Introduction: In this episode, Sarah Walton, a dynamic business coach and sales expert, unpacks the powerful connection between money mindset and personal growth. Raised in a low-income household, Sarah knows the unspoken rules and financial beliefs that shape our lives. She brings her signature no-nonsense coaching strategies to reveal how women in business can break free from scarcity, embrace abundance, and cultivate confidence in sales and life. This conversation dives into how mindset shifts around time, money, and self-worth can transform your business and personal development journey.     Main Takeaways: Unspoken Rules Shape Financial Beliefs: Identifying inherited beliefs can help dismantle the scarcity mentality. Money is Infinite; Time is Finite: Recognizing this truth can revolutionize decision-making and time management. Confidence Drives Perceived Value: Abundance flows when you confidently own your worth and offerings.     Main Topics with Timestamps: Unspoken Rules and Scarcity Mentality (05:15) Sarah explains how unspoken childhood rules—like "money is stressful" or "more is better"—can unconsciously control decisions. She emphasizes that these beliefs aren't truths but inherited mindsets. Quote: "Unspoken rules run deep, but identifying them allows us to rewrite our stories." Impact: Realizing how these unexamined beliefs operate can unlock a sense of freedom and control over your financial choices. Money vs. Time: Infinite and Finite (23:42) The misconception that time is abundant and money is limited is flipped. Sarah highlights that money flows endlessly in the economy, but time is a resource you can't replenish. Quote: "Billions of dollars circulate daily—it's about participating in the flow, not fighting it." Impact: This mindset shift encourages smarter investments in your time and energy, empowering you to focus on high-value activities. Perceived Value and Sales Confidence (41:08) Owning the value of your work is key to thriving in sales. Sarah reframes selling as a transfer of enthusiasm rather than a pushy transaction. Quote: "When you trust your value, you can confidently ask for the raise or increase your prices without guilt." Impact: Seeing sales as an opportunity to share value transforms fear into empowerment, fostering authenticity in every transaction.     Notable Quotes: "We come into this world naturally abundant; scarcity is something we learn, but abundance is always available." "Confidence in your value isn't about arrogance; it's about showing up with integrity and love." "The unexamined psyche will rule your life—question your beliefs to unlock your true potential." Each of us has a unique sense of adventure. What does yours feel like? In this episode of The Gentle Rebel Podcast, I speak with Sarah Lister, who runs About The Adventure, a career and life coaching business that helps people connect with what brings them to life as they navigate change. I love Sarah's approach to this topic and how she holds each person's needs within their unique spirit of adventure. The deer that delightfully derailed Sarah's sunset photographing quest one evening A Sense of Adventure Use this episode as an opportunity to reflect on the distinct elements that make up your personal sense of adventure. We explored the potential characteristics of adventure. For Sarah, it involves nature, spontaneity, a sense of challenge, and being somewhere out of the ordinary. But it also carries the openness to pause and breathe, to have the courage to stop walking and respond to the invitation of a particular moment. Whether it's stopping for a cup of tea with strangers or delaying a trek to photograph an unexpected deer on the hillside. There are a lot of juicy metaphors for life in this conversation and stuff worth reflecting on if you want to live a meaningful life. Recognising Our Sense of Adventure We might think of the "sense of adventure" as we think about a "sense of humour". While it's not a direct physical sense like touch, taste, sight, smell, and hearing, it's something personal that keeps us in touch with what it means to feel alive and be ourselves. Adventure is not simply about the thrill of the unknown but also about our relationship with perceived possibilities, obstacles, and the creative potential we see in the path ahead. It's a key ingredient in living with a compelling sense of meaning. In our conversation, Sarah and I talk about: How to find adventure in the landscapes and environments around us Sarah's relationship with adventure and times in her life when her adventurous spirit shrunk The threads between imagination, daydreaming, and adventure When Sarah thought she was having fun but really was lost, and how she found her sense of self again Why adventure doesn't need an end goal, destination, or quest attached to it The role of safety in a successful adventure (and how we can increase confidence amid uncertainty by carrying the right resources with us) How to keep the adventure going even when the particular journey ends And more... Over to You What would you include in your list of adventure elements? Let me know by leaving a comment, sending a message, or contacting me via social media. Dr. Shannon Donnelly has just completed her 23rd year in education. She has been a Special Education Teacher, a Director of Pupil Services, a High School Principal, and just completed her first year as the Superintendent of the Somerset School District. Dr. Donnelly has a passion for the work of transforming schools to ensure that students are experiencing a learning environment that more closely mirrors the ever-changing world students will enter upon graduation. She is often heard stating, "If schools still look like they did when I graduated in 1995, we have a problem". In addition, Dr. Donnelly has worked with over 25 school districts that have wanted to embark on a journey of creating a flexible master schedule that abandons the structures that were created over 150 years ago for schools (and sadly still exist in most schools today). In her free time, she enjoys watching her boys participate in sports and spending time at their family cabin. In this episode, we discuss: Shannon's journey into becoming a school superintendent Her experiences with successfully completing her doctoral degree while also leading a school and now a district through a global pandemic, and She shares her passion for leading locally and more broadly mindsets to shift how we create conditions in our schools for experiences we want students to have rather than how they were done 150 years ago. Cami Meyers started writing because she was a jealous little sister who wanted to try writing because her older brother was being forced into it. In natural little sister fashion, she stormed off but then started scribbling a story where her brother was the villain. She is a teenage author, excited and simultaneously terrified to be publishing her very first book. Cami lives in Northern Wisconsin with her parents, brother, and two dogs, who she loves more than anything in the world. When not reading or writing—which, admittedly, is what she does most of the time—she likes to watch and critique movies, spend time with her friends, correct the grammar of grown adults, and sing (even though she's not very good). She enjoys musicals and music, and can rarely be found without a song stuck in her head. Her dream is to keep writing and just make it through algebra. In this episode, we discuss: Her job shadowing experience and our connection, The book she wrote and published and the process for self-publishing And we dive into Cami's inspiration to write her passions, dreams, goals, and aspirations.  Cami's Book: Because of Nadia: A Novella Connect with Sarah Johnson: Sarah's Website Sarah on Twitter Sarah on IG Sarah on LinkedIn Sarah on Facebook In AWE Podcast Subscribe to Sarah's Podcast Need a high-energy, authentic presenter for your organization? In today's episode, I'm joined by body-based artists and activists Kai Hazelwood and Sarah Ashkin. Kai and Sarah are co-founders of Practice Progress, an anti-racist facilitation practice that addresses structural, professional, and interpersonal white supremacy through embodied learning. In our conversation, Kai and Sarah describe what body-based learning is, particularly through the lens of their LISTEN IN workshops, which are race-based spaces that address the physiological impacts of racism. In Kai's BIPOC Affinity Circle, the focus is on repairing the rest and care gap that so many people of color people face. She leads participants through embodied rest, practices that settle the nervous system, and frameworks for setting boundaries. Sarah facilitates the white working group and guides members to build awareness around what it means to actively be anti-racist. Kai and Sarah share examples of modalities that support the collective unlearning and healing in both workshops. In addition, Kai and Sarah are partnering with Arcos Dance to host their third annual UNtensive workshop.
