Have We Got What Makes Us Happy Wrong? - Interview with Ryan Bush

Mindset Change

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 15, 2024 42:42

Paul interviews Ryan Bush, author of the book "Become Who You Are." Ryan shares his unique perspective on happiness and self-esteem, challenging the traditional notions of what brings true fulfilment. Drawing from practical philosophy, psychology, and personal experiences, Ryan presents a new theory that emphasises the importance of virtues and self-admiration in achieving happiness. He discusses the limitations of our current understanding of happiness and explores the concept of depression as an adaptive mechanism. Contact and social links below: https://mindsetchangeuk.com/useful-links Masterclass Link - https://numindwellness.com/pages/anxiety-free-masterclass-6-week-course-p-20  KEY TAKEAWAYS Happiness is often misunderstood and pursued through outdated thinking. Ryan offers a new perspective on happiness in his book "Become Who You Are." The key to true happiness lies in developing and exercising virtues or strengths that we admire in ourselves and others. Depression may serve a purpose and can be seen as an adaptation rather than a disorder. It can be a signal that our virtues or character traits need attention and improvement. Behavioural activation, creating a schedule and committing to it, can be a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of depression and improving well-being. BEST MOMENTS "We're bad at predicting what's going to make us happy. We're bad at achieving it." "We really have a pretty bad sort of default map in our heads about how happiness is actually attained and what constitutes the good life." "If you win the lottery and you engage in a lot of passive pleasure, you end up feeling bored and depressed and you don't really know why." "Virtues are a little bit deeper and they sort of transcend simple skills that are maybe valuable for profit-based reasons." Lyn has a unique and different conversation with her ex-partner, Paul Lowe. They discuss the concept of 'consciously' uncoupling and how they have managed to remain close friends after their separation. They emphasise the importance of communication, finding middle ground, and injecting humour into difficult situations. They also introduce the idea of a "love box" where both parties give unconditionally without any expectations.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Communication is key in any relationship, especially during the process of being more conscious when uncoupling. Finding a middle ground or a shared entity can help maintain a positive connection after separation. Humour can be a powerful tool to diffuse tension and navigate difficult conversations. The concept of a "love box" suggests giving unconditionally without expecting anything in return. Adopting pets can provide companionship and love during lonely or challenging times. BEST MOMENTS "We're separating, we're parting, we've come to the end of the road. We're conscious of that."  "The relationship that we've got from my heart now is extremely sacred."  "Consciously uncoupling is separating those emotions out. It's one thing splitting assets, but to split out your emotions, that's a different kettle of fish."  "My love for you has actually increased because there's no expectation that we'll be sharing a bed or doing this together as a couple."ABOUT THE GUEST - Paul Lowe -  Founder & President of World Game-Changers Paul has made a remarkable transformation from existing for many years in dark, desperate despair; to now living a really healthy, happy and fulfilling life. 3 ESSENTIAL Reasons Why Rents Are Rising

The Property Nomads Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 8, 2024 8:52

Rob talks about the three essential reasons why rents are rising, challenging the mainstream media's portrayal of landlords and delving into the economic factors driving the increase in rents.  KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the main reasons for rising rents is the decrease in supply caused by landlords leaving the market. This imbalance between supply and demand leads to an increase in rental prices. Access to home ownership has become more expensive due to higher mortgage rates. As a result, more people are unable to buy a home and are forced to rent instead. This increased demand for rental properties further drives up rents. The lack of sufficient property construction contributes to the supply-demand imbalance in the rental market. Despite government efforts, the housing quota for new construction has not been met, resulting in limited availability of rental properties and higher rental prices. While not listed as a main reason, some argue that high levels of immigration can impact the rental market. The use of properties to house migrants or immigrants may reduce the supply of rental properties, leading to increased rents due to supply and demand dynamics. BEST MOMENTS "We're all right-wing capitalist pigs in the eyes of mainstream media." "If landlords are leaving the market, this is decreasing supply... therefore rents have to go up. It's just natural market forces."  "Higher mortgage rates have made access to home ownership more expensive... that means the cost of borrowing is more expensive... more people being able to potentially afford to buy a home and now not being able to afford to buy a home." "Not enough property is being built... supply is nowhere near the level of demand... that means that you're going to have high prices." Jeannette discusses the power of reframing and how it can transform our thoughts, actions, and ultimately, our results. By reframing our perspective on challenging situations, disappointments, and setbacks, we can change how we respond and find opportunities for growth and positive outcomes. Jeannette shares personal examples, such as not getting a promotion and dealing with a knee injury, to illustrate the effectiveness of reframing, and stresses the importance of recognising negative emotions, looking at situations from a different angle, taking proactive actions, and ultimately, taking control of our own lives KEY TAKEAWAYS Reframing is a powerful tool that can transform how we think, process, and respond to situations, ultimately affecting the results we get. When faced with a negative situation, it is important to notice and recognise what is happening, and then reframe it by asking ourselves what good could come from it. Taking action is crucial in turning a negative situation into a positive one. By taking small steps, we can create momentum and set ourselves on a different path. Surrounding ourselves with the right people can also be helpful in maintaining a positive mindset and overcoming challenges. BEST MOMENTS "We're able to influence that. We're able to make different choices. So, this is for you. If you find that you're maybe in a little bit of a difficult position right now, you might be going through some change in terms of your business or career." "Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both usually right. You've probably heard that before. It's so true. It is so true. Our perspective is absolutely critical." "So if you're feeling in a bit of a fog, you're feeling a bit pissed off, something's happened, you're feeling like the victim, take control back. Reframe and then take positive action."   This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS There's one industry that's stood the test of time throughout history, economies & markets: Insurance.  If you look at the markets after 2001 in the states the banks had a lot of money in variable accounts, they transitioned to life insurance & are now some of the largest life insurance providers.  We're in an era now where there are a lot of digital assets and currencies, people are wanting to get out of the banking system.  As a society, we've been programmed to lose our creativity, and to instead dedicate ourselves entirely to a particular system.  BEST MOMENTS ‘We're seeing a shift from banking & big banks failing. People don't want to see their money be gambled anymore or disappearing because of someone else's mistakes'. ‘New technology allows for an ecosystem & technology tied to a marketplace & community where people can keep as much of their money in this ecosystem as possible to get anything that they would have needed more money for in another scenario'. ‘There are many different markets for currency and crypto & I think the winners will be agnostic in any regard'. Lucinda welcomes mental health consultant Petra Velzeboer to discuss the importance of prioritising mental health in the workplace. They explore the signs of burnout and the 12-stage process that leads to it, emphasising the need for prevention and self-awareness. Petra shares practical tips for managing stress, including setting boundaries, reevaluating values, and addressing digital well-being. They also discuss the impact of meeting culture and inefficiencies in the workplace. KEY TAKEAWAYS Prevention is important, as burnout can take a long time to recover from. The 12 stages of burnout include proving oneself, working harder, neglecting needs, displacing conflict, revising values, denying the problem, withdrawal, behavior change, inner emptiness, depression, and burnout. It is important to prioritise one's own well-being and create boundaries in order to manage stress effectively. Taking control of digital well-being and reevaluating meeting culture can also contribute to reducing stress and increasing productivity. BEST MOMENTS "We're seeing a lot of real issues these days around topics such as burnout, working culture, things like that." "What we do know is that when you hit full-on burnout, it can take up to two years, sometimes more, to fully recover." Neil Cameron explores the idea of expanding our perspective as tutors, teachers, and coaches. He encourages listeners to see themselves as business people who happen to teach, rather than being confined to a narrow definition of their profession. Neil shares his own journey of branching out into various fields, such as writing books, collaborating on music, and mentoring others in property investment. He emphasises the importance of thinking beyond the boundaries of teaching and considering how one's skills and expertise can fit into a broader business ecosystem. By doing so, Neil believes that individuals can unlock new opportunities and live up to a bigger, broader definition of themselves and their businesses. KEY TAKEAWAYS Embrace a broader definition of your tutoring, teaching, or coaching business as part of a larger business ecosystem. Consider how your unique teaching method can be turned into a product, such as a book or course, to reach a wider audience and generate additional income. Think like a publisher or marketer to explore new business opportunities and expand your offerings beyond teaching. Sketch out your business ecosystem, identifying connections and barriers between different businesses and opportunities. Avoid limiting yourself to a narrow definition of your role and instead strive for a bigger, broader definition that gives you something to aspire to. BEST MOMENTS "We're, in my opinion, business people who happen to teach. That's our primary service."  "Your business doesn't need to exist in isolation and it shouldn't exist in isolation. All around it, there are other businesses and other opportunities."  "What if you could turn that into a product, into a book or a course that could be sold worldwide and could help more people? What would that do for your business and for you?"  "A limited definition like that or a self-statement is a prophecy you'll live down to. A bigger, broader definition of who and what you are gives you something else. It gives you something to live up to."  "Think about your ecosystem. Put it out on paper. Have a look at it. We're recording this episode shortly after the Resourcing Tomorrow conference in London, where Greg shared some examples of what Teck has been up to in this space, so we hear some additional details directly from Greg and Andrea about recent AI developments. KEY TAKEAWAYS Teck Resources, a leading mining company, has successfully leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) and digital analytics to drive value in the mining industry. The company's Race 21 program, which stands for Renew, Automate, Connect, and Empower, focused on sensorisation, data connectivity, automation, and leveraging advanced analytics to solve real-world mining problems. Teck Resources has seen significant success in deploying digital solutions that have had a positive impact on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughputs, recoveries, and water treatment. The company is now focused on operationalising its software development capability and scaling its commercial-grade solutions across all of its mining operations. Teck Resources is actively seeking collaboration with other mining organisations to drive innovation and create a mining digital technology ecosystem. They believe that collaboration and sharing of technologies and techniques will lead to the greatest sustainable value for the industry as a whole. BEST MOMENTS "We're constantly changing... We have merged the technology expertise with the SME knowledge."  "Digital analytics is tech's in-house software development capability... providing stable and predictable outcomes at our operations."  "We realised that there was likely a significant potential there that we could go after... there's something here." Camouflaging: Why Neurodivergents Mask, Compensate and Assimilate

