In this episode of the Warships Pod guests David Murrin and Dr David Blagden, with help from host Iain Ballantyne, discuss a worldwide struggle in a multi-polar era that is rapidly turning kinetic - from Ukraine, to the Red Sea and Gaza. It may soon burn even hotter should China invade Taiwan and/or the USA attack Iran. A number of topics are discussed during this episode, including the following: *Does the European Union (EU) have a place in such a world, at the top table? Or is it going to be sweeping up the crumbs along with the UK, the latter finding itself a bridge to neither the USA or the EU? *Bearing in mind the UK is a maritime nation, is committing what remains of the British armed forces to policing a frozen war in Ukraine unwise? Do we risk a situation where things get bogged down in that theatre while the Russians run amok at sea, with the UK defenceless? *With concerted attacks by US Navy carrier jets and cruise missile attacks by other USN units against the Houthis in Yemen is it at odds with the Trump administration's supposed urgent priority of facing down China and its huge navy? Every missile expended against the Houthis is surely one less for use against the Chinese? *Narrowing the discussion down to the UK, with the Labour government announcing plans to cut welfare to pay for Defence boosts, how do the two Davids think the Royal Navy should mould itself? Finally - and this is a big one for the episode's final point of discussion - are we heading inexorably towards what the tabloids might call WW3? Or can it be avoided? David Murrin discusses his system of forecasting global geopolitics and market trends, which takes into account the stages of empire and imperial decline. There is a rhythm and drumbeat to war which has a bigger cycle of 112 years. We're looking at a struggle between maritime (lateral) democratic governance and landpower (hierarchical) autocratic governance. Democracy is weaker than its ever been. America entered the fifth stage of decline with 9/11. Western leadership is blind and driving the world to war, we're over the brink. WWIII started with the invasion of Ukraine, the Middle East is now on fire, and the last piece of the puzzle is when China chooses to go to war. Decline (e.g. USA) means the fracturing of systems and less to go around. We will continue to see de-dollarization, high inflation, and higher oil and gold prices. Bitcoin, blockchains, and crypto are temporary safe havens that will eventually collapse. We shouldn't worry about Davos Man. Using his theory's of human social structures he was able to successfully predict back in 2007 the key process in human social structures that have impacted today's changing world, including the decline of America and the West and the rise of China, and the reality of climate change. His second book released in 2018 is Lions Led By Lions which examines Britain's misunderstood involvement in the First World War and the achieved learning curve of its Army's leadership that resulted in a war-winning British Expeditionary Force rolling back the German Army in 1918. Have you ever felt that someone touched your soul? And, as a result of your meeting, left it just a little fuller? That's exactly how I felt after talking with Laura Pritchett. She is a writer, an award-winning author, a lover of all things nature and an advocate for it's survival. We talk about how the core themes in her work are stories of the precarity of life. Laura shares her own precarious story and how this prompted her writing, "Making Friends with Death: A Field Guide to your Impeding Last Breath". This conversation came just at the right time for me. Connecting with the natural world has become a big part of my healing: physically, emotionally and spiritually. Laura Pritchett is a mere mortal who will someday die—and she's doing a little better with that fact now! She's also the author of nine books. She began her writing journey with the short story collection Hell's Bottom, Colorado, which won the PEN USA Award for Fiction and the Milkweed National Fiction Prize. This was followed by the novels Sky Bridge, Stars Go Blue, Red Lightning, and The Blue Hour. Her novels have received starred reviews from Booklist, Publisher's Weekly, and School Library Journal, and The Blue Hour was listed as one of the “Top 5 books that will make you think about what it is to be human” by PBS and made the Booklist Editor's Choice for 2017. She also has two nonfiction books: Great Colorado Bear Stories and Making Friends with Death: A Field Guide to Your Impending Last Breath. She's also involved with environmental issues, and is the editor of three anthologies about conservation: Pulse of the River, Home Land, and Going Green: True Tales from Gleaners, Scavengers, and Dumpster Divers. Her essays and short stories have appeared in The Sun, The New York Times, Salon, High Country News, The Millions, Pinch, The Normal School, Publisher's Weekly, Brain, Child, and many others. She directs the MFA in Nature Writing at Western Colorado University

Welcome to DC on RMD. This week the hosts discuss The Flash 05.21 ‘The Girl with the Red Lightning’.
