Quite often, when a new or curious gardener wants to know, “What should I plant in my garden?” One of my common responses is: “it's hard to go wrong with All-America Selections Winners.” The AAS  has been independently trialing and judging plants, across North America, since the 1930's. The judges are experts in the field of horticulture, including seed and plant developers, arboretums, garden centers, public gardens, and land grant universities.Among the AAS winners that I've tried that have found a nearly permanent place in my garden include the "Arizona Apricot" Gaillardia,  the "Queen Sophia" marigold, "Sugar Snap" peas,  sweet peppers such as the "Cornito Giallo" , "Giant Marconi", and my all-time favorite sweet pepper, the "Gypsy". And,  tomatoes: Big Beef, Celebrity, Chef's Choice Orange, and Juliet. So, what are the 2024 winners? THE SPLITTING OF IMPATIENS FROM THE JANUARY 2023 ISSUE OF GROWERTALKS MAGAZINE WRITTEN BY LOWELL HALVORSON NARRATED BY BILL CALKINS EXCERPT: When analyzing impatiens sales these days, we can see that the category has split into two distinct segments, each with its own sweet spot and market focus. Wholesale price lists show this breakout regularly. They often follow “Impatiens” with “Impatiens, Hybrid” or perhaps “Impatiens, SunPatiens.” This division reflects the new normal and, looking under the hood, we can also see each segment is shifting under different breeder and buyer pressures.

Jewelweed. Spotted touch-me-not. Orange Balsam It's a plant known by many names, and, even if you don't recognize any of them, you've probably popped one of its exploding seed pods. A favorite of hummingbirds and nature-lovers young and old, it's a species with many stories to share. Listen in as the guys dive deep into the jewelweed patch, eating some seeds, trying to find the source of the “jewel” in jewelweed's name, and getting to the bottom of the age-old claim that jewelweed is a cure for poison ivy. This episode was recorded on September 26, 2021 at Birdsong Park in Orchard Park, NY Episode Notes:Which species is more common in North America: yellow (aka pale) jewelweed or orange jewelweed? While it may vary from place to place, orange jewelweed seems to be the more common species. Nearly every site we visited referred to it as “common” or “more common” and to the yellow jewelweed as “less common”. Orange jewelweed's North American range is also broader than yellow jewelweed's (yellow is absent from most of the Gulf states and most Canadian provinces). When do the Witch hazel seeds explode out of their capsules? Steve and Bill were both confused on the timing. Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a forest understory tree that blooms in the fall. The seeds take a year to develop and are forcibly expelled (because of dehiscence) from the seed capsules the following fall or winter. Check out our episode on witch hazel! Are there any plants that produce only cleistogamous (closed, self-pollinating) flowers? Not that we could find. Most sources make reference to the fact that cleistogamous flowering is a behavior that appears to have evolved to ensure reproduction under unfavorable conditions. These conditions usually limit or prevent cross pollination of the typical, chasmogamous (open) flowers. How many species of jewelweed do we have in North America? The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center lists 4 species of Impatiens native to North America. I. capensis and I. pallida are the ones found in the east (although, as mentioned in this episode, some sources list I. capensis as native in the Pacific northwest, as well). Five nonnative Impatiens species have also been introduced to the continent. Steve wondered what the Latin term ecalcarata means. This came up when Bill was discussing the western species of jewelweed, specifically, Impatiens ecalcarata. Turns out that ecalcarata means spurless, and the common name of this species is, appropriately enough, spurless touch-me-not or spurless jewelweed (AKA western jewelweed). FYI: The Latin name has been updated recently, and this species is now Impatiens ecornuta.Schizomyla impatientis is the Latin name of the midge that makes a gall on jewelweed. Steve recognized the genus, Schizomyla, and wondered if this insect was related to any of the gall-making insects we mentioned way back in our goldenrod episode (episode 1!). Bill checked, and the answer is no. It is always a treat to see this interesting plant, also known as jewelweed, or touch-me-not.Two species of touch-me-nots are native to North Dakota. The more common and widely distributed species is the spotted touch-me-not (Impatiens capensis). It can be found roughly east of a line from Bottineau County to Sargent County along stream banks, springs, and other wet habitats, particularly in wooded areas.

