When yield is the focus, personalization is key. But, just how personalized could an event be? John and his team at Waukesha County Technical College had an idea to create an event where — no matter where you were in the post-app funnel — you would leave the event as an enrolled student. Yes, that included transferring credit, accepting, advising, scheduling courses, and committing — all as part of one single event. They called it, Admission Accomplished, and that they did: 75% of the attendees left the event completely enrolled.Special shoutout to Kaylan Gaines and Dee Dee Wallace at WCTC who made Admission Accomplished a tactic we all want to try!Check out Admission Accomplished: https://www.wctc.edu/events/admission-accomplished/index.phpGuest Name: John McGrealGuests Social: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnfmcgreal/Guests Bio: John McGreal has been an enrollment professional for his entire career and has worked for multiple styles of institutions. Lack of biblical discipleship is a problem in our churches today. Many Christians are content to come to church once a week, grab their donut, sing a few hymns, and check religion off of their to-do list. What did Jesus mean when He said, “make disciples”? How can we pursue discipleship and be effective disciple-makers today in our day-to-day lives? Join us in an interview with Dr. Andy Burggraff, author of “Discipleship Today”—a book he recently published which reviews the state of discipleship today, how the church may better reflect Jesus' discipleship methods, and encourages believers to use six principles to challenge their heart and spiritual walk.Dr. Andy Burggraff is Vice President of Enrollment Services and Strategic Initiatives at Shepherds Theological Seminary in Cary, NC. The State of South Dakota, like many other states in the middle of the countries is dealing with the issue of shrinking rural communities and less qualified employees for agricultural companies in those areas. While I am not happy this is the situation for these communities, it does create fantastic opportunities for students who want to work in agriculture and live rurally. Mitchell Technical College is based in Mitchell, South Dakota and is part of the solution to this problem for the State of South Dakota. Among the opportunities for agriculture students in South Dakota is learning the skills that lead into an agricultural career through Mitchell Tech. for free and having a guaranteed career position when your two year program is completed. This is done through a program called Build Dakota, and there are other programs available as well. Imagine landing your first career position while you are still in high school, having your college 100% paid for and having a job waiting for you when you finished. Clayton Deuter, the Vice President of Enrollment Services at Mitchell Technical College, joins me on the show today. We will discuss how this works, what the benefits to students are and how to get this done. This is a very exciting opportunity for agricultural students from all across the U.S. to help them find their future. More Places You Can Listen to Off-Farm Income And Matt Brechwald:

The questions and stresses around college applications, essays, and admissions get a lot of attention every fall. Students on the spectrum may feel especially anxious or challenged about how to approach the process, and whether or not to reveal or even write about their diagnosis. Other questions students have might include: Are there accommodations that kick in as early as the application process? And what about the pros and cons of an in-person visit? To demystify the process and offer insights especially for students on the spectrum, this episode features conversation with admissions officials from two very different colleges. Emily Engleschall is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services and longtime admissions advisor at UC Riverside and Cathy Finks is the Executive Director of Admissions at the College of Wooster, a smaller private liberal arts college in Wooster, Ohio.

