In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. 1. TUGBOAT EDITION - LOVE DANCING2. She is known for her versatile style, which incorporates a wide variety of genres including hip hop, house, jazz, soul, R&B, disco classics, and rare groove. DJ Colette on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 8/10/22 About DJ Colette - DJ, producer, vocalist – Colette has grown from an integral part of the Chicago underground into a breakout musical triple-threat releasing her most accomplished and fully realized artistic statement to date. Combining the tunefulness of classic pop songs with the thump of classic house of her hometown, the album ventures into new sonic territory for Colette, from intimate bedroom beats to stadium-shaking dance anthems. When the Music's Loud is the sound of an artist at the peak of her powers. Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. A founding member of the pioneering DJ collective Superjane—along with DJ Heather, Lady D, and Dayhota—Colette has been an integral part of the Midwest underground since the birth of the 90s. Crafting events in Chicago—ones that would see most of Chicago's second generation of house music artists and DJs graduate to global scales—her Material events at the storied club Shelter in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood were seminal in the development of the house sound of Chicago's North Side, from the early 1990s on. Colette's groundbreaking combination of incorporating her live vocals over into DJ sets became her signature and a definitive technique that's won her fans from six continents. As a natural extension of her formative musical academia at Lane Tech College Prep, she began making recordings, with her first release appearing on 1995's “Moments of Epiphany” produced by Mazi & DJ Motion for Shroom Records. With an ever-increasing velocity of singles released for independent mainstays such as Icon Recordings, Moody Recordings, Nordic Trax, Brique Rouge, including Derrick Carter's seminal Classic Music Company, eventually led to recording two successful full-length efforts—2005's Hypnotized and 2007's Push—for San Franciso's legendary imprint OM Records. With multiple Dancestar Awards, commercial licenses, TV placements, and a Top #5 Billboard Hit, Colette was ready to make the next move in her career from not only just making records and playing them, but the upward motion to releasing them as well. Colette launched Candy Talk Records in June of 2010 as a platform for more creative control with her own music, their collaborations, and the choice and freedom to work with other record producers of whom she is a fan. Since then, Colette has personally released eight singles and two full-length efforts of her own work—2013's crowd-funded When The Music's Loud (named one of Vice's 99 greatest dance albums of all time) and 2017's Retrospective. Releasing remixed and original works from the likes of Gettoblaster, Sonny Fodera, Late Nite Alumni, Lawnchair Generals, Rubb Sound System, Scrubfish, WhiteNoize, Demarkus Lewis, Chuck Love, Golf Clap, Local Options, Change Request, and more she has created a home for other like-minded creators to have a platform for their work. With an ever-growing roster of musicians, producers, and DJs, 2019—thus far—has seen Candy Talk release East Coast production stalwart Pete Moss' mixes of Colette's “Dreams”, which peaked at #4 on the Traxsource Deep House Top 100. Establishing a remix series highlighting particular producers, Candy Talk has released two volumes in this series thus far with The Rubb Sound System Remixes (CTR015) and The Gettoblaster Remixes (CTR016), and The Demarkus Lewis Remixes (CTR018) featuring his reworks of "Call On Me", “Dreams”, and “We Feel So Hot” slated for the last quarter of 2019. Looking forward, the label anticipates celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020 with a compilation centered around the best of the Candy Talk catalog—including some new tracks—(CTR019) in the first half of the new year. Episode 71 Contemporary Electronic Dance Music After doing my previous podcast about the vintage roots of electronic dance music, I said to myself, why not an episode featuring some examples of EDM as it stands today? Collected here are sixteen examples from fourteen artists of what I call more extreme electronic dance music sounds. These tracks all share a few characteristics, as outlined in the last episode. These characteristics are the use of electronic sound sources, especially types that are easily programmed and operated in a live situation; music that is beat-driven and generally sparse on lyrics; a heavy reliance on repetition patterns and textures while preserving a spot for the artist to display some solo musicianship. The soloing may in fact come from manipulating