Janice opens up about what it means to be "halfway homeless" as a teenager in 1980s New York City, navigating shelters like Covenant House, group homes, and public school while keeping meticulous diaries. She candidly discusses the privileges that helped her succeed, the ethical mistakes she made along the way, and how she eventually found her center through writing and long-term therapy. Janice also shares invaluable advice for aspiring writers on embracing "ugly first drafts" and explains how she now helps others heal by putting their painful memories safely onto the page.Get your copy of Girlbomb by Janice ErlbaumAs an Amazon Associate, Now I've Heard Everything may earn a commission from qualifying purchases.Chapters:00:42 Reflecting on 20 Years of 'Girlbaum' 01:12 Returning to Covenant House 02:24 The Impact of the James Fry Exposé 03:07 The Universality of Youth Running Away 03:28 What Does 'Halfway Homeless' Mean? 06:10 Balancing School and Shelter Life 07:17 The Role of Writing in Her Life 09:05 Honesty About Mistakes and Ethical Dilemmas 10:53 Centering Yourself Amid Chaos 11:58 From Writer to Mentor 15:06 The Writing Process and Embracing Imperfection 18:35 Looking Back After 20 Years 19:40 Reflections on Happiness and Gratitude 21:35 Reconnecting with People from the BookGuest InformationJanice ErlbaumWebsiteSocial:YouTube Facebook Instagram TikTok1994 interview with Susanna KaysenFor more intriguing and engaging interviews each week, subscribe now on:Spotify Apple Podcasts YouTube

In this episode, host Bill Thompson sits down with Dr. Pius Kamau, a surgeon, author, and human rights advocate, to discuss his powerful new memoir, *Running with Lions*. Growing up in Kenya under the shadow of British colonialism and the violent Mau Mau uprising, Dr. Kamau's future was entirely uncertain. Yet, fueled by his father's unwavering belief that education was his "northern star," he once walked hundreds of miles to pursue school. Dr. Kamau shares stories of overcoming systemic racism, surviving a horrific car crash that killed two of his professors and scarred his hand, and building a 38-year career as a surgeon. They also discuss his return to post-independence Kenya, the complex realities of its newfound freedom, and his current mission combating human cruelty as a board member of the Coalition Against Global Genocide.Get your copy of Running With Lions by Pius KamauAs an Amazon Associate, Now I've Heard Everything may earn a commission from qualifying purchases.Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Pius Kamau and His Memoir 03:01 The Journey of Education and Overcoming Adversity 05:54 Racism and Its Impact on Life Experiences 08:51 Resilience and the Will to Succeed 12:06 The Aftermath of a Life-Changing Accident 15:08 Parental Influence and the Value of Education 18:04 Reflections on Post-Independence Kenya 20:49 Advocacy Against Global Genocide 24:10 Closing Thoughts and Future AspirationsGuest InformationDr. Pius KamauSocial:Facebook InstagramCoalitoin Against Global Geocide 1991 interview with Hank AaronFor more intriguing and engaging interviews each week, subscribe now on:Spotify Apple Podcasts YouTube

