We dive into Trump’s latest antics, from federal hiring freezes to TikTok’s temporary rescue mission that left influencers in a frenzy. Plus, why diversity, equity, and inclusion policies are taking a back seat, and what it means for the future of the workplace. So grab your headphones, pour yourself a budget-friendly Prosecco, and let’s make sense of the madness. Happy New Year! We're back and ready to dive into the issues shaping our world. Recorded on the day of Trump's inauguration, this episode unpacks its global implications for women's rights and explores TikTok's recent ban - analysing its role in spreading misinformation and pushing far-right agendas. In our deep dives, Steeley and Liv tackle Elon Musk's growing influence in UK politics and how this links with the decades-long scandal surrounding grooming gangs in the UK. We also examine the rise of “Faux Feminists” and challenge the myth of the “perfect victim,” referencing the Blake Lively lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and the sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman. Lastly, we turn to the world of OnlyFans, discussing creators like Lily Philips and Bonnie Blue. Are their sex challenges a form of empowerment or just a repackaging of patriarchal norms? We ask whether profiting from male desire is a form of autonomy, or does it perpetuate dependency on male validation? Our episodes follow a simple structure, helping you stay Informed, Inspired, and Empowered as we break down complex issues and empower you to think critically about the world with us. Feminism for us is a process of learning and unlearning. If you feel passionately about an issue and would like to come on the podcast to talk about it, please do reach out to us! Former President Donald Trump is in his second week on TikTok, and already soaring past President Joe Biden in both followers and views. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's having more influence. Or that other Republicans will rush to join TikTok, a platform many have called a national security threat. Welcome to this week's Episode of Equity Monday. We're kicking off the week with a deep dive from this weekend into the demise of electric vehicle startup Fisker at the hands of its founders' whims. Fisker, which was founded by famed vehicle designer Henrik Fisker, is on the brink of bankruptcy after only having delivered a few thousand electric Ocean SUVs. Then, Rebecca Bellan talked about X's new rules to allow adult content (as long as it's "consensually produced," whatever that means), and why that's problematic for the safety of other users -- namely women, who are most often the targets of sexually explicit trolling and harassment. We also touched on Trump's TikTok debut, which came in the wake of the former president's felony conviction. To wrap up, Bellan also discussed a story that TechCrunch published over the weekend looking into the new trend of smaller, lesser-known investors getting shares of hot private AI companies like Anthropic, X.ai and Perplexity by using special purpose vehicles, or SPVs. The result has been a Wild West, high risk, buyer-beware situation, with SPV terms varying wildly. Haje closed out the show with another Pitch Deck Teardown, this time looking into the Angel pitch deck for RAW Dating App. RAW just raised a $3 million friends and family round to shake up the dating scene by shedding fake, TikTok-ified, heavily filtered photos and replacing them with a more genuine, unvarnished experience.
