Kevin Milne joined Jack Tame to tell an interesting little story about his son's experience watching his favourite side West Ham playing in London last week. He ended up sitting next to a wheelchair bound West Ham fan in the Wheelchair Access area. The guy's first question to my son Jake was "What's your favourite West Ham chant." Jake replied, "Stand up if you hate Tottenham, stand up." As the words are coming out his mouth, Jake panics, thinking he's been really thoughtless given he's talking to a guy who can't stand up; Turned out it was the other guy's favourite chant too. It's a funny and slightly moving story of British football fans. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Since the release of his heartfelt ballad, Gavins music has been likened to the jazz infused organic instrumentation, behind the warm vocal palette of Grammy award winner Gregory Porter, or perhaps even the fresh spin on yesteryears Rhythm & Blues music, brought to us by the 10x Grammy award winner John Legend. Gavin was also the featured vocalist on dance DJ Riva Starrs single ‘If I Could Only Be Sure' (Dec, 2020) which received rave reviews and airplay from the likes of Annie Mac @ BBC Radio 1.Gavin Holligan could easily be summed up as a 'modern day - classic artist', delivering much of the craftsmanship you would expect to hear from iconic heroes of old. Football history in this week's podcast brought to you by the British Society of Sport History in association with the Institute of Historical Research. Geoff talks to Professor Matt Taylor of De Montfort University about the paper he presented at the 2019 BSSH conference in Liverpool regarding sport in Britain during the Second World War. In particular we discuss the issue of Sunday sport - an issue that was far more controversial in the mid-twentieth century than it is nowadays. Matt also tells me about his role at the Internationational Centre for Sports History and Culture at DMU, as well as discussing his role as a PhD supervisor, and his unusual progress from undergrad to PhD student. Professor Matt Taylor is one of the UK's leading sports historians with several significant publications on the history of football in particular. His landmark work, 'The Association Game: A History of British Football' came out in 2008. This was followed up by a variety of articles and books, including 'The People's Game', a history of football during WW2. His forthcoming book on sport during the Second World War will be published by Routledge in 2021.

Gary Newbon MBE and former football writer Jem Maidment sat down to talk all things Stuart McCall, including his thoughts on Scottish football, where his love for Bradford City came from, and just how close the Scotland international came to playing for England. Spoiler alert - it was far closer than you'd think...

We have two Saints legends gracing the pod this week. Matthew Le Tissier and Franny Benali need no introduction to anyone of a Southampton opinion, or any fan of Soccer Saturday for that matter! The pair joined Gary Newbon MBE to chat about this season's goings-on at St Mary's, Danny Ings' red-hot goal streak, and just what it would have taken for Le Tiss to have been prized away from The Dell by a certain west London club... Don't forget to subscribe to the pod for more great stories!
Play up, Pompey! We've got two men of a blue persuasion on the pod this week - Portsmouth CEO Mark Catlin and BT Sport commentator Ian Darke joined Gary Newbon MBE to chat about the Fratton Park club, Ian's return to the mic in Europe, and how important doing your homework is. Episode 108 ‘TRAILER PARK’ ‘Project Power’ - With our First Trailer off the Park this week we have a brand new Big Budget Netflix extravaganza in ‘Project Power’! If there was a magic pill you could take that gave you 5 minutes of unlimited power, would you take it? Pfffft, of course, you would! Well, that’s what Jaime Foxx and Mitchell’s dream man, Joseph Gordon-Levitt are you against in ‘Project Power’. JGL plays a tough as nails cop and Foxx a Dad out for revenge as this pill (which allows you to unlock your unique superpower for 5 minutes) is unleashed on their streets in what seems to be a ‘trial’ or test of sorts, by some shady and very wealthy drug lords. The pill seems to be taking the streets by storm but no one mentions the other potential major effect of this pill: a serious case of dead-ness. Creeping onto Netflix like a very naked invisible man, August 14th. ‘Hard Kill’ - Sueeeeeeeeeeee! Oh sweet baby Jesus we have ourselves EXACTLY what Trailer Park was made for with the trailer for ‘Hard Kill’! Have you been thinking to yourself ‘gosh darn, there really just isn’t enough ‘straight to on-demand’ action films nowadays!’ You have? Well great! But have you also been clamoring for said film to star the legend of the on-demand films Bruce Willis?! You have? Well fuck, clean yourself up because you’re excited! It’s time for Hard Kill! Willis stars as a rich guy who has important Tech or something and he must recruit the handsome lawnmower guy from desperate housewives to lead a team of mercenaries to protect his tech and save his kidnapped daughter from The Pardoner. An evil ex-soldier who… wants the tech? Or money? HES BAD, is what I’m saying. HOORAH! Also starring a former ‘wrestler’ in Natalie Eva Marie. Snapping onto On-Demand like a bad guys shin bone being stood on, August 28th! ‘Ted Lasso’ - Now I know we normally don’t review ‘TV Series’ trailers here in our Trailer Park but how could I personally pass up a brand new comedy series, about sports AND starring the king of ‘punching above his weight’ Jason Sudeikis?! Here Sudeikis is playing the titular character ‘Ted Lasso’, a born and bred American who happens to be a coach of American Football. But when he takes a job over in Muffa Englund to coach ‘British Football’ (you know… soccer), the sports world is up in arms. Now he must face the challenges of