Stuart explains how plant breeding has changed the way we grow one of our most loved summer plants, the Busy Lizzy or Impatien. Stuart provides an insight into how bedding plants come to the market place and the way they are assessed in the garden trade. We investigate how pansies and violas have changed the face of our gardens in the winter and early spring, plus a look at what's in store in the future as our gardens become smaller yet our appetite for growing colourful plants throughout the year grows.Plants mentionedTraditional varieties: Alyssum, African and French Marigolds , Lobelia and Salvia. Kate is remembered for her life-long work collecting, classifying, and illustrating the flora of the great state of Maine. Kate spent six decades crisscrossing her home state. Her delicate, beautiful, and simple botanical art charms gardeners still today. Kate grew up in an upper-middle-class home. She attended private school and studied drawing as a child. By the time she was thirty, she had combined her love for flowers and drawing and embarked on a goal of collecting, cataloging, and drawing all the native flora of Maine. During Kate’s lifetime, Maine was still a rugged and wild place. Her amateur eagerness to explore the forests and wildernesses of Maine put her in direct contrast to the women of her time. Her exemplary fieldwork drew respect from her male counterparts - many of whom worked at the major Universities or scientific centers across the country. In 1881, after getting a plant named for her, Kate wrote to Sereno Watson at Harvard to acknowledge the honor, saying, “Were it not for the fact that I can find no plants named for a female botanist in your manual, I should object to “Pedicularis Furbishae”... But as a new species is rarely found in New England and few plants are named for women, it pleases me.” In 1895, Kate helped found the Josselyn Botanical Society of Maine. In 1925, her friend “Joss” (Louise Coborn) described Kate as a botanist in her sixties: “I can see her as I saw her then — a little woman with uplifted head already turned gray, in animated talk, or with bowed face using her keen eyes along a forest trail, or up a mountain path. She had the sort of eyes that were made for seeing, and nothing escaped the swift circle of her glance. Her feet were as untiring as her eyes, and she could out-last many a younger woman on a cliff-side climb or river-bank scramble.” On September 16, 1978, the New Castle News out of New Castle, PA, shared an article written by Mike Finsilber with a headline that read: Exhibit Depicts Female Scientists. Here’s an excerpt: "When curator Deborah Warner suggested to her superiors at the Smithsonian Institution that she put together an exhibit documenting the accomplishments of American women in science in the 19th century, her superiors were skeptical. Women scientists in the 19th century? Would there be enough of them to fill an exhibit? They doubted it. Ms. Warner didn’t. Yesterday her display opened in the Museum of History and Technology, telling of, among others: Kate Furbish, the botanist who discovered the now-famous Furbish Lousewort. It is now famous because it is endangered and for a time threatened to block construction of the Lincoln-Dickey Dam in Maine."   May 19, 1898  Today is the birthday of the woman known as the First Lady of Michigan State Parks and Natural Areas and the “Mother” of Michigan State Parks system, Emma Genevieve Gillette, who was born in Lansing. Genevieve learned to love nature from her dad. He would take her into the woods in the spring to see arbutus flowering and the brook running. Genevieve recounted how he would kneel down by the brook and ask, “Can you hear what it is saying? It’s talking to us.” In 1920, Genevieve was the only woman to be part of the very first landscape architecture class to graduate from the Michigan Agricultural College. She ended up going to work for the great Landscape Architect Jens Jensen, known as the “Dean of Landscape Architects,” and would become a trusted mentor and lifelong friend to Genevieve. In terms of a role model, Jens was perfect for Genevieve; he was an early pioneer in the conservation movement, used art as activism, and was generally ahead of his time. Jens once famously said, “Trees are much like human beings and enjoy each other's company. Only a few love to be alone.” A contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright, Jens was also a maker of public parks and spaces. Genevieve later said Jens “pestered her” to start a state park system in Michigan. Genevieve befriended the Michigan Parks Chief Peter J. Hoffmaster, who was one of her old college classmates. Her sincere alliances with state officials helped her garner support to serve as the president of the Michigan Park Association. Genevieve boosted public support and funding for more than 200,000 acres of Michigan’s state and national parks during her tenure, including the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. In the mid-1960s, Genevieve was asked to serve on President Lyndon Johnson’s Committee on Recreation and Natural Beauty. It was the honor of her career.   