Around here, it's mostly known as the Balboa Beach area, but it's much more. Located on Ponce De Leon Drive, a lot is going on around the beach. There's a playground, volleyball court, grilling facilities, cornhole "courts," picnic tables, covered areas, a pavilion, the Balboa Marina, a gas station, a spillway, and a trail. Nearby is the Sunset Grill, which has the best dining views of Lake Balboa. This week on America's Podcast, we're thrilled to have the illustrious Travis Perrotta join us for a deep dive into the testosterone-fueled, hair-sprayed extravaganza that is “Cocked And Loaded” by L.A. Guns! Is this album oozing with swagger and spice, or does it go flatter than a soda left at the bottom of your car's backseat? No spoilers here, but let's just say we're navigating a musical minefield of high expectations and maybe a little chaos! As for our Tracks of the Week, we've got a lineup that would put any jukebox to shame! Mooger's cranking “Green-Tinted Sixties Mind” by Mr. Big, proving that sometimes you need a little nostalgia with your rock. Jerry's taking us to the “Sunset Grill” by Don Henley—where the only thing grilling is your ex's decision-making skills! Travis, meanwhile, is contemplating a “Cold Shower” by Kix, which we hope doesn't involve actual plumbing issues. And just when you thought it couldn't get any spicier, Marc wraps us up with “Heading For A Heartbreak” by Winger—because nothing says ‘let's have a great week!' like a ballad about emotional turmoil! So for now, folks, stay loaded and remember: life is too short to be cocked—or flat! Until next time, rock on!

Ben and Judah start the day off right with some yerba mate and then they take a date to Sunset Grill! That's the episode. I'm not gonna fill you in on what they talk about, like it's my job or something. Just listen to the episode. It's a good one! Thanks for listening! Sorry!
Moab is like nothing you've seen on Earth! It's the reason why people from around the world visit every year. In fact, over 50 movies have been filmed in Moab or Arches National Park! Jon and Jenn talk about the two National Parks within Moab: Canyonlands and Arches. If you're planning on going, remember that reservations are now required for Arches. When you get in, head directly to the Delicate Arch. Of the 2000 arches withing the park, Delicate is the big one! There are a lot of great restaurants to choose from as well. For pizza you can have Antica farma, sushi there's Sabaku, Thai is Thai Bella and the Sunset Grill for a nice occasion. The Moab area has some of the darkest night skies in the US! So stay up late and see the Milky Way with your naked eye.
Tears for Fears comes from Bath, England, and were formed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Their first album, "The Hurting" was released in 1983 and was successful with songs like "Mad World" and "Pale Shelter." However, their second album entitled Songs from the Big Chair, a title taken from the motion picture "Sybil" would be the one to propel them to super-stardom. It peaked at number 2 in the UK and number 1 in the US. In addition to Orzabal and Smith, Ian Stanley is on keyboards, and Manny Elias is on drums and drum arrangement.Orzabal and Smith were inspired by electronic and synth-pop bands like Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, and Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark. They started off as a duo initially called History of Headaches. The name Tears for Fears comes from primal therapy, a psychological treatment developed by Arthur Janov.Shortly after their follow-up third album ”The Seeds of Love,” Orzabal and Smith had a big falling out, breaking up the band in 1991. They would get back together in 2000, and are still touring and releasing albums today. Everybody Wants to Rule the WorldThis is the signature song from the album. Bassist Curt Smith takes the lead vocals, and the lyrics are about the desire for power and about corruption. It was a last minute addition to the album and was recorded in two weeks as the final track to be laid down. ShoutThe lead-off track and second single to the album features Orzabal on lead vocals. While many think this is about primal scream theory, Orzabal has said it is actually more about political protest.BrokenThis is a short piece with lyrics that have an angst-ridden declaration that we are all broken. It is also commonly played in concert just in front of the next piece which also reprises Broken at the end. Head Over HeelsThis is your classic “boy obsesses over girl” song. It was released as the fourth single from the album, but it had been bouncing around for about 2 years along with Broken. Orzabal takes vocal lead on this one. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Neutron Dance by The Pointer Sisters (from the motion picture "Beverly Hills Cop”)Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop propelled both his career and this song originally appearing on a 1983 album to the top. STAFF PICKS:If I Had A Rocket Launcher by Bruce CockburnWayne launches the staff picks with a protest song from Canada's own Bruce Cockburn. The song lyrics tell the story from the perspective of the villagers experiencing warfare but being powerless to do anything about it.Valotte by Julian LennonRob brings us the title track from Julian Lennon's debut studio album. The resemblance between Julian and his father are obvious. Many think the river referenced is the Tennessee River near Muscle Shoals where portions of the album were recorded.I Can't Hold Back by SurvivorBrian demonstrates that Survivor wasn't a one-hit wonder after all. It starts with a nice acoustic guitar and builds quickly. This single reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the first album with Jimi Jamison on lead vocals.Sunset Grill by Don HenleyBruce finishes off the staff picks with the ex Eagles' single that hit number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Sunset Grill is a hamburger restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Austrian restaurant owner didn't know that his frequent visitor was Don Henley until after the song came out, making their hole-in-the-wall burger joint famous. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Listen by the Tears for FearsWe do a little double-dipping with this (almost) instrumental from "Songs From the Big Chair."