Aniesa explores the reasons behind camouflaging, which has three categories: compensation, masking and assimilation. Aniesa talks about what these can look like, why so many neurodivergent people feel the need to camouflage and talks about how we can demystify and educate everyone on camouflaging. KEY TAKEAWAYS Masking is essentially changing your personality and natural way of being to fit in, to be perceived as neurotypical. Camouflaging in the natural world is an evolutionary trait that has developed to help creatures protect themselves which is why it lends itself so well as a descriptor of neurodivergent masking. Neurodivergents are trying to camouflage themselves alongside neurotypicals, to go undetected, seen as ‘normal' and appropriate. Camouflaging can be a way to avoid feeling the shame often attached to neurodiversity. There are consequences for camouflaging, from burnout to feeling anxious. Those who are neurodivergent learn that they get a negative reaction from being themselves. Many feel like if they don't mask they will be excluded and isolated. Assimilation is masking on a higher level, you create untrue versions of yourself, usually multiple ones depending on who you are with. BEST MOMENTS "We're really talking about changing our natural personalities so that we can fit” “I like the idea of camouflaging as a word as it's a really strong tactic” “The consequences of camouflaging are huge, they are so detrimental” “When you're compensating you're trying to keep up with others socially but when your masking you're hiding key aspects of yourself, just so you can fit in” “We all mask every single day” CONTACT METHODwww.instagram.com/aniesabblore/           www.instagram.com/sensationalkidstherapyuk/    www.facebook.com/sensationalkidslondon ABOUT THE HOST Aniesa completed her degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Stellenbosch, in South Africa. She has since been focusing on pediatrics and sensory processing and integration. She has worked across a range of pediatric fields and has extensive experience in autism, specific learning difficulties, as well as anxiety and emotional regulation. Aniesa has one teenage son with autism, and one with sensory difficulties. She herself was diagnosed at a late age as having ADHD and has found that understanding her neurodivergence has led to a greater connection with children and their parents.

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Keith Amoss to talk about mentally turning the clock back, and finding childlike curiosity, energy and everything that comes with being a young person; whilst amalgamating it with the wisdom of a senior. KEY TAKEAWAYS Old tyres with no tread left get mashed up and turned into material for children's playparks. This is a fabulous concept; taking something that's good and bad (like our childhood experiences), taking the good bits and see how you can use them now as an adult, what have you learned? A while back I met some old school friends after many years, sharing jokes and stories on Facebook. We decided to meet up in Canada. One guy used to be the cool guy who everyone looked up to and idolised, another was into motorcycling and was a bit of greaser, and I was a bit middle-of-the-road listening to David Bowie and being abstract. When we got together we didn't stop talking and were at ease in each other's company and we managed to think of a few incidences from our school days and our perspectives were different, especially about each other. Perhaps we should ask people we've known over the years “what did you think/make of me?”, but that's a very difficult question to ask people. Relatively speaking, the type of person that you were as a younger person/teenager, whether that's generous, kind, giving, supportive, friendly, it's still there throughout your life. Where you see examples of that is when you see people with genuinely childlike qualities in the way they act as an adult. Humour is classic case. You can recycle yourself, but you need to know that things that you need to drop from your teenage years, the things that cause you pain, the things that you need to overcome, the self-work you need to do, and take the good bits. How do we prevent ourselves from wallowing in the past? There is a risk that you look back and see them as the good old days when you were confident and you had everything going for you, you were happy and had so much to offer. It's both quite complicated but also extremely simple to live in the moment. You also need to be spending about 20% of your time living in the future though, because you need to pay the bills, plan and book trips, etc. However, you're doing all that stuff today. BEST MOMENTS‘We're all tarins going through other peoples' stations; we go through, we stop for a while, they see a little bit of us, and then we move on'. ‘It's not what you say, it's what you make someone feel that counts'. ‘The concept of the recycled teenager in essence is about recalling the past and having the memory, but without having particularly the negative emotion that was associated with things that went on'. ‘We make assumptions that people, when they're older, have got it, they understand it, they know what's going on, they don't get nervous, they've got their act together. Talking to  my father who's in his 80s you realise that even though you've been through a lot of life you still don't understand how things work, you're still uncertain, you can still have all those emotions of nervousness, uncertainty and fear'. There is more pressure than ever being put on CEOs in the world right now, from the financial crisis to the explosion of AI application in the workforce, it's not easy. In this episode, Andrea talks about changing your mindset to help you deal with these challenges and offers some practical tips on what you can do to manage being a CEO in one of the most difficult periods in history. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being a CEO today is very different to the past, many CEOs aren't hopeful for the future. Recent surveys reflect that CEOs are under intense scrutiny from employees and boards and many of them are struggling with this pressure. Some believe we need to reevaluate the role of a CEO in these modern and demanding times. If leaders and CEOs can challenge their own mindsets, particularly around perceived complexity, they will be able to tackle the many difficulties presented to them as a modern CEO. Challenge what you perceive as a fact, it may just be your perception and that means it can be changed. BEST MOMENTS"We're really going to talk about the future of a CEO” “Being a CEO during these times, is not maybe viewed in the same way” “2023 is a nightmare for even the toughest leader” “It's about changing your mindset in order to get a different possibility in your mind” “Most of the things you perceive as a fact are just interpretations” VALUABLE RESOURCES Like the show? He previously shared his experience of transforming a 500-year-old castle into an exclusive rural wedding venue. We discuss the challenges the team have faced during the last two-years, including lots of building challenges, operational lessons and navigating the aftershock of the pandemic. He also highlights the unique approach they take, offering a more relaxed and personalised wedding experience, and emphasises the importance of creating a space where guests can come together and enjoy each other's company.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Wedderlie has successfully established itself as a residential wedding venue, attracting couples who want to bring their loved ones together for a weekend of celebration and relaxation. The venue offers exclusive use of the property, including accommodation for up to 54 people (excluding babies), two barns, and additional outdoor spaces. The venue has seen a steady increase in bookings and inquiries, with couples booking weddings up to 2026. The owners are continuously evaluating their pricing and value proposition to ensure they are competitive in the market. The owners have learned from quickly from initial mistakes and have made massive improvements to the property. They continue to invest in the venue to enhance the overall experience for couples and their guests. BEST MOMENTS "We're semi-DIY, so we still employ two full-time events coaches."  "We're sold out for next year, which is great. We are halfway through 2025 with bookings. We've just experienced our best week yet for inquiries."  "We're twice what we charged for our initial bookings. This time I'm joined by James Rankin of Instant Group to discuss the latest report on the flex space market in the UK. Instant Group is a leading provider of data insights and consultancy in the flexible workspace industry, and James shares insights from the report, highlighting the current challenges and trends in the market. We discuss the shift in occupancy, the demand for sustainability, and the importance of differentiation in the industry. We also touch on the increasing involvement of landlords in the flex space market and the potential for future growth.  KEY TAKEAWAYS The flexible workspace market in the UK is facing challenges in terms of slow demand recovery post-COVID, profitability being squeezed, and difficulty in increasing rates. The occupancy rates in the UK flexible workspace market remain high, averaging around 80-83%, with most occupiers staying for an average of four to five years. While London has seen an increase in flexible workspace supply, there is a lack of quality flexible space in secondary and tertiary markets, leading to an imbalance in supply and demand. The shift towards sustainability is becoming increasingly important, with corporate clients prioritising sustainability metrics and demanding data on emissions and other sustainability factors from flexible space providers. BEST MOMENTS "We're in a tough market right now, whether you're in the traditional sector or the flexible workspace sector."  "We're seeing occupancy rates in the UK remain at some of the highest levels that we've ever seen, averaging around 80 to 83 percent across the UK." "A 10% shift in occupancy from traditional to flex space would require a 5.2 multiple increase of the current flexible supply across the UK to get to that demand level." "It's the sort of thing that people are really caring about right now." www.theinstantgroup.com for Office statistics and data. www.instantoffices.com for office space search. Speaking From Our Hearts

