On Tuesday, January 11, 1972, KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER terrified and delighted audiences on ABC. The TV movie — written by horror legend Richard Matheson (I Am Legend) and based on an unpublished novel by Jeff Rice — was the highest-rated TV movie in U.S. history. It subsequently spawned both a second TV movie, THE NIGHT STRANGLER, and a cult TV series that ran for just one season, but inspired a generation of storytellers, notably including X-Files creator Chris Carter. In 2022, Moonstone Books will celebrate this pop culture milestone with a Kickstarter campaign for KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRAPHIC NOVEL, edited by James Aquilone (Classic Monsters Unleashed). This all-new, 100+ page, full-color graphic novel will feature 10 startling stories chronicling the life of monster-hunting reporter Carl Kolchak. The stories are written by such master storytellers as Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia), Kim Newman (Anno Dracula), Peter David (The Incredible Hulk), and Jonathan Maberry (V-Wars) and illustrated by such amazing artists as Colton Worley (The Shadow), Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (Mr. Higgins Comes Home), J.K. Woodward (Star Trek), and Paul McCaffrey (Anno Dracula). THE NIGHT STALKER 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRAPHIC NOVEL features a cover by Colton Worley, as well a cover by Jerry Ordway (The Power of Shazam!). KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRAPHIC NOVEL also includes an introduction by Richard Christian Matheson, the bestselling horror author/screenwriter/producer and son of THE NIGHT STRANGLER and THE NIGHT STRANGLER writer Richard Matheson, an essay on the 50th anniversary by Mark Dawidziak, the author of The Nightstalker Companion, and a retrospective of Moonstone Book's Kolchak publication history by publisher Joe Gentile. The KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER 50TH ANNIVERSARY GRAPHIC NOVEL ANTHOLOGY will be available in limited-edition softcover and hardcover editions, both with variant covers. Why 'Forgiving Your Enemies' Makes Weird Sense' - Part 1Full Service feat Freddy Krueger & Jason VoorheesSeason Three - Episode ThreeWelcome to Creepy Cove Community Church! If this is your first time, we forgive you for your heinous neglect...that's because forgiving your enemies actually makes some sense (even though it can also feel like naive insanity!) In this service we explore this topic with zest! Our Church Administrator Ruper Donk opens proceedings with a surprising (and shocking) new seating plan. Then, he shares some exciting news about Mrs. Kitner's filthy sink hole that she has filled with water to enable locals to swim. Mrs Kitner lost her son Alex in an INCREDIBLY BLOODY demon shark attack last year. So she's providing alternative swimming opps for those too frightened of a beach dip. Then it's over to an incredibly historic moment. For tonight, notorious, local mortality botherers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger have agreed to lay down their machete and knife glove - for they are coming together in a special 'Forgiveness & Reconciliation' Ceremony. It's a new day, and we are hopeful that it will all go as planned and the two rivals will be bowling together with laughter, soon. Then, after a Bible reading from little, haunted Annabelle it's over to our minister Peter Laws who will talk to us about the topic: 'Why Forgiving Your Enemies Makes Sense'. To be honest, it doesn't make a lot of sense, so we will be intrigued to see where he goes with this particular homilie. After a moment of eerie prayer and meditation (based on the work of a writer called Corrie Ten Boom*), we hand over to a talented singer songwriter called Nathaniel Orr with his moving song: 'Have It Your Way'. “Nate is a singer-songwriter based in South Wales and is currently learning how best to serve career artists in their work. He trusts that God will teach and guide him to better understand the wounds in the art world and play a small part in helping to bring God's healing.”Tonight's topic can be a challenging one for many of us, and for those of us who have been hurt deeply, the idea of loving our enemies can understandably feel foolish or even cruel. We hope that the service does not pressure you in any sort of naive way, but rather we hope it might give some pointers for how your life might be improved. And if it's not for you, ignore it at your leisure!Thank you for attending our windswept church on the peak!*Note: Corrie Ten Boom did not write the hit 90s song Boom, Boom, Shake, Shake the Room. The actual scribes of that pop hit were none other than DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/creepycove)