Dr. Larkin shares how her decades-long career as an eye surgeon inspired her to view aging not as a structural decline or a narrowing field of view, but as a profound opportunity for inner growth and reinvention. Using the physical mechanics of the eye as a powerful metaphor, she explains how unrecognized "blind spots"—societal expectations and limiting beliefs—can hold us back at any age. Dr. Larkin also shares a deeply personal turning point: how a severe wrist injury threatened her dominant surgical hand, forcing her to confront her own identity and ultimately choose to live out the exact advice of her book. Franklin reveals a side of Anne that many readers miss: her identity as a deeply serious, precocious creative artist who intentionally rewrote and edited her own diary for future publication. What if everything we are told about the border crisis is completely missing the point? In this episode, Bill Thompson sits down with Gil Gillenwater, author of *Hope on the Border* and founder of Rancho Feliz. Over nearly 40 years of hands-on work on the US-Mexico border, Gil has discovered a radical truth: traditional charity doesn't work, and a wall cannot fix a crisis of dignity. Gil shares how giving handouts disempowers people, while creating structured opportunities allows families to lift themselves into Mexico's middle class, eliminating the desire to illegally immigrate. From trade-offs like swapping plastic trash for food tickets to transforming privileged American teenagers into "Guardian Warriors," this conversation flips the script on political rhetoric. It's an eye-opening look at what happens when we stop looking at the border as a political battlefield and start seeing it as a shared human experience.Get your copy of Hope On The Border by Gil GillenwaterAs an Amazon Associate, Now I've Heard Everything may earn a commission from qualifying purchases.Chapters:00:42 Why Traditional Charity Fails 01:20 The Real Driver of Immigration 02:55 Dwell on Yourself, Dwell on Misery 06:43 The Plastic Bag Experiment: Earning Dignity 08:42 From "Volunteers" to "Guardian Warriors 11:10 Evolutionary Baggage vs. Cooperation 15:37 The True Cost of the Wall 16:44 Common Sense Solutions for Border Policy 21:24 Breaking the Cycle: Dirt Floors to Rolls-Royce 24:20 How Service Transforms Privileged YouthGuest InformationGil GillenwaterRancho Feliz websiteSocial:YouTube Facebook Instagram TikTok2007 interview with Vicente FoxEasier, more confident everyday conversation: "The Everyday What To Say"For more intriguing and engaging interviews each week, subscribe now on:Spotify Apple Podcasts YouTube

Inspired by a surprising discovery after her grandmother's passing, Jenny has dedicated her life to uncovering the forgotten history of World War II's Pacific theater -- where an estimated 40 million lives were lost. From the harrowing survival stories of Filipino guerrilla resistance fighters and "comfort women" to the unthinkable atrocities committed by Imperial Japan's Unit 731, Jenny exposes the brutal realities of total war on civilian populations. She also sheds light on the shocking post-war immunity deal where the U.S. government purchased biological warfare data from war criminals for millions of dollars. But this episode isn't about replacing hard work with technology. We spend time on the reality that mapping alone doesn't kill deer. Boots-on-the-ground scouting, reading sign, adapting to conditions, and true woodsman ship are still the driving force behind consistent success — and the app is only as good as the hunter using it.Thank you for listening, and hope you enjoy!Stealth Outdoors https://www.stealthoutdoors.com/