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 20, 2023 35:08

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul and Kristin Johnson are joined by Daniel Gasser to talk about how we, as humans, can embrace AI and the unknowns that come with it. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most of us don't deal well with the unknown, which is a shame because our brains and our whole being is built for the unknown. As soon as we come out of our mothers it's unknown, the whole of life is unknown and, the older I get  the more I ask myself: Is it really human nature to fear the unknown or are we just trained by the system and ‘value givers' that we should fear the unknown? We're born curious otherwise we wouldn't learn to walk or speak, anything. My guess is that we're not afraid of it, we're told to be afraid of it. Some people preach that every new technology is dangerous. When steam trains were developed, seriously intelligent people said that if you travel faster than 100mph your face will be ripped off your skull. They were taken seriously and people would say they'd never take a train, it's the same with people fearing ChatGPT will take over their jobs. Trains did take over some jobs, but they created a whole lot of new jobs and industries too. I used ChatGPT and realised that this thing is cool! The fear went, and the more I interact with AI, the more I use tools built with AI, the more I also make money with it – yes,, I make money with it, I'm a businessman as well as a coach. The more I dive into it the more I see what it is today and what it could look like tomorrow. But, I'm still way more divine and creative as a human being than this little machine with a stack of data interpretation is ever going to be. Use it or don't, but fear never brings anything good. When we're in a fearful state, we shut down our creativity, spirituality, and our love, we reduce ourselves to an animal, to fight or flight. Knowing that, I can ask myself what I have to do in my mind and emotionally to overcome fear and become emotionally intelligent again? For the emotional part; calm down, meditate, get out of the way in your mind and you'll find the fear fades away slowly but surely and you can think and be creative and function again. The better your emotions become, you become emotionally and otherwise intelligent again. BEST MOMENTS‘We're all assuming that it's going to be very bad, that AI is going to eat us alive, take our jobs, take over our lives, do everything. Why are we always assuming the worst?' ‘Need to change our mindset to maybe plan for the worst but expect the best'. ‘I was frightened to death when AI came out, but then I remembered that fear is not a good advisor and the best remedy for fear is taking action'. ‘Our planet is in such a bad state because, collectively, we're negative'. Finding various yet consistent ways to drive value for their clients is one of Data Society's core values. Processes to quantify customer feedback have been essential, Data Society ensures they do customer evaluation at multiple steps throughout the customers' journey. Humans are social animals and learning solo can be limiting. If you learn with others, such as your colleagues, it can be a lot more effective. Data Society tailors their programmes to clients' use cases, ensuring it's actionable means that it has a higher retention rate; people stick with it. We use AI to either do something by following a pattern or to make a recommendation based on a pattern it has learnt from. So, your organisation needs to be able to collect relevant data to utilise AI effectively. Scouting for Growth
Frank Mendoza: From Data Analytics to Responsible AI

