There are a handful of common story threads that run through classic country songs. I'm not talking about trucks, beer the ‘merica that seems to have overwhelmed modern so-called country with autotune and synth pop. The heartbreak of cheating situations that were among the most common storylines in the Golden Age of country at a time when family unity was of paramount importance. It was country music's frank portrayal of infidelity that offered a counterpoint which was both relatable and controversial. Cheating songs became a central theme, reflecting the complexities and emotional intensity of love, betrayal, and heartbreak. Dave will share as many as will fit in two hours in this week's episode with early tearjerkers from Kitty Wells, The Louvin Brothers, Billy Walker, Bonnie Owens and George Jones. There will also be the very best of the classics from Charley Pride, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn to take us into the 70s and beyond. . .

The GlenAllachie has a rich history as a brand despite it being one of the newer distilleries in Scotland.  Just a few years ago, though, it was making a lot of whisky - around 4M LPA - but not much of it was seen outside the blends into which it disappeared. Billy Walker, fresh off the sale of BenRiach, Glendronach, and Glenglassaugh distilleries, had a vision: to create a new version of Scotch single malt that focused not just on making good spirit, but more importantly on making it with the best wood available.  Half a decade later, The GlenAllachie is producing some incredible and fascinating releases including GlenAllachie spirit aged in Mizunara casks, rye casks, and multiple casks for a single release. They've also reduced that 4M LPA to a fraction of their capacity, making only 800,000 LPA (20%) of their previous volume.  Quality over quantity - can't argue against that, right?  ______________________________________________________ Before we jump into the interview just a few quick notes: The first WRP barrel pick is coming! After being a shareholder of The BenRiach Distillery, The GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh one might think all life goals have been reached. Not so Billy Walker. A few years back, he and his partners decided to sell the three distilleries but for Billy it had always been clear that this would not be the end of his journey in the whisky industry. Serendipity made it possible for him to eventually purchase The GlenAllachie in 2017. His vision was to create great whisky while not being dependent on others' decisions. In this episode, Billy Walker talks about buying a running distillery, changing its character and building a new reputation in the market for an up until then rather unknown brand. Moreover, we talk about Billy's background in the whisky industry, the development of The GlenAllachie since 2017 and which other distilleries he would like to own. Yep, still not all life goals achieved as it seems. Listen in and let us take you to the Scottish Speyside to enjoy our talk with whisky legend Billy Walker.

(Spoiler alert: yeah... yeah, it's bad.) For Song of the Week, the winning patron-poll songs both happen to be from the same 1970 session and same album, Elvis Country, with Gurdip tackling the underrated "I Really Don't Want to Know," originally by Eddy Arnold. Meanwhile, Justin reflects on how it's "Funny How Time Slips Away," while touching on various iterations including songwriter Willie Nelson, Al Green, and original by Billy Walker.  If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. We begin a four-part series tonight exploring Dylan's use of horns on record and in concert. This first episode covers 1966 to 1976. This series delves into the producers, arrangers, and musicians with whom Dylan worked when adding horns to his song arrangements. This episode explains the difference between brass horns, reed wind instruments, and edgeblown wind instruments, considers why Dylan's early work may have had more instances of string parts overdubbed to his songs instead of horn arrangements, and it looks at songs recorded for albums with horn arrangements that were not, ultimately, used for the album in question. In "20 Pounds of Headlines" we round up news from the world of Bob Dylan, which includes mourning the passing of Walter Yetnikoff and celebrates last-one-standing Tony Bennett, who is releasing a new album and just performed his final concert at the age of 95. In "Who Did It Better?" we ask you which version of "Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)" you think is better: the 1966 BLONDE ON BLONDE mono mix or the 2007 Remix done by Mark Ronson to mark the release of the 2007 album DYLAN? Starting behind the locked gates of an abandoned distillery, Jim McEwan and Mark Reynier share their personal experiences of the risk-taking and wild experimentation they used to turn Bruichladdich into what it is today. The film takes you on the journeys of other early visionaries like Gordon & MacPhail, Billy Walker, Dr. Rachel Barrie and David Stewart, whose mixture of talent, chemistry, hard work, grit, and a little sprinkle of magic paved the way for the next generation of innovators like Adam Hannett, Kelsey McKechnie, Liam Hughes, Iain Croucher, and Eddie Brook. https://wateroflifefilm.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/irishwhiskeyreview/message

