After coaching over three thousand people, Bobbi Kahler has learned several principles that leaders can follow to be more successful. She is a writer, podcaster, entrepreneur, and coach. She has a Masters in Organizational Development and Change. She dives into six important principles to have success as a leader:       1. First and foremost, we need to know ourselves. This includes knowing your authentic self, understanding your own values, discerning how you make choices, and being aware of how you show up to others.        2. A leader needs to help others to know themselves, others on the team, and you as their leader.        3. Leaders need to be visionaries. Bobbi helps us explore how one can be a visionary that leads others to respond in positive ways.        4. Leaders need to live for the long haul, not the short haul. This involves; knowing the vision and staying connected to it, practicing self-care, having margins and strong boundaries, and practicing disciplines that bring you personal peace.         5. The effective leader understands her purpose in all she is doing.        6. Episode page In this captivating episode, #227 of the 'My Favorite Mistake' podcast, host Mark Graban is joined by the transformational speaker and coach, Bobbi Kahler. From a flourishing career in personal development spanning over two decades to catalyzing growth in more than 3000 individuals, Bobbi stands as a beacon of self-improvement and human thriving. Through her popular podcast, The Unyielded Show: Thriving No Matter What, Bobbi explores the core elements that breed a winner's mindset and a rewarding life. In this insightful conversation, she reveals the profundity of her learnings gathered from a mishap during the initial phase of her speaking career. She is the author of Travels of the Heart: Developing Your Inner Leader, and she was a contributing author to the Amazon and NY Times best-selling book, Masters of Success. Delving deeper into the episode, we unfold a valuable lesson, a testament to the idea that our ways of confronting errors can greatly shape our path to success. On a day of staff training at a credit union, Bobbi was given the opportunity to conduct two 90-minute sessions. The two experiences stood in stark contrast. The first was well received with audience engagement validating Bobbi's skills as a facilitator. However, it was the second one, with less participation and ending early, that became a tipping point in redefining Bobbi's approach to public speaking. Why did she label this as her mistake instead of blaming the audience or the circumstances? And how did she adjust when facing similar situations in the future? Questions and Topics: Didn't have a backup plan? Did you run into the same situation again? What are some of the common roadblocks that keep people from moving forward – how do we get unstuck? How to get past the fear of mistakes? PQ – “Positive Intelligence” What's the worst that could happen? An exaggerated sense of that? Why do we need to “help shine a light on the value of mistakes?” And how can we do that? Why do you believe that there is always a way forward? In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother's Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Bobbi Kahler. An entrepreneur for more than 20 years, Bobbi has coached upwards of 3,000 people and has delivered presentations for tens of thousands of people.  She helps people to see new possibilities for themselves and for their lives.  Her undergrad degree was in human performance improvement and her graduate degree was based on the science of human flourishing. She has appeared in articles for Forbes, The Today Show, Yahoo News, Thrive Global, Authority Magazine and Influencive.  She is the author of Travels of the Heart: Developing Your Inner Leader, she was a contributing author to the Amazon and NY Times best-selling book, Masters of Success, and she is the host of her podcast: UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What. In her own words, Bobbi says: “On a cold New Year's Eve when I was 23 years old, my life was at a dead end. I worked 2 jobs and ate tuna and macaroni salad for dinner almost every night. I had had to fight with my mom to stay in high school.  College was a distant dream – but only if I could find a way to pay for it. That night, after working my two jobs, I went home to my lonely, dark apartment and thought: “How did my life turn out this way?” The answer that came back to me was that my life was simply a reflection of the choices that I had made so far. Truthfully, that wasn't the answer I wanted.  I'm not proud of it, but my 23-year-old self wanted something or someone to blame.  In that moment, I knew that no one was coming to rescue me. No one was going to come and knock on my door and save me from my default future.  That was a little scary. But, then I realized how powerfully hopeful that was because if it were true that my life was a reflection of the choices that I'd made so far then that meant that if I learned to make better choices then I could change my results – and my future. I didn't need anyone to rescue me. That was empowering.  That experience led me to devote myself to studying self-leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) and ultimately to Bachelor's Degree in Human Performance Improvement and a graduate degree based on the science of positive psychology (human flourishing). It also led me to my 3 fundamental truths:   The future can be changed. It is not set in stone. YOU – and only you – can change your future. You don't have to wait. Anything that you need to learn, you can learn along the way. I am passionate about helping people learn how to lead their own life – not just live the default life.  I want people to not tolerate their life, but to truly love it.” To find out more about Bobbi, check out her website at www.bobbikahler.com.