Scouting for Growth

On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Frank Mendoza, a revered figure in the realm of data analytics and AI strategy. His contributions to Fortune 500 companies like Nike, Kelloggs, Keurig Dr Pepper, and Jim Beam as the founder of Catalytics have revolutionised the way these organisations leverage big data, artificial intelligence and advanced analysis.Frank offers practical recommendations to implement AI, making this seemingly daunting technology accessible and actionable demystifies AI, shares his strategic insights, and helps us scout for growth in this exciting field. KEY TAKEAWAYS Over the last 8 years I've worked with some really top brands to introduce analytics concepts like machine learning and chatbots. The hype has really got big in the last few months around what's called generative AI, which is a little bit different from what we've historically called AI or machine learning, but in a nutshell it's got people really excited and companies really want to take advantage and be able to demonstrate a competitive advantage to some of their competitors. It's a really exciting time to be in this space. One of the challenges/constraints all companies face, large or small, is time. Big companies have the ability to throw money at it, small companies don't have that luxury, but they really need to focus their attention. When I approach a company to talk about the potential of leveraging AI, I want to focus on where exactly they're going to be using it and making sure there's a direct tie to business value. There are so many tools that have been thrown out onto the market it's caused a lot of analysis paralysis and businesses are struggling to figure out which tools they should use, where, why and who should be using them. You really need to have a strategic approach to how you're leveraging these technologies to make sure you're getting the biggest bang for the buck. Customers have given you the privilege of providing you with information about themselves that's very important to them, but for you as well to grow your business. How you use that information, where you provide that information to models, all those things are very vital to ensure that you're doing the things necessary to protect that information. OpenAI and Chat GPT have the ability to retrain on the questions that you're asking – those are situations where you really want to provide guard rails/guidelines to your organisation about what you're allowing them to put into there. Generative AI solutions have been trained on publicly available data, images, etc. Our society is moving  - I believe – in a positive direction, but it has not moved all the way to where it needs to move. The net result of that is that there is a lot of information out there that's still filled with biases, hate, etc. You want to make sure that when you're leveraging these tools that you take into account these biases and those inherent challenges with leveraging these models and ensuring that you have a level of human judgement in the loop. BEST MOMENTS‘We're now shifting the paradigm from inventing with tools to tools inventing. There are things the tools are doing that are creating something that hasn't existed before.'‘One thing that no organisation can waste is resources and time.'‘Every organisation is unique and the applications of AI are going to be unique to those as well.'‘The ability for you to execute AI is predicated upon your quality of information. I encourage organisations to start looking at that and take advantage of “data enablement” to enable businesses to move forward. It's a daunting task but you don't want to boil the ocean, that's where I help organisations understand where exactly they should put their focus, energy and effort.' Bob Elliott previously worked with Ray Dalio for 14 years, and was the head of his investment committee and was also involved in creating the largest hedge fund in the world with over 100 Billion Dollars! Bob recently co-founded the charity GiveWell and is now the co-founder and CEO of Unlimited, an investment start-up that uses propriety tech for alternative investments to give access to all. He joins Ryan to talk about what drove him to create such a company, the things he has learnt from his experience in the finance industry as well as what he sees for the future of tech and AI in how the economy operates and functions. KEY TAKEAWAYS Unlimited democratizes unique alternative investments that otherwise wouldn't be available to 99% of people. Unlimited isn't just democratizing access to the returns but bringing institutional equality and information to every investor. Utilising content platforms is a way to show proof that you have the expertise in the industry to help engage advisors and investors where they already are. Content creation in these places builds the credibility needed to convert them into clients. The thing that got Bob excited was not to create his own investment fund but how he could in fact bring unique investment opportunities to everyone, how he could create a start-up to make this possible. The problem with hedge funds and managers is they charge very high fees, if you can bring the fees down then it radically transforms the result for the investor. Using the right technology allows Unlimited to offer its services at a much lower cost than traditional avenues. The things we have learnt about the world in the past 40 years around finance are no longer going to work in the future and we need to be prepared for that. Advances in technology, including AI will help with company productivity which in turn helps employees, it won't be replacing everyone's jobs like some of the fear rhetoric out there. BEST MOMENTS “[We're] bringing that sort of institutional quality investment insight and making it freely available to everyone” “It nagged at me whether there was a way to bring those sophisticated asset management strategies and bring them to the everyday investor” “Weak growth and weak economic activity and falling stock prices isn't that bad if you can protect yourself from that by holding bonds in your portfolio” Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io  EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.linkedin.com/in/ttoillebob/ ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC-backed company without taking on investors? Discover how this unique approach to networking leads to predictable results from word of mouth marketing and real business growth. Clay Hicks is an entrepreneur with a portfolio of 5 different companies, including H7 Network and he is on the podcast today.    KEY TAKEAWAYS H7 Network is a networking hub for the following values and principles, these are: Connect - Serve - Ask - Influence - Focus - Champion -  and Win-Win. H7 network is an invitation only group to prevent those who just want to sell to the room from joining. Clay wants to build a community of people who really want to work with each other and grow each other's businesses.  The key to transforming your business is not just having customers, it's the relationships you build with those customers, with your staff, with your team, with your prospects. Having people know that you're reliable, trustworthy, and good to work with is more valuable than any marketing strategy you can have.  Connect, serve, and ask is the philosophy behind how Clay builds relationships with people in one on one business meetings. Simply put it's building a relationship, then giving them something they need, then asking them for something that you need. The connection part is the most important and that's why it comes first.  The real success in networking is becoming a champion for other people and them being a champion for you. It's about finding someone who is intentionally active in networking your skills to other people, instead of waiting for those opportunities to arise.    BEST MOMENTS ‘We're looking for a very strong community of professionals who want to grow their businesses, who also want to work with other people' ‘We had over 1000 visitors to our community all through word-of-mouth, not a single dollar spent on marketing'  ‘I keep smarter people around me than myself' ‘It's not just who you know, it's how you know them'   EPISODE RESOURCES    Clay Hicks - CEO and Founder - H7 Network | LinkedIn clayton@h7network.com H7 Network   VALUABLE RESOURCES Productize ebook Leave your comments on the show's facebook community page: https://www.facebook.com/Buildvaluebychoice Get your free valuation here: https://bit.ly/get-free-valuation Podcast website: https://infhorizons.com/podcast/ Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share it.   ABOUT THE GUEST    Clay Hicks is an entrepreneur with a portfolio of 5 different companies, an author, a speaker, and trainer on professional relationships. Steven Forth is the co-founder, managing partner and CEO of Ibakka, a software company which helpscompanies design their pricing as well as how to communicate that price and its value across the entire customer journey. Named one of the top ten pricing authorities in the world by Open View Venture, Steven joins Ryan to talk about all things pricing including how he has helped both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies drive returns and increase profits through pricing. Steven also reveals his framework on how to give value and measure it effectively as well as how he became the leader of a LinkedIn design thinking group with more than 200k members and why AI will eventually take over software. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ibakka relies heavily on partners and inbound sales for their go-to-market strategy. VC firms and private companies are Ibakka's key partners, who introduce them to clients. Ibakka is prolific on LinkedIn, for their own blog posts but also their engagement with others. Your price should be based on the value you are creating, Ibakka helps companies identify what this is and how to communicate it to their clients. They also track their own value for their clients so they can present this to them when it comes to renewal. You have to quantify your outcomes after the fact, to show clients your value to them. Often value and promises to a customer aren't tracked, which means when it comes to renewal the sales teams aren't armed with the information they need for one of the key factors in SaaS companies, retention! There are six ways you can make your customers' business better: help them increase revenue growth, help them decrease operating cost, increase operating capital, help them defer capital expenses, help them reduce risk or increase optionality. More and more companies are starting to worry about operating capital due to interest rate increases. So if you have a solution that can reduce this, this is a valuable area of growth. Many companies have increased prices due to general inflation, but this could be disastrous, you need to ask yourself, how is inflation affecting your customer's business and act accordingly. Steven attributes part of the success of his group to a ‘power law' in that the more people who join the group the more people want to join it. AI will take over all aspects of software in the next 5-10 years. BEST MOMENTS “We're prolific on LinkedIn, not just in our own blog posts but with other people” “Pricing is about a lot more than just sticking a number on a price tag” “The implementation and customer success teams often don't know what promises were made and nobody is tracking to see if they are being delivered” “The best salespeople are not all sales people” “2 years ago, because of interest rates people didn't care about increasing operating capital, today people are starting to care” “Just because inflation is increasing it doesn't give you a free pass on raising prices” “The more people that join a group the more people want to join it” “AI is eating software. Kiran Vangaveti is the founder and CEO of BluSapphire, a SaaS provider for Cyber Security. Kiran joins Ryan to talk about how he bootstrapped his way from 0 to $3million ARR, building on his 24 years of experience working in several fortune 100 companies. He talks about the founding principles of creating BluSapphire and the steps they took to build a capital-efficient company using an open-source model.  KEY TAKEAWAYS BluSapphire have seen an ROI of over 400% and has a current ARR of 3 million with an aim of increasing it to 200% over the next two years Before recently raising capital, BluSapphire mostly relied on word of mouth for its strategy but now they are slowly starting to build communities and channelling this way instead; establishing themselves as thought leaders. There is a lot of time wastage in cyber security. Triaging can take hours if not days, the concept behind BluDiamond is to fix this particular problem for cyber security companies in a variety of different technological ways. BluDiamond keeps its system as open-sourced as possible, which is unusual in the commercial space. This decision came from Kiran's enterprise background, to allow people to work with their tools effectively. One of the founding principles of BluDiamond was to raise a capital-efficient company. Technology is great but you have to know how to operate a business, and one of the highly effective ways to do that, is to bootstrap. In the beginning, BluDiamond took on a few clients, enough to sustain them, then once their product went live they purely focused on product-driven services. BEST MOMENTS “We're looking at security as a service” “Our aim is to establish ourselves as thought leaders in the space” “The idea is to keep it as flexible as possible” “We always believed in trading in the black, being capital efficient” Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io  EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.linkedin.com/in/kiranvangaveti/ ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC-backed company without taking on investors? Speaking From Our Hearts
The Greatest Challenge With Life Is... (1) – Paul D. Lowe & Rebecca Wheele

