Jolene PhiloIn 2003 I left teaching after 25 years as a classroom teacher to pursue a career as a writer and speaker. It was a risk, but God made his will so clear, it would have been a bigger risk not to follow it. For four years, I split my time between writing newspaper and magazine articles and working as Director of Discipleship and Assimilation at our church. During those years I landed an agent. We met at a writing conferences. Those conferences were a way to meet people in the publishing industry. Much better than waiting for them to find our little gravel road.In September of 2009, Discovery House Publishers released my first book, A Different Dream for My Child: Meditations for Parents of Children with Critical or Chronic Illness. In November of 2011, the same publisher released Different Dream Parenting: A Practical Guide to Raising a Child with Special Needs. Since then, I've published three more books:The Caregiver's Notebook (Discovery House, 2014)Every Child Welcome: A Ministry Handbook for Including Kids with Special Needs (Kregel, 2015), co-authored with Katie WetherbeeDoes My Child Have PTSD? What to Do When Your Child Is Hurting from the Inside Out (Familius, 2015)My agent is also pitching my first mystery novel, See Jane Run! to select publishers, also. THE LITTLE BOOK OF BIG LIES: A Journey into Inner Fitness (Amistad; November 19, 2020), where she tackles the debilitating falsehoods from her past that held her back, encouraging others to do the same in their lives. Sure, Lifford starred opposite such Hollywood icons as Clint Eastwood, Jennifer Lopez, Sidney Poitier, and Bruce Willis—but her passion for acting is rivaled only by her passion for the art of effectively navigating life's hurts, dramas, traumas, upsets, disappointments, and fears. Lifford defines inner fitness as the development of inner skills—mental, emotional and spiritual practices—that strengthen the inner Self. She began her practice of “inward focus” at age seven. Years later, the drug-overdose death of her only brother birthed in her a mission to systematize self-care principles into a non-religious set of inner fitness guidelines for the everyday management of life; believing that inner fitness is as important as physical and delivers equal far reaching benefit to one's inner health and well-being. Lifford evolved into a sage, astute Inner Fitness Trainer and well-being coach with over 20 years of experience working with clients worldwide. Tina Lifford began her acting career in 1983. Since then, the veteran Hollywood actress's multi-faceted career has left an imprint on audiences worldwide. She currently plays Aunt Vi on Queen Sugar, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network's hit television show. She is also a recognized playwright and CEO of The Inner Fitness Project, a personal development network that teaches individuals to focus more on thriving than on surviving. She desires to inspire people from all walks of life to invest in their emotional wellbeing and act on their dreams so that they can feel less stressed and respond to life with more personal power, insight, and wisdom. The Little Book of Big Lies: A Journey Into Inner Fitnesshttps://www.amazon.com/Little-Book-Big-Lies-Journey/dp/0062930281/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=The Inner Fitness Projecthttps://www.theinnerfitnessproject.com/Music for PodcastGroove Grove by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3831-groove-groveLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Original Broadcast: 09/28/2020

My Own ThoughtsCan You Hear Me?On January 17, 2021, I shared one interesting tweet on Twitter which highlighted a movie producer. He releases videos and gives his perspective on the current events, namely the incident that occurred on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC January 6, 2021. If you were not paying attention to the message, the first observation is of how handsome he is. Of course, many women (and some men) shared this video. How I became involved is when I mentioned his name and that I follow him on Instagram because of his posts. Anyone that speaks truth to power gets an A in my book! His Twitter name was eventually located and shared. However, if I try to share something that I consider equally important to say in social media……crickets. The message gets lost and only a few people see it.Today is January 19, 2021 and I am STILL receiving mentions about this producer. I would be humbled if I mentioned anything about mental health and mental illness that could receive the same amount of attention. Looks like I must step up my A-game in reaching out to the masses. My name is Stephanie Davis and I am the Senior Executive Assistant to the CEO for Mental Illness Prevention Partnership LLC. The company started in 2011 under another name & organizational structure. We provide programs and services with a focus on mental health, servicing specific target need areas:1.Courts and criminal justice organizations in helping mentally and criminally impaired ex-offenders2.Military veterans and those displaced3.At-risk youth entering the juvenile justice system; victims of child sex trafficking4.Suicide prevention initiatives5.Persons involved in domestic violenceWe developed partnerships with the US Department