via GIPHY How many of you remember the movie of the week? Back before streaming or even cable, the network channels had their own special made for TV movies. During the 70s, it seemed like an awful lot of these were horror or monster focused. They varied in quality, but there were a number of really exciting and memorable ones, and that's what we're talking about in this episode! We have already covered two of the most famous - The Night Stalker and the Night Strangler, featuring our beloved Carl Kolchak - in episode 22 (check it out here, Night Stalker fans). But we'll look at some awesome...and maybe not so awesome!....made for TV productions.Chief Engineer Bob uncovers a hidden Rankin-Bass and Tsubarya Japanese film connection, with a trio of films, The Last Dinosaur, The Bermuda Depths, and The Ivory Ape. Yep, we said Rankin-Bass, the company that gave you Rudolph! It's a fascinating story! Then Karen tells us about Gene Roddenberry's post-Star Trek shift to a dystopian future, first with a movie called Genesis II, then a redo of this film called Planet Earth, and finally yet another version called Strange New World! Certainly not his best work, but interesting to behold. But on the plus side, we have all time favorites, like Gargoyles, a 1972 film that caused some of us to have nightmares. This film is best remembered for the fantastic make-up on the gargoyles, which was some of the great Stan Winston's earliest work. It certainly scared your Planet 8 hosts as youngsters!via GIPHYWe all were absolutely petrified by the two-part presentation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot, with David Soul. It scared us to death as kids and really holds up today. And it even has a Star Trek connection! But our piece de resistance, the film that really gets to everyone who has ever seen it, is Trilogy of Terror (1975), but really we're just talking about one segment, "Amelia," featuring Karen Black and a very frightening Zuni fetish doll. You may never look at your collectible figures the same way again. Speaking of collectible figures...Bob handles our Sensor Sweep for this episode. There are a couple of amazing robot toys available only at Walmart right now - walking, talking Iron Giant and Robby the Robot 12" figures for just $19.95! These are made by a company called Goldlok, and Bob's very impressed with the quality. But they are flying off the shelves! So hurry out and get yourself one. Bob also recommends the Funko Pops Speed Racer "Nightmare Speed" figure. And before we go...we want to thank you listeners again for nominating Planet 8 for "Best Multimedia Site"  for the Rondo Awards. Also, Bob's other website, SciFi Japan, is nominated for "Best Website." We'd really appreciate it if you could vote for us before the March 29th deadline. You can find the ballot here. All you have to do is send an email to Taraco@aol.com.  We're so surprised and grateful to have been nominated. We hope that means we're doing something right! And if you're in the San Francisco  Bay Area, Bay Area Film Events will be hosting an anime weekend -Animezing! -  at the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco on March 14th and 15th. That show was Kolchak: The NIght Stalker (1974-75) Running for one season, Carl Kolchak was a reporter for Chicago's Independent News Service, and a magnet for situations involving the supernatural. Kolchak turned his investigative skills to vampires, werewolves, zombies and all manner of legendary creatures, but in the end he always failed to convince his skeptical editor that the stories weren't products of Kolchak's own overworked imagination.

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 54th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "The Palindrome Parallax Paradox Podcast," I feature the series finale of short-lived ABC Family comic book-inspired series "The Middleman" for my Friday Night Feature, "The Palindrome Reversal Palindrome" and discuss my interest in comic books and graphic novel-inspired media. In Cross Connections, I trace "Studio Six Feet Under" connections from "The Middleman," as well as connections from the third season of "Eureka" and the 1940 production of "Gaslight" to the 1948 production of "The Red Shoes." In Old Business, I pull up the closing scenes of the pilot episode of "Raising the Bar" I featured in Episode 53: We Are As Gods, a few moves I called and a few I'd completely forgotten. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I talked about a first season episode of "Prison Break," a fourth season episode of "Nip/Tuck" and a first season episode of "30 Rock" that all turned up recently. In Crowdsourcing, research continues but breakthroughs thus far prove elusive on Exhibit E, a piece of sketch comedy, some screen caps posted here. Any tips, hints or leads are greatly appreciated. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, some discussion on "Pearson" and "Suits" as well as "Preacher." Also, looking at a few eyecatching commercials, an Audi commercial makes me feel pretty good about what I've heard about the new 007. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I talk about the FX production of Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam" (1998), and I take the opportunity to trace connections from the 1971 production of "The Zodiac Killer," including to Nightstalker reporter Carl Kolchak, highlighted in a couple of my favorite episodes of the Forgotten TV podcast you can find here and here. In What I've Been Watching, I comment on episodes of "Straight Up Steve Austin" on USA, which drew my attention to his podcast, David Spade's "Lights Out" on Comedy Central and "Supermarket Stakeout" on the Food Network. Finally, Ralph and I recently took in the FMCT's amazing production of Michael Frayn's "Noises Off!" In Upcoming Shows, looking forward to finally seeing the ninth season of "American Horror Story: 1984," a little bit of FXX weirdness in the series premiere of "Cake," and season premieres of "Superstore" and "The Good Place." Also, BBC America is observing the 50th anniversary of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" by airing first-season episodes Sept. 29. And shoutouts to Geek Radio Daily and Forgotten TV podcasts. Enjoy!