Speaking From Our Hearts

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 23, 2023 34:48

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest &  host Rebecca Wheele to deep-dive a conversation about what they each think is the greatest challenge in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Rebecca: For me, the biggest challenge in life is myself and knowing oneself. There are all sorts of identities we get wrapped up in life, from the facts (hair colour/gender/etc) to what we do as a job, what we're good at, what we practice, how we show up in the world. I am a creative person, a designer and artist. But it's a part of who I am not who I am. One of the challenges in life is to dismantle that identity to peel back the layers and to tap into he true essence of who we are rather than the thing we've wrapped round ourselves. Paul: I've never really run with the crowd, in fact I've run against the crowd. But there was a small part of that, when I reflect back, that was just to be different, which itself is an identity thing: “I don't want to run with the crowd”. But, I knew who I wasn't. And, I think often times to know who we aren't is a good stepping stone to get closer to finding out who we actually are. I have a story that I'm not good at communication and I've reflected on that recently. What it is in the moments when I have a fear of judgement in a situation where I feel like I'm not enough or I'm putting someone else on a pedestal, or feeling like there's going to be judgement about what I say. That actually hinders my ability to be able to express what's inside. A small belief like that starts to play out. If you suppress an emotion as it comes up all it does is start to bubble up. It's like building a dam to block a river, the river and the flow of water doesn't go away, eventually what will happen is it will burst over the top. In the moment of feeling that emotion, you should be able to express it in a safe space with someone to release that energy and be heard. BEST MOMENTS ‘We're kind of like chameleons, we change our colours to blend in with the outside world, and maybe we shouldn't.' ‘What is serving us in our identity?' ‘Once you know where your base is it's OK to leave base.' ‘Another of the greatest challenges in life is to love oneself, especially in moments of anger and frustration. It's easy to love yourself if something's gone well or you've achieved something, but the challenge is to love yourself in the darker moments.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Rebecca Wheele who takes the reigns and goes on some deep dives with Paul about Alice In Wonderland and going down rabbit holes in life and how that relates to Steve Jobs. KEY TAKEAWAYS Think of the riverbank, the water is chaotic and can go anywhere, but the riverbank, which is solid and un-fluid, holds it in a place where it can dance and flow. The two together are really powerful, like the yin and yang. When we're children we're creating worlds and lands and invisible friends, the imagination in a child is off the scale, there's no limit to it. Curiouser and curiouser, nothing's impossible. Childlike curiosity is what captures people's hearts with Alice in Wonderland, there's a freedom in going into a world where it's magical and wonderous. I feel there's a part of everyone that is drawn to that because there's freedom in it. Alice in Wonderland represents the child's struggle to survive in the confusing world of adults (dare I say this need for certainty). To understand our adult world, Alice has to overcome the open-mindedness that is characteristic for children, apparently adults need to live by rules. Children are taken through constrictions by adults. To a certain degree they need that. Rules are interesting because they can constrict things, unless we have the awareness to dance with the rules or at least be aware of why the rule is there, and question them and if they're always going to be that way. There's a fluidity and creativity within children that can be suppressed by adults The people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are those who do. I feel this Steve Jobs quote describes us at World Game-Changers. But, with Alice's childlike curiosity, she believed in the good, she had the trust to drink the potion and eat the cake, she had the courage to go on a journey of self-discovery. That's not a bad lesson for us to learn, is it? BEST MOMENTS ‘We're always looking for the definitive, polarised, binary answer, aren't we? In marketing terms, that silver bullet. There isn't a right or a wrong.' ‘What is growing up? Physically we grow up, but it insinuates that you become serious, and you lose that playfulness, fun and magic when you become an adult.' ‘If I had a wound of my own, everything would be nonsense, nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't and, contrary-wise, what it wouldn't be and what it wouldn't be it would, you see? Scouting for Growth
Meeri Savolainen: Inzmo... Driving home rental resilience

Scouting for Growth

On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Meeri Savolainen, CEO and co-founder of Inzmo, a fast-growing European financial services provider, making renting a home affordable for everyone.  Inzmo is considered to be the fourth runner in creating a new standard for how people rent their homes. With more than 70,000 customers and over 400% growth in 2022, Inzmo has acquired recognition and investments from several insurers in Europe As an entrepreneur by trade, Meeri is passionate about breaking new ground to lead social change. She shares that the core innovation lies in understanding customer needs, struggles, and their values. "At Inzmo, we design our services around this purpose - this is what makes us authentic. We put the customer first.”  During their discussion, they cover what makes Inzmo a leader in its category across European's rental and cash deposit market, Meeri's interest in communication, relationships psychology, and strategic intervention, Inzmo's innovation journey across Europe… Opportunities and challenges, and Team Inzmo: What is next to scale? KEY TAKEAWAYS I was a corporate and tax lawyer for quite a few years at Ernst & Young, and I started thinking that I wanted to grow more, take more risks and become an entrepreneur. When I began Inzmo with my co-founder, we wanted to create a digital disruption in the insurance industry because it was lagging behind on the technology side. As things proceeded and developed, we wanted to create a strong brand in the insurance sector. We wanted to mediate our own products. We didn't just want to be an IT company or an enabler for insurance companies. Since 2016 we've become more consumer-faced. We're creating innovation in the insurance industry by automating processes in underwriting and, first and foremost, the whole customer experience. We believe success in the future for insurance companies and InsurTechs relies on customer success and experiences. We understand that the majority of our customers are also vendors, and 80% of those customers are living paycheque to paycheque. This means that they have a financial burden daily, and 40% of their income goes to pay for rent, utilities, etc. These are the people we want to help with our different financial and digital solutions. Insurance is a very male-dominated industry, though it is getting better. I'm proud to say that at Inzmo, 50% of the employees are women, and 60% of the c-level/ management staff are female. Being a woman gives us much more opportunities to stand out. It's also good for PR – especially for a small company like Inzmo, which doesn't have a limitless budget – to get visibility. It does, of course, have its downsides as well. Women struggle more to get VC funding because they need to prove their success more than men. After all, there's still a strong bias, even though the data proves otherwise. BEST MOMENTS ‘We're always trying to find our niche. We don't want to be another traditional insurance company or fight with the bigger companies.'‘Renting rather than home ownership is a growing trend globally because people want a flexible lifestyle. We want to be an enabler in this new lifestyle.'‘Inzmo means “insurance” and “mobile,” insurance that is always accessible – it's instant, it's always there, and very easy to follow.'‘We've been focussed on the German market so that we could prove we'd done well in one very significant market, but in the next 12-24 months we're ready to expand to other European rental markets, the most interesting to us are Spain, Italy, Portugal, and France.' ABOUT THE GUEST Meeri, also called Mrs InsurTech, is strongly driven by innovation, meaning the development of new products, services, and processes within a forward-thinking world.  She specialized in developing innovative, creative and visionary products and services for the insurance sector. A serial entrepreneur with a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change, with management experience and the ability to lead and build high-performing teams. She is interested in communication and relationships psychology - currently focussing also on developing her knowledge in Strategic Intervention (also known as SI). SI is dedicated to extracting the most practical and effective forms of strategic action and communication from various disciplines: Ericksonian therapy, Human Needs Psychology, organizational psychology, neurolinguistics, psychology of influence, strategic studies, traditions of diplomacy and negotiation, and others. A practical method for acting strategically to get things done is also that human needs are fulfilled and elevated. LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/meeri-savolainen-b5a85b25/  About Inzmo Inzmo is a fast-growing financial services provider in Europe, making renting a home affordable for everyone. The team's aim is to become #1 provider of zero-deposit solutions for EU renters. We believe the core innovation lies in understanding customer needs, struggles, and their values. Inzmo designs services around this purpose - this is what makes the team truly authentic. Inzmo puts the customer first. Always. The team thinks big, takes risks, innovates constantly, hires the best, and strives to earn customers' trust. Inzmo is the fourth runner in creating a new standard for how people rent their homes. With over 70,000 customers and over 400% growth in 2022, Inzmo has acquired recognition and investments from several insurers in Europe. In 2017, the company was recognized as the best fin-tech company in the StartUp Europe Awards by the European Commission, and in 2019 awarded as the Insurance Shaper of the Year. Inzmo's customers are renters, primarily for mid-term and long-term rental homes. Today, finding a home online might be easy, but the road to moving in is time-consuming as the 600 billion EUR annual private rental market in the EU is still operating offline. To finalize a rental agreement, one must provide proof of income, a cash deposit (3 months rent), home contents, and liability insurance. This takes 1-2 weeks and thousands of euros for cash deposit. Inzmo is solving all these four pain points with one insurance product that you can get in seconds online for a small monthly premium. As Inzmo focuses on covering each customer when he or she signs up for a rental home, the team sees this as an opportunity to serve the customer for the whole rental cycle with different insurance products and services. Speaking From Our Hearts
Being Immersed In The Present Moment, What A Gift (2) – Paul D. Lowe & Rebecca Wheele