of Justice; Federal Bureau of Prisons; Department of Veterans Affairs; local law enforcement agencies; mental health professionals; school administrators and counselors; mental health organizations and advocates. MIPP is currently registered in MD, FL, HI, GA, and OH. We are building our teams to help others in ALL 50 States; the District of Columbia; and all US territories, because we know mental health services are needed for the ones we are trying to help. We are ALL impacted by mental illness! On July 13, 2020, we launched a podcast entitled “Can You Hear Me: Let’s Talk About Mental Health.” We have conversations with subject matter experts about the target need areas we try to help and mental health awareness; in addition to sharing best practices. #TEAMMIPP continues to sound the alarm about the increase of situations impacting all of us or we may know someone who is experiencing them. We’ll begin our new season on January 25, 2021.This health pandemic has exacerbated the need for mental health services. We need more people to not just talk about it but support our mission and speak on our behalf to say “YES! This is so needed!” MIPP has its own theme song also entitled “Can You Hear Me?” I wrote it after I saw the tragedy on 2/14/2018 take place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. I had to write the words after viewing so many tragic moments seen before this one in this country. We are living through some extraordinary times. Mental health is crucial and the stigma surrounding mental illness must be done away with. MIPP is on Facebook; Twitter - @mippllc; Instagram - @mippllchelpandheal; YouTube Channel; LinkedIn; and Alignable. Our podcast is on the Spreaker platform, but you can find us on several others like Castbox; Apple Podcast; iHeartRadio and Spotify. Here is one link to find our social media handles; website; podcast and online Etsy store Linktr.ee. As we say #TimetoHelpandHeal. Thank you for listening. It would mean a lot that these thoughts are shared and in helping us getting the word out about what we do.Cool Vibes by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3553-cool-vibesLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0Can You Hear Me by Stephanie DavisTheme Song for MIPPRegistered at U.S. Library of Congress (2018)https://youtu.be/-uIfHmd3c1Q

Tim Dukes, Ph.D. consults with senior leaders and teams, established business owners, political and organizational visionaries, emerging innovators, entrepreneurs, and artists to bridge the worlds of dynamic opposition so that what seems to be a contradiction can actually inform a process of continued evolution into clarity. His model for clarity is based on presence and mindfulness distilled from years of coaching leaders, clinical work, academic research, and contemplative practices. With clarity, a leader can be an inspired, authentic communicator, transform challenges into professional mastery, and be accountable for his or her actions. His process fosters a relational environment based on insight, trust, and candor.“Simply put, I am called from within, to listen to and be in service of, the life force that is seeking to emerge – in my clients, in our many cultures, and in the Natural World.” – Timhttps://www.facebook.com/DrTimDukes https://twitter.com/tdukes https://www.linkedin.com/in/tdukes/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT1UyP4FEIaE75Z9bO1dQ4w
Author Philo shares the remarkable story of her son’s 26 years of suffering and the relief from “mental anguish” he found in one week after being diagnosed with PTSD. Philo’s son, Allen, first experienced breathing difficulties immediately following birth; by age four he had undergone five surgeries. At six months—though medical professionals repeatedly insisted “babies don’t feel pain”—he screamed when seeing anyone in a white coat. It wasn’t until the family found an outpatient clinic years later that Allen was correctly diagnosed and, through “self-therapy,” first began to cope. Philo’s dramatic story will capture the reader’s attention, and there’s tremendous value in her patient explanations, from a simple definition of trauma to an exploration of PTSD causes, myths, and common terminology. In a single sentence, Philo can make a dramatic statement (e.g., trauma “changes the very structure of the brain”) and then evenly explain the physiology behind it. Though occasionally heart-wrenching, the book is organized so simply and logically as to be easy to follow and digest. Each chapter ends with “reflection questions” and additional valuable resources. Philo concludes on a hopeful note, providing encouragement and reassurance for other families in similar situations. ~ Publishers Weekly Starred Reviewhttps://www.facebook.com/DifferentDream/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/jolenephilo/ https://twitter.com/jolenephilo Music for PodcastGroove Grove by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3831-groove-groveLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Alice Mills Mai, LMHC, NCCIn a previous episode we spoke to a domestic violence survivor who shared his story of coping with trauma and using the experience to help himself and other people. Yes, men are experiencing domestic violence issues and those numbers continue to increase.