Now, the GlenAllachie team is turning to two legacy brands that were part of the distillery deal, McNair's and White Heather, with plans to make them relevant once again. We'll talk with Billy Walker on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth.  In the news, whisky industry leaders are hoping the change in U.S. administrations will lead to a removal of tariffs on whiskies and other spirits, along with economic help targeting the nation's hard-hit bars and restaurants. In this week's episode we're featuring an excellent introduction to the music of Gary Stewart: "Greatest Hits" (1981). Born the son of a mining man in Kentucky but calling Fort Pierce, Florida home from the age of 12, Gary Stewart was playing music around the area as a teenager. After catching part of his performance locally, Mel Tillis (also from the area) suggested Stewart go to Nashville to work on his songwriting craft and work his way up from there. And he did. Starting in the mid 60s several back and forth trips to Music City, many with buddy and songwriting partner Bill Eldridge, resulted in some attention and gradually their songs started finding the right ears. Hit cuts were recorded by Nat Stuckey and Billy Walker (amongst others) and after brief recording stints themselves and plenty of discouragement, Gary Stewart eventually got signed to RCA. A re-release of "Drinkin' Thing" scored his first Top 10 and the ball was rolling. Somewhat pigeonholed during his time at RCA, it was songs of drinking, divorce and cheating which made up the majority of Gary Stewart's hit list. Chart success notwithstanding however, it was his emotive vibrato and unique mix of country and southern rock which remains a favourite with fans of country music delivered with feeling.

Some of you may remember him as “Bill” or “Billy”. We remember him for so many different reasons that we just had to reach out and hear his story from the man himself. Henry Walker is on the show today and you probably just got chills reading this if you are familiar with his High School, AAU or College days. Don’t get it twisted though, he had success at all levels and panned out a great career in the NBA and overseas. Don’t worry, we learn all about that too. Walker took High School basketball by storm with his teammate OJ Mayo. The Top 10 recruit went on to win back-to-back State Titles in the state of Ohio and damn near broke the internet on multiple occasions with his electrifying dunks. Walker went on to play at Kansas State where he, Jacob Pullen, and Michael Beasley made a lot of noise. Henry was selected 47th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. Walker played 5 seasons in the NBA and carved out a great career overseas, even after multiple knee injuries. The resilience of Walker is something everyone needs to hear about. His ability to keep moving forward and make the adjustments to his game to keep competing, regardless of the obstacles he faced is something that we truly admire. But what may impress us most is all that he is doing for his community and the youth. Whether you remember him as Bill, Billy, Henry, or even just a great basketball player, we will always just remember him as a great person and we can’t thank him enough for sharing his story and his knowledge of the game.Thank you Henry!

Tonight's special guest host is Barbara Ochoa from San Francisco, a returning NAASCA family member who has been with us several times. That's because Barbara (aka Petra Luna) has a special mission, one which we share with her here at NAASCA. Each year for the past three years, Barbara has produced a series of events celebrating what's become known as Male Abuse Awareness Week (MAAW -- the first week of December). Each year, recognizing that young males have an especially tough time even talking about being abused as kids, Barbara reaches out to this frequently undeserved group with videos, music events, dance and special guest appearances (Help4Guys.org). She encourages victims of abuse to seek help, justice and recovery through her music and nonprofit organization, the P.Luna Foundation. Barbara will be joined tonight by former police officer, Billy Walker, an abuse survivor who serves as a Board Member at Barbara's P. Luna Foundation. He has a BA in Political Science, a Masters Degree in Education and has worked as a police dispatcher, police officer, jailor, deputy sheriff, deputy coroner, prison counselor and parole officer. He's even worked security at the Olympics. "I served in law enforcement for 20 years," says Billy says. "Through my work in law enforcement I have seen the results of heinous acts perpetuated by adults upon children. I joined the P. Luna Foundation in 2005 because I wanted to help in making the world a better and safer place for children." Among other topics we'll be asking him for any safety tips he might have for males to stay safe and avoid predators. We'll also find out what Billy recommends what one should to do about it if one does become a victim.

Many of the microdistillers producing whisky got their inspiration from the craft brewing boom of the last 15 years, and more craft brewers are being inspired to use whisky barrels to age their beers.