Speaking From Our Hearts

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 19, 2022 32:20

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Rebecca Wheele for the second part of their podcast after their unplanned, free-wheeling conversation that forced them to be in the moment and how it affected them. KEY TAKEAWAYS I can't remember what we talked about on the last podcast, which is interesting because that's an indication of that pure immersion of being in the moment. Perhaps we were exploring uncharted waters, new territory which is always really interesting in a conversation where you're dancing around different ideas at the moment.  We can use control if it's serving us but having the awareness to know what's underneath the surface of that control – it  always comes from somewhere – having the awareness to know where it's coming from and why can really help us to navigate because then we can understand if it's helping us or not. We can go through life often with the tendency to put the blame outside of us, saying things like “I've only ever known it this way”, “this is how I was brought up”, “this is why I'm x, y, z”. You can take back control by taking responsibility for yourself rather than putting the blame on the external. We carry so much baggage, and if we hold on to it or our mind wanders to something that happened in the past we can get stuck there and take it on as baggage if we don't let it go. There's such lightness to be experienced in life by letting go. It's a key part of being in the moment, the moment is right now, everything else – the future and the past – lives in our heads. BEST MOMENTS ‘We're always changing, evolving and shifting. In some moments a need for control can be more than in other moments. People labelling themselves this or that is quite curious. We construct ourselves when we do that.' ‘To varying degrees, each individual has their experience with pain or suffering in their life and trying to escape or run away from that, or control it to not experience that again, it can get out of control by how that manifests in your life without the awareness.' ‘Any situation in life that happens can show you where you're not free or where you're attached to some story or something that circles back to a degree of the self.' ‘The thing that never changes within us is our true essence, our soul. Everything else that changes and shifts and dies and comes and goes is not actually us, not who we are.' He is also producing an online course. They discuss why so many people are feeling depressed these days. Francis explains a few simple strategies anybody can use to counter this, deal with anger and help to process your emotions in a healthy way. As well as how to spot the signs that you or someone you know is depressed.KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone is impacted by depression at some stage in their lives. We either know someone with it or have it ourselves. You must understand your thought processes and learn how to keep them healthy. We need to be particularly vigilant about the mental health of 15- to 23-year-olds. The pandemic has affected them deeply. When you get angry, count to 10. It provides time for your anger to dissipate, which is why it works. Negative emotions, including anger, catch us all out at times. You have to be on guard for it at all times. Often, losing interest in your hobbies or other things you felt passionate about is an early sign of depression. Remember setbacks are what happen just before comebacks. Having a strong purpose and working on things that you feel passionate about helps you and everyone around you. If you lose track of time while doing something, that is likely to be your purpose. BEST MOMENTS‘We're all going to either be affected by or know somebody who is going to be affected by depression.,'‘Whatever emotions you have you've got to process them. Because when you acknowledge it, you feel better.'‘I firmly believe that the best leaders are vulnerable. They're authentic, they're honest.'‘Having depression has been a blessing in disguise.'EPISODE RESOURCESDepression Lies by Dr Francis Ikhenemoh / https://www.amazon.co.uk/DEPRESSION-LIES-Overcome-Depression-Masterpiece/dp/1916373658/World Game Changers: https://worldgamechangers.org/People with purpose make a difference. What a world that would be - People everywhere finding meaning and harnessing that to bring inspiration and energy to each and every day, changing lives for the better. But no one ever achieved anything on their own - we all have something unique to bring and that means we all have to play our part - if we want to go far, we have to go together and lead or serve towards a vision of the world we want to see. Nina Aouilk is known as the Londons Life Coach, she is a survivor of abuse and an advocate for breaking the silence. She joins Dawn today to talk all about her own experiences of trauma and abuse and how she helps others in violent relationships and situations. Dawn and Nina also talk about the difficulties of the world and society women and girls face today, motherhood and why you should always unapologetically be yourself. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nina created the concept of ‘Losers lunch' which is a room she hosts on clubhouse. The idea behind it is that it's an accumulation of people across the world giving their own perception on a topic by people who have lost something. All three of Nina's children have had a unique impact on her but all three of them gave her a sense or purpose and a strength she didn't have before becoming a mother. Nina had a difficult childhood, she wasn't loved as she should have been by her parents and endured neglect and abuse. As an adult, Nina suffered serious abuse from her partner including death threats and attempts. Her youngest son spoke out at school and this led to Nina having the push to leave. Leaving her abusive partner made Nina realise she had the strength and resilience to make the life she and her children deserved. Up until this point, it was as if Nina didn't realise she had the choice to leave. Nina has had to learn to use her voice, actions and mannerism to advocate for herself and ask for things. She spent so many years nurturing and looking after everyone else that she didn't realise she had her own needs too. There is no competition in trauma and grief. You can't compare peoples trauma. Peoples pain and suffering is their own. BEST MOMENTS “We're all losers sometimes and we just have to admit to it to become better people” “The day my daughter was born I felt this surge of love, this surge of purpose” “It was not uncommon for a daughter to be treated as I was at that time” “Abuse followed me like a bad penny and that mentality that I had of not deserving any better became my reality so much so I didn't realise I had a choice”  "What you are doing by leaving is freeing yourself...it's an ongoing journey" CONTACT METHOD https://www.instagram.com/theawakeningwithdawn dawn@theawakeningwithdawn.com ABOUT THE HOST Dawn Rishárd, M.A. with 20 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage, and Family Systems, I empower people to release the past, open their hearts, and receive the love they desire. Jerome Friedman, CPO and Co-founder of SpotOn, speaks to Ryan about the multiple start-ups he has built, what inspired him to create SpotOn and the unique solutions it offers to their customers. KEY TAKEAWAYS SpotOn has created multiple platforms and solutions that help restaurants, retail and a whole host of other small businesses at point os sale. Since the birth of SpotOn, Jerome has helped build it from nothing to a valuation of 3 billion dollars and employer of 2000 employees in just four years. SpotOn's primary go-to-market strategy is direct sales, with a 500+ sales rep team who directly build strong relationships with their customers to offer and create solutions specifically for them. SpotOn are constantly creating technology and products to help solve the pain points and difficulties that businesses face. Everything SpotOn do is to help businesses save revenue, decrease costs and give great services to their customers. Jerome's father was his main inspiration to becoming an entrepreneur, even though he warned him against the stress and difficulties you face in the entrepreneurial lifestyle. But, Jerome just knew that it's what he wanted to do and if he could be half the entrepreneur his Dad was he will have done well in life! At 21 he created a bagel business across colleges on the west coast which became successful, he then had the concept of creating on-demand credit cards and so found the tech people he needed to build it with him. At 40 after managing with some difficult financial situations in this business, Jerome decided to start again and this is when and where SpotOn was born. You must find people in business to work with that compliment your weaknesses. Find those who are different to you and that have different strengths to help you build success. Spot On has one of the biggest percentage most women-leaders in a tech company. Two of the most recent additions to spot on solution is pacing technology for restaurant orders and stock tracking on multiple platforms for small retail businesses. During the pandemic SpotOn tried to do everything they could to help their clients. They asked their teams to work as hard as they could to help them, they released and built new systems before they were ready and even gave away free solutions. They cared and therefore helped in any and every way they could.   BEST MOMENTS “We're not always right, we make mistakes all the time. We have a saying, fail fast and pivot” “If we're to have empathy with our clients, we need to have empathy with each other” “We thought in order to make something really powerful we wanted to build it from the ground up” “If you can add value and save people money at the same time it's the biggest win in the world” Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets   Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io    EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.spoton.com ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC backed company without taking on investors? Andrea Breanna's life's work has been on building high traffic websites and is the straight talking founder of RebelMouse that has built two of the most important new media companies of this decade. It also powers content hubs and media properties for brands, like United Airlines, BlackRock, Flonase and many more.  Before that, she was CTO of HuffingtonPost, where she led product, design and engineering. In today's interview with Ryan she discusses both of these and much, much more.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Due to the rise and reliability of remote technologies, the physical office has less importance. Face to face still plays a key part, especially in sales, but for the day today running, you have the whole world to recruit from. As far as the customer experience goes, for a high percentage of companies the website will be the first point of contact and so many companies still fail to see the potential even now. Creating an ever evolving and positive user experience can guarantee return visits.  There's always the temptation to continue to burn money in VC funded companies because of the nature of the model. Moving away from that and switching to a more sustainable model may seem painful, but in the long run it can enhance your business. For a company, your sales team is the most important part of the company and as such can also be the most expensive if they're not completely on brand and aligned with your mission.    BEST MOMENTS ‘We're globally distributed. There are eighty-seven of us actually and we're in thirty-one countries. '  ‘Consumers don't have empathy for a bad website.”  ‘Now, a year and a half after announcing core web vitals, very few sites are getting a good grade. Most of them are getting absolute failures and that type of thing is what we keep all of our clients monitored on so it's not like each client has to worry about that, the platform worries about those things.' ‘What you're told is to learn to burn money.'     Do You Want The Closing Secrets That Helped Close Over $125 Million in New Business for Free?"  Grab them HERE: https://www.whalesellingsystem.com/closingsecrets   Ryan Staley Founder and CEO Whale Boss 312-848-7443 ryan@whalesellingsystem.com www.ryanstaley.io Andrea Breanna - https://www.linkedin.com/in/andreabreanna   ABOUT THE SHOW How do you grow like a VC backed company without taking on investors? The most important relationship you'll ever have is the one that you have with yourself. Dawn welcomes personal growth and self-empowerment expert, Brain Truskowski to show to discuss relationships, energy and our egos. Learn how to measure your relationships by your own metrics, how to embrace wild attraction and why when we break free of our conditioning we can fund the answers to love ourselves.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  It's important to understand that you don't need to meet some external metric of what society needs you to be in a relationship, career, vocation or personal life. If you have the right spirit, you will be provided with whatever money and resources you need, when you need it.    You have to have faith and trust that the things happening in your life are happening that way for a reason and it's only your ego and your mind separating from that agenda that creates something.   Our ego's attachment to our timeline creates our suffering, so if we form a romantic relationship and that fails it is our ego that is the source of the pain. But there is a plausible karmic component of past life experiences that can affect our relationships.   Wild attraction is about the spiritual, energetic and more esoteric components of attraction and why people get there. Falling in love is being attracted to a person on an unintentional, psychic subconscious level that is fitting the lock to your key.    Every person that comes into your life is there to teach you something and it's usually a reflection of where you're not loving and accepting yourself or where you're not being loving and accepting of another. BEST MOMENTS “We're conditioned to live in the world in one way and now, people are waking up to recognise that we can look for answers by ourselves.” “We need to control our ego and manipulate it on a micro-level.” “Play out karma and have experiences to grow. Life is about trying to find a balance and have experiences. “We all have our own mission.” “You have to face yourself so that you can enter into relationships and have these beautiful connections where you can truly be yourself.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES   CONTACT METHOD https://www.instagram.com/theawakeningwithdawn dawn@theawakeningwithdawn.com ABOUT THE HOST Dawn Rishárd, M.A. With 20 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Systems, I empower people to release the past, open their hearts, and receive the love they desire. The Greatest Curse for Any Entrepreneur

