You might say Sean started his music debute off at the age of 4 standing on a concrete slab patio playing air guitar on a plastic baseball bat and the rustling autumn leaves was his audience. His first gig was at a Daytona Beach biker bar when he was just 13 and he has never looked back. He played in a lobby of the Ramada Inn in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to help lift up peoples sprits. In the Atlanta Southern Voice Best of Readers Poll for "Male Musician" Sean ranked 2nd in 2005, 1st in 2007 and 3rd in 2008. He released his full concert live album in January 2008. After a full-circle Sean has returned to a home studio built into the very garage where he began some 30 years ago.

“I feel pretty fearless because of all the crazy stuff I’ve done. But it’s also just trust and life is life and you kinda just go with the flow. And that is what makes life interesting ya know? If it’s predictable then I think you lose the now.” Paul Wertico is a performer, teacher, bandleader, and clinician. He is a seven time Grammy award winner, Readers Poll winner for Modern Drummer magazine and DRUM! Magazine, 2004 Chicago Tribune “2004 Chicagoan of the Year” among many other lifetime accolades. He is most famously known as Pat Metheny’s drummer for 18 years but should not be pigeon-holed into only that role. He is also a bandleader for his Paul Wertico Trio and improvisational trio Wertico, Cain, and Grey. He is highly experimental with his approach and the instruments he tends to use during his performances including bizarre cymbals, kitchen sinks, and other strange percussion instruments. Claiming that “music plays me”, Paul is a devout musician who lives for the moment of what music can bring. In this episode, we will hear about many of his deep philosophies on performing on the drums, how the human element of imperfection brings out the real beauty in art, how we can become more confident and rooted in what we as artists connect with, and much more! Paul endorses DW Drums, ProMark, Remo and Shure. You Will Hear About…. Paul’s adventures in Russia, Spain, Italy and China this summer. Paul’s high energy levels at the age of 66 even after recently needing surgery for two heart stints. He left for Spain three days later. The time Paul flew a Robin aircraft as a reward for getting a fan an extra Pat Metheny ticket. The grey areas in music and art that brings life and character to any given work. Letting the music play you. What a “front beat” is. How we as drummers can tap into what connects us to our playing confidently. Learning how to judge what your playing ACTUALLY sounds like while you play. Why Should You Listen? People should pay close attention to his philosophies about the relationship between life and the flow of it in particular. If there are musicians out there that have a lot of knowledge and understanding of vocabulary but feel like they aren’t allowing their creativity to flow out of them, you will find this episode particularly helpful. He also shares his perspectives on phrasing ideas with his coined term “front beat” and how that can bring forward a stronger sense of time and pulse within the music. Beyond that, Paul is simply a nice person to listen to. He is incredibly thoughtful, filled with great stories to enhance his perspectives, and is incredibly experienced with this art form. He has been featured on many podcasts in the past, so if this episode interests you, I would recommend checking out any other podcasts that he has been a guest on. The Stardom Affair (Five Star Publishing) Newspaper columnist Neil Gulliver and his ex-wife, "Sex Queen of the Soaps" Stevie Marriner, are back. It's decades ago, when the internet was in its infancy. Neil is summoned to the apartment of actor Roddy Donaldson, leader of the "Diapered Dozen" gang of teenage movie stars, by condo manager Sharon Glenn. Roddy is in bed clinging to life alongside two dead girls, no memory of who they are or how they got there. Evidence points to him as their killer. At the urging of Roddy's mother, a prominent casting director, Neil chases after the truth, encountering a motley cast of suspects: among them nasty Nicky Edmunds, co-starring with pal Roddy in Tough Times Two, and glamorous Jayne Madrigal, a high-powered press agent with whom Neil is smitten when Stevie introduces them at a lavish Stardom Magazine gala. Also: rap superstar Maxie Trotter and his manager, Roscoe Del Ruth; Gene Coburn and Knox Lundigan, millionaire partners in Stardom House companies revolutionizing the internet; model-songstress Aleta Haworth, who knows more than she's telling; fading film star Brian Armstrong, who harbors dark truths; and Stevie's mother, Juliet, and her fiancé, Bernie Flame, a computer whiz who may be able to find answers for Neil in the secret underground world of the Web. More bodies fall and Neil faces an ugly death before the killer of the two girls is revealed in this fast-paced mystery-thriller by an author who knows Hollywood's many sins and secrets from the inside out. Praise for The Stardom Affair “The author has delivered a fast-paced, surprisingly dark, not-surprisingly witty thriller that includes a scene of movieland sex and violence more nightmarish than anything devised by Nathanael West or David Lynch”—Dick Lochte, award-winning author of Sleeping Dog, a New York Times Book of the Year “When one of Hollywood's hottest young stars finds himself in a tangle with two dead bodies and almost dead of a drug overdose himself, Neil Gulliver's reporter's instincts are aroused, and he's plunged into an ever darker world of sex, drugs, and murder. The patter is snappy, the writing is sharp, and the observations are pointed as a dagger in another winner from Levinson.”