OVERCOMING THE EGO talk series www.bfuclub.com/talk-series At the age of 18 her parents wanted her out of the house to figure life out for herself, at the age of 23 is where she felt like a failure because she felt she couldn't figure it out, working two jobs. Bobbi takes us back to her 23yr old self,  her parents weren't much of the higher education type, so college wasn't on the table. What Bobbi knew was how to work hard, but she was barely keep her head above water and felt like she was sinking, eating macaroni and tuna casserole pretty much every day. One new year's eve, Bobbi came home from work turned on her t.v so she wouldn't feel lonely, had a conversation with herself as she was reflecting and the insights all started coming to her.  "What came back to me was that your life is a reflection of the choices that you've made so far. And as I sat there with that, I thought that's remarkably helpful because if that's true that my life is simply a reflection of the choices that I've made so far, what that means is that if I learn how to make better choices, I can get a better outcome.  Within 18 months Bobbi's life changed making more than double than what she had been, but it was a series of just taking chances on herself and exposing  herself to new things. Having a speech impediment at the age of 6, her mother taught her a lesson that stayed with her forever. Feeling like a failure and knowing that she had the power to change her life around, Bobbi started to ask those that she thought that had it together she would ask them questions, as well as read countless books looking for the secret sauce. We speak about her Miss Missouri pageant, and how her debate coach taught her some great lessons after each debate. As well as how people showed up in her life that helped her through her life process. Bobbi fell sick in burnout and doctors questioned her 3% chance of survival.  With her positive attitude Bobbi said well if 3% survived they had the answers she was seeking to get better.   Ten years in her health crisis Bobbi just wanted to get back into her running and physical fitness routine.  She learned to take life in stride and take small steps to her recovery.  Today Bobbi is healthier than she ever was and has conquered some of the most scariest things so she thought. We speak about so many incredible things on this podcast that will give you inspiration never to give up on yourself. In today's episode, our guest is Bobbi Kahler, personal empowerment for 20 plus years to transfer this knowledge and information and heart to the next generation to help their lives the better. Today we will be talking about the different mentality of coaches on how you should run your business. Let's dive into the episode!  [6:30] Why should we listen to you? I think it's because of a combination of three things. Number one, I get results. The second thing is, I've lived it, you know like you said a minute ago, you know, you learn something, you want to share it with others. I've lived with this in my life. And then the third thing is that this is what I've studied.  [7:43] What has life taught you?  I think it comes down to the future to create; the future can be changed, whatever our story is, to a certain point. That's just the story to that point. And then the second thing would be, you can change your story.  [12:24] How to get started.   It begins with believing a new possibility exists, we have to have that hope, and hope is not passive for me. Hope comes from taking action.    [12:51] it's all about how we get started, how we find a straightforward action that I think will lead me in the direction that I want to go, and how I take that action.  [14:19] Approaching someone's perspective in the past.   Part of it is helping people test it. Sometimes that voice, can come from many different places; part of that is testing whose voice am I listening to?  [16:09] Most challenging part on your journey.  I think, personally and professionally, it recognizes a plateau when I hit it. That's why I constantly challenge myself to acknowledge the plateaus as they're happening. Because once I realize it, I can make it through. It recognizes it for me.  [19:25] Coaching People  When I'm coaching people, they're so hard on themselves, to the point where you even recognize how good you are, what you're good at, what your strengths are, and I think that's the other part of it. Sometimes we need that person to say, wait a minute, stop being quite so hard on yourself because you've got all this other stuff over here that's going on, and it's working. Well, let's acknowledge it so you can build on it.  [22:37] What gets under your skin? People can see all the action, just not taking action, but they don't take the steps. It doesn't matter. If you fail, it doesn't matter if you make a mistake. The big thing is trying something because you will learn from it. I'm a massive believer in that. If you take action, you're going to learn from it, and you will move forward.  [23:21] Future of Coaching  I don't see it dropping off in popularity. It'll be something that more people will turn to. it's going to be something where the world funding is at a point of realizing that like, it's a necessity.  [28:06] What promise did God make to the world when He created you? That I would inspire people to seek their possibilities and not their limitations because what we seek, we tend to find, and I want people to see their possibilities. Key Quotes [9:28-9:36] “I think it comes down to the future is ours to create, you know, the future can be changed whatever our whatever our story is”  [11:25-11:30] “Our greatest opponent is never the one on the other side of the net. It's the one on our side of the net.” Learn more about Bobbi Kahler on: Website: http://www.bobbikahler.com/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bobbikahler

Everyone has struggles. No one's life is more challenging than anyone else's. Besides, nobody wants and deserves to be on average. Yet, only a few know how to be great. My guest today is someone who works to build a world in which every individual sees themself as the hero of their own story, dares to turn that story into reality, and has the confidence to share it with the world. After being diagnosed with a life-shortening disease, being told that he would have a life expectancy of 30 years and never have biological children, yet by today, he has built an award-winning career, fathered two amazing sons, and accomplished physical feats unimaginable for medical experts. Ryan Shekell, a delusional optimist and podcaster, joins us for today's episode to share how he challenges his predicted life and creates the legacy he wants to leave behind.Ryan's Story – We talk about Ryan's background, how he invalidated each assumption others had about his life, from playing baseball at the collegiate level to running a 50km ultra-marathon with less than 70% lung function.Mindset Matters – Ryan reveals his secret behind his unbelievable tasks, naming it the delusional optimist mindset. As he explains, it is the mindset of believing that he can do anything.Delusional Optimist Mindset – You can do anything you desire. Your belief had full potential to lead you to either success or failure. Ryan emphasizes the importance of having such a mindset in every aspect of our life.Overcome Adversity – If you determine to achieve greatness, you need to leverage your strengths and weakness. Ryan talks about overcoming his adversities by building them to his workouts and forcing him to practice fortitude daily.Inner Circle – Ryan classifies the people in our close network into 3C's as cheerleaders, challengers, and champions and points out the necessity of having champions in life out of the categories mentioned above.Build the Network – In life, we meet different people, and it takes much reflection to realize the right people to have in our network. As Ryan says, we need to go out from our comfort zones and find the people for our network who help us grow and succeed.Start Your Day With Success – Ryan shares how he challenges himself, plans his daily schedule, and, most notably, how he gets the victorious start for the day with his alarm clock.Optimize Your Life – We should define people with something they can fully control. We all are capable of building the legacy we want to leave behind. Although we may not control what happens to us, we can always control our reactions. Be self-conscious. Put focus and effort. You will get the best results.Resources:Connect with Ryan Shekell:Website: everybreathcountspodcast.comInstagram: instagram.com/ryanshekell/LinkedIn:  linkedin.com/in/ryanshekell/Mentioned in the episode:Bobbi Kahler was a guest on the Every Breath Counts podcast:everybreathcountspodcast.com/potential/Atomic Habits:goodreads.com/book/show/40121378-atomic-habits?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=9vh9Neo74J&rank=1

About Bobbi; Most people haven't heard a doctor tell them, “You shoudn't be alive.”  Bobbi has.  And her personal story of re-building her health to become a vibrant athlete is inspiring and offers hope to listeners that anything is possible for them.  It also gives her credibility as she hasn't just studied these concepts, she has lived them – and, in fact, is alive because of them.  Bobbi blends her storytelling ability with her experience in coaching thousands of people and her graduate studies to deliver key insights and practical steps forward. One of Bobbi's signature strengths is in helping people to “Just Start” and to learn their way forward.  This is rooted in her belief that while goal setting and having a vision is important, it is more important to just start.  Nothing happens until you do.  No progress can be made, and no learning can be created until we put ourselves in the game.  Bobbi offers listeners proven ways to get off the bench and move towards their goals and dreams.A critical component of that is to manage the voice inside each of us that tell us to “just wait.”  This is the voice that tells us that we might fail or be rejected or make a mistake or look foolish.  