There's an entrepreneur curse that you need to avoid, but do you even know what it is? In today's episode discover what the curse is and how it affects us, learn how to overcome it and how you too can change a curse into an opportunity and become a “momentum junkie”. Many entrepreneurs jump at new opportunities before finishing existing projects, learn today how to focus your momentum to maximise results and distribute your time wisely.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The greatest curse for an entrepreneur is the constant “start, stop, start, stop” cycle. Many entrepreneurs get lured in by new and exciting opportunities, sometimes they may not have that filter to see that now is not the right time. Many projects may go unfinished, or you may overwork yourself. Once you've started something, see it through. On average, it takes half an hour to get into momentum and for the good quality work to happen. If you're task jumping multiple times a day, you are wasting many hours of the day being distracted instead of focusing on key result areas. It is risky to just focus on one singular thing, many entrepreneurs are generalists. What you must become good at doing, is moving from task to task and being able to gain momentum instantly. As well as moving from task to task strategically. The time management model “70, 20, 10” encourages you to have as many as three streams of income, and distribute your time wisely. Your main focus should be your main source of income and enjoyment, and your time and focus filters down throughout your other two income streams.     BEST MOMENTS “We're great at starting things, we take risks.” “Become a momentum junkie.” “We have to be generalists as entrepreneurs.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/   ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Jonathan Dempsey is the director of Red Laces, a relatively new consultancy focussed on providing strategic delivery, inspections, audits and incident management. Jonathan is an MBA graduate and Fellow Of The International Institute Of Risk And Safety Management, known for his progressive approach to business. In this first of a special two-part conversation, Jonathan discusses the need for disruptive thinking in risk, the operational opportunities in technology, and why the polar ends of all companies need to find more effective ways to communicate in order to minimise risk. KEY TAKEAWAYS Red Laces are empowering businesses to improve profitability through more creative risk solutions, with a focus on people. The perceptions of any business can be in stark contrast from one end of the business to the other. For example, innovation may be a driver at the executive level, but on the ground level, it may almost be invisible. Risk and systems are often reduced to language. But risk is a people activity. Conditions change, and so do people. It needs to be an ever-evolving process that can easily adapt to fit the user and conditions. Brands often assume that their culture pervades all the way through the organisation, But these large firms are often built on acquisitions, and may contain cultures within cultures that still work to legacy standards. Social media and technology types are having a huge effect on the way we engage with our workforce. By embracing the creative opportunities in new platforms, we can better translate our values and core beliefs across organisations. If you're aiming for compliance, then you're aiming for “bronze”. However, if you're aiming for ”silver” then you have a far better chance of exceeding expectations. Red Laces provide a comprehensive, holistic appraisal of the risk in all departments of a business, working alongside all departments, and also taking into account departments such as IT and cyber. BEST MOMENTS ‘We're helping to demystify risk, but take a more holistic approach to add more value' ‘What do we hear? What do we see? What do we feel?' ‘I'm not dancing yet!' ‘Unless we evolve and innovate, we're going to be left behind' ‘Most businesses run on people as the energy' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Interesting Health And Safety Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/training-competency-creating-effective-plan-process/id1467771449?i=1000452692837  Red Laces - https://www.redlaces.co.uk/blank-page-1 ABOUT THE HOST Colin Nottage ‘Making health and safety as important as everything else we do.' Revenge, A Dish Best Served Cold... Or Not At All