being in charge of a group of Prima Donna male football stars, adjusting to a new country AND most importantly, learning how to fucking coach a sport he has ZERO experience in. Slurping onto Apple Plus like an American drinking hot brown water, August 14th. ‘Words on Bathroom Walls’ - Well wasn’t this an unexpected treat! It looks as if Trailer Park is trying to push Mitchell’s limits this week and test whether or not they can make him cry! Here we have an ambitious Trailer called ‘Words on Bathroom Walls’. A PG-13 story about a young high school couple going through teenage problems and facing cute high school issues together. The only difference is the main character Adam suffers from intensely severe Schizophrenia. And unlike a lot of schizophrenia cases, he doesn’t just hear voices, he sees every people talk to him and sees all of his imaginings. Struggling to cope with his condition, medication and finding his way, a girl tries to get close to him but he pushes her away repeatedly. With a talented young cast and strong supporting cast including Walton Goggins, Molly Parker, and Andy Garcia, this teenage drama actually has some serious potential. Scorching into theatres like acid poured over a child’s arm, 31st of July! ‘Tesla’ - Here we find a trailer as odd as it is riveting. ‘Tesla’ is the story of Nikola Tesla, the mysterious inventor, and engineer of the late 19th century. Ethan Hawke plays the lead role in this film first screened at Sundance earlier this year. I say this trailer is odd because I’m not entirely aware of how they’re going to tell this story, given there is a reference to Google, what looks to be a smartphone being scrolled on by Thomas Edison and Tesla himself picking up and using a very modern microphone. Could be a unique sleeper hit or could be a train wreck. Colouring me intrigued would be an understatement. Zapping its way into a limited theatrical release like a bolt of man-made lightning into the sky, 21st of August. ‘The 2nd’ - Do you remember Ryan Phillippe? You know, the guy from ‘I know what you did last summer’? No? He was the hottie in ‘Cruel Intentions’? No?? What about ‘Flags of our Fathers’?? Really? Still no? You must know him from ‘Crash’! No?! Well, I don’t remember him either. But anyway, he leads the way in this non-stop thrill ride of a direct to on-demand action film set inside a high school! When he goes to pick up his random ass country looking son from a prestigious school, it turns out a senator's daughter's life is in danger when a group of troublemakers comes to abduct her! But they didn’t expect to run into the lethal weapon that is Ryan Phillippe! Oh, that spells trouble for them! Smacking its way onto on-demand like a fist from hell, December! ‘YASSS OR PASSS - July 23rd - (Glendale, Kotara & Tuggerah) The Burnt Orange Heresy - Babyteeth - The Vigil (Actual premiere week!) - OLD CLASSICS - Love Actually, Moulin Rouge, Elf, The Matrix Trilogy. @2c3pod Aussie Pop Culture Podcast ~ 2 Episodes every Wednesday and Friday + YOUTUBE bonus content. Last week, the committee interviewed Rick Parry, the chairman of the English Football League to talk to him about the impact of COVID-19 on the lower tiers of English football. Parry was bullish, attacking the financial structures underpinning the game in Britain. Having eviscerated the whole system, he took more careful aim. If you wanted a culprit for the swingeing inequalities in English football, Parry seemed to be saying, then you could look no further than parachute payments. But what are parachute payments? And why are they so bad? In this episode, we ask: Are parachute payments holding British football back? Guest: Dr Rob Wilson (@DrRob_Wilson), a Football Finance Expert at Sheffield Hallam University. Legendary football journalist Paddy Barclay and football writer Wayne Barton explore the Premier League era, dedicating time to some of the great teams and players, and aiming a forensic microscope over some of the most fascinating stories of the times. There were more significant changes in British Football. England brought 'football home' with Euro 1996 and many foreign players remained in the country after the abolition of the foreigner rule. Newcastle broke the world transfer record for Alan Shearer but by the end of the season Kevin Keegan would be gone. There were new title challengers in the shape of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. Back in the North East, Middlesbrough had one of the most remarkable and controversial seasons in the division's history (check out Tom Flight's book for more, available from Pitch Publishing!). It was, however, Manchester United who would retain the title, though their talismanic Frenchman would stun the football world once more at the end of the campaign... A story of banquets, diplomacy and football. In 1978, first division side, West Bromwich Albion became the first professional British football club to visit communist China. The visit came as China began to open up to the West after the power struggle which followed the death of Chairman Mao. Alex Last spoke to West Brom legend, Brendon Batson, about his memories of the historic tour. Photo: The teams head out onto the field in Beijing for West Brom's first game of the tour. (BBC)
This week Si sits down with one of Celtic’s most recent cult heroes, the technically gifted winger, Paddy McCourt. Great laughs in this one as Paddy recounts his unorthodox professional career which led his pathway to the club he always supported as a boy in Glasgow. From injuries derailing his start in British Football with Rochdale to making the most of the social life back Derry and eventually the dream come true of ending up at Celtic Park. Hilarious stories from inside the Celtic dressing room, team nights out and of course how he managed to develop as an important first team player after getting to grips with a new level of professional training! You’ll enjoy this one!