One of the most important parts of a college experience is the opportunity to learn new things in the classroom and outside the classroom. As students earn credits for courses and other engagements, it is critical for them to have official records that reflect what they know and can do. One role on campus that helps with that is the college registrar and in this episode, Dr. P. talks with Dr. Tom Green, an expert on how colleges maintain students' academic records. Tom is Associate Executive Director, Consulting and Strategic Enrollment Management at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). During Tom Green's more than 30-year career as an enrollment manager, he has led enrollment management efforts for six universities and collaborated with both public and private institutions to reach their goals. Tom brings proven best-practice expertise in developing effective recruitment strategies, enhancing and streamlining financial aid processes, maximizing institutional aid, identifying customer service/CRM strategies, and implementing and evaluating comprehensive service systems for colleges and universities.Tom's first-hand education experience includes his tenure as Vice President for Enrollment Management at Eastern Michigan University, and as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. There, Tom oversaw multiple functions including admission, bursar, financial aid and registrar offices. Under his direction, new student enrollment grew by 12% while SAT scores rose by over 65 points. While heading academic advising, adult re-entry centers, admission, registrar and financial aid operations at Newman University, Tom lead the university to a 54% increase in freshman students and net revenue increases of 95%.A former chair for AACRAO's financial aid, enrollment management and retention committees, Tom is a sought-after speaker at enrollment meetings and conferences worldwide. Everything we do has an impact. He says, "It's important for us to sit in that discomfort." Show Notes:This week on the podcast we talk with Madeleine Rhyneer from Richmond, Virginia where she is the Vice President for Consulting and Dean of Enrollment Services at EAB. She recently had an article published entitled "No, Your College is Not An Exception" in the Chronicle of Higher Education and we just had to discuss that with her.Featured Quotes:One of the things that I've been challenging people with . . . in the last few months is to ask . . . , "What's your elevator pitch?" Which is the business way of saying, "What's the 20-second introduction to your university to a person who really doesn’t know you at all?" And most people sort of look at me like, "Oh my goodness." Or they'll go to, "Well, we're really friendly" or "We're small." And I'm like, "OK, friendly is pretty much table stakes in any kind of market where you're serving people and small is not a point of distinction at all.Madeleine Rhyneer, EABI feel like it's important to have honest conversations and sometimes they end up being pretty direct conversations to say, "Actually, to the public, we all do more or less the same thing, and we do it more or less close to them, more or less well or not-well, more or less online or in a virtual format." And that the traditional, 'If we build it because we're here, they will come,' that just isn't working anymore.Madeleine Rhyneer, EABLinks Associated with this Episode:TranscriptFollow Us:Solutions for Higher Education PodcastSUU BlogSUU Facebook

You are considering a law school education, and you know it’s a good investment for your future. When considering law school, one of the options you will weigh is whether to pursue the degree on a part-time or full-time basis. With rising tuition and an uncertain job market, prospective law students may have an incentive to keep working at their current jobs, if they are already employed or, to find a way to finance law school with a job that allows them to attend school at night. But do part-time law students give up something that is vital to their legal education? We interviewed experts from the admissions offices and career offices at law schools with part-time JD programs to help you understand the pros and cons of each program, to learn how admissions committees evaluate part-time applicants and to learn about career prospects for part-time law students. We also hear from a part-time law student who is working while attending school about how it all fits together. Listen to what they have to say.Guests include: Andy Cornblatt, Dean of Admissions, Georgetown University Law Center Stephen Brown, Dean of Enrollment Services, Fordham Law School Melissa Lennon, Assistant Dean for Career Planning, Temple University, Beasley School of Law Jannell Roberts, Assistant Dean of Admissions, Loyola Law School, Los Angeles Meghan Morris, Part-Time Law Student, Georgetown University Law Center
As the number and types of systems registrars offices interact with or manage has increased, the need for structured user acceptance testing (UAT) has also increased. Understanding the need and creating an extensible, repeatable, collaborative process will go a long way to making your life simpler when the need for testing rolls around (and it will). Guests: Tara Sabbagh, Associate Registrar at American UniversityPaula Palhus, Assistant Registrar at American UniversityJoe Papari, Director of Enrollment Services for Student Systems and Technology at Southern Methodist University Key Takeaways: User Acceptance Testing (UAT) is critically important to ensure the continued functioning of all of the systems we use in our day-to-day work from ERPs to niche applications; UAT is increasingly part of the role of the registrar, not outside the scope of our work; establishing best practices for UAT is important for ongoing success; a strong relationship with your IT shop makes a big difference! References and Additional Reading:There are many, many search results for “user acceptance best practices” (over 40,000,000 in 0.36 seconds according to Google) and I encourage you to explore or refine that search. Here are some high-level results that provide good, basic overviews for the process but are not specific to higher education nor the registrar’s office specifically:Usersnap: Fundamentals on setting up your user acceptance testing workflowWhat Is User Acceptance Testing (UAT): A Complete Guide What is User Acceptance Testing (UAT)? with Examples
