In this episode, we had a fascinating conversation with Sara Starkström, a Swedish urban explorer. She shared her journey into urbex, starting with a childhood fascination with an old farmhouse. Sara's love for underground spaces and tunnels led her to explore catacombs and underground locations. Bis zum Kauf durch das Land Berlin 2014 blieb das Areal sich selbst überlassen, Flora und Fauna siedelten sich in den ehemaligen Fahrgeschäften, künstlichen Teichen und Restarchitekturen an. Heute soll der Spreepark zu einem neuen öffentlichen Raum werden und die Co-Nutzung durch Menschen, Tiere und Pflanzen ermöglichen, was zu einem aufwändigen Aushandlungsprozess zwischen den Akteur*innen aus Umweltschutz, Stadtplanung und Kunst führt. Während der Stadterkundung gibt Katja Aßmann einen Einblick in die Planung, Der Biologe Tim Peschel, dessen ökologische Untersuchung, stellt die Lebewesen vor, die sich dieses Habitat erobert haben. Marcus Maeder präsentiert erste Ergebnisse über den aktuellen Zustand des Ökosystems mithilfe von Soundaufnahmen künstlerisch-wissenschaftlich dokumentiert hat. Berlin's abandoned theme park, Spreepark at Plänterwald, is to be auctioned off, with a starting price of €1.62 million. Spreepark is the place to go in Berlin for urban explorers. Once a popular GDR amusement park, then a privatized post-GDR fledgling amusement park and now an abandoned and creepy amusement park covered in overgrown foliage and trees, it's the perfect place to explore. Located in Plänterwald just beside Treptower Park, toppled dinosaurs, a 45-metre high ferris wheel that blows eerily in the wind, and ghostly abandoned fun park villages greet those who dare to hop over the fence. As it turns out that the story behind the park, its collapse into bankruptcy, and the destruction of the family who owned it, is much sadder than the remnants of this once beloved place.
