escucharás con frecuencia. "Equivocarse forma parte del proceso." No es un refrán tradicional, pero refleja una idea muy presente en el desarrollo personal. Cuando un niño aprende a caminar, se cae cientos de veces. Nadie interpreta esas caídas como un fracaso definitivo. Forman parte del aprendizaje. Sin embargo, cuando somos adultos tendemos a exigirnos resultados perfectos desde el primer intento. Con los idiomas ocurre constantemente. Muchos estudiantes sienten vergüenza cuando cometen errores hablando español. Pero la realidad es que equivocarse es una señal de progreso. Significa que estás intentándolo. De hecho, existe una expresión muy bonita en español: "a base de". Por ejemplo: "He mejorado mi pronunciación a base de escuchar podcasts." "He aprendido mucho vocabulario a base de leer noticias." La expresión significa que conseguimos algo gracias a la repetición, el esfuerzo y la constancia. Y si observamos cualquier historia de éxito, veremos exactamente eso. No talento mágico. No suerte infinita. Constancia. Volvamos un momento a Eva Soriano. Cuando ella habla de sus intentos en el mundo de la música, lo hace con humor. Se ríe de sí misma. No parece guardar resentimiento por aquellas experiencias. Y creo que esa actitud también es importante. Porque nos lleva a otra expresión muy española: "tomarse algo con filosofía". Cuando una persona se toma algo con filosofía, acepta las dificultades con calma y perspectiva. Por ejemplo: "Perdí el tren, pero me lo tomé con filosofía." "Suspendí el examen, pero me lo tomé con filosofía y empecé a estudiar de nuevo." Eva podría haberse quedado pensando durante años en lo injusto que fue no triunfar como cantante. En cambio, decidió aprovechar las oportunidades que aparecieron después. Y ahora quiero plantearte una pregunta. ¿Qué pasaría si algunas de las cosas que ahora consideras fracasos fueran, en realidad, cambios de dirección? Porque esa es la gran paradoja. Muchas veces no conseguimos exactamente lo que queremos. Pero conseguimos algo mejor. Aunque tardemos años en darnos cuenta. Por eso me gusta tanto la historia de Eva Soriano. Porque nos recuerda que el éxito no siempre consiste en alcanzar el objetivo original. A veces consiste en descubrir otro objetivo que ni siquiera sabíamos que existía. Y quizá esa sea la lección principal de este episodio. No hay mal que por bien no venga. No tires la toalla demasiado pronto. Y si una puerta se cierra, presta atención. Farmer Says Neighbor Claimed Part of His Cornfield Through "Squatter's Rights" A New York farmer is fighting to reclaim part of his cornfield after a neighbor claimed ownership through a legal process known as adverse possession, often called "squatter's rights." A little back history,the parcel in the case is a 300-acre farm that was leased by the brothers in the 1970s up until 2009, when the landlord offered to sell the ground. They purchased the property, continuing to farm the ground. Directly adjacent to the 300-acre farm sat a private residence—an older, but well-maintained house on a 2.5-acre lot. The house was fronted by a highway and surrounded on three sides by Hoskins' newly-acquired farmland. Stan Hoskins, 79, says what started as a small garden crossing onto his property gradually expanded over the years. According to Hoskins, the neighbor added a fence, a greenhouse, and several maple trees, eventually taking over about 60 feet of the field. The man the Hoskins purchased the farm had property line disputes with the owners of this house, according to Hoskins. When they went from being a tenant to being an owner, the property line dispute became ours. The Hoskins thought basic reason and decency would solve things, but were dead wrong. Instead they walked into a wall of entitlement. When Hoskins asked the neighbor to remove the structures in 2024, the neighbor argued the land now belonged  to him under adverse possession laws. Those laws can allow someone to gain ownership of property if they openly use it for a certain period of time and meet specific legal requirements, which vary by state. The dispute has led to an expensive court battle. Hoskins says he has spent about $75,000 in legal fees trying to recover the land. He even offered a compromise that would allow the garden to remain temporarily while preventing future ownership claims, but the offer was rejected. The case is scheduled to go before a judge in late July 2026. Hoskins hopes his experience serves as a warning to other landowners. His advice: don't ignore small property line disputes, because they can grow into costly legal battles over time. If you remember, the teen had become separated from his troop, spending the night in a cave. The next morning the boy scout used his belt buckle to reflect sunlight into the sky, catching the attention of Harrison Ford, an avid helicopter pilot, landed - picking up the teen and safely flew him back to his troop. The year before in 2020, Harrison Ford had assisted another rescue. This time a climber who suffered from altitude sickness climbing the Table Mountain in Idaho Falls, Idaho. During that rescue Ford helped the hiker into his helicopter, then flew to an area hospital. Can you imagine Indiana Jones or Hans Solo actually saving you?! Summer Tip Trip: Don't Count on Cell Service Ever find yourself visiting high trafficked areas only to be in zero cell service? For example, a recent tourist in Yellowstone when driving up to one of the popular locations. The husband, thanks to walkie talkies, would pull up and drop off the family, always taking along a walkie talkie. Once parked they were able to meet up easily via directions on the walkie.  Another use for walkie talkies?