With so many great outdoor adventures in one town, Moab is sure to be on traveler's hit lists. Here are nine great gluten-free and Celiac-friendly restaurant choices you'll want to check out while vacationing in Moab. Denny's Diner has a gluten-free protocol to serve food that is under 20ppm! Can you believe it? I love eating breakfast at Denny's 24 hours. I've eaten at different restaurants all over the United States and have never been sick eating at one! Love Muffin Cafe for freshly squeezed juices and gluten-free baked items along with amazing egg dishes! Make sure to check out their dairy-free options as well. Sweet Cravings has gluten-free sandwich offerings along with knowledgeable staff to help you navigate the menu and choose Celiac-safe foods. Fiesta Mexicana has the gold find with a dedicated fryer! Their chips are safe so grab a plate for lunch and dinner. The staff is very knowledgeable and can direct you towards gluten-free finds. Go to Moab Brewery for the best-brewed sodas as they create their own brews on-site. Whether you are in the mood for alcohol (don't drink the beer) or a soda, they've got you covered for post-hiking relaxation with a good menu. Bangkok House for lunch and dinner, and dump gluten-free soy sauce on all your food! Good Asian food choices on their menu. Moab Coffee Roasters for their coffee and tea - but don't eat the food! They have amazing flavors such as English Toffee, which I absolutely can't get enough of when I go to Moab. Moab Garage Company is actually inside a remodeled old garage and has a cool atmosphere. MGC also carries a great selection of teas and coffees to start your day outright. Sunset Grill is an upscale restaurant with gorgeous views of Moab and gluten-free menu choices. Desert Bistro is a fusion restaurant whose staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the ingredients in their food, and they specialize in allergy protocol. The perfect date-night restaurant, Desert Bistro, has the most amazing gluten-free desserts that you can share with that special someone! Moab Food Truck Park has a variety of ethnic and American foods. Each food truck has its own protocol so check with the server or owner of the food truck to verify which options are safe. 98 Center Moab is an Asian-Vietnamese-American fusion restaurant that understands what it means to have Celiac disease! I was way impressed with their staff knowledge and their mostly gluten-free menu, and the remainder of their menu can be made gluten-free—lots of vegetarian and meat choices, a great place to go for lunch or dinner. Where to Stay Purple Sage Flats and Moab Flats are two boutique hotels in Moab that have been completely redesigned in the past five years to a chic, modern comfy place to stay that features amenities such as kitchens in every room, laundry facility, hot tub and complimentary mountain bike use! Tim goofed up again and accidentally cut some parts out of the 20th Episode Celebration. The boys respond to a few more listener questions.