May 19, 1864  Today is the anniversary of the death of the American novelist and short-story writer Nathaniel Hawthorne. In 1843, Nathaniel wrote a crazy short story about a mad scientist who became obsessed with removing his wife, Georgiana’s birthmark. He decides to repurpose a remedy he created to remove blotches from the leaves of his geraniums. In the end, as his wife drinks the mixture, her birthmark does indeed fade away but so does her life force, and she dies a perfect, unblemished woman.   Unearthed Words Like their mother, Honor Sparrow, dead now for twenty-some years- gone on the very day her youngest daughter, Impatiens, arrived - the sisters had all green thumbs. It was ordained, really. They had each been named after a botanical, mostly flowers, and as their mother kept producing girls, the names became slightly ridiculous. But Honor was a keen gardener and in darkest winter, calling her daughter's names reminded her that spring would come again. For months after her death, the older girls hated their names and all they recalled for them. By the time they founded the Sparrow Sisters Nursery, though, each thoroughly embraced their names as the sign they were. ― Ellen Herrick, American publishing executive and author, The Sparrow Sisters   Grow That Garden Library Organic Gardening for Everyone by Cali Kim This book came out in 2019, and the subtitle is Homegrown Vegetables Made Easy - No Experience Required! In this book, Kim shows you just how easy it is to grow healthy vegetables at home - something she started doing in 2012. At the time, Kim approached her desire to garden in a very unique and compelling way: she crowdsourced it! After launching a YouTube channel under the name "CaliKim" (a nod to her California residency) and asking for help from everyday gardeners, Kim started gardening. When questions or problems popped up, Kim found support, advice, information, and connection from her viewers and subscribers. Gradually, she learned to garden, and her garden managed to survive and thrive even under the hot, harsh conditions of the California climate. Kim’s book is her way of giving back the gardening wisdom she’s accumulated. Now, almost a decade later, Kim answers more garden questions than she asks, and she’s here to help grow more gardeners through her lovely book. With Kim’s step-by-step encouragement, you’ll realize that anyone can garden and overcome any hesitations that gardening is too hard, intimidating, or time-consuming. With a busy family of her own, she shares her own inspirational story of balancing the garden's demands alongside the demands of a modern, busy California family. Kim offers friendly and practical advice that celebrates the joy of gardening. She offers her best advice on her passion for organic vegetable gardening.   This book is 160 pages of garden encouragement, wisdom, and enthusiasm from a California mom who became a passionate modern organic gardener over the past decade. You can get a copy of Organic Gardening for Everyone by Cali Kim  and support the show using the Amazon Link in today's Show Notes for around $5   Today’s Botanic Spark Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart May 19, 1941 Today is the birthday of the New York director and screenwriter Nora Ephron. Nora was the writer of many favorite movies: When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and You've Got Mail (1998). In You’ve Got Mail, Nora wrote one of the most iconic lines about daisies in a scene between the two main characters: Kathleen and Joe. In the movie, Kathleen Kelly looks at the vase of daisies that Joe sets on the table beside her, and she says, I love daisies. And then, Joe Fox replies: You told me. Kathleen ignores the clue in Joe’s remark. Now, had she noticed what he just said, she’d realize that he purposefully bought her the daisies because he remembered their very first meeting at her bookstore. During his visit with Annabelle and Matthew, she tells the kids about her handkerchief. (Since they didn’t know what a handkerchief was!) Kathleen tells the kids, “My mother embroidered this for me - [with] my initials and a daisy because daisies are my favorite flower.” But Kathleen misses Joe’s comment because he had just set the flowers on the table beside her. At that moment, Kathleen gets distracted by the daisies and caught up in the beauty of the flowers. She offhandedly remarks, “They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?” At this comment, Joe Fox looks to the side (because at this point he realizes she’s missed the meaning of his earlier comment), and then he simply answers her with, “I do.”   Thanks for listening to The Daily Gardener. And remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

