Often times in life we hear the famous quote “ Good things come in small packages”.  That quote fits my next guests character to a Precise T. He maybe small in nature, but has the heart of a Lion. More important is that something valuable or important can often be found in something seemingly small or insignificant.  On December 31, 2016 my next guest found himself in the right place at the right time on a cold New England winter morning.  A fire broke out in a three story wood frame residential dwelling in the City of Everett, Massachusetts. Everett is located just 6.1 miles North of Boston.  This Off Duty Career Peabody Firefighter was driving in his own personal vehicle in a residential neighborhood where he smelled and seen smoke pushing from the eaves of a residential multi story dwelling.  He reacted immediately without hesitation pulling over parking his vehicle into a strangers driveway.  He ran towards danger where he was informed by residents who were fleeing the fire that some residents are still inside.   Peabody Firefighter Dan Barrasso who had no regard for himself wearing civilian clothes with no fire protection conducted primary searches to the first, second and third floors of the multi-family dwelling.  Searching and clearing the first and second floors he made his way to the third floor.  When reaching to a third floor platform apartment he was met by smoke and heat conditions.  His persistence of clearing the building came to fruition as he found an elderly male trying to get dressed inside a bedroom. Because of the selfless act of bravery and courage the elderly males life was spared. Dan Barrasso is a Honorably Discharged as a Petty Officer First Class E-6  serving 14 years with Navy SeaBees.  He fought the Iraq War Conflict “Operation Iraq Freedom” in 2008-2009.  He fought along side the 3rd Battalion 7 Marines “Tiger Team”.   Petty Officer Barrasso holds many Medals, Citations and Awards for Bravery during a stellar 14 year career in the Navy.  Please welcome to Captain Kid's Corner Season 2, Episode 8 Peabody Firefighter Dan Barrasso.

His latest book, War on Virtue: How the Ruling Class is Killing the American Dream was published in 2023 (Sophia Institute Press) .https://www.amazon.com/War-Virtue-Rul... In this monumental book by one of the Church's greatest contemporary defenders, Bill Donohue explains how the ruling class is systematically undermining the virtues that have built Western civilization and producing a “moral holocaust” that the traditional family cannot withstand. These radical elites have rejected the idea of personal sin and replaced it with social injustice. They've rejected traditional values and replaced them with a dangerously misguided individualism that is misusing our liberties to destroy freedom as we've known it. In his incomparable, no-holds-barred style, Donohue offers a commonsense solution to restoring the virtues in the workplace and defending universal morality. You will learn the hard-hitting truth about the dangers of multiculturalism, the “blame America” campaign, the Black Lives Matter movement, and Critical Race Theory. In 2023, Bill starred in, and was co-executive producer of, a documentary on Disney, titled, Walt's Disenchanted Kingdom. Bill is the president and CEO of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organization. Bill also serves on the advisory boards of many organizations, including the Society of Catholic Social Scientists, and the Christian Film & Television Commission. Winner of several teaching awards, and many awards from the Catholic community, Bill has appeared on thousands of television and radio shows speaking on civil liberties, social issues, and religion. Terry McIntosh completed Airborne Parachute School in 1967 at age 17 and was assigned to Co. D, 17th Infantry Long Range Patrol in Germany. The LRRP unit was an elite airborne light infantry force capable of conducting Direct Action Operations. The "Lurps" operated on reconnaissance and combat patrols to obtain vital intelligence or perform highly dangerous covert missions into enemy held territory, and remained on high alert throughout the Cold War.McIntosh was skilled in automatic weapons, radio communications, and special operations.Due to heavy US casualties at the height of the Vietnam War, McIntosh re-enlisted for an additional year and volunteered for a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (ABN) in 1968. He served 6 months on A-Team 414 in the Mekong Delta 1969 as one of the youngest men in military history to wear the Green Beret and serve on a Special Forces A-Team. He commanded or participated in 22 combat missions to include Search & Destroy, Ambush, Airboat, and Aerial Assault Missions. He served with Col. Robert Rheault's espionage team at the time of the execution of a double agent (Thai Khac Chuyen) which sparked Daniel Ellsberg's compilation and eventual release of the Pentagon Papers. See also “Project Gamma.”  His tour of duty included a short term assignment to Nui Coto, a fortified Viet Cong stronghold in the 7 Mountains area at end of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. McIntosh became ill and was medivac to 29th Evac hospital in Can Tho. He was diagnosed with "Fever of Unknown Origin" and returned to duty at A-414 upon recovery.Awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, VSM w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Civil Actions Medal, Expert Badge (Rifle), United States, Vietnamese, and German Parachute Wings, and other awards. McIntosh finished his military service with the 75th Rangers, and was Honorably Discharged in 1971. He attained the rank of Sergeant E-5.Unofficial Mark of Distinctive Service:McIntosh is one of the youngest men, if not the actual youngest, to ever wear the Green Beret into combat and serve on an A-Team. Military Records verify that he was assigned to Special Forces at age 18 and at the height of the Vietnam War because of his military skills. The median age of Special Forces soldiers was about 30 to 35 years old. The Group had suffered high causality rate Tet68, and temporarily dropped the age requirement to 18 in order to fill much needed positions. In spite of the age drop, SF only recruited those qualified in a critical Military Occupational Skill. The assignment demanded skill, determination, and ability in keeping with SF standards. McIntosh was accepted by his team members without question. They were all getting shot at regardless of age, and it was during a time when a soldier was judged by his actions more than anything else.McIntosh earned his Combat Infantryman Badge at age 19 during a Search & Destroy mission in the Mekong Delta. Lt. Col. Wesley Herrlein was OIC with air support, and ten enemy soldiers were killed in action. A citation of combat was submitted, and orders for the award were cut Feb 23, 1969. McIntosh was assigned assigned to Det. A-414 in Thanh Tri, a rifle shot from the Cambodian border. He spent 170 days on the A-Team. Please like and subscribe to our YouTube channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@thescuttlebuttpodcastAlso you can support us at our Patreon https://www.patreon.com/TheScuttlebuttPodcastSaving lives 1 episode at a timeAnother way to support us is by the following links linktr.ee/thescuttlebuttpodcast#Veterans #Army #Navy #AirForce #Marines #CoastGuard #22aday #pilots #aviation #suicideawareness #22 #22veteransSupport the show

Rodney “Rocky” Sickmann United States Marine Corps Sergeant and P.O.W., Iranian Hostage CrisisAuthor, Iranian Hostage: A Personal Diary of 444 Days in CaptivityRetired U.S. Director, Military and Industry Affairs, Anheuser-Busch InBev. Senior Vice President of Budweiser Accounts, Folds of Honor_____________________________________________________________________________________ Rodney “Rocky” Sickmann graduated from Washington High School in 1976 and immediately entered the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1979, just 28 days into his tour of duty at American Embassy in Tehran, Iran, Sickmann became a player in one of the most terrifying events in U.S. history. On November 4, 1979, after months of turmoil marked by the return of the exiled Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the American Embassy in Tehran was overrun by militants and its employees taken captive. Sergeant Rocky Sickmann, then just 22, was one of 65 Americans taken hostage. Sickmann remained a hostage for 444 days before being released on Jan. 20, 1981 following 14 months of diplomacy by President Jimmy Carter.Three months later, Sickmann was Honorably Discharged after six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and received several accolades during his service including the Prisoner of War Medal, The Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Award of Valor, and Good Conduct Medal. Following the military, he began working in advertising for KMOX radio in St. Louis, Mo. and then entered the private sector for Anheuser-Busch InBev. He spent the next 34 years with the company, most recently as the U.S. National Director for Military and Industry Affairs, until his retirement in July 2016. Sickmann's personal diary, “Iranian Hostage: A Personal Diary of 444 Days in Captivity” is also the only known diary to have been smuggled out of Iran and published. The diary is no longer in publication.  As the U.S. National Director for Military and Industry Affairs at Anheuser-Busch InBev, Sickmann oversaw all Military Special Events, Military and Industry Trade Media Publications, and National Industry Trade Shows. Throughout his career at Anheuser-Busch, Sickmann also played a key role in increasing Anheuser-Busch's market penetration among the Military by training wholesalers, coordinating marketing and publicity, executing national sales promotions, and planning special military events. Sickmann helped coordinate the “Here's to the Heroes Tour” which salutes the men and women of the armed forces, allowing Americans to show their support for the troops via recorded messages filmed on location at community events, celebrations, and festivals nationwide and shared with U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.Personally and professionally, Sickmann has been fortunate to share his story on many different platforms including ABC News, ESPN, Fox & Friends, Fox News, Los Angeles Times, MSNBC, NFL Time Line Series, The New York Times, to the cast of the Oscar award-winning film Argo (starring Ben Affleck), national and local Veteran and Military organizations, and educational institutions across the country. In August 2016, Sickmann's military and professional experience, coupled with his passion for our armed forces, led him to pursue an opportunity with his favorite non-profit organization: Folds of Honor. In this new role, Sickmann helps advance the Folds mission: To stand in the financial gap of the more than one million dependents adversely affected by war, providing educational scholarships to the children and spouses of those killed or disabled while serving our nation. Sickmann and his wife (40 Years), Jill, have three children, Hannah (Hannah Wehrle, Granddaughter Lela, Grandson Rhett and husband Matt Wehrle), Chelsea (Chelsea Frese, Grandson Woodson, Grandaughter Rooney and husband Kalen Frese) and Spencer.

In this special episode. Paul & Stacey sit down with USMC Veteran Rocky Sickmann. Rodney “Rocky” Sickmann graduated from Washington High School in 1976 and immediately entered the U.S. If you would like to learn more or donate to Folds Of Honor. Goldylocks Productions presents Live from Little Bear Sanctuary with Christopher Vane.Christopher Vane co-founded Little Bear Sanctuary, a nonprofit farm animal sanctuary in Punta Gorda, FL, in honor of his late mother Ursula (which translates to “little bear” in Latin). They shared a common passion for animals and Ursula often dreamed of providing neglected, once-abused animals a safe haven. While originally from New York, Chris surprisingly started off with a career in human healthcare, eventually landing in Florida working as a real estate broker. When he met Randy, everything changed…for the better, that is! Their relationship sparked a new passion to live each day with purpose. After they got married, their desire to provide a better world for farm animals was greatly amplified. Together, Chris and Randy followed through on Ursula’s dream and established the Little Bear Sanctuary in 2017. Now, 160+ rescued farm animals call Little Bear Sanctuary home, and – thanks to Christopher’s compassion and dedication – each animal has been given an opportunity to experience love and freedom.Little Bear Sanctuary provides a permanent home for farm animals that have been abandoned or can no longer be cared for by the owner in order to allow them to live out the remainder of their lives in a cruelty free environment. We are committed not only to a vegan lifestyle but the essential education of pigs as pets. Our animals are never kept in cages or pens and are free to roam in their natural habitat.https://littlebearsanctuary.org https://www.facebook.com/littlebearsanctuary https://www.patreon.com/littlebearsanctuary Add us to your Amazon Smile account: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/82-2180440 Special Guest: Bill Muir aka SGT VeganSGT Vegan (AKA Bill Muir, RN, BSN) left a cushy job teaching English in Japan after 9/11 to join the Army.