—Bill Crider, award-winning author of the Sheriff Dan Rhodes mysteries “From big box office powerbrokers to L.A.'s seething underworld of designer drugs and porn movies, you're in for the roller-coaster ride of your reading life. But then, it's no surprise –Robert S. Levinson is a master of style and suspense. Buy this book and enjoy!” -- Gayle Lynds, New York Times best-selling author of The Assassins “Robert S. Levinson handles the hardboiled style of storytelling with soft, sure hands. Neil Gulliver continues to be one of the most reliable main characters in the genre. And, along with his ex-wife, Stevie Marriner, they continue to channel Nick & Nora Charles. Reading The Stardom Affair is time well spent.”—Robert J. Randisi, best-selling author of the Rat Pack mysteries, founder of the Private Eye Writers of America and the annual Shamus Awards, co-founder of Mystery Scene Magazine Robert S. Levinson, the best-selling author of fourteen crime thrillers, in The Stardom Affair brings back newspaper columnist Neil Gulliver and his ex-wife, “Sex Queen of the Soaps” Stevie Marriner, who co-starred in his first four novels. Bob’s background includes stints as a newspaper reporter, founder of what became the world’s largest PR firm specializing in rock-and-roll, and a television writer-producer of myriad music, awards, and comedy specials. A Shamus Award nominee and a Derringer Award winner, he served four years on the Mystery Writers of American national board of directors, two as president of the Los Angeles chapter, two years on the Writers Guild of America-West board, and four terms as president of the Hollywood Press Club. Bob’s short stories appear regularly in the Ellery Queen and Alfred Hitchcock mystery magazines and have carried for years in various mystery anthologies and “year’s best” collections. He was voted several times onto Queen’s annual Readers Poll of favorites. His non-fiction has appeared in Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times Magazine, Written By Magazine of the Writers Guild of America West, Westways, and Los Angeles Magazine. Bob wrote and produced two MWA annual “Edgar Awards” shows and two International Thriller Writers “Thriller Awards” shows. His plays Transcript and Murder Times Two had their world premieres at the annual International Mystery Writers Festival. Bob resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Sandra, and Rosie, their loveable, bossy Besenji Mix.
The Winning Youth Coaching Podcast: Youth Sports | Coaching | Parenting | Family Resources
What does it take to be a winning youth coach? Listen in as Steve Boyle shares stories and discusses his journey to becoming a successful youth sports coach. Steve is a former Division 1 basketball player (Manhattan College). In NYC and Seattle, WA, he coached soccer, basketball, track and field and x-country. In Seattle, he founded Boyle's Cougar Hoop Camp for Girls, the largest all-girls camp in the state of Washington at the time. He was a school counselor at Hall High School in West Hartford for 15 years where he has coached Varsity basketball, track and field, freshman and JV soccer. He is currently a counselor at King Philip Middle School, coaches youth basketball, assists with track and field at Hall High and is Partner at the Crossover Consulting Group. Steve and his wife Kerry started their first camp in 2008, and only 4 summers later, the camp was declared “Best Summer Camp” in Hartford Magazine's Readers Poll and their programs have received tremendous positive coverage from area media outlets. Now over 1000 kids have come to recognize that “Life's 2 Short 4 Just 1 Sport” and kids from throughout the U.S. and beyond are attending their programs. Website: 241Sports.com Facebook: /241SportsLLC Twitter: @241Sports Listen Now: Listen in ITunes: Itunes link Listen in Stitcher: Stitcher link Quote 'It's perfectly OK to let kids know that winning is an expected outcome of competition. The problem becomes when we focus too much on the value of the win as opposed to the value of the experience.' Coaching your own Kids HUGE IDEA #1 Talk about the elephant in the room - Don't work too hard to treat your own kid as a coach - it's good to be truthful and authentic in front of the team and treat your own kid from a parenting point of view sometimes. Don't be over the top - but kids enjoy and learn from watching you enjoy spending time with your child. My Cringe & ‘Ah-Ha' Moments Steve shares a great story about his team having to help rescue a man from the river - and how he fainted afterwards. Teaching Children & Keeping it Fun Teaching is 85% about relationships. Connect with the kid first - then you just need to stay one step ahead of them regarding the technical skill teaching. Consider the cross-over effect. Know what sports kids have played then use their knowledge from the other sport to teach. Make all drills competitive - they are not fun if they are not. Self-Confidence and teaching kids to achieve peak performance Visualization - Your mindset is a choice. 'Look at everything as an opportunity to enjoy the moment and have no regrets.' Culture - Creating a Winning Attitude Discipline - First impressions are really important. Don't have a policy that says 'you can only miss 2 practices' - that sets up the expectation that it is OK to miss 2 practices. Coach doesn't expect to have any discipline issues, so predominantly - he doesn't. It's not allowed. Coach Boyle doesn't use running as a punishment - that doesn't mean they don't run gassers- but if they do it's because they need to be in great shape. Rewards - Coach starts every practice in a circle - and he shares about his day, and they share about their day. This allows everyone to get a pulse for where everyone's mentality is that day. HUGE IDEA #2 Coach asks every kid to write him a letter after each season - evaluating their experience on the team, and his performance. He reads and keeps them all and uses the feedback to improve Connecting with Kids Influence the influencers. One of Steve's former players is now a Major in the army - and he wrote to Steve telling him that many of the leadership skills he uses with his men in the army are skills he learned from watching how Steve coached. Winning HUGE IDEA #3 Sports games are not fun without a winner and a loser. But if you hear 'it's too competitive, it's not fun' - but the 'too competitive' part co...
