We all know we need a good night's sleep but sleep researcher, David Creswell PhD has studied how our performance is actually affected by sleep. He has even found a predictive correlation between student's college GPA scores and their sleep duration. David Creswell is a professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University and has published numerous studies on mindfulness-based interventions and their impact on well-being. He is a prominent researcher specializing in health psychology, mindfulness meditation, and stress management. Earlier this year David co-authored a paper in Psychological and Cognitive Sciences called, “Nightly sleep duration predicts grade point average in the first year of college” which caught our attention. The research measures performance metrics among students who wore Fitbits while sleeping. The findings suggest getting less than 6 hours of sleep may be a threshold where sleep shifts from helpful to harmful. To wrap up the conversation, hosts Kurt and Tim discuss the topic of sleep in their Grooving Session. They discuss their very different sleep patterns and what Kurt has done to help improve his insomnia. © 2023 Behavioral Grooves Topics (4:22) Welcome and speed round questions. Preserving capital and enhancing value for your company is paramount. That is why there are people like Dr. Stephen Long who exist. In this episode Dr. Long, the Founder and President of Motere Consulting, teaches us how he goes about with his Strategic Execution method for making teams and companies more successful. He introduces and breaks down the two elements that he uses – management assessment and management development components. With these methods, he promotes not only teamwork but also identifies risks. On the side, Dr. Long also talks about potential and shares some of his significant leadership-related experiences in the military. — Watch the episode: Listen to the podcast: Management Assessment And Development: Behavioral Analysis Method For Growing Teams with Dr. Stephen Long Our guest is Dr. Stephen Long. He’s the Founder and President of (https://motereconsulting.com/) here in Colorado Springs. Steve, thank you so much for taking the time to come by and be a guest on the show. It’s my pleasure, Bob. Thanks for having me. If you could, tell us a bit about your business and who you serve. I’m the President and Founder of Motere Consulting, which is a performance enhancement firm that helps manage risk, preserve capital and enhance value through management development and management assessment services. I built a predictive model of human performance and leadership while I served as the Head of Performance Psychology in the Human Performance Lab at the Air Force Academy. The model has been successfully applied to business, athletic, academic, military and artistic performance. My business clients average 115% improvement in financial performance on average with a zero-failure rate. Basically, it’s a data company. For the business owner that’s reading, I could do with the 115% improvement on pretty much anything at any time. If I’m that business customer and I go, “What is it that I should expect if I hire you to come in and evaluate my leadership team and my company?” What should they expect? You’ve got to learn things about your people that you don’t know about them. Basically, what my behavioral analyses do is it’s a shortcut mechanism. Particularly with the clients I serve, what they find out in two to three weeks would normally take them two to three years to find out. And they usually find out under dire circumstances. I’m your prospective new client and I’m getting ready to do whatever or I’m trying to hire and you come through the door, what time frame should I expect and what steps do you take to go through and arrive at a conclusion? There are two elements. There is the management assessment component and the management development component. The management assessment component and what I’m doing there is I measure the behavioral factors of Strategic Execution. Strategic Execution is simply the ability to execute the strategy. There are some strategies that are better than others. There are some managers who execute strategy better than others. When you put a good strategy with a good manager, that’s when you blow the doors off. You had the visionary versus the operational person? You can combine the two. I don’t do anything with strategy. All my degrees are in education. That’s what the MBA is to determine as far as what to do. What the research has found is that strategies only deliver 63% of what they promise. Let’s say you got a proposal for $100 million. Lock that 30% or 40% off right from the start because at best they’re only going to get $60 million to $70 million. Then you combine the inability to execute strategy and it goes down significantly. This is where people don’t understand as far as what they should do because it’s what I call the Strategy Execution Paradox. When things...
Today is another Coaching Roundtable where I sit down with two other established coaches and discuss various common (and misunderstood) topics that arise inside the training and nutrition coaching space. In this episode we have Christopher Barakat; Bodybuilder, Prep Coach, Owner of Competitive Breed, and Graduate of the Exercise and Nutritional Science Masters Program at University of Tampa, as well as a currently teaching professor and published scientist in the Human Performance Lab. We also have William Grazione; Pro Natural Bodybuilder, Coach, Bachelors of Exercise Science, and owner of Metabolic Evolution. Be sure to screenshot the show, post it on your IG story and tag myself @cody.boomboom, Chris @christopher.barakat, and Will @william_grazione TOPICS DISCUSSED: TRAINING: Opinions on the volume research that has been published in the last 1-2 years (is more really always better?) Effort and intent… how important is mind muscle connection, the individual's effort inside of each rep, focus, etc. Does it matter or is it all about volume? Training to failure - is there a time for it? Or should we avoid it completely? Program hopping… how long should someone stick to the same movements? And does this change between compounds vs. accessory lifts? Changes in training during a fat loss vs. a hypertrophy phase? And what's the transition look like between one phase to the next? NUTRITION: Defining nutritional periodization in the aesthetic world (what's the meaning, to you, but also the application inside your coaching) Thoughts on the current state of reverse dieting and metabolic adaptation (these two things have blown up, some great info and some horrid info - what's your take?) Ultra high carb diets… great for retaining muscle mass on a cut and for building new tissue in off season? Or a hormonal crash course? When and how to add refeeds and diet breaks Applying the research (what to know, look out for, and consider before taking a study and implementing it without reason) ---- Apply For Coaching: bit.ly/Coaching-App Get Your Free Copy of The Nutrition Hierarchy, HERE Learn How We Coach: Read This Case Study Article Top 4 Episodes: - Nutritional Periodization - Nutrition FAQ - Training FAQ - My Story ---- You can get access to ALL of our content in one place, now: www.boomboomperformance.com/links Join The Boom Boom Elite (BBP's Membership Site) to receive exclusive content and interviews, monthly training programs, bonus eBooks, the private coaching forum, and more by visiting https://boomboomperformance.com/elite ASK BOOM-BOOM YOUR QUESTION HERE! : www.boomboomperformance.com/podcast Check out all of our e-books by visiting https://www.boomboomperformance.com/products Boom Boom Performance Coaching Info: http://boomboomperformance.com/online-coaching Social Links: Blog – www.boomboomperformance.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/boomboomperformance/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cody.boomboom/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/BoomBoomPerformance Email – info@boomboomperformance.com