There are several examples in nature of plants that are poisonous to humans which grow very closely to the plants that are the antidotes to those exact poisons. We go through a few examples in this episode. I ask for your thoughts and musings and real life examples where nature provided the plant that you needed, whether that be an antidote, a remedy, or a survival need. **CORRECTION** Please note that I made an error when talking about Jewelweed - I specifically spoke of the species Impatiens pallida but I do need to add the species Impatiens capensis as they are both applicable here as the antidote to poison ivy. My apologies! We then dive into the "woo" side of this title statement - Nature provides. We talk about the pandemic situation and how nature is providing us with so many needs right now - wisdom, clarity, breath, energy, perspective, company, solitude, nourishment, space. I leave you to muse on this question - How is nature providing what you need in this moment? I would love to hear all you have to say about this episode! For decades and decades, gardeners in the South have used plants from the tropics to adorn their summer gardens. With our warm, humid climates and long growing season, tropical plants thrive. However, they can’t handle the frosts of winter so they only last for one year. Nathan talks about his top four annuals that old gardens and new gardens need: begonias, dahlias, impatiens, and zinnias. Be sure to incorporate these annual favorites for outstanding color!

Interview starts at 5:38 - Our guest today is Lisa Lacy and she is going to tell us all about a game changing new product that has the opportunity to impact every one of us in horticulture, as well as everyone who gardens and enjoys landscapes. You may have heard clips and stories and seen press releases about cutting edge new impatiens with resistance to the Impatiens Downy Mildew disease that has decimated one of the world's most important bedding plants – Impatiens walleriana. Well, Lisa is the product manager and leading expert on Beacon Impatiens, a brand new series bred by PanAmerican Seed that's proven to exhibit high resistance to the Plasmopara obducens microorganism that leads to Impatiens Downy Mildew. To put this disease in scope, 10 years ago there were billions of seeds of Impatiens walleriana sold worldwide and PanAmerican Seed alone offered 9 impatiens series. Since then, due to the widespread nature of the disease, sales of Walleriana seeds have dropped as much as 50% and this garden mainstay has disappeared from retail shelves and commercial landscapes in a big way. Now it's time to hear the story that began in 2008 when PanAm started planning and building a team around the problem and continues to this spring, 2019, when the new Beacon series will debut at California Spring Trials. It's a story filled with emotion but built on a foundation of science. It's a story of collaboration. It's a story with an amazing moral – because a portion of the sales of the new Beacon series will benefit lesser known causes and foundations. And most of all, it's a story our guest, Lisa Lacy, is proud to share with the STEM listeners because as she clearly states in this discussion, seeing will lead to believing and it will take an industry effort to share the message that impatiens are back! Bach Flower Remedies for the Emotions that Come with Fertility Challenges with Erin Gray

Hillary’s esteemed colleague and friend Erin Gray, LCMHC, returns to dive deep into fertility challenges and the emotions that come with them. Erin has used and studied Bach Flower remedies for some time now, and she shares her experience with these super-safe homeopathic beneficial supplements. They also talk about the highlights of the 38 different remedies, the way Bach Remedies bring emotional balance into the situation, specific remedies as they play into detailed emotions, and Erin’s recommendation for bringing them into your life.   To share your own fertility story, please email me at hillary@ladypotions.com. I look forward to connecting with you, as you are what this podcast is all about.   Takeaways: [2:10] Bach Flower Remedies work on specific issues, and are unique in the way that they can support emotional balance. This makes them great for most cases of someone going through IVF. [3:27] Every medical system has its own way of categorizing supplements. In traditional Chinese medicine, we have the Eight Pillars or the Five Elements. Ayurvedic medicine has it’s Dosha’s and the Bach Flowers have their own two categories. One is by the personality type and ongoing characteristics and the other is a certain mood that relates to the moment and the fleeting marker of the experience. [4:40] There are 38 different tinctured remedies, categorized into 7 different families. They have a subtle taste and usually go in water or under the tongue. [8:12] Rescue Remedy won’t take away your personality or fix a life situation but it will help to bring a sense of balance and coping into the situation. [9:21] One of the biggest things Erin sees when working with fertility clients is fear and anxiety. When you have general anxiety or anxiety of an unknown, she suggests using Aspen. If you experiencing a specific fear and are clear about what it’s