Every generation has its opinions and wisdom about revenge. We're taught all too often that revenge should be equal to the crime, and even that we owe it ourselves or those we love, to take revenge when we're hurt.   But it's a mindset that holds far too many people back. Why, when we spend so much time planning and mapping out our goals and our path in life, should we then spend so much time away from that plan, so that we can get our own back when we feel we've been wronged.   In this episode, Gavan discusses this fascinating issue, and provides you with the tools and examples you'll need to remain focussed on what's important.  KEY TAKEAWAYS  Every judgment you make is not based on the facts that you believe are true. It's based on your perception of what fact is. It's filtered through prejudice, emotion and experience.      The energy wasted on chasing these false perceptions is tragic. Imagine the good you could do with that energy. Imagine the time you could save by concentrating on something positive instead.     In the heat of the moment, people can feel a burning desire to teach a lesson to those who have wronged us; to make them feel humility or to make them understand what they've done wrong.      Remember that if this person's crimes were an extension of their personality, then they'll most likely learn a lesson when they do the same thing to someone just like them down the line.     Set your own personal goals properly. Take careof the stuff that takes you towards them. That's the part we can control, and the only part we should control.      Instead of seeking revenge, aim for more personal success. Remember that karma will take care of the bad guys!  BEST MOMENTS  ‘We're all different, so why do so many look the same?'   ‘Let's get real. It's cancerous stuff we're talking about here'   ‘Your perception is probably based on the grey stuff, instead of the black and white you think it is'   ‘Get over yourself! Pray for them!'   ‘You'll have an arms race on your hands'   ‘Do better. Be better!'   ABOUT THE HOST  Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast.  Do you want success and abundance in your life?!  Do you want to hear how to achieve it?  Then you've come to the right place where the world's only Speed Mentor, Gavan Wall will mainline you with micro bite-sized chunks of inspiration fused with knowledge, built into a daily routine to help you deliver success.  After walking away, a decade ago from his gilded life as a leading Barrister and property investor, Gavan Wall started his entrepreneurial career in inauspicious circumstances as he lost everything in the property crash.  But he refused to give up, re-building a financial fortress from scratch, until now he leads multiple successful multi-million £ companies across FMCG, Franchise, Tech, Property and Mentoring.  He's the Speed Mentor and serial entrepreneur, who shares with you all the breadcrumbs of success and just as importantly the failures. If you listen, you can avoid the potholes and learn to conquer your fear and live a life of success and abundance just like him.  But be warned, his message can be stark and will not be for those seeking shortcuts. It's hard to accept that you need the help or that push so you could finally start progressing. Most of the time, it is a mentor alongside who makes it happen. And when you do realise you need one, make sure to find the best mentor suited for you. In this episode of the Steven Sully Study Podcast, Steven discusses why it's important to find a mentor. A mentor can guide in anything that needs improving in your life. There's a huge number of possible mentors out there but the one that best fits you might need a bit more of your time and energy. Steven gives some great tips on what to look at to make the search easy for you, so make sure to tune in! KEY TAKEAWAYS It doesn't have to be in every aspect of your life, you can seek help from your mentor for a certain aspect, may it be for your business, for your personal relationships, or for honing a skill. Who your mentor should be: He/she has expertise in the field and has already gained a lot of success. The mentor had similar challenges as you have or someone who could help you with your problems. He/she keeps you accountable. A good mentor has a good amount of energy in them. He brings out the positive vibes or the good feeling in you that can help you make amazing things. Invest your money to get the best mentor who could help you. BEST MOMENTS “We're all gonna have setbacks. No matter what you're gonna go into.” “When you go through challenges, it's all about attacking those challenges even if it's in the emotional or the mentality level.” “It's about putting yourself under that professional pressure and keeping yourself accountable.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Progressive Property Rob Moore  ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should focus on a number of key areas to be a well-rounded individual. Success should not be just one thing like money, for example, it should also consist of a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships. As a person who has made a success in life and also made some cock-ups, I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit of success. I started from leaving school at 16 with very poor school results to pursue a career in plumbing following the directions of my parents that then lead me to a barrister's chamber and then to a sales floor. From here, I established a foothold in the sales market promoting financial products as well as being a founder of an art agency that has a Soho based art studio. In addition, I have invested into an urban fashion brand and into a wellness tech company, and my latest addition to the business portfolio is a property company that which creates HMO's in Medway, Kent. The diverse range of industries I find myself in has allowed me to create wealth that enables me to be my own boss so I can pursue my dreams. As a former boxer and avid sportsman, I find there are similarities between the running of businesses and competing. In today's episode of the Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast, Rob interviews professional journalist, columnist, author and editor of GQ magazine, Dylan Jones OBE. Dylan has served as the editor of the global magazine since 1991 and has won the British Society of Magazine Editors “Editor of the Year” award a record ten times. Rob and Dylan discuss how GQ has had to evolve, innovate and change, to sustain its status as a premium men's fashion and lifestyle magazine. They discuss the value of a brand, changing delivery channels, the current climate and how the whole industry has been disrupted by technological changes. KEY TAKEAWAYS How would you describe what you do and who you are? I'm a professional journalist. I've also done a series of books and I'm quite active with the British fashion council. The great thing about the magazine, however, is that it allows us to split off into politics or literature quite easily, it's very engrossing. The remit of GQ is quite broad and it allows us to fold in various different disciplines. My role at GQ is principally editing, steering the magazine in the right direction both physically and commercially. Is the role of vision and direction of GQ a role that you enjoy? Absolutely and it changes over the years because we're not just producing a monthly magazine. In this climate, we're producing a magazine of a standard you don't often see anymore. These days you have to have everything and it's a bit like being back in the newspaper. You're trying to drive the news agenda whilst also report on what's going on in the world. We have a much smaller team than any other national newspaper but we use various pillars to get everything done. What is the current climate and how has your industry changed? The climate has changed primarily because of technology because distribution channels have changed enormously and audience consumer habits have changed. When we started people didn't have mobile phones, now people consume content in different ways. That's why we have a print magazine, a digital magazine, social feeds etc. What does good journalism look like to you? Journalism that is well commissions, well researched, well written, well edited and well displayed. There is a vehicle for quality journalism because there is a demand for expert and quality material to be produced. Today, everything is quick and everything is disposable. The world is full of fake news and content is endlessly regurgitated, so much so there is no trust anymore. Now, we start to see a resurgence in the appreciation of excellence. What does Disruptive mean to you? It's a very emotive word and it powerful and people are looking for it. I think people are looking for it in every walk of life, every discipline and every profession. It's probably more important now to be a disruptor now than it ever has before because you can attach real commercial value to it. BEST MOMENTS “We're very confident in our abilities to talk to a certain demographic. If you understand your product and you understand your audience then it's all about delivery.” "You have to know your audience and know your brand" "We seem to have had a revival with social media. We used to think that social media would reduce our attention spans but actually in the podcast and magazine world's it's the opposite. Some of the best pieces are two/ three-hour long conversation pieces" “In this world where you can share anything, there's a premium on quality.” “As a journalist, you are always looking for things that you don't know. Because you want the readers not to know them. It's a constant journey of discovery.” “Podcasts are incredible, it's on-demand radio and it's smart people talking.” “You can be a writer or you can be an editor, but you can't be both. I don't think that's true.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Rob Moore - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLtKal0qTf3klDUr7JS_L9Q Money Book - Rob Moore Dylan Jones - Books ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor and property educator.
