Her journey from asset management to launching an industry-leading ethical beauty platform is a testament to her entrepreneurial drive and commitment to sustainable living.About This EpisodeIn this episode of The Matrix Green Pill Podcast, host Hilmarie Hutchison sits down with Mukta Purain to discuss her inspiring journey from the finance world to becoming a changemaker in the beauty industry. Mukta shares how personal experience led her to identify a gap in the UAE beauty market and how she turned that into an opportunity by launching Miss Palatable, a platform dedicated to clean, ethical, and sustainable beauty products.Mukta delves into the challenges of bringing clean beauty to the GCC market, from navigating regulations to educating consumers on the importance of mindful consumption. She highlights the shift in beauty standards and how Miss Palatable ensures transparency in its product curation by working closely with brand founders. She provides valuable insights into what consumers should look for when choosing clean and sustainable beauty products and how purpose-driven businesses can thrive despite challengesQuotes3:23 - I find ourselves now becoming more of this hybrid platform where not only are we bringing in beauty brands, but we're also starting to work with homegrown brands and listing them on our website as well.4:33 - The industry here has always been dominated by extremely large players, so that was a huge challenge in bringing in brand awareness.6:10 - Transparency is even more important today than it was before.7:01 - It's our responsibility to be transparent and that's why, when I'm curating brands, I'm really looking at that.7:54 - I believe over the years we've built a level of trust with our customers and there's a certain expectation that comes out of products that we launch on Miss Palatable that it is our responsibility to make sure that we are very transparent in that sense.9:25 - When it comes under sustainability, we're always focused on, especially within the beauty industry.14:41 - Building a brand that is sustainable and ethical is probably the hardest type of brand to build. It's an extremely long journey.15:14 - When things are not going your way, it's even more important to remind yourself of why you are doing it and have that motivate you to keep pushing forward.15:45 - Keeping a balance is always a challenge. It is a work in progress.16:25 – Other thing I've learned is learning to say no.16:38 - Prioritizing where I have to be and where I cannot say no and where I don't really need to be and I should say no.18:10 - I at least try and get my steps in.18:32 - Enjoy the journey up ahead.18:46 – Trust in the universe, to trust that everything is going to come together in time and to keep going.Useful LinksWebsite:The Matrix Green Pill Podcast: https://thematrixgreenpill.com/Please review us: https://g.page/r/CS8IW35GvlraEAI/review

“The characteristics of jazz help. Its sense of improvisation, individualism, sound, and rhythm are all present and important in graphic design, too.” - Niklaus Troxler, who have been improvising with letterforms like Jazz Musicians since 1960s. In my opinion, a Poster is a mix of typeface and graphics communicating something. In here, typeface matters a lot. To discuss this and more, today we have Sarang Kulkarni with us. Sarang is a type designer and co-founder of Ektype. He also has his own agency called as The White Crow where he does branding and typography work. This Audiogyan will be in English and Marathi. Questions What according to you is Type / Akshar? Massimo Vignelli said that he is comfortable with half a dozen typefaces lasting a lifetime. Rest all is visual pollution. What's the need for more typefaces? What triggers a need for new typefaces? Medium, Language, Expression, Enhancement, Technology, Content? Are there ways to systematically study and distinguish between an improvisation of a typeface versus a different typeface? For eg, Mukta and Modak have different anatomy, so we can say that they are 2 different fonts. But can we say that Inter is an improvised version of Helvetica? You deal with a lot of abstract forms as well. At letterbox, for eg: “k” (Marathi) can be identified if one looks at the flow or series of iterations of representing ‘k'. Can a letter form be identified in isolation? What's the extent of improvisation? How abstract one can go and still make it palatable? When can one start improvising on a typeface? When the base font is registered in everyone's mind. For eg: Can we improvise on a newly launched font set? Does improvisation in a typeface done only as an experiment can transform into the usage of mass communication? What's going on with 365 days of type and more such practices and movements? Are those improvisations? How easy or hard is it today to experiment and improvise on open-source fonts? When does the author know that the improvisation is done? That week, RFI English journalist Jessica Phelan joined Alison Hird and Sarah Elzas on their excellent podcast, Spotlight on France, to tell us how Champollion, in 1822, came closer than any other scholar of the day to de-coding Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. He already knew an Egyptian language that was spoken during Rome's occupation of Egypt, and Champollion used that language to work backward, teasing out some of the meanings in hieroglyphics. You were to tell me the name of the language he knew that helped him with his discovery. The answer is: Coptic. Coptic was the primary spoken language in Egypt from the 3rd century AD in Roman Egypt; it was supplanted by Arabic following the Muslim Conquest of Egypt in 639 AD. There are no native speakers of Coptic today, but it is still the liturgical language of the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Coptic Catholic Church. In addition to the quiz question, there was the bonus question: “Who is the most beautiful woman in all of history … to you?”Do you have a bonus question idea? Naik is an architect and urban planner, who works with the Initiative on Cities, Economy & Society at CPR. Prior to joining CPR, she worked with a social enterprise – Micro Home Solutions – on community-based interventions aimed at improving housing in informal settlements. Naik is a graduate of the School of Planning and Architecture, and has a Master's Degree in urban and regional planning from Texas A&M University. In the first part of the conversation with Naik, we spoke about her pathway into the policy space, the importance of 'boundary-crossing' when tackling subjects like migration and urbanisation and her work on the Small City Dreaming project, looking at the aspirations and lives of young Indians beyond the big cities. In the second part of the conversation, which you will receive in two weeks, we spoke about how Covid changed the conversation on migrants in India, whether the learnings from that time are taking root, what it means to look at cities and urbanisation from a Global South perspective and why she advises young scholars not to over-define their career pathways.