about, Mimulus is a good one. If you are overly worried about a loved one, Red Chestnut can come to the rescue. [11:45] Beech can help us open up our minds, and bring in more patience and peace. Rock Water is useful to go easier on yourself and is one of Erin’s most used remedies. The overly controlling personality type could benefit from Vine. When you are having trouble making decisions or confused about your own judgment, go with Cerato. If you are faced with multiple choices and not sure which one you want to choose, Scleranthus can help you figure out which path to go down. Gorse is also a big one for women in the IVF process, as it can help to connect with the true intention, and in turn, restore a sense of hope. [16:06] Although the remedies are gentle, if not used properly they can neutralize and do nothing or do the complete opposite and cause the emotion to appear even stronger. [21:03] Of all the Bach Remedies, the one recommended for difficulty in life transition and conceiving is Walnut. Impatiens is a good one to help manage impatience, loneliness, and frustration. This can be very beneficial during the waiting time in IVF and can be cycled in and out to be taken when you are in the throes of the intense emotions. [26:03] If you find yourself struggling with being present, or in a dissociative state, Clematis is very helpful in getting grounded and back into reality. Honeysuckle is a good one for past regrets, living too much in the past or a sense of nostalgia that interferes with your present moment. White Chestnut can help in getting your mind to settle down and relax, rather than replaying situations over and over and trying to predict every move in the future. [29:21] Pine is a good one for forgiveness, and letting go of any guilt or shame you may be holding on for yourself. Star of Bethlehem is a beautiful remedy to help with grief, loss, and trauma and Crab Apple can help shift from body shame or a sense of betrayal in your body into a sense of acceptance and peace. [33:19] If you can’t forgive someone else, and hold resentment and anger towards them, try bringing in some Willow. When you have a burning hatred (think Mean Girl), feel jealousy and mistrust, use Holly. [35:29] You can look up Bach practitioners in your area that can do assessments and custom blends for you. Oftentimes people need more than one remedy, but just be sure not to mix them all at once.   References: Fertile Minds on LibSyn Fertile Minds on iTunes Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Pets Ep #10 — 5 Steps to Clearing Unfinished Business with Erin Gray, LCMHC Erin Gray   Continue Your Journey: Link to sign up for free 29-day meditation challenge @ladypotions4u on Twitter @ladypotions4u on Instagram My Website: Ladypotions.com Special Thanks to Christopher Lloyd Clarke for music   Disclaimer * You must not rely on the information in this podcast as an alternative to medical advice from your doctor or another professional healthcare provider. Much to our chagrin the deer deterrent stakes were not effective and Friday we discovered that all the blooms on the two rose bushes, and two Impatiens planters were all eaten by the deer. The plants will be fine and survive, and we are thankful that we did not set out all of the plants. We put one more test planter out on Saturday night with moth balls in the planter to see if they are effective. Our day on Saturday of clean up and renovation projects in and around The Big House was very productive, and we made some good progress. After receiving good feedback from our fellow trekkers and based on the related projects that are planned we will be making a change in Wisdom-Trek starting June 1st. We will be releasing new Wisdom-Trek themed episodes three days a week, which will be Motivation Mondays, Wisdom Wednesdays, and Philosophy Fridays. The episodes may be slightly longer than in the past, but still short enough to consume easily in one session. Making this adjustment starting June 1st will allow us to invest the time needed to release the Wisdom-Trek monthly journals, create the online version of Your Life Plan Blueprint and roll out our new platform Christian Podcasting Network. We also have additional exciting projects in the planning stages that I will announce later. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/changes-coming-2014.jpg ()   For today, it is time to head out on a three-day trek of reflection from this past year of Wisdom-Trek. Today our trail will reflect on gratitude and the privilege of serving you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal. Gratitude Is Thanks on Steroids As I reflect on completing a full year of Wisdom-Trek at the end of May, I started thinking about gratitude, past the mere words “Thank you.” Way past. We are staying quite busy in and around the house this week. We are getting the Impatiens and Roses planted, and they really look great. Since the deer also enjoy the flowers, we did purchase some deer deterrent stakes, so hopefully that will protect the flowers. Inside, I finished