Don Henley has been a major part of the Eagles, but the singer songwriter drummer has certainly also had a reputable solo career worth noticing. But how did Don get to be such an epic drummer and musician? In 1963, his mother reportedly purchased a drum set for him after he pulled a childhood stunt in which he blew up the family washing machine with a cherry bomb. Yes, that’s right, she rewarded him for blowing up a washing machine. 1982 must have been a popular year for the Eagles band members producing solo albums, as Henley’s solo debut just so happened to debut at the same time as Eagles bandmate Glenn Frey. Danny Kortchmar, who co-wrote songs like “Dirty Laundry” with Henley, said Don would drive around in his car and listen to the music, formulating lyrics for the song in his head. He’d come back to the studio with lots of ideas. His solo hits include "Dirty Laundry", "The Boys of Summer", "All She Wants to Do Is Dance", "The Heart of the Matter", "The Last Worthless Evening", "Sunset Grill", "Not Enough Love in the World", and "The End of the Innocence". While Don’s debut album was a smash success, the length of time before he could produce another set of records was quite long into the 90s. Record company Geffen had a dispute with Henley that prevented him from making any new solo releases for nearly 11 years. In addition to his squabbles with his record company, Mr. Henley has also been no stranger to run-ins with the law. He was arrested in 1980 in LA and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor when paramedics were called to his home to save a naked 16 year old girl overdosing on cocaine and Quaaludes. He went to drug counseling, paid a fine, and ended up on two years probation. Don is still actively creating solo material, while also continuing to tour in 2020 with the remaining members of the Eagles.

On this episode of View & Spew Review we dive into the booze-soaked Los Angeles noir SUNSET GRILL (1993) starring a mustachioed and cowboy hat-sporting Peter Weller as a washed-up private detective hunting the people who killed his wife. This film features John Rhys-Davies as a badly-accented Irish corrupt INS agent, Lori Singer as a sultry femme fatale, Stacy Keach as a villainous industrialist, a young Danny Trejo in an alleyway fight and a mysterious plot involving organ harvesting. Peter Weller also breaks a lot of bottles and chases a car while screaming expletives. Every episode of the ‘Cinema Fantastico: View & Spew Review’ Adam Rutkowski, Joshua T. Ruth and Shawn McLoughlin get together to watch an obscure film none of them have seen then discuss it immediately after. Join us as we share our raw reactions and see clips from hard-to-find trash and treasures. More content from the Cult Following Network of talent: www.cultfollowing.co

An extra special episode this week as we are joined back in the booth by one of our earliest and dearest collaborators, Jon Wallace, from the famed Woods and Weller series. This week, in the absence of any semi-decent Woods films left and also because he's now an insufferably mad bastard, we instead do a double bill of bebopping Peter Weller wonders. Both are detective films of the TV Movie/Straight to video variety from the 90s - Rainbow Drive (by show favourite, jobbing director, Bobby Roth!) and Sunset Grill (featuring Weller's amazing moustache!)Jon Wallace and Jon Cross get into all that and more on this awesome episode, enjoy!CONTACT US and give us feedback at aftermoviediner@gmail.com, Call us on 347 669 0053 or leave us a voicemail from your computer at www.speakpipe.com/aftermoviediner

So with a touch of conspiracy, welcome to Murrells Inlet Sports..
In this episode, we cover our week long trip sailing the middle Florida Keys from Marathon to the Content Keys. We have some more sailing / cruising news and our featured product will help you deal with smells from the head. Intro Chat We had such great plans to get some more shows out this summer, but work and other responsibilities continue to eat up our time. Steve has been dealing with lots of rental property challenges, good for future cruising kitty, but these hands on investments take a lot of time. Hopefully, we will be good for a while after September 1st and we can go somewhere on the boat for the labor day holiday weekend. We have been able to get out on two trips since our last podcast. We spent a weekend in West Palm Beach that we will cover in a future show and we joined all our friends at a local lake event called Adult Summer Games, check out the video here of the 2016 event. Steve has been working on lots of boat projects, we got behind from buying and setting up the house. Most of the work in standard maintenance like changing the gear and motor oil in our Honda 50 outboard. We did have a mildew problem on the boat that is likely due to the new location at the house. It is up against our shed and the circulation is not as good as it was in storage. We also discovered a leak in the deck fitting for the mast light attachment and replaced the fitting, so hopefully we fixed it. Since our MacGregor 26M has a deck stepped mast , we plug the mast light into a deck fitting and the old one that came with the boat was