various controls and buttons, or it may come from a more overtly inserted musical passage played on a keyboard, all to inject a touch of personal expression to the automation. Here is a selection of tracks from around the globe, showing how EDM has become somewhat culturally agnostic. Playlist Chris & Cosey, “Fantastique” from Muzik Fantastique! We're in Dublin for this week's edition of the Local Selection, brought to you by a hugely talented DJ and producer, Dave Jackson aka Air Jackson, as he contributes just over an hour of breaks, electro, garage, house and techno cuts for our latest mix. Air Jackson's first-ever release, 'Orion,' was championed by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. Since then, the Dublin based artist hasn't looked back. He has continued to serve up masterfully melodic sounds that explore the cross-section between house, techno and a multitude of different electronic genres. He has played festivals and clubs across Ireland, Ibiza, France and the Netherlands. He has also established his own Ten One Records as a contemporary leader when it comes to music rich in melody. And all this has happened in just a couple of years. As a DJ and live performer, the former Amsterdam resident knows how to traverse genres, finding exciting, unpredictable links as he goes. From DnB to house, techno to breakbeat, he roams free, but often ties his selections together with an all-important melody. "I'm genre-fluid," he says, "if I like it, I'll make it." The emotions Jackson's melodies bring, whether hopeful and optimistic or tense and dark, are very much what define his signature sound. To date, the influential likes of Groove Armada, Anthony Pappa, DJ Heather, Colin Dale and DJ Caspa have all been playing and supporting the three EPs that he has released on Ten One Records, with plenty more to come. This summer Air Jackson will serve up 'Chemistry,' [Soon to be premiered with us] a thrilling debut album that showcases the breadth and depth of his sound in all its glory. Alongside this, he will continue to search out and sign the best new music from both established and emerging artists, and continue to serve up scintillating melodic grooves. Whack this mix on and let Air Jackson soundtrack your Wednesday afternoon. This mix is a dream. Pete Moss and Colette on the "Virtual Sessions" presented by The DJ Sessions 2/27/21 Pete and Colette talking about their collaboration album "THE DAYS" A Retrospective Part 1" and other things... About Pete Moss - Philadelphia based Pete Moss knows a thing or two about house music having traveled the world in search of the ultimate underground dance floors, and releasing over 150 projects on top labels such as, Ovum, Dessous, ALola, Definity, Large, Seamless, I records, MN2's, Acryl and dozens of others, including his own underground Recline imprint. Known as one of the finest late night/underground Dj's on the map, crushing it at Fabric London, La Terrazza Barcelona, Roxy Prague, Salon Daome Montreal, Harlot San Francisco, King King L.A, The Arches GLasgow, La Santanera PDC Mexico, Rioma Mexico City, Smartbar Chicago, Living Room Miami, among others, Pete has a reputation for giving his all at every gig and leaving people touched and inspired by his signature deep and eclectic sound. Candy Talk Records kicked off 2021 with its twenty-second release, featuring the first in a two part retrospective compilation "The Days", from label favorite, Philly's deep house aficionado, Pete Moss. This two-part retrospective compiled by label head Colette features some of Moss' most memorable moments, with many tracks originally only available in limited quantities. These hand chosen tracks have all been remastered for today's modern fidelity. Part one of this series features an eclectic collection of sounds and moods. From the dubbed out aesthetics of tracks like "So Sweet", "2012", and "All Ova the World", to the spaced out elemental disco-tinged "Turn U Back" and "Back in the Daze", this is just scraping the surface of this release's brilliance. Paring the sweet and subtle spatial delicacy of "Too Soon", "I See the Beauty", and his rework of "Dreams feat. Colette" with the emotive tracks like the deep and driving "Rain Day" or "Solutionz", this compilation is a true testament to the exploratory musical magic that has become a benchmark of the sound of Pete Moss. About Colette - Always seeking to push boundaries and explore new territories, Chicago native DJ Colette, continues to discover ways to push her craft and career forward even after over two decades of leading the pack. Since then, Colette has personally released eight singles and two full-length efforts of her own work—2013's crowd-funded When The Music's Loud (named one of Vice's 99 greatest dance albums of all time) and 2017's Retrospective.

For Morei Info: Antwon Faulkner www.jackedrecordsdetroit.net www.thisismodulations.com Antwon Faulkner has been in the game for nearly three decades now. Born and raised in Detroit, Antwon started hustling mix-tapes at the age of sixteen. With music in his blood, this is truly what he was born to do. At thirty-five Antwon briefly relocated to Arizona but it wasn’t until late 2008, when he moved to Toronto, did we really get exposed to this next exciting chapter. While people may be more familiar with his DJ moniker, the infamous “Twonz,” in 2009 we got to know a new Antwon, an Antwon re-energized, excited and motivated. His focus shifted from throwing parties and DJing to making music and really honing his craft as a producer. Spending countless hours in the studio, Antwon is careful to avoid listening to others while in his creative zone so the product reflects him and him alone, devoid of any outside influences. With an upgrade in equipment and new pieces of gear, we’ve seen Antwon turn a corner in which he has found his lane and is settling in really nicely. The results are heard in using less loops and playing more of his own keys. While he still regularly releases tracks on his own imprint, “Hijacked Records Detroit,” recent years have seen him spreading the love with multiple releases and remixes on “Restructured Recordings,” “Bulletdodge Records,” “KMS Records.”"Downside UP," "Elephanthaus," "Thoughtless Music," "Motech LTD," "UNT Records," "Frequenza," "Sampled Detroit," and "RF Trax." His music has been played by many world class DJ's such as: Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, Gene Farris, DJ Bone, Seth Troxler, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, DJ Heather, Pete Tong, Paco Osuna, Luigi Madonna, Hector Moralez, Stanny Abram, Stacey Pullen, and many more! While production is where Antwon’s heart is, this is not to say that you can’t still catch one of his killer DJ sets. Antwon is straight up techno and prides himself on being current and remaining relevant. You can rest assured you will always hear the new hot tracks and your Detroit classics, which will now include his own productions peppered throughout the set. Listen closely as Antwon often premieres unreleased material for those that came out to jam. Now here is what you won’t see, no software and no laptop. Antwon is currently on a “Bring Back the DJ” crusade. While technology provides us with amazing advances, this is Antwon’s answer to an over saturated market of “DJs” that haven’t learned the fundamentals of beat matching or DJs having a distinct “sound” based on their own sense and use of timing. Two turntables and a mixer and a whole lot of funk! In 2018 he received the "TESTIMONIAL RESOLUTION PLAQUE" FROM THE CITY OF DETROIT for his contributions in bringing the sound of Detroit to an international audience. 1 Justice Orlando Voorn 2 Morning Side (Nino Bellemo Remix) 3 Perception of Groove (Djebali Remix) 4 What Is This Sound ArchieHamilton's HigherRepurposemix 5 Unique Oscar L 6 Bring Da Drums (Original Mix) M. The underground vet brings Chicago's industrial music to Berlin techno. // Growing up in the house music capital of Chicago, one might not expect Karl Meier to make the sort of abrasive industrial techno found on his debut album as one half of Talker (with Johnathan Krohn). But as he tells Rave Curious, the city's industrial scene—famous for the Wax Trax! label, home to Front 242, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and local legends Ministry/Revolting Cocks/Pigface—had just as much influence as the house heroes like Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak and DJ Heather. The result so far has been a single album for esteemed UK techno imprint Downwards in 2014—not bad for Meier's first release after years working record counters at places like the mythical vinyl emporium Gramaphone. That album lead to key gigs at Berghain and Berlin Atonal Festival, compelling Meier to take the next obvious step and relocate to the German Capital the next year. The Rave Curious podcast caught Meier on his first official U.S. tour to find out how a dance music veteran can go from nearly unknown to underground headliner status after decades of DJing. We also try to make nice with Chicago after dissing the Windy City hard on the recent Boom Bip episode.
Episode 88 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by Alek Soltirov. In the ever changing illustration of what symbolizes house music today, a young entrant from Macedonia, Alek Soltirov, has immersed the uncompromising sounds of hip hop, old school funk and soul and crafted into his own signature house blend. His production trademark is by resampling the behemoths such as Patrice Rushen, Al Green, George Benson, James Brown, Dr. Dre, Tupac, resulting in an intrinsic funky house sound. Moreover, Alek is not afraid to demonstrate his own independent interpretation of deep and funky driven house. As such, his impressive portfolio has been recognized by the likes of Mark Farina, Joey Negro, DJ Sneak, Doc Link, Dj Heather on multiple occasions. Subscribe with iTunes - https://apple.co/1MQQ5me Subscribe with RSS - https://imahousegangster.libsyn.com/ When we sat down with Alek, we asked how this mix represent him as an artist, to which he said “this mix in particular shows what I stand for when I say "HOUSE". You can hear jazzy beats, you can hear deep club sounds and jackin' drums all together in one mix complementing each other. That's also what I go from when I produce my own tracks as well.” He went on to explain, “when I decided to record the mix I wanted it to showcase the true definition of HOUSE MUSIC. As I said before, it shows the jazzy side, the deep hypnotic vibe, the jackin' drums. So it took me a week or two to filter down from a big selection of tracks I had to define the final result.” https://www.imahousegangster.com https://www.facebook.com/imahousegangster https://www.instagram.com/imahousegangster https://www.twitter.com/imhousegangster

A mainstay of the Portland and Seattle scenes since the late 90's, Pacific Northwest native Trevor Vichas has entertained audiences with his mesmerising blend of house, garage, and techno meets jazz, disco, and hip hop; warm rolling basslines, hypnotic chord progressions, and soulful vocals that speak with a message of love. It’s a sound showcased here on his Gangstercast as Trevor explains, “This mix represents me as an artist in how I move though various house sounds creating a forward moving mix that keeps you shaking that ass and guessing what I am going to play next. The mix is on the deeper soulful of house that I play.” “The process for choosing the tracks to make my Gangstercast took a few days. When I selected the tracks for this mix, the thought in mind was to play timeless music. I started with a pile of some of my new favorite tracks from the last couple of years, some classic tunes that I love to play, and some of my selected production work that I am personally in love with. After that it took a couple of long sessions to weed out some tracks and add some others in. I had about 80 tracks laid out to play and what got mixed in the first two hours was my final mix.” Since completing his first tracks in 2008, Trevor’s productions have appeared in the playlists of heavy-hitters such as Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Iz & Diz, Phil Weeks, Hector Morales and DJ Heather. Labels including Robsoul, Flatpack, Phobic and countless others have all commissioned Trevor for original music and remixes. The names above will leave you in no doubt that Trevor Vishas is a bonafide House Gangster! He comments, “The house gangster movement to me is about being down for house 110% all day everyday. I have seen a lot of people coming in and out of house music, and then play whatever is a trending to get a gig. It really boils down to being dedicated to house music for life, not giving up and being true to house music! House music is very much a spiritual thing to me. Whether I am listening, playing or working in the studio on beats, there is a feeling that emanates from me when house is involved. It has become a way of life to me and I am able to express my inner most feeling though the music I play and produce.” “Damn it feels good to be a gangster.”
Soydan joins us for episode 15 of the Gangstercast! While being born in Germany and now being based in Waterford, Ireland, Soydan’s roots are in Turkey. His musical influences are firmly rooted in Chicago and DJ/Producers like Gemini, Derrick Carter and of course DJ Sneak. After setting up Yakuza Recordings in 2006, Soydan quickly found favour with other Chicago jocks including Mark Farina and DJ Heather, who licensed his tracks, and he has gone on to work with some of the scenes top labels, including Guesthouse, Shak and Maracuja. Soydan's mix comes straight from the dance floor and is his vision of the perfect party with a jacking house soundtrack. the tracks are mixed on the fly with no pre-planned selections. He's firmly behind the House Gangster movement and the important role it plays in, in his words: "educating some young people about house music". A true House Gangster himself Soydan says, "House music is in my life, all day, everyday, and also at night time in the studio". There's nothing left to add other than, TURN IT UP!

dattrax: The title basically says that there is nothing organic about this mix. Techy, electronic, funky w/ a slight tribal feel. Charging beats and harder edged layering. It has a relentless and aggressive pace. This mix begins w/ Ladytron's "Playgirl", a gem that I found in a Queen St. W. record store called "Rotate This" in a back bin of techno records. Just pulled up any record that had cool artwork and that I didn't recognise in their electronic section. Must have blazed through 150 records that day. Such a waste of time taking records in and out of their sleeves without damaging them. People hate us at record stores. Just dropping the needle on each cut of a record for seconds looking for the goosebumps and hair to rise. "Playgirl" was a b-side that was made super fast. I had to slow it down 4 notches on technics 1200s and it's still fast. This mix is highlighted by wicked tracks by the Dynamic Duo of Justin Harris and Luke Solomon of MusicForFreaks (MFF) fame, Steve Bug's double album, "The Other Day", DJ Heather, Richie Hawtin, Cevin Fisher, Rob Mello, Adam Marshall (a fellow Torontonian), Dub Taylor, Derrick Carter, etc., etc. LOVE THESE GUYS!!! BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then why don't you buy us a beer? There's a PayPal DONATE button on the top right side of this website. For Toronto or Global bookings: dattrax@gmail.com This was an all vinyl house mix.
