Today's Headlines: In a whirlwind of news, the past week has seen a series of significant events unfold. First, the shocking report of Alexei Navalny's death in a Siberian prison has sparked accusations of foul play linked to Russian President Putin. Navalny's widow, Yulia, has openly accused Putin of orchestrating her husband's demise and has vowed to continue his fight. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump finds himself in legal hot water, facing a staggering $355 million penalty in a fraud trial, along with a three-year ban on him and his sons from running companies in New York. In another scandal, Congressman Matt Gaetz faces allegations of involvement in sex parties and questionable business dealings. The Alabama Supreme Court's controversial ruling on frozen embryos has stirred debate, while Wisconsin braces for political upheaval with the introduction of new legislative maps. Additionally, revelations regarding fake traffic on Twitter and misconceptions surrounding recycling have come to light. And to end on a brighter note, Greece has made history by legalizing same-sex marriage and adoption, marking a significant step forward for LGBTQ+ rights. Thursday night saw renowned host Tucker Carlson unveiling an exclusive interview with Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, that had been eagerly awaited by millions. The hour-long interview, hosted on Elon Musk's X platform, had a dramatic impact, exceeding 100 million views in less than 14 hours after being uploaded. It garnered attention from worldwide spectators moments after it was shared at 6:25 PM EST, counting its views in millions within mere minutes. By almost 15 hours after its release, the video boasted a staggering 121.5 million views, alongside ever-increasing engagement metrics - 55,000 comments, 246,000 reposts, 776,000 likes, and 229,000 bookmarks. This milestone represents a career victory for Carlson, who has positioned himself as a formidable figure in the media landscape after parting ways from Fox News and establishing The Tucker Carlson Network. An article from the DC Enquirer described how Carlson conveyed an insightful post-interview reflection on the Russian head of state to his audience. In this, he stated that it may take him nearly a year to fully deconstruct and understand the depth and implications of President Putin's thoughts and objectives communicated during their conversation. The host noted that Putin appeared to have struggled to articulate his perspective eloquently. Some key themes that emerged from Putin's discourse, Carlson relayed, revolved around his disappointment with the rejection from the western world, particularly the United States, and the perceived hostility from the West.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

During tonight's episode of The Jeff Dornik Show, I air an interview I gave on the show Battlefront: Frontline with Dustin Faulkner discussing my new social media platform Pickax, which is a constitutionally protected free speech platform not beholden to Big Tech and offering monetization opportunities for content creators unlike any social media platform out there. Dustin and I discuss Elon Musk's supposed freedom of speech on X, which is actually described by their policy: Freedom of Speech but not Freedom of Reach. The reason they are doing this is to build up Musk's new xAI, and because they are using real-time data from X, that will be the most relevant and up-to-date AI on the planet. This is a concern, given his transhumanist ideology and eventually connecting his AI up with your brain through Neurolink. This is why everyone needs to sign up for Pickax, where instead of using users to build up his technology, I'm using technology to amplify you. Sign up for Pickax today at https://pickax.com. Does the buck stop in Brussels? The EU has opened its first-ever proceedings over social media content. In its crosshairs is Elon Musk's X – formerly Twitter – over illegal posts and disinformation. It follows an initial warning over a deluge of hate spewed on the social networking site in the wake of the October 7 Hamas attack and the war with Israel. We ask about this litmus test for Europe's brand new regulation, known as the Digital Services Act. In content moderation, there's moderation and then there's the content. If 2023 was the year that AI went mainstream with ChatGPT, will 2024 be the year that deepfakes swing elections? A big year of campaigning awaits in Europe, India and the United States. For instance, the EU's new AI legislation calls for the labelling of realistic-looking artificial content. Will it be enough?Regulators will always be one step behind innovators. In this case, will it be enough? Will citizens demand answers or simply trust what's in their timeline?Produced by Alessandro Xenos, Guillaume Gougeon and Juliette Brown.

He discusses his own mental health, his trip to Israel, his original vision for OpenAI when he co-founded and named it, and so much more. Andrew Ross Sorkin recaps the highlights of that interview with Becky Quick and Joe Kernen. Plus, former House Speaker Paul Ryan is not holding back. After many months of news headlines about whether Elon Musk was going to buy Twitter, he eventually completed the purchase on 27 October 2022. Since then, the company's been through some big changes; laying off most of its 8000 employees, a rebrand to ‘X', and reinstating some previously banned accounts on the platform. Mr Musk describes himself a free speech absolutist and says he bought Twitter – now called X - to create a space where “a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner.” However, the company's faced criticism over lax content moderation, leading to advertisers halting ads on the service. He hopes to boost revenue by making the site a paid-for platform, setting some ambitious financial targets. In this episode, Sam Fenwick speaks to former employees, business owners and journalists to get a picture of what has happened at X since Elon Musk took over. This week, Bloomberg reported that social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict have led to a sticky cesspool of confusion and conflict on Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter. On Saturday, just hours after Hamas fighters from Gaza surged into Israel, unverified photos and videos of missile air strikes, buildings and homes being destroyed and other posts depicting military violence — in Israel and Gaza — crowded the platform. But some of the horror, not all of course, were old images passed off as new. Some of this content was posted by anonymous accounts that carried blue checkmarks, which signals that they had purchased verification under X's “premium” subscription service. Some military footage circulating on X were drawn from video games, and some of the lies were, as usual, pushed by far-right pundits on the platform, for clicks or, possibly, ulterior motives. For the midweek podcast, Brooke speaks with Avi Asher-Schapiro, who covers tech for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, about how Musk's policy changes at X have led to a stronger initial surge of misinformation than usual during this conflict, and how an algorithmically-driven "fog of war" impacts our historical record of this conflict.

(It also inspired the Adam Curtis docuseries by the same name).  The term describes the final years of the Soviet Union when the system was failing, everyone knew the system was rotted from within by greed and corruption, yet people carried on, the broken system becoming the new normal. When our government can easily be shutdown by a Kremlin-backed, proudly fascist party, while its leader continues to call for violence, walking free after having tried to violently overthrow our government, and disinformation echo chambers on the far-right and far-left openly mock and attack the victims and targets of that fascism, America has reached HyperNormalisation. And the priority of the business elite is to protect their immorally low-tax rate and hoard their wealth, following in the footsteps of those who helped bring Hitler and Pinochet to power.  Elon Musk's X has become the biggest outlet of Russian disinformation, according to the EU. That's “mission accomplished” for the American far-right and its Russian backers. Formerly reliable so-called “resistance” accounts on Twitter that once led the way combating Trump and Putin have succumbed to self-censorship and catering to Musk's oppressive algorithms like they're an authoritarian regime. This causes them to fall silent on ringing the alarm on the stakes to all of us for stopping Russia's genocide in Ukraine, LGBTQ+ rights that are being scapegoated through genocidal rhetoric, and more. You know things are bad when even Ralph Nader is ringing the alarm of fascism and wants to campaign for the Democrats!  Since the beginning of the show, the focus has been on grassroots power–the most reliable power we have left. Together, we made 15,000 phone calls to get John Fetterman into the Senate, and he's leading the way against corruption and greed.