missing the cap. We cleaned the inside of the boat with vinegar and placed a fan that runs continually. Cruising the Middle Florida Keys We left on Saturday 10/29 and trailered the boat from Orlando down to Homestead, FL. The drive drown to Marathon is about 350 miles from Orlando, so we decided to stay at a Southern Comfort RV Resort in Homestead to break up the trip. We had never taken the boat to a campground and it was a fun stop. They have a Tiki Bar in the campground and we went to their Halloween party that night. On Sunday, stopped at the Lorelei Cabana Bar to meet up with some listeners, Stefan and Andrea. That afternoon we launched from a private boat ramp off on Avenue I off Coco Plum in the Key Colony area. It was storming, so we anchored nearby in Coco Plum bay. Monday the weather cleared up but it was still blowing 15-20kn. We headed eight miles down to Boot Key Harbor. We entered through Sisters Creek. We grabbed a mooring ball from the Marathon City Marina for $22 a night. Tuesday morning we rowed a few boats over and met with with Carolyn Shearlock from the Boat Galley cookbook and website. Her and her husband Dave live on a Gemini 105 catamaran and it was great to chat with them about the cruising life. Tuesday afternoon we had a great sail 12 miles to Bahia Honda State Park. We planned to anchor between the bridges just south of the park but it was rolly so we went into their harbor and tied up to the seawall for the night. $2/ft includes water and electric. We also used their outdoor showers to rinse off. The only other boat in the harbor was another trailer sailor, a West Rite Potter 19 owned by Don and Carmen who end up living just twenty minutes from us near Orlando. We met up for a couple drinks sitting their cockpit that night. Wednesday morning we dropped the mast to get under the US1 bridge and motored 4 miles to Little Pine key. We anchored just offshore and had a great day relaxing the sun and snorkeling around the boat. Thursday we sailed over to the Content Keys, it is a shallow area everywhere except the channel, but the water is beautiful. It was too shallow to anchor at the Content Keys so we moved over Crane Key for the night. Friday we started to head back to Marathon. We sailed the 12 miles down through the Niles channel between Summerland Key and Ramrod Key. We also stopped at a great snorkeling spot off Newfound Harbor Key. They have several mooring balls on the reef. We decided to grab a slip in Marathon so we could sit see around town. We found a spot at Burdines Marina for $3.50/ft They have nice facilities and a great restaurant on site. We spent Saturday and Sunday touring Marathon's site, Tiki Bars and live music. We had a great tour at the Turtle Hospital. Great meals, drinks and music at Castaways, Porkys Bayside, Sunset Grill (drinks in the pool!), Faro Blanco Resort (Fancy!), and the Brass Monkey (not so fancy, but great live late night music by Freddie Dye and his band. Monday we motored back to the ramp into the wind through really rough seas and made the 350 mile drive home. Total trip cost about $1000 for 10 days, eight nights on water, one camping on land. Truck and boat gas was $260, Docking, Campground and truck/trailer storage was $600. $25 in Ice and $120 for trailer and tire storage. Sailing & Cruising News Cruiser discovers she is pregnant while sailing across the Pacific - She has to deal with finding medical care in remote places and does just fine. UK island brewery ships beer to mainland by sailboat - Ales of Scilly on St Mary's island started shipping their beer to the mainland by 18th century privateer sail boat. Check out the sailboat it is beautiful! 70 year old sets record for oldest to sail around the world via the five great capes. Congratulations Jeff Heartjoy! Showing us all that we are never to old to follow your dreams. Pen Hadow is leading a team that is attempting the be the first to sail all the way to the North Pole. The ice pack may melt enough for them to get close this year. Featured Product Bathroom / Head odors on the boat can be overwhelming in such a small space. We found this great odor eliminator that makes the smell much more bearable. Brandy says it reminds her of a nursing home, but the fresh scent really does quickly eliminate the odors. We liked it so much that we also bought a bottle for home. It only takes one spray to cover the odor so the bottle will last a long time. With only monthly use on our boat, it will probably last for years! Medi-aire Fresh Air Scent Biological Odor Eliminator 8 oz. Don Henley anchored the Eagles as the band's drummer, frequent frontman, and co-leader. He wrote and sang many of their biggest songs -- "Hotel California," "Desperado," "The Long Run," "Best of My Love," "Life in the Fast Lane," "One of These Nights" were among his signatures, classic rock staples all -- but he also found considerable success on his own in the '80s following the group's disbandment. He established a distinctive, flinty voice right out the gate with "Dirty Laundry," the Top 10 hit from his 1982 solo debut I Can't Stand Still, but 1984's Building the Perfect Beast was a blockbuster, aided by the chilly, stylish MTV hit "Boys of Summer." Three