In this emotional, revealing discussion, Alivia describes the meeting as “traumatizing but necessary.” She opens up about what it was like to see key evidence firsthand — including the full surveillance timeline tracking Kohberger's movements from 3:00 to 4:20 a.m., the cell tower CAST data showing 23 visits to the victims' home, and even one carefully redacted crime scene photo. She also talks about the moment prosecutor Bill Thompson admitted he couldn't guarantee that sensitive images would never leak — a moment that pushed her to face the unthinkable rather than risk being blindsided online later. Alivia reveals new context about Kohberger's Amazon knife purchase, the witness list including one of his sisters, and her reaction to recently unsealed Washington State University reports detailing multiple complaints from women who said Kohberger made them feel unsafe. But the heart of this story isn't just the evidence — it's Alivia's ongoing mission. She's building a digital archive to preserve the full truth of what happened to Kaylee, Maddie, Xana, and Ethan — to protect their legacy from conspiracy theories and online distortion. This is a story about strength, truth, and the fight to keep reality intact. #BryanKohberger #KayleeGoncalves #IdahoMurders #MoscowIdaho #AliviaGoncalves #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimePodcast #UniversityOfIdaho #JusticeForKaylee #TonyBrueski Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In this episode of the Truth From The Stand podcast, I sit down with Bill Thompson to dig into the overlap between hunting and jiu-jitsu. We talk about why having a system matters, how asking the right questions sharpens your approach, and why mindset is everything when the pressure is on—whether you're on the mats or in the whitetail woods. Bill shares how flow state isn't just a buzzword but a real advantage in both disciplines, and why chasing small, incremental improvements can lead to big results over time. We get into the way social media warps what “success” looks like, the value of teaching the next generation, and how reflection and journaling can make you a better hunter and a better person. Bill also gives us a peek into his upcoming season and what's next for Spartan Forge, with an emphasis on doing things the right way—building quality tools and investing in the hunting community. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM PODCAST 457 Hunting and jiu-jitsu both demand embracing discomfort and challenges. Systems and asking the right questions lead to better decision-making. Flow state creates clarity and therapy in both the woods and on the mats. The process of growth is more valuable than the end result. Mindset and grounded confidence shape outcomes in hunting and life. Small, consistent improvements build long-term success. Passing lessons to the next generation keeps traditions alive. This means a life sentence with no possibility of release. He has also waived his right to a fair trial, including the right to confront and cross-examine witnesses. Consequently, the media argues that the non-dissemination order should be lifted, as there is no longer a jury pool to taint or concerns about his right to a fair trial. The prosecution, however, objected to lifting the order. The court initially made a preliminary decision, stating it could be revisited if a reason emerged. The court also noted that no bond was set for the defendant. Bill Thompson emphasized the need for time to provide a full statement, which he claimed was difficult while preparing for sentencing. However, this was deemed not a legal justification, and the media has highlighted that "more time" is insufficient legal grounds to maintain a restrictive non-dissemination or gag order. As of July 10th, more docket entries haven't appeared since the order was filed on July 2nd. There's a possibility the court is backlogged and won't address it until July 23rd, at which point it would become moot and withdrawn.RESOURCESBryan Kohberger Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKASBczV3CsUx-t5oRAK0caBryan Kohberger Change of Plea Hearing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdOt4zAWjp8This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

The Idaho4 include Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Bryan Kohberger, a former criminology Ph.D. student at Washington State University, faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary in connection with the brutal stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—on November 13, 2022. The trial, initially set for June 2025, has been delayed to August 11, 2025, with jury selection beginning July 30. Defense attorney Anne Taylor argues that the extensive media coverage and the complexity of the case, including over 51 terabytes of evidence and more than 400 potential witnesses, necessitate more time to prepare. Prosecutors, led by Bill Thompson, contend that the defense has adequate resources and that the victims' families deserve timely justice. Judge Steven Hippler is expected to rule on several motions, including the possibility of a death penalty and the admissibility of evidence related to alternate suspects.⸻ #Support the show:All Things STS: Https://linktr.ee/stspodcastGet Joel's Book: Https://amzn.to/48GwbLxSTS Merch: Https://www.bonfire.com/store/sts-store/Support the show on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/SurvivingTheSurvivorCatch us live on YouTube: Surviving The Survivor: #BestGuests in True Crime - YouTubeVenmo Donations: @STSPodcast#BryanKohberger #Idaho4 #IdahoMurders #MoscowIdaho #TrueCrime #IdahoStudents #TrueCrimeCommunity #CrimeJunkie #JusticeForIdaho4 #BryanKohbergerTrial #stsnation #murdermystery #trial

With the June primary approaching, plenty of attention has been focused on the race for mayor. But there's an important and highly competitive contest on the undercard: the race for City Comptroller. What does the comptroller do and why should New Yorkers care? NY1's Errol Louis decided to talk more about the job with two former comptrollers who were major players in New York's political arena — Liz Holtzman and Bill Thompson. A former congresswoman and district attorney, Holtzman served as a city comptroller from 1990 to 1993, while Thompson held the job from 2002 to 2009. They discussed the qualities voters should look for in the next comptroller, emphasizing the need for intelligence, honesty, experience and innovation. Both guests also reflected on their biggest achievements. Join the conversation, weigh in on X using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message.
