Welcome Florida-bred, Denver-based electronic producer duo MZG to Episode 078! Zach and Charles Weinert are wildly talented yet humble and hilarious, studio wizards who can cook up with the best in the game. Many of us have long been convinced these two handsome gents are destined for superstardom, if not global EDM domination. I've had the privilege of watching the evolution of their craft, careers, collaborations, and trademark sound since before they were even performing as a duo, as well as call them real-life homies for nearly 15 years. Get ready for the Twinzies Takeover! 0:00 - episode 078 prevoew 2:40 - For The Funk of It Music Festival sponsor 6:00 - Fete du Void Music/Arts Fest sponsor 9:00 - The Upful Update 15:00 - introducing Zach n' Charles - MZG 20:20 - interview w/ MZG [92 mins] 1:52:20 - afterglow, Vibe Junkie JAMZ Topics include: growing up twins, coming of age in Northeast Florida, separate musical journeys, Greenhouse Lounge/Sir Charles, exploring Ableton, discovering festival culture, finding Soundtribe Sector 9, figuring out Phish, collaborating with Big Gigantic, The Floozies, Griz. Spirit of Suwannee/Hulaween magic, moving to electronic mecca Denver, distilling/focusing their sound. Unveiling house side-project Duplex. A classic tale of the ol' switcheroo, plastic bong/pocket-p*ssy/kazoo with a country cop, plus barrels more laughs and memories. We run thru a few of the most nuclear MZG bangers to finish strong. Bio: Twin brothers, Zach and Charles Weinert, spent many years working on separate musical projects, but in 2015, they relented to the inevitable and joined forces to create MZG. Shorthand for “monozygotic” (the scientific term describing identical twins), the name MZG describes the unique bond these two share. After honing their craft in Jacksonville, FL, the pair began playing out for audiences. MZG's reputation for setting dance floors aflame saw them soon sharing the stage with like-minded acts such as RL Grime, Herobust, and Opiuo, as well as earning residency at Florida festival mainstay Suwannee Hulaween. They've also appeared at festivals Sonic Bloom, Okechobee, and Electric Forest, among others. Rooted in Colorado the past six years, the brothers have wasted no time in making a mark, performing with respected state staples Big Gigantic, Griz, The Floozies, Barclay Crenshaw, and Manic Focus. These self taught musicians and producers deliver bass driven, hip-hop influenced electronica while sharing a chemistry on stage that is natural and infectious.

Ethan is joined by author, teacher and writing coach Lisa Weinert. They discuss the power of storytelling as both a spiritual and psychological method for healing. They also talk about why the act of writing is so excruciating, as well as the relationship between storytelling and embodiment. They definitely do not discuss their 9th Grade English teacher, Mr. Hubner. Lisa is the author of the book Narrative Healing: Awaken the Power of Your Story (Hachette, 2023). She has taught and lectured on the power of storytelling at institutions such as Wesleyan University, Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, and Fortune 500 media companies. Beginning her career in book publishing, Weinert eventually became a certified yoga instructor with a specialty in trauma-informed and restorative yoga, leading her to combine her professional training with her own experience with trauma to create Narrative Healing, a writing program that seeks to release our stories in a way that is accessible and empowering. In honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we shed some light on life with a DS child with PICU mom, Stephanie Weinert. She shares how she received the diagnosis and how Beckett's entrance into the world changed her life. In this episode we briefly discuss death, dying and grief. In this episode, we chat about: The day she learned her son was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. What were some of the things you had to re-learn as a mom after Beckett's diagnosis? What were some of Beckett's challenges and how did those affect your family? What are some of the greatest things Beckett brought to your family? Often, we fear what we do not know. What's something you feared that either never came to fruition or was less stressful than you imagined it might be? What are some ways you honor Beckett's life and how are you managing your grief particularly during anniversaries or the holidays? What's something you want people to know about Down Syndrome? What would you tell old Stephanie, knowing what you know now, about having a child with DS? Stephanie Weinert is a wife, mother, writer and media personality. She served as a radio host before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Stephanie has spoken nationally and internationally on topics related to faith, family life, homeschooling, motherhood, and the suffering path to salvation. She and her husband Peter share openly about their youngest son, Beckett, who was born in 2019 with a surprise diagnosis of Down Syndrome and a serious heart defect. Beckett's short life of 18 months changed the Weinert family forever. Caring for a special needs child and walking through grief and child loss helped Stephanie see motherhood through a new lens.. Latte and Laundry: A home for Catholic women, moms, and hearts
This week we wrap our Lenten series on the Sorrowful Mysteries, with the Crucifixion of Christ. As I was praying on this mystery, I kept reflecting on the pure love and goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ, as he laid down his life for us on the Cross. I was delighted to sit down and chat with my friend Stephanie Weinert about this gift of self-love as well as the grace in grief that our Lord so desires to pour out upon us. Stephanie shines a light on the truth that we as mothers, whether spiritual or biological, will all experience suffering. Yet, it is through an openness to the goodness of God, amidst the crushing pain, that we may experience the "small trickle" of His joy beneath the grief and sorrow. This was such a treasure of a conversation for me and I hope it will delight all of your hearts as much as it did mine!Blessings friends and have a wonderful week!