In having coached more than 3000 people in her career, Bobbi understands how to help people silence that voice and move forward. The other critical piece is to learn your way forward.  It is almost impossible to know everything we need to know before we start – and that is not a reason to wait.  It simply means that we need to become students of learning how to learn the skills, behaviors and mindsets that will make us successful.  These are all learnable behaviors and skills; they are not innate things that we are born with or not.  They can be learned and developed the same as any other skill, like learning to ride, learning to ski, or learning to hit a ball.  We may not become great at them overnight, but they can be learned, practiced, and mastered. One thing that Bobbi's journey – and her vast coaching experience -- has taught her is that change, challenge, and uncertainty are a normal part of life.  When we accept that, and we frame it as “what do I need to learn next?” we can and will make progress towards what is important to us.Bobbi's belief -- and her personal story -- is that when we do all these things, we can truly lead our own life and create the life we love to live -- everyday.  She has a deep belief that we can all love our lives all 52 weeks of the year -- not just the two weeks of vacation.  That's what she and her husband set out to do when they left corporate America and while the road hasn't been without it's ups and downs and twists and turns, it's what they've created for themselves.  It is achievable.Three Fundamental Truths To Being Successful:~ The future can be changed. No matter where you are right now, your future can be changed. ~ You can change your future. You can write your own story and be the hero of that story. You have everything inside you that you need. ~You can start now. Don't worry about not having all of the steps, knowledge or skills. That is all learnable. About Bobbi Most people haven't heard a doctor tell them, “You shoudn't be alive.” Bobbi has. Bobbi offers listeners proven ways to get off the bench and move towards their goals and dreams. A critical component of that is to manage the voice inside each of us that tell us to “just wait.” This is the voice that tells us that we might fail or be rejected or make a mistake or look foolish. Bobbi Kahler: An entrepreneur since the age of 34, I have led workshops for thousands of people, and I’ve worked with some of the most recognizable brands on thtpe planet. During that time, I have coached upwards of 3000 people. I’m known as a Personal Change Chef for people because I help them take their raw ingredients and create a recipe that will bring out their best so that they can be their most fulfilled and successful. At the heart of it all, I am a servant of anyone seeking personal growth and transformation. Both my undergrad and graduate degrees were fueled by my passion for the mind and heart of the learner. My passion is deeply rooted in personal transformation and the belief that the only thing that prevents us from achieving greatness, is the belief in ourselves. About Bobbi: Most people haven’t heard a doctor tell them, “You shoudn’t be alive.” Bobbi has. And her personal story of re-building her health to become a vibrant athlete is inspiring and offers hope to listeners that anything is possible for them. It also gives her credibility as she hasn’t just studied these concepts, she has lived them – and, in fact, is alive because of them. Bobbi blends her storytelling ability with her experience in coaching thousands of people and her graduate studies to deliver key insights and practical steps forward. One of Bobbi’s signature strengths is in helping people to “Just Start” and to learn their way forward. This is rooted in her belief that while goal setting and having a vision is important, it is more important to just start. Nothing happens until you do. No progress can be made, and no learning can be created until we put ourselves in the game. Bobbi offers listeners proven ways to get off the bench and move towards their goals and dreams. A critical component of that is to manage the voice inside each of us that tell us to “just wait.” This is the voice that tells us that we might fail or be rejected or make a mistake or look foolish. One thing that Bobbi’s journey – and her vast coaching experience -- has taught her is that change, challenge, and uncertainty are a normal part of life. When we accept that, and we frame it as “what do I need to learn next?” we can and will make progress towards what is important to us. Bobbi's belief -- and her personal story -- is that when we do all these things, we can truly lead our own life and create the life we love to live -- everyday. She has a deep belief that we can all love our lives all 52 weeks of the year -- not just the two weeks of vacation. That's what she and her husband set out to do when they left corporate America and while the road hasn't been without it's ups and downs and twists and turns, it's what they've created for themselves. It is achievable.