She is very passionate about this pelvic health and wants to take the shame out of the topic because in the end, the pelvic floor can reveal a lot about your health. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------   Learn More About Mukta Chauhan: Dr. Mukta Chauhan is one of the few PTs in the US with a double board certification in orthopedics and women's health. Macanese gastronomy - how to 'fuse' a cuisine

Macanese gastronomy is reputedly the oldest fusion cuisine in the world and has been recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. This tiny territory - smaller than Hong Kong, which it neighbours - also has one of the most dynamic economies in the world where some of the best chefs using the finest ingredients cook for the very rich. How does Macanese food cut through this noise? But how does a chef like Andrew - operating within a system of distinct yet connected regional Chinese cuisines - understand, embody, codify and cook a corpus that borrows so heavily from Portuguese colonial tastes and textures? And is fusion a problematic term or simply an imprecise word to describe complex alchemies involved in cooking food that lands well in a given context? ReferencesBoileau, Janet Patricia. Introducing a special three-episode mini series of XO Soused. One episode per generation, and one episode each day from Monday to Wednesday this week. Andrew's family have been involved in the Chinese catering trade in Britain for three generations. Every generation of Andrew's family had an ambition for their business. During the years that his grandfather owned these businesses, these ambitions were shaped by this powerful patriarch and his network in the midlands, and by the realities of baby boomer Britain and its effect on the Chinese cuisine on its shores. And along came Andrew's father with ambitions to start up in London, setting a course for Andrew's family that still defines their lives today. In this first special episode of this miniseries, Andrew and Mukta delve into these personal histories - into these sagas of competition and cooperation, of succession and discontinuity - of the 1970s and 1980s. How do contemporary cooks interpret historically researched cookbooks? How relatable to contemporary dining are Song era historical recipes, and how far do recipe writers, cooks and chefs have to do this translation work? Andrew talks through a present day book of Song era recipes that he has been reviewing and researching as both he and Mukta explore how these recipes reflect Song dynasty social, economic, cultural and philosophical life. How do these recipes draw from and sketch out the luxury markets that defined the era, as well as the clean-eating philosophies that developed in reaction to these rich diets? And, equally importantly, how does this cookbook - a complicated culinary snapshot of Song era cooking - capture the evolution of Han majoritarian cuisine against which all other Chinese cuisines have become ‘ethnic’, or ‘other’? The effects of climate change on our world are often talked about in the future tense, in abstract terms, and in places that are far from our home here in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, there is growing awareness about how climate change has already begun to impact our natural environments here in California. In this episode, we take an in-depth look at the projected effects of climate change on California and more specifically the Bay Area. Our hosts, Maritte and Richard, reflect on an interview with Dr. Patrick Gonzalez (@pgonzaleztweet), a forest ecologist and climate change scientist at UC Berkeley as well as the Principal Climate Change Scientist for the U.S. National Park Service. Patrick spells out the projected effects of climate change here in California, such as sea level rise and rampant wildfires, and discusses the proposed plans for mitigating these effects. If you haven't thought much about what climate change will look and feel like here in the Bay Area, this conversation is an insightful and cautionary dive into what issues we need to confront over the next 100 years to protect our beloved community. There is much work to do. She has trained in kathak both in India and New Jersey for over two decades with renowned kathak maestros and has a Master's in Performing Arts from Kalidasa Sanskrit University. A touring artist, Barkha has performed at dance festivals in India to the U.S. Barkha recently created an ensemble work called Mukta, A Woman Liberated, which was in residency at the Center for Flamenco Arts and has presented at numerous festivals in NYC. She has been nationally recognized for her work: she completed a choreographic fellowship with the N.J.P.A.C., received a 2020 Fellow with the N.J. Council on the Arts, and is Dance/USA Institute for Leadership mentee. Barkha was recently announced as a 2021 Forge Consultancy Fellow. Barkha teaches young and adult students from all over the United States. Acknowledging the lack of community for kathak dancers in NYC, Barkha co-founded a kathak meetup group. The meetup started in January 2020 as an inclusive space for kathak dancers to practice and discuss crucial topics to the art form. In Sunrise Bay Radio's second episode, A Just, Green Recovery, we explore how the current economic crisis compares to previous recessions. Furthermore, we discuss how a green stimulus can simultaneously lift us out of this economic downturn, transform our economy to run on clean, renewable energy and address systemic inequality for people of color. In our first interview, our correspondent Mukta speaks with UC Berkeley Professor, Dr. Ellora Derenoncourt about the history of previous recessions and recovery efforts by the U.S. government. Next, Mukta discusses the Green Stimulus with one of its' coauthors, Dr. Mijin Cha. Dr. Cha lays out the diverse ways in which a green stimulus would impact the U.S. economy, the environment, and racial justice. Finally, our correspondent Noah speaks with a labor historian, Fred Glass, about how labor organizing can help build power to demand a just recovery at both a local and federal level. Our hosts, Maritte and Richard, introduce the THRIVE Agenda, which was introduced last week in congress and would stimulate the economy by creating green jobs and simultaneously address systemic inequality. Call your congressional representatives and encourage them to support the THRIVE Agenda For more information about this episode please contact us at bayarea@sunrisemovement.org Our producers for this episode were Isaac, Noah, Mukta, Ashlyn, Julia, and Elisabeth.