Will "The Girl With The Red Lightning" stop Cicada from destroying all the meta-humans with her new Atomizer? Joe and Cecile go to CCPD to convince Captain Singh to allow any meta that wants a cure to come to the police station. They'll stay and organize that chaos while the rest of the team tries to find Grace before she uses her new weapon. Cisco tests the mirror gun they acquired on the old satellite filled with dark matter and seemingly destroys it. So now they have a plan once they find the angry woman. Nora is eager to help, but Mom and Dad say no. Feeling responsible and capable, she makes a mental connection using Wells's cerebral inhibitor. But when Barry sees red lighting all around her, he pulls her out, she reawakens before discovering Grace's location. Nora stands her ground and tells her parents she's an adult and wants to help stop Cicada. Now with the team at full strength they go in for the final battle. But that's when Ralph realizes something very important about Eobard Thawne. Jay and Josh make crucial discoveries at the last minute on this week's episode of Scarlet Velocity: A Flash Podcast!
On this week's episode of The Flash Podcast, Andy, Andrew, Tatiana, and Swara get together to discuss the twenty-first episode of The Flash Season 5 titled “The Girl With the Red Lightning”! Oh what's that? This whole thing has been a plan by Thawne? No way. Who would have thunk it? We did. We thunk it. And Ralph. They really really should have listened to Ralph this episode. There's one episode left in this season and not only do we have no idea how it's going to turn out but we're totally invested in it (something that hasn't happened the last few seasons). Team Flash decide to gather the metahumans in Central City at the CCPD and distribute the cure to protect them against Cicada. Sherloque goes to get Renee, but she refuses the cure and is sent to safety on his Earth. Nora reveals she is still connected to Grace's mind from using the Memory Machine and feels her anger through the Negative Speed Force. She wants to look through Grace's eyes to locate her, but her parents decide it is too dangerous. Ralph is trying to figure out Thawne's plan, but the others are more interested in stopping Cicada. After Cicada collects the final pieces for her weapon, Barry and Iris agree to let Nora connect to her and expose herself to the Negative Speed Force, and she locates Cicada just as she attacks CCPD. Cicada then uses the metas' dark matter as a battery for the cryo-atomizer. While the others engage Cicada, Cisco disables the cryo-atomizer. Finally, Ralph figures out Thawne's plan just as Barry shoots Cicada's dagger with the mirror gun. In 2049, Thawne's time is up and he is about to be executed. As he is strapped down, it is revealed that his powers are being dampened by Cicada's dagger.

Renowned author Laura Pritchett joins us here on Pain Reframed! Laura is the author of multiple books, including “Stars Go Blue,” “Red Lightning,” “Sky Bridge,” and just recently, “The Blue Hour.” She’s also working on her upcoming book, “The Death Book.” Laura is the first of many guests who will be talking, not from the clinician's perspective, but from the perspective of those who have experienced very serious pain conditions. Laura shares her journey with physical pain and how she’s learned how to manage that pain through specific and effective thought processes. She, not only discusses the tough times when dealing with the pain, but also what was going through her head and how she was able to combat those thoughts to reduce, or even eliminate, the pain that wasn’t serious or possibly even there at all. Laura also recommends a great program that helped her: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. So, I'm deliberately late this month! Burning Man, the annual transformational 'Universe' just past by last week.. and it was a dream come true for me to not just immerse myself into the experience but also to play what was meant to be a 2 hour set - that turned into a 6 hour journey... Debuting my soon to be released remix on Windhorse Records with shamanic healers, yogis, dancers and lovers that kept me company on the night of the 28th on the playa, at Black Rock City, Nevada. It was MAGIC & i wanted to share that magic with you... So pardon me for skipping the past 21! Im sure you wont regret it! In Dust We Trust... Here's 1 hour of the extremely special six hours... as technology failed on me and my recorder lost its power midway.. sniff sniff... yet bringing you some playa energy so you can, "Dive Deep into the Energy and Dance Flawless." Let the Power of Spellbound Sounds Moonwalk Through Your Mind... For your Deep, Desirable and Dreamy Moments...