applying polyurethane to the woodwork and floors in the parlor. Once it dries sufficiently, we will be able to set the furniture back up in that room. Little by little, we are making progress. As a reminder, we are looking at changing the format of Wisdom-Trek on June 1st. Please email me at guthrie@venturecg.com or leave a comment at the bottom of today's journal and let me know if you would like me to continue Wisdom-Trek on a 7 day, 5 day, or 3 day per week schedule. Also, let me know if you would like any changes to the format of the daily trek. Thank you in advance for your feedback! https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/feedback.jpg () It is now time to get started on the 19th day of Your Life Plan Blueprint Workbook. If you missed any of the previous days in this series, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. On our trek today, we will continue our deep exploration of each of the phases of the WESPER Framework. We continue today with the 3rd step which is the strategy phase. Yesterday we explored the first 6 of 10 strategy guidelines. Today we will finish up strategy guidelines 7-10. We are taking several days to hike you through each step of creating your life plan. I would encourage you to trek with me through this process and complete the associated forms that are included Your Life Plan Blueprint Workbook. WESPER Step 3: Strategy – Guideline 7-10 If you are following along in the manual/workbook, today let's explore guidelines 7-10 for strategy, which is found on pages 44-45 of Your Life Plan Blueprint.   https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/YLPB-Page-44.png ()...

https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/podcast_channel_artwork.png () Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 355 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Your Life Plan Blueprint – WESPER Step-3: Strategy – Core Concepts Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 355 of our trek, and earlier this month we began a detailed series, which we originally introduced in January, called Your Life Plan Blueprint. We have synthesized the information into a 100 page PDF manual/workbook which contains all forms needed to create and maintain your personal life plan. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/strategy_blueprint_798x455.jpg ()   This is our initial release of the manual/workbook, and it is available for download at https://wisdom-trek.com/ (Wisdom-Trek.com) on the left-hand sidebar of any page. Or, if you are listening on your smartphone, you can text the word LifePlan (with no spaces) to 44222, and Your Life Plan Blueprint will be delivered to you in an email. The manual/workbook is free during the month of May, so I would encourage you to become one of our early adopters so that all updates will be available to you for free also. By the end of 2016, we will have a complete web/mobile version available of Your Life Plan Blueprint. https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Your-Life-Plan-Blueprint-Logo-2.png () Thank you so much for coming along with me as we trek through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint. If you would like to listen to any of the past episodes, please go to https://wisdom-trek.com/ (Wisdom-Trek.com) to listen to them and read the https://wisdom-trek.com/wisdom-trek-podcast/ (daily journal). You can also subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on iTunes, Spreaker, Stitcher, Soundcloud, iHeart Radio, and Google Play so each day's trek will be downloaded to you automatically. We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Our order of Impatiens flowers was delivered this week by a local farmer friend, so hopefully we will be able to get them planted this weekend. We also have to till the circle garden area in the front of the house and plant the dozen rose bushes that we purchased previously. We did see a young mother deer in the front lawn this week, and they love rose bushes. So, we will have to determine a solution to protect the roses. As a reminder, we are looking at changing the format of Wisdom-Trek on June 1st. Please email me at guthrie@venturecg.com or leave a comment at the bottom of today's journal to let me know if you would like me to continue Wisdom-Trek on a 7 day, 5 day, or 3 day per week schedule. Also, let me know if you would like any changes to the format of the daily trek. Thank you in advance for your feedback! https://wisdom-trek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/SurveyHeader.jpg () It is now time to get started on the 17th day of Your Life Plan Blueprint Workbook. If you missed any of the previous days in this series, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. Plant breeders have been busy, and now SunPatiens® is the newest member of the impatiens family, and as one would guess, it is a sun tolerant variety of the tried-and-true favorite annual. It also is advertised as blooming longer and being bushier than the impatiens that we all use in our shady spaces.
