Leadership Decanted

The word 'transformation' is thrown around in all sorts of contexts and in all manner of attempts to sell change. The outcomes are never given, despite best laid plans, and it often falls down not because of process nor technology. The stumbling block is usually us. And it's not about the oversimplified trope of being resistant to change. On many occasions we actually want to see the change succeed - especially if it will make our lives easier. But good intentions are rarely enough. What is often ignored in both small and large change initiatives is that success rests on the skilful way we can navigate the change process itself. Sitting in the discomfort of uncertainty; working through potentially polarising differences with our colleagues; voicing our concerns and our ideas, despite perceived risks, so that we can all generate the best possible solutions. All of these are skilful practices no one ever really teaches us, but without which we simply spin our wheels.KG and Paul spent time in the Podcave with Jamie Gerlach, CEO of 4C Transformative Learning and 4C Organisations. Jamie and his team spend their days working with both educators and organisations, exploring the deep processes and skills required to deeply engage with change, and to bring about real transformation. As they kick back with an amazing chilled white wine from Sicily, they take their time to really think about what it takes to build this sort of transformational muscle - occasionally distracted by the outstanding quality of the drop - a 2023 Cantine Petrosino Lucido Catarratto. No, seriously, you've got to get yourself some of this wine. It is amazing. Thanks to our friends at Annandale Cellars!  Sláinte friends! We're keen to hear what you thought of this conversation. Please let us know through either of the options below. Please reach out on askus@leadershipdecanted.com or visit us at www.leadershipdecanted.comDisagree or agree with anything we've said? How wrong are we?!? Are there any leadership topics you'd like us to discuss (or perhaps other books or podcasts that might set us straight!)? Maybe you'd like to recommend a favourite wine!Whatever tickles your fancy, we'd love to hear from you!!

Batman the Animated Series Podcast

Our hosts return to the Podcave and then venture out into the woodlands to review the freakishly average episode, SIDESHOW. Alex and Will discuss the excellent animation in this episode and how the first act is a much better premise of a story, instead of reclusive freaks living out in the woods. And can you say freaks? Is this allowed? They also talk about how Richard being a Shakespeare nerd is the freakiest trait of all and discover they have limited Shakespeare knowledge. Plus, Killer Croc pitches the freaks on a new woodland wing shop venture and Batman brings a tree root back to display in the Batcave. Screams of the Dead - Liss Rd Axe Murder, St. Andrews MBOn this week’s episode we actually discuss a True Crime Murder as the result of a direct message from a listener. When someone dies unexpectedly it is always a tragic situation, but when someone is senselessly murdered, it is the living that are left to try and comprehend the evil involved to commit such a heinous act. Jas and Sher, your audio curators uncovered a disturbing chain of events that happened on a cold November night in 1973 where two Winnipeg brothers were left for dead. However, to this day you can still hear the echo of their screams pierce through the fields as a remembrance to a horrific axe murder that took place decades earlier. But that doesn’t explain why weird occurrence happen at the other end of Liss Rd in St. Andrews…..there is more happening by the Red River portion as well….Listen in to tonight's episode hear the whole story.

Have no fear, the boys are back! After many painful weeks, Tim, Joe, Ali and even Benny have returned to the PodCave, and they have a lot to discuss. The guys play Monday Morning Quarterback on all the new shows that debuted over the last two weeks, including Boardwalk Empire, Outlaw, Chase, Hawaii Five-O, Outsourced, Lone Star, Bleep My Dad Says and No Ordinary Family, plus many more. And they debut a couple of new voices!

Hell yes we did a TVTM podcast. Our producer, The Greatest (aka Ali Thanawalla) finally herded Question Boy (aka Joe Garofoli) into the Podcave and off his backside. Inspired, Benny (aka Benny Evangelista) also showed up. And so did I, just to add some actual talent to the non-pro line-up. We had lots of e-mails (some of them angry) and a decent amount of calls (including one from Thailand). There were voices. (Bill Walton, you ask? Of course. But Ali learned a little something about the pronunciation of Peter Krause and that really derailed things. We apologize in advance to Germany.)

Is Girlina a show-killer? Ah, we kid. I told Girlina, who came all the way from New Orleans to be at our Bastard Machine/TVTM Birthday Bash hootenanny, that she was the Paula Marshall of Question Girls. Let's hope not. But as you may have noted on a previous post, this and Thursday's second half podcast may be our last TVTM for a while (possibly forever), since Benny Evangelista is being recalled to the Business department to help cover the cratering economy. If we are going out, we're going out with an actual effort! We read e-mails and field calls. Yes, calls! In both podcasts! Thanks to those people who stepped up after my morose, brooding, angry TVTM and decided to dial. Cheers! And as someone pointed out -- that someone being me -- we can't end the TVTM because we never got to adequately outsource our questions to Amber in Canada! We must right this wrong. And we will! In the meantime, you can always write to Amber. Her answer column comes out on Mondays, when we normally tape the TVTM. It's almost like we were there. Plus, she's a whole lot hotter than me or Question Boy or Manny. Plus, she'll probably get the answers right.

We at the TVTM podcast -- including me and, yes, our Question Boy Joe Garofoli -- admit that we didn't listen to TVTM 59. Maybe Benny did because he had to really do a LOT of editing on it, but if we assume that Benny was actually paying attention it only makes an ass out of us and Benny. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was at the Chronicle that day and about to be interviewed right next to the Podcave and her bodyguards were looking very suspiciously at our lame podcast and wondering what we were doing. Here's what we were doing: Wondering if Nancy Pelosi would be Question Girl. Hey, it could happen. We'll work on it.