other singles were pulled from the record -- the Top 10 "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," followed by the Top 40 "Not Enough Love in the World" and "Sunset Grill," all arriving in 1985 -- and he then labored on his third record, 1989's The End of the Innocence. Although this didn't have as many Top 40 hits -- the title track reached eight, followed by "The Last Worthless Evening" and "The Heart of the Matter," both peaking at 21 -- it was a bigger hit, going platinum six times, but after it ran its cycle, Henley decided to turn his attention to reuniting the Eagles in 1994, a project that kept him busy off and on for the next two years. His solo albums slowed -- he released Inside Job in 2000, 11 years after The End of the Innocence, and then took 15 years to record Cass County, his return to country-rock roots -- but he was never out of the spotlight thanks to ongoing work from the Eagles. He is out this Summer touring Solo and two weekends in July, with the Eagles adding Glen's son, Deacon to the band line up! #Eagles #DonHenley #EaglesFans #SlackerMorningShow101theFox #CassCounty
A few weeks ago I shared late night nachos at Sunset Grill in Hillsboro Village with two of my dearest friends, Ben and Elizabeth. We had just watched the movie Boyhood across the street at the Belcourt. Boyhood is the kind of movie that would show at the Belcourt –a non-profit movie theatre specializing in documentaries, artstic, and innovative films. The director, Richard Linklater, filmed the same cast over twelve years and, like the title suggests, it’s about childhood and growing up. Literally the boy actor grows into a man before your eyes. So, we were discussing the movie over nachos and Ben says, “I can’t help but think about what the movie would have been like if it were about girlhood.”I laughingly said, "You would say that!" (Ben might be more of a feminist than I am because of his deep appreciation for Marylynne Robinson’s poetry, fiction, and prose…) and replied, “What would the movie womanhood look like?” I rambled on, “What if I filmed my best friends over the next ten years and see what happens?”“I think I’d watch that,” Ben responded, “What would you call it?”And without really thinking I replied, “Modern Day Flappers.”We kept eating nachos and discussing various parts of the movie that we liked — but the idea didn’t leave my mind and the next day I typed in the domain name: moderndayflappers.com. It was available. Then I Googled “Modern Day Flappers” and found two interesting articles: Five Signs Your a Modern Day Flapper in the Huff Post and Modern-Day Flappers: Lena Dunham and Girls from Biographile. Both reference the same book published in January of this year Flappers: Six Women of a Dangerous Generation by Judith Mackrell. I immediately searched for the book at Nashville public library and sent it to the branch near my house.I love the parallel between Lena Dunham and Girls and flappers. I have seen every episode of Girls and I am intoxicated by the woman’s locker room conversation put on national television from a realistic perspective in an authentic and unapologetic tone. Yet, there is more than one conversation going on in a women’s locker room! Many of my friends have talked about how we resonate with Dunham’s characters, yet they do not allow for their spiritual domains to influence their life choices and their context of NYC is very different than Nashville!A few days later, I picked up the book from our branch and read in the introduction, “The young women of this era weren’t the first generation in history to seek a life beyond marriage and motherhood; they were, however, the first significant group to claim it as a right (pg. 5).” “Yes. This.” The voice in my gut said when I read those words…A few pages later Mackrell’s words resonated again with this statement about the six women whom she presents to represent flappers, “Often they feel closest to us when they were struggling and uncertain. None of them had role models to follow as they grappled with the implications of their independence. Their mothers and grandmothers could not advise them how to combine sexual freedom with love, or how to combine their public image with personal happiness (pg. 10).”I feel a lot of uncertainty when I try to articulate how to be a woman, in the south, in public and private settings, seeking my right to an identity outside of wife or mother, navigating singleness, love, sex, and independence, while also discovering and being found by God, and desperately trying to “be human in the most inhumane of ages (Thomas Merton).” All of this coupled with the fact that I am clergy and “should” know these things!I, for sure, do not have all the answers — but I do have a ton of questions. Therefore, over the next year of my life — “30, flirty, and thriving” — I am going to ask as many questions as possible and ask them of those who are on the journey with me — my modern day flappers — my late 20something and 30something friends who are also seeking their identities, wholeness, and love. I hope to discover parts of myself in the stories I unearth in them.I will record my interviews in a podcast called — you guessed it — Modern